7Remote control installation6 720 680 209BReplace the control unit cover withthe  4  Philips  head  screws  (Fig. 3,pos. 1).BSlide control unit back into heater.BPlug  2 yellow  electrode  wires  fromthe top of the control unit back ontothe  ignition  electrodes.  Ensure  allconnections  are  secure  and  tight(Fig. 2, pos. 3).BPull  end  of  power  cord  to  take  upexcess  slack  and  tighten  retainingnut on the bottom of the heater.BReinstall  the  two  electrical  stripconnectors  onto  the  PCB.  Thelarger  connector  connects  to  thelower  connection  on  the  PCB.Reseat  the  rubber  seals  for  bothconnectors.BReplace  the  control  unit  auxiliarycover. (Fig. 2, pos. 4).BReplace front retaining bar  using  5Phillips head screws. (Fig. 2, pos 1).4.2 Remote control activationThe  remote  control  activationinstructions vary based on the versionof  control  board  installed  in  yourheater.To  determine  the  control  boardversion in the water heater:BTurn  power  switch  on  the  waterheater to the off position (O).BWhen  turning  power  switch  to  theon position, note the first two lettersthat  appear  on  the  display  (shouldbe AF or SU).BIf the letters are AF, follow section 4.2.1.For SU, follow section 4.2.2.4.2.1 AF boardBConnect power to heater.BMove  the  power  switch  on  theappliance to the off position (0).iWire  polarity  does  notmatter  on  the  electrodewires.iBefore  the  remotecontrol will work, it mustbe  activated  using  theprocedure  describedbelow with the operatorstanding  in  front  of  theappliance.6720680209-0902_(New Remote control).fm  Page 7  Monday, January 19, 2009  8:58 AM

If  not,  repeatprevious step.BSelect “P3” using buttons   and on heater.BPress  and  hold Program  key or   again for 1 sec.LCD  shows  one  number  and  onerotating  digit.  If  not,  repeat  previousstep.The  number  represents  the  remotecontrol which  is  to  be  registered,  thefirst  remote  control  will  be  registeredwith  number  “0”,  the  second  withnumber “1” and so on.The  rotating  digit  shows  that  theelectronics is expecting a registration.If the LCD fails to show a number androtating  digit  after  repeated  attempts,double  check  the  wire  connectionsmade in section 4.1.BHold  remote  control  in  front  of  thecontrol  panel  on  the  heater  andsimultaneously press remote controlbuttons    and    until  thetemperature indication is shown  onthe remote control LCD.BSwitch  power  switch  on  theappliance to the "OFF" (0) positionand then back "ON" (I).BPress buttons   or   in orderto reach desired temperature.New remote control is programmed.4.2.2 SU boardBConnect power to heater.BMove  the  main  switch  on  theappliance to the "OFF" (0) position.BPress and hold   key while at thesame time turning the main switch to“ON” position (I).LCD  shows  one  number  and  onerotating  digit. 15Remote control6 720 680 2096.4 "Priority" functionThe  remote  control  does  not  have  adefault  temperature  setting  andtherefore  has  no  default  "Priority"function.The "priority" will be attributedautomatically  by  the  first  user  whoselects  or  memorizes  (on  the  remotecontrol  or  on  the  heater’s  controlpanel)  a  temperature  for  subsequentuse (e.g. a shower).Then, when the hot water is used (e.g.for a shower), the heater's display andadditional remote control displays  willshow the symbol " ".The temperature may only be modifiedusing  the  same  buttons  that  set  it(depending  on  whether  the  controlpanel or the remote control was used).The  priority  device  will  not  have  thesymbol " ".To clear a device that is locked out with the " " symbol (with no hot water running) simply:Bpress and hold both the " " and" " buttons on that device for 5seconds.The "Priority" function ends:• 5  minutes  after  the  last  use  of  thehot water (return to basic set up).• 2  minutes  after  selecting/memorizing the temperature if no hotwater  is  used  immediatelyafterwards.Acquiring "priority”Any  user  can  acquire  "priority"  forsubsequent  use  of  hot  water,  asfollows:BMove the heater's main switch to theON position (I).BPress and hold " " or " " toselect the desired temperature.BPress and hold the "Program" but-ton until the symbol "Pr" appears on the remote control display.BUse  the  hot  water  within  twominutes of acquiring "priority”.iTemperature cannot be memorized or changed using the heater's control panel buttons or a second remote control when hot water is in use (e.g. during a shower) The "Priority" function will automatically activate to stop another user from modifying the temperature when hot water is in use.6720680209-0902_(New Remote control).fm  Page 15  Monday, January 19, 2009  8:58 AM
16Troubleshooting6 720 680 2096.5 Error messagesThis  device  has  an  error  messagesystem.  Any  errors  that  the  heatergenerates will be indicated by an errorcode  that  will  appear  on  the  display(Fig.  10,  pos.  1)  and  by  a  symbolindicating  a  "safety  block"  (Fig.  10,pos.  7).  The  remote  control  will  beoperative only after pressing the resetbutton  on the heater and  clearing theerror.To  identify  the  type  of  error  or  if  theerror will not clear, consult the heaterinstallation manual.7 Troubleshooting7.1 Replacing batteriesWhen  batteries  are  weak,  the  lowbattery  symbol  (Fig. 10,  pos.  5)  willappear on the display.BRemove the two screws on the backof the remote control.BOpen  the  battery  housing  andremove  the  batteries,  then  replacewith  new  AA  1.5V  batteries,ensuring they are inserted correctly.BClose the battery housing using thetwo screws.7.2 CleaningUse a damp cloth to clean parts of theremote control. Do not use abrasive orsolvent-based detergents.7.3 Troubleshooting1. No display on remote controlBCheck for weak or dead batteries (see section 7.1).Remote control in sleep mode.i"Priority"  cannot  beacquired  while  the  hotwater tap is open.iVerify  that  the  rubberseal  is  correctly  fittedbetween  both  plastichousing parts.Warning: dead batteries must be replaced. Remote control will not activate/ no number with rotating digitBEnsure that you are standing directlyin  front  of  the  water  heater  whenattempting to activate.BEnsure  that  no  other  device  in  thearea,  such  as  a  cordless  phone,  isoperating  on  a  frequency  similar  tothe remote (915 MHz) and causinginterference.BDouble  check  all  wire  connectionsmade  under  section 4.1  or  section5.1  of  the  remote  control  manual.Pay close attention to the wire con-necting  the  remote's  PCB  to  theheater's main PCB.3. Remote display shows "- -" onlyBVerify  the  water  heater's  ON/OFFswitch  is  turned  to  the  ON  (I)position. If the water heater's displayis  still  blank,  verify  the  heater  isplugged into  a live  120VAC/ 60Hzproperly grounded outlet.BVerify there is proper voltage to thewater heater (120VAC/60Htz).BVerify  the  remote  is  within  themaximum  distance  from  the  waterheater of 98 feet.BEnsure  that  no  other  device  in  thearea,  such  as  a  cordless  phone,  isoperating  on  a  frequency  similar  tothe remote (915 MHz) and causinginterference4. Error code and “ ” symbol will not clear from remoteBError  codes  cannot  be  reset  byusing the remote. All errors must becleared  by  using  the  reset  button on the water heater's controlpaneliIf  not  used  for  a  fewminutes,  the  remote'sdisplay  will  go  blank  tosave the batteries.iLarge  amounts  of  metalor  concrete  in  thestructure  may  have  ablocking  effect  on  theremote's  signal. 18Troubleshooting6 720 680 209• If an error code is generated immedi-ately  after  the  installation  of  theremote  control  transceiver  PCB,ensure  that  the  two  large  electricalconnectors (Fig. ) on the main PCBare properly seated.• Error  code  may  not  be  resettable.Consult  water  heater's  installationmanual  or  www.boschpro.com  forfurther  troubleshooting  on  errorcodes.5. Remote will not memorize desired temperature settingBVerify  that  the  remote  control"program" button is depressed untilthe remote display reads "Pr".6. Priority " " symbol will not clearBVerify  no  hot  water  is  being  usedwhen  trying  to  clear  "priority"function.BWith  no  hot  water  running,  pressand  hold  the  “ ”  or  “ ”buttons for 5 seconds on the lockedout device (remote or water heater)until  the  " "  symbol  (Fig. 10,Pos. 6) disappears.BDo not use any hot water for at least5  minutes.  The  priority  functionshould automatically clear after thistime period.iMemorization of a selected temperature only saves to the device on which it was originally programmed.
