Slide upper handleinto lower handle by
pushingforward. Inserttwo long screws into
the holes marked with arrows and tighten
bothuntil snug.

Attach hoserack by placingthe rack over
the centerback portionof the vacuum.
Be sure to feed the power cordthrough
the hole inthe centerof the rack.Line up
both screws holes and use the two smaller
screws to attach.Tighten both until snug.

Attach hoseby placingthe tabbed endinto
the lower left openingon cordedside of the
vacuum.Makesure the tab on the hosecuff
andthe hole in the vacuum line up. Place
the working end of the hose into the hole on
the side with the extensionwand guides.

ATTENTION:
SomeBerbercarpetshavea
tendencyto fuzzwith wear.
Repeatedstrokesin the same
area may aggravatethis
condition.Considersettingyour
cleaneron a higherthan normal
setting for this typeof carpet.

If the dial is difficultto turn,tilt the cleaner
backslightlyto take the weightoffthe foot while
turning.

Make sure the cleaner is in the upright
position.

Always place the vacuum
cleaner on the floor in its fully
upright position when using
tools. Placing the vacuum in
this position automatically
stops the rotating brush.

Removethe hosewand from the wand
base.This automaticallydiverts the

Usethe hoseandwand aloneor attach
any of the tools to the endof the hose

Emptythe dirtcontainerassoonasthe dirt
reachesthe "Full" lineonthe sideof thecontainer.

Pressthe releasebutton on top of the
carrying handleto removethe dirt container.

Choosean emptyingmethod.Method#2 is
recommendedfor allergysufferers.
Method#1 - hold the dirt containerover
trash can andpush the emptyingbuttonto
openthe bottom (2a).Closethe bottomafter
the dirt empties.

of the dirt container.Pushthe emptyingbutton
throughthe plas'dcto openthe bottom(2b).After
the dustsettles,closethe bottomandremove
the bagto discard.

into place.

Ensurethe dirt container has been emptied.

2.

Removethe lower portionby pressingthe
front latch on the upperportion as shown.

3.

Cleanthe screenwith a cloth or soft brush
to removedust or debris.

4.

If desired,the lower dirt container may be
washedin warm water.Make sure it is
completelydry beforereassembling.Do not
put in dishwasher.

5.

Toreassemble,hold the carry handle and
place the upper portioninto the lower
portion,lining up the front and back latches.
Pushdown until both latchesclick into place.
Makesure the dirt containeris securely
assembledbefore replacingit on machine.

Cleaningthe pre-motorfilter
Thepre-motorfilter shouldbe checkedmonthly
andwashedas neededto maintainperformance.

basedonindividualvacuuminghabitsandtypes
of debrispickedup.
1. Thefilter is located inthe door labeled
"Filter" behind the dirt container.Pushthe
tab at the top and swing the door down to
access.

Removefoam filter andhold under running
water to wash. Mild detergent may also be
usedif desired.Wring excesswater from
filter.Air dry thoroughlybeforereplacing.

Maintenance and care
Replacingthe HEPAfilter cartridge
The HEPAfilter cartridgeshouldbe
replacedif machineperformance is
noticeablydeclining. More or less
frequent replacingmay be requiredbased
on individualvacuuminghabitsand types
of debris picked up.
Note: Tohavethe benefitsof the
Airetight®HEPASystem_you must
usethe BISSELLHEPAfilter cartridge.
1. Removethe dirt container.

Toremovethe HEPAfilter cartridge,
push in on the front of the filter door to
unlatch. Lift up to access.
Tocheck or remove,unscrewthe center
screw.
If necessary,replacethe used HEPA
filter cartridge with a new one.
Note: Toavoiddamagingthe HEPA
filter cartridgeand reducingits
filtration capabilities,be careful not
to touchthe filter material.The HEPA
filter cartridgeis not washable.
Toensurea tightseal be sure to tighten
the filter cartridgescrew until snug.
DONOTOVERTIGHTEN.
Make surethe filter door latches
completely.

1. Checkdiverterareaat backof machinefor
diverterposi'donandclogs.Whenthe hose
wand is insertedin the base,me diverter
shouldbe to the left. If a clogis visiblenearthe
diverter,the plasticcovermay be removedto
clearthe clog byremovingthe 3 screws.

not able to tell from the outsideif a clog is
present,removethe bottom 3 screws from
the divertercoverto loosenandstraighten
the foot hose(2).
Removeany clogs found and fully
reassemblethe cleanerbefore attemptingto
check suctionagain or using the cleaner.

Thermal motorprotection
An internalthermalprotectorhasbeendesigned
intoyourcleanertoprotectit fromoverheating.
Whenthethermalprotectoractivates,the main
vacuummotorwill stopoperating.If thishappens,
proceedasfollows.

Turnthe cleanerOFFand unplug from
electricaloutlet.
Checkthe cleanerfor the sourceof
overheatingproblem (i.e.full dirt cup, dirty
filters or clog).

Fixthe problem by following the steps in the
maintenancesectionof the user guide.

Whenthe motor coolsfor approximately
30 minutes,the thermal protector
automaticallyresetsand cleaningmay
continue.If the cleanerwill not turn on or the
thermal protectorcontinuesto activate,your
cleanermay need servicing.Call BISSELL
ConsumerServicesor visit the website to
locatean authorizedServiceCenter.
Note:Thethermalprotectorcontrolsthe
mainvacuummotoronly,notthe brush
motor.If the thermalprotectoractivates,
the brushwill continueto operatenormally;
however,therewill beno suction.

and remove2 screws to lift off lens.

Removethe bulb by grasping bulb and pulling straightout of the socket.Install the new
bulb by pushing gently into the socket until
the bulb snapsinto place.
