Toolrequired:Phillipsscrewdriver 1, Slide upper handleinto lower handle by pushingforward. Inserttwo long screws into the holes marked with arrows and tighten bothuntil snug. 2, Attach hoserack by placingthe rack over the centerback portionof the vacuum. Be sure to feed the power cordthrough the hole inthe centerof the rack.Line up both screws holes and use the two smaller screws to attach.Tighten both until snug. 3, Attach hoseby placingthe tabbed endinto the lower left openingon cordedside of the vacuum.Makesure the tab on the hosecuff andthe hole in the vacuum line up. Place the working end of the hose into the hole on the side with the extensionwand guides. 4, 5, 2a 2b Arrangethe hoseso it laysbetweenthe vacuum andthe rack. Storethe TurboBrushon the front of the handle by aligningthe sloton the bottomwiththe tab on the handle.Snapinto place. 6. Storethe CombinationBrushinthe slotshown. 7. Releasingthe powercord Theupperand lowercordwraps rotateto allow forquickand easyremovalof the powercord. Fingertip power switch Thepowerbuttonis locatedat the top ofthe vacuumhandle. Toturn cleaneron, press_) buttononce. Toturn cleanerOFF,press(_) buttonagain. Note:Therotatingbrushwill notturnon unlessthe unitis in the reclinedposition andthe brushswitchis on. Handle positions Useyourfoot to pullthe handlereleasepedal backto reclinethe vacuumcleaner. Heightadjustment Thereare sevenheightsettingsavailablefor variousfloorsurfaces.Turnthe dialon the foot of the cleanerto the desiredsetting. Lowestsetting- Forlowpile carpetor bare floors.Topick up debrisit may benecessaryto moveuponesetting. Mediumsettings - Formediumpilecarpet. Highsetting- Forhighpileandmostshagcarpet. Note:Foroptimalcarpetcleaning performance,adjustto the lowestpractical setting.If yourcleanerisdifficultto push, adjustto the nexthighersetting. ATTENTION: SomeBerbercarpetshavea tendencyto fuzzwith wear. Repeatedstrokesin the same area may aggravatethis condition.Considersettingyour cleaneron a higherthan normal setting for this typeof carpet. If the dial is difficultto turn,tilt the cleaner backslightlyto take the weightoffthe foot while turning. 6 www.bissell.com 800.237.7691 Fingertip brush switch Therotatingbrushisturnedon or offusingthe switchlocatedbelowthe powerswitchon the topof the handle.Thebrushwill startrotaUng whenthe unit is reclined.Thebrushshouldbe on for mostcarpetedfloors. Make sure the cleaner is in the upright position. Always place the vacuum cleaner on the floor in its fully upright position when using tools. Placing the vacuum in this position automatically stops the rotating brush. Removethe hosewand from the wand base.This automaticallydiverts the suctionto the hose.Unwrapthe hosefrom the cleaner. Usethe hoseandwand aloneor attach any of the tools to the endof the hose wand. t TurboBrush Userotatingbrushactionfor smallareassuch as stairsandupholstery. Note: Pressgentlywhenusingthe TurboBrush to gainmaximumcleaning. Toomuchpressurecouldcausethe brush tostop rotating. Combination brush Uselongersoftbristlesfordusting. Removelong bristleportionanduse shorterstiff bristleswhen agitationis neededto removedebris. Emptyingthe dirt container Emptythe dirtcontainerassoonasthe dirt reachesthe "Full" lineonthe sideof thecontainer. 1. Pressthe releasebutton on top of the carrying handleto removethe dirt container. 2, Choosean emptyingmethod.Method#2 is recommendedfor allergysufferers. Method#1 - hold the dirt containerover trash can andpush the emptyingbuttonto openthe bottom (2a).Closethe bottomafter the dirt empties. 2a 2b Method#2 - placea plasticbagoverme bottom of the dirt container.Pushthe emptyingbutton throughthe plas'dcto openthe bottom(2b).After the dustsettles,closethe bottomandremove the bagto discard. 3. Replacedirt container on cleanerby aligning the bottom and pushingback until it snaps into place. www.bissell,com 800.237.7691 _/ iii _ iintenance and care Cleaningthe dirt container Additionalstepscan betakento cleanthe dirt containeras necessary. 1. Ensurethe dirt container has been emptied. 2. Removethe lower portionby pressingthe front latch on the upperportion as shown. 3. Cleanthe screenwith a cloth or soft brush to removedust or debris. 4. If desired,the lower dirt container may be washedin warm water.Make sure it is completelydry beforereassembling.Do not put in dishwasher. 5. Toreassemble,hold the carry handle and place the upper portioninto the lower portion,lining up the front and back latches. Pushdown until both latchesclick into place. Makesure the dirt containeris securely assembledbefore replacingit on machine. !_iI i Z WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock, turn power switch OFFand disconnect polarizedplug from electrical outlet before performing maintenance or troubleshootingchecks. Cleaningthe pre-motorfilter Thepre-motorfilter shouldbe checkedmonthly andwashedas neededto maintainperformance. Moreor lessfrequent cleaningmaybe required basedonindividualvacuuminghabitsandtypes of debrispickedup. 1. Thefilter is located inthe door labeled "Filter" behind the dirt container.Pushthe tab at the top and swing the door down to access. 2. / WARNING: Donotoperatethecleanerwith a damporwet filter or withoutall thefilters in place. Removefoam filter andhold under running water to wash. Mild detergent may also be usedif desired.Wring excesswater from filter.Air dry thoroughlybeforereplacing. i¸ 10 www,bissell,com 800.237.7691 _i _ Maintenance and care Replacingthe HEPAfilter cartridge The HEPAfilter cartridgeshouldbe replacedif machineperformance is noticeablydeclining. More or less frequent replacingmay be requiredbased on individualvacuuminghabitsand types of debris picked up. Note: Tohavethe benefitsof the Airetight®HEPASystem_you must usethe BISSELLHEPAfilter cartridge. 1. Removethe dirt container. . , 4. , Toremovethe HEPAfilter cartridge, push in on the front of the filter door to unlatch. Lift up to access. Tocheck or remove,unscrewthe center screw. If necessary,replacethe used HEPA filter cartridge with a new one. Note: Toavoiddamagingthe HEPA filter cartridgeand reducingits filtration capabilities,be careful not to touchthe filter material.The HEPA filter cartridgeis not washable. Toensurea tightseal be sure to tighten the filter cartridgescrew until snug. DONOTOVERTIGHTEN. Clearingclogs Low suctionor poor pickup may be due to a clogin the vacuumcleaner.If you notice a changein the soundof the motoror a reductionin the spinningactionin the dirt container,checkfor a clog. Ifthereis nosuctionor if suctionis reduced at thehose,followthesestepsto checkfor andcleartheclog: . Turnpowerswitch off. 2. Unplugcleanerfrom electricaloutlet. 3. Checkthe pre-motorfilter and cleanas necessary(seecleaningyour pre-motor filter on page 10). . . 6. . 8. Checkto see if dirt containeris full. Emptyif needed. Removelower portion of dirt container. Cleanthe screen and check center tubes for dirt accumulation. Whiledirt container is removed,check dirt inletfor clogs. Removethehosefrom thecleanerby pushingon thetab.Straightenthe hose and checkfor a clog. Checkdiverterarea at backof machine for diverterpositionand clogs.Whenthe hosewand is removedfrom the base, the divertershouldbe up to the right. If a clogis visible nearthe diverter,the plastic covermay be removedto clearthe clogby removingthe 3 screws asshown (9b). 12 Inlet Checkthe HEPAfilter cartridge and replaceif necessary(seereplacingthe HEPAfilter cartridge on page11). www.bissell.com 9a 9b 800,237.7691 i Maintenance and care Clearingclogscontinued If suctionis normalat the hose,followthesesteps to checkfor andclearthe clogfor floorcleaning: 1. Checkdiverterareaat backof machinefor diverterposi'donandclogs.Whenthe hose wand is insertedin the base,me diverter shouldbe to the left. If a clogis visiblenearthe diverter,the plasticcovermay be removedto clearthe clog byremovingthe 3 screws. 2, Diverter FootHose Checkthe foot hosefor clogs (1). If you are not able to tell from the outsideif a clog is present,removethe bottom 3 screws from the divertercoverto loosenandstraighten the foot hose(2). Removeany clogs found and fully reassemblethe cleanerbefore attemptingto check suctionagain or using the cleaner. Thermal motorprotection An internalthermalprotectorhasbeendesigned intoyourcleanertoprotectit fromoverheating. Whenthethermalprotectoractivates,the main vacuummotorwill stopoperating.If thishappens, proceedasfollows. 1. 2, Turnthe cleanerOFFand unplug from electricaloutlet. Checkthe cleanerfor the sourceof overheatingproblem (i.e.full dirt cup, dirty filters or clog). 3, Fixthe problem by following the steps in the maintenancesectionof the user guide. 4. Whenthe motor coolsfor approximately 30 minutes,the thermal protector automaticallyresetsand cleaningmay continue.If the cleanerwill not turn on or the thermal protectorcontinuesto activate,your cleanermay need servicing.Call BISSELL ConsumerServicesor visit the website to locatean authorizedServiceCenter. Note:Thethermalprotectorcontrolsthe mainvacuummotoronly,notthe brush motor.If the thermalprotectoractivates, the brushwill continueto operatenormally; however,therewill beno suction. www.bissell.com 800.237.7691 iintenanceand care Brushreset If somethingbecomeslodgedin the foot andthe brushshutsoff,turnthe cleaneroffandunplug fromthe outlet.Removethe obstruction. The brushwill automaticallyresetwhenthe cleaner is pluggedin andturnedbackon. Brushmaintenance /KCAUTION: To reducethe riskof injury from movingparts,turn off the vacuumcleanerand disconnectpowerplugfrom electricaloutlet. Therotatingbrushshouldbecheckedregularly for accumulatingdebristhat mightreducethe cleaningperformanceofyourvacuum. 1. Unplugcleanerfrom electricaloutlet. 2. Reclinethe handle andturn your cleaner overso the bottomside is up. 3. Carefullycut away any visible hair,fibers or debrisfrom the brush roll. Donotattemptto disassemblethe vacuumfoot or to removethe brushroll.If youfeel it needsto becheckedor replaced,callBISSELLConsumer Servicesor visitthe websiteto locatean authorizedservicecenter. Belt maintenance Thebrushbeltisdesigned to lastthe usefullife of thecleanerwhenusedaccording to all instructions in the userguideundernormal household conditions. Turn powerswitch off. 2. Unplugcleanerfrom electricaloutlet. 3. Reclinehandlefor easieraccess to light bulb and remove2 screws to lift off lens. 4, Removethe bulb by grasping bulb and pulling straightout of the socket.Install the new bulb by pushing gently into the socket until the bulb snapsinto place. TurboBrushmaintenance TheTurboBrush shouldbecheckedregularlyfor clogsor debriswrappingaroundthe brush. 1. Removetool from hoseor front of vacuum. 2, Twist collar so openingis at the top and lift top coverto remove. 3. Removethe brushfrom the belt and clean debris. 4.
