Do not touch the plug with wet hands. The AC adaptor is used as the main disconnect device. Ensure that the AC outlet is installed near the product and is easily accessible. Note: • The AC adaptor must remain connected at all times. (It is normal for the adaptor to feel warm during use.) • The AC adaptor should be connected to a vertically oriented or floor-mounted AC outlet. Do not connect the AC adaptor to a ceiling-mounted AC outlet, as the weight of the adaptor may cause it to become disconnected. • The unit will not work during a power failure. We recommend connecting a standard telephone to the same telephone line or to the same telephone jack using a Panasonic T-adaptor. Emergency power can be supplied to the unit by connecting a Panasonic battery back-up power supply. If you subscribe to a DSL service Please attach a noise filter (contact your DSL provider) to the telephone line between the base unit and the telephone line jack in the event of the following: – Noise is heard during conversations. – Caller ID features do not function properly. For maximum distance and noise-free operation, we recommend the following: • Placing the product away from electrical appliances. • Placing the base unit in a HIGH and CENTRAL location with no obstructions such as walls. • Raising the antenna vertically. • If you use the handset near a microwave oven which is being used, noise may be heard. Move away from the microwave oven and closer to the base unit. • If you use the handset near another cordless phone’s base unit, noise may be heard. Move away from the other cordless phone’s base unit and closer to your base unit. – Handset unit To prevent the risk of fire or electrical shock, do not expose the product to rain or any type of moisture. If additional dialing is necessary after using speeding dialing functions such as phonebook dialing or REDIAL, wait until speed dialing is finished to continue further dialing. Otherwise, the unit may not dial properly. Display language LOCATOR button • You can customize the unit by programming the following features using the handset. You can change the ringer tone heard when an outside call is received. There are 3 ringer tones. The default setting is “RINGER TONE 1”. Available model: KX-TG2122 To reduce the risk of fire or injury to persons, read and follow these instructions. • Use only the battery(ies) specified. • Do not dispose of the battery(ies) in a fire. They may explode. Check with local waste management codes for special disposal instructions. • Do not open or mutilate the battery(ies). Caller ID features When an outside call is being received, the calling party's name and telephone number are displayed. Caller information for the last 40 different callers is logged in the caller list by the most recent call to the oldest. • Generally caller information is displayed from the 2nd ring. • If the unit cannot receive caller information, the following is displayed: "OUT OF AREA": The caller dialed from an area which does not provide Caller ID service. "PRIVATE CALLER": The caller requested not to send caller information. "ERROR": The Caller ID information is interfered with during reception. • If the unit is connected to a PBX system, caller information may not be received propeqflŸ. Consult your PBX supplier. • The name display service may not be available in some areas. For further information, please contact your telephone company. Select “YES” or “NO” by using [] or [] button. Missed calls Press [EDIT] button. If a call is not answered, the unit treats the call as a missed call. For example, 10 number of missed calls: "NEW CALL 10" is displayed on the handset display. This lets you know if you should view the caller list to see who called while you were out. Calling Waiting Caller ID display If you subscribe to both Caller ID and Call Waiting with Caller ID services, the 2nd caller's information is displayed after you hear a Call Waiting tone. Finding and calling a handset phonebook item Press [FUNCTION]. Press [] or [] . The first item or last item is displayed. Press [] to scroll from the memory station "01", or [] to scroll from memory station "10". You can also find the items using the memory station numbers [ 0 ] to [ 9 ] directly. The memory station number [ 1 ] shows "01", [ 0 ] shows "10" on the display. Press [ • • Press [] or [] to enter the caller list. Select the desired item by using [] or []. To edit the number, press [EDIT] repeatedly until the phone number is shown in the desired format. Editing items in the handset phonebook Press a memory station number [ 0 ] to [ 9 ]. The memory station number [ 1 ] shows "01", [ 0 ] shows "10" on the display. Press [] or [] to enter the caller list. Select the desired item by using [] or []. Press [CLEAR], then press [OFF]. Erasing all caller information Press [] or [] to enter the caller list. Press and hold [CLEAR] until "CLEAR ALL CID ?" is displayed. Press [CLEAR]. Phonebook 14 Handset phonebook Storing names and numbers You can add up to 10 items to the handset phonebook and search for phonebook items by name. Note: If "EMPTY" is displayed in step 2, the phonebook is empty. If the phone number is more than 12 digits, the whole number has not been shown. The remaining numbers are displayed alternately. Press [FUNCTION]. Erasing selected caller information Press [FUNCTION]. Press a memory station number [ 0] to [ 9 ]. If an item is already stored, that information is displayed. To stop paging, press [LOCAOTR] again. Handset: • 2 Base unit: To stop paging, press [OFF]. You can temporarily switch the dialing mode to tone when you need to access touch tone services (for example, answering services, telephone banking services, etc.). Press [ * ] (TONE) before entering access numbers which require tone dialing. Pause button (for PBX/long distance service users) A pause is sometimes required when making calls using a PBX or long distance service. For example, if you need to dial the line access number "9" when making outside calls with a PBX: Press [ 9 ], then press [PAUSE], then dial the phone number. Press [ ]. Note: • A 3.5 second pause is inserted each time [PAUSE] is pressed. Press repeatedly to insert longer pauses. Press [FUNCTION]. The handset display is blank. You cannot program items, such as the dialing mode. • • • • • • • • You cannot redial by pressing [REDIAL]. • • “RECHARGE” and “ ” are displayed or the handset beeps intermittently. You are too far from the base unit. Move closer and try again. Place the handset on the base unit and try again. Plug in the AC adaptor. Raise the base unit antenna. Locate the handset and the base unit away from other electrical appliances. Move closer to the base unit. Raise the base unit antenna. Press [CH] to select a clearer channel in the talk mode. The ringer volume is set to [OFF]. Set to [ON]. If a power failure occurs, the handset loses communication with the base. When power returns, place the handset on the base unit once then try again. Install the battery properly. Charge the battery fully. Programming is not possible while the unit is in the talk mode or when viewing the Caller List/ phonebook. Do not pause for over 60 seconds while programming. Move closer to the base unit. []or [] may have been pressed when you picked up the handset. Press [OFF] and try again. • While talking, the call is disconnected. • You charged the battery fully, but “RECHARGE” and “ ” are still displayed. • • The IN USE/CHARGE indicator light does not go out while charging. • You cannot have a conversation using the handset. • You cannot have a conversation using the headset. • For Call Waiting service users To use Call Waiting, you must subscribe to Call Waiting service of your telephone service provider. This feature allows you to receive calls while you are already talking on the phone. If you receive a call while on the phone, you will hear a Call Waiting tone. Please contact your telephone service provider for details and availability of this service in your area. Press [FLASH] to answer the 2nd call after the tone. • To switch between calls, press [FLASH]. Press [EDIT]. Edit the name using the dial key, [] or [] (max. 15 characters). Connecting an optional headset to the handset Press [EDIT]. Edit the phone number using the dial key, [] or [] (max. 32 digits). Press [EDIT]. Press [FUNCTION] • Select the desired item by using [] or []. You can also find the items using the memory station number [ 0 ] to [ 9 ] directly. Press [CLEAR]. Interference from other electrical units. Check the settings. Charge the battery fully. Clean the charge contacts and charge again. Install the battery properly. When power failure occurs or you reconnect the AC adaptor, you must place each handset on the base unit once to reactivate them. Place the handset on the base unit and unplug the AC adaptor to reset. Plug in, and try again. Cause and Remedy When pressing [REDIAL] after [ ], more than 32 digits long number will not be redialed correctly. ] after [REDIAL], more than 24 digits long When pressing [ number will not be redialed correctly. Charge the battery fully. The battery needs to be recharged. Charge the battery fully. Clean the charge contacts and charge again. Install a new battery. Enter the name (max. 15 characters), using the dialing buttons [ 1 ] to [ 9 ], [] or []. If a name is not required, press [EDIT] and go to step 6. Press [EDIT]. This is normal. When an optional headset is connected, you must use the headset to talk with the caller. To have a normal cordless phone conversation, disconnect the headset. Make sure that an optional headset is connected properly. Press [FUNCTION]. Plugging an optional headset into the handset allows a hands-free phone conversation. Open the headset jack cover, and connect an optional headset to the headset jack. Please use only a Panasonic headset. • When an optional headset is connected to the handset, make sure to use the headset to talk with the caller. If you want to have a normal cordless phone conversation, disconnect the headset. 17 Wall mounting Base unit Connect the telephone line cord. Mount the unit by inserting the mounting pins into the round openings on the adaptor (for pin B, use round cut out at the bottom of the adaptor if you are using the 4 inches phone plate), then sliding the unit down to secure it. Connect the AC adaptor to power outlet. • There are two common types of wall phone plates. The distance between A and B may vary depending on the size of the wall phone plate installed. Review phonebook items by using [] or []. Press and hold [CLEAR] until "CLEAR ALL ?" is displayed. Press [CLEAR]. Cause and Remedy 19 FCC and other information You cannot store an item in the phonebook while the unit is in the talk mode. Do not pause for over 60 seconds while storing. This equipment complies with Part 68 of the FCC rules and the requirements adopted by the ACTA. On the bottom of this equipment is a label that contains, among other information, a product identifier in the format US:ACJ———. If requested, this number must be provided to the telephone company, • To answer the call, press [ /FLASH] . Start again from the beginning after hanging up. • • • You need to subscribe to a Caller ID service from a telephone company. Other telephone equipment may be interfering with your phone. Disconnect it and try again. Other electrical appliances connected to the same outlet may be interfering with the Caller ID information. Telephone line noise may be affecting the Caller ID information. Problem You cannot store a name and phone number in the phonebook. • While programming or searching, the handset starts to ring and stops the program/search. The handset does not display the caller’s name and/or phone number. • • • • The display goes to the standby mode while viewing the Caller List. • Do not pause for over 60 seconds while searching. When a second call is received during a conversation, the unit does not display the new caller’s name and/ or phone number. • The caller requested not to send his/her information. [LOCATOR] does not function. • • The handset is too far from the base unit. The handset is engaged in an outside call. Wait until the IN USE/CHARGE indicator light goes out.
