Description:
InstallingaBudderflyadaptertransformsyourbuilding’sexistingwiringintothe“BudderflyOpenNetwork”andallowstheadapter
tomonitorenergyconsumptionandcommunicatethedatatoafacilitycontroller.
Budderflyadaptorswillusetheexistingpowerlineforcommunicationandthusrequirenore‐wiring.
UsingourBudderflysoftware,youcanvisualizeconsumptiondataandmanageeachindividualadapter.
TheBudderflyPowerMeterisacomponentoftheBudderflysystemanddesignedtoworkwithallotherBudderflydevices.Once
installed,theBudderflyPowerMeteralsoactsasrepeaterstoextendtherangeofthenetworkandincreaseefficiency.

MonitoringNoNeutralswitches:
‐ BudderflypowermetermustbeconnectedtoanybranchincludingBudderflynoneutralswitches
‐ Thepowermetermonitorsthebranchandreportsallchangesinpowertothefacilitycontrollertocalculatethe
energyconsumptionofeverynoneutralswitch.
Installation:
1‐ BudderflyPowermetercannotbelocatedinsidethepanelboard.
2‐ BudderflyPowermeterrequireaswitchorcircuitbreakeraspartofthebuildinginstallation.
3‐ AnequipmentswitchorcircuitbreakeremployedasdisconnectingdeviceshallmeettherelevantrequirementsofIEC
60947‐1andIEC60947‐3andbesuitablefortheapplication
4‐ Aswitchorcircuitbreakershallnotinterruptanyprotectiveearthconductor.
5‐ ItisrecommendedthatthePowerMeterbemountednearthedisconnectingdevice.
6‐ Ifasuitablemountinglocationneartheloadcentercannotbefound,additionalinlinefusesorcircuitbreakermaybe
requiredinaccordancewithNECregulations.
7‐ TheswitchorcircuitbreakermustbemarkedasthedisconnectingdevicefortherespectiveBudderflyPowerMeter,
additionallyIandOlabelstobeusedtoidentifyconnectinganddisconnectingpositions.
8‐ LocatetheCircuitBreakerofthebranchcircuittobemonitored,applytheidentificationandON/OFF(I/O)Labelsandset
ittothe“OFF”position,andidentifythewirethatisleavingthisbreaker.

9‐ TurnOFFthePowerSupplytotheelectricalpanelbylocatingthe“ServiceDisconnect”or“Main”circuitbreakerinthe
electricalpanelandsetittothe“OFF”position.
10‐ Testthepanelforpower,byusingatesterormetersettothehighestACvoltagerange,andcheckforthepresenceof
powerbytouchingoneprobetotheHotterminalsofthebranchcircuitbreakers.
11‐ Select#8or#10panheadscrewssuitableforthesurfacewherethepowermeterwillbemounted
12‐ Fastentheenclosuretotheselectedsurfaceviathe4mountingholes(refertofigurebelow).
13‐ BudderflyPowerMeterhas4pre‐defined½inchconduitknockouts.
Opentheknockoutwereneededandfixtheconduitusingasuitableconduithub.
14‐ Verifythattheenclosureisnotlooseandthatallconnectionsaresecure.
15‐ Makesuretheconduitfittingsarealignedproperlyandtightenedsecurely.
16‐ ConnecttheBudderfly
PowerMeterinserieswith
theCircuitBreakerofthe
branchcircuitaccordingto
thebelowsteps:
a. ConnecttheLINEwire
(black)ofthePower
MetertotheLINEwire
thatisleavingthe
circuitbreaker.
b. ConnecttheLOADwire
(red)ofthePower
MetertotheLINEwire
thatisfeedingthe
branchcircuit.
c. ConnecttheNEUTRAL
(white)ofthePower
MetertotheNEUTRAL
wireoftheelectrical
panel.
d. Ensurethatallthewire
connectorsarefirmly
attachedandthatthere
isnoexposedcopper
insidethebox.

18‐ Restorethepowertotheelectricalpanelbysettingthecircuitbreakermentionedaboveandthe“Main”circuitbreakerto
“ON”,andcheckforcorrectoperationofthebranchcircuit(lights,outlets,etc.).

Communication:
TheBudderflyPowerMeterusesthepowerlineandradiofrequencytocommunicatewiththe“FacilityController”.
ThisMetercanreplytothefollowingcommands:
• Join/Disjoingroup“X”:TheBudderflyPowerMeterwillJoin/Disjointhegroup“X”.EachMetercanbememberofseveral
groupsatthesametime.
• DirectRTCsynchronization:TheBudderflyPowerMetercanreceiveacommandtosynchronizeits“RealTimeClock”
• GetActualMeasurement:WhentheBudderflyPowerMeterreceivesa“GetMeasurement”command,itwillsendbackto
thefacilitycontrollerastringofdatathatcontains:

BudderflyLLCwarrantstotheoriginalconsumerpurchaserandnotforthebenefitofanyoneelsethatthisproductatthetimeofits
salebyBudderflyisfreeofdefectsinmaterialandworkmanshipundernormalandproperuseforaperiodofthree(3)yearsfrom
dateofdeliverytoyou.Budderfly’sonlyobligationistocorrectsuchdefectsbyrepairorreplacement,atitsoption,ifwithinsuch
threeyearperiodtheproductisreturnedprepaidviaBudderfly’sReturnedMaterialsAuthorization(RMA)processtoBudderfly
LLC,Att:QualityAssuranceDepartment,4CorporateDrive,Suite387,Shelton,CT06484.Innocaseisproducttobereturned
withoutfirstobtaininganRMA.
Thiswarrantyexcludesandthereisdisclaimedliabilityforlaborforremovalofthisproductorreinstallation.Thiswarrantyisvoidif
thisproductisinstalledimproperlyorinanimproperenvironment,overloaded,misused,opened,abused,oralteredinany
manner,orisnotusedundernormaloperatingconditionsornotinaccordancewithanylabelsorinstructions.Therearenoother
orimpliedwarrantiesofanykind,includingmerchantabilityandfitnessforaparticularpurpose,butifanyimpliedwarrantyis
requiredbytheapplicablejurisdiction,thedurationofanysuchimpliedwarrantyisrequiredbytheapplicablejurisdiction,the
durationofanysuchimpliedwarranty,includingmerchantabilityandfitnessforaparticularpurpose,islimitedtothreeyears.
Budderflyisnotliableforincidental,indirect,special,orconsequentialdamages,includingwithoutlimitation,damageto,orloss
ofuseof,anyequipment,lostsalesorprofitsordelayorfailuretoperformthiswarrantyobligation.Budderfly’sliabilityonany
claimfordamagesarisingoutofinconnectionwiththemanufacture,sales,installationdelivery,oruseoftheproductshall
neverexceedthepurchasepriceoftheproduct.Theremediesprovidedhereinaretheexclusiveremediesunderthiswarranty,
whetherbasedoncontract,tortorotherwise.
