Read and understand all instructions.2. Follow all warnings and instructions marked on the telephone.3. Unplug this telephone from the wall outlet before cleaning or replacing the BATTERYPACK. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners on the telephone. Use a damp clothfor cleaning.4. Do not use this telephone near water, for example, near a bath tub, wash bowl, kitchensink, or laundry tub, in a wet basement, or near a swimming pool.5. Place this telephone on a stable surface. Serious damage and/or injury may result if thetelephone falls.6. Do not cover the slots and openings on this telephone. This telephone should not beplaced near or over a radiator or heat register. This telephone should not be placed in abuilt-in installation unless proper ventilation is provided.7. Operate this telephone using the electrical voltage as stated on the BASE UNIT of thetelephone or in the Owner’s Manual. If you are not sure of the voltage in your home,consult your dealer or local power company.8. Do not place anything on the power cord. Install the telephone where no one will step ortrip on the cord.9. Do not overload wall outlets or extension cords as this can increase the risk of fire orelectric shock.10. Never push objects of any kind through the slots in the telephone. They could touchdangerous voltage points or short out parts that could result in a risk of fire or electricshock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the telephone.11. To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble this telephone. Take it to aqualified service representative when service or repair work is required. Opening orremoving covers may expose you to dangerous voltages or other risks. Incorrectreassembly can cause electric shock when the telephone is subsequently used.12. Unplug this telephone from the wall outlet and consult a qualified service representativein any of the following situations:A. When the power supply cord is frayed or damaged.B. Do not dispose of the BATTERY PACK in a fire. The BATTERY PACK may explode. Checkwith local codes for possible special disposal instructions.3. Do not open or mutilate the BATTERY PACK. Released electrolyte is corrosive and maycause damage to the eyes or skin. Electrolyte may be toxic if swallowed.4. Exercise care in handling the BATTERY PACK to prevent shorting the BATTERY PACKwith conductive materials such as rings, bracelets, and keys. The BATTERY PACK orconductor may overheat and cause burns.5. Charge the BATTERY PACK provided with (or identified for use with) this telephone onlyin accordance with the instructions and limitations specified in this manual.6. Observe  proper  polarity  orientation  between  the  BAT T E RY PACK  and  BAT T E RYCHARGER.SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONSATTENTION:The telephone that you have purchased contains a rechargeable BATTERY PACK. TheBATTERY PACK is recyclable. At the end of its useful life, under various state and local laws,it may be illegal to dispose of this BATTERY PACK into the municipal waste stream. 5Getting StartedConnecting Your PhoneThis section is a reference guide to the basic functions and operations of your cordlesstelephone. For more detailed descriptions of the operations and features of this telephone,refer to the Contents on page 1.1. Carefully remove your cordless telephone from its shipping carton. If there is any visibledamage, do not attempt to operate this equipment. Return it to the place of purchase.2. Check to be sure you have all items that come with this cordless telephone system. Youshould have two HANDSETS,BASE UNIT, two AC ADAPTER, MOUNTING BRACKET,TELEPHONE LINE CORD, SHORT TELEPHONE LINE CORD, two BELT CLIP, and anOwner’s Manual.3. Insert the small plug on the end of the AC ADAPTER into the POWER-IN CONNECTIONJACK at the back of the BASE UNIT.4. Plug the AC ADAPTER into a 120V AC wall outlet.USE ONLY WITH CLASS 2 POWER SOURCE 9V DC, 300 mA.5. Insert one plug of the TELEPHONE LINE CORD into the house TELEPHONE JACK andthe other end into the TELEPHONE LINE CONNECTION JACK at the back of the BASEUNIT. (If you have an older 4-prong TELEPHONE JACK, you will need an RJ-11CTELEPHONE JACK ADAPTER. This adapter is available at the same place you purchasedyour telephone.)6. Connect the other AC ADAPTER to CHARGER UNIT.7. We recommend not placing this unit next to appliances. 6Getting Started8. Install the BATTERY PACK by plugging it into theBATTERY CONNECTOR inside the BATTERYCOMPARTMENT. The HANDSET LCD Screenwill display “RING: HI”.9. Place the BATTERY PACK inside the BATTERYCOMPARTMENT.10.Slide the H A N D S E T B AT T E RY C O M PA RT M E N TCOVER firmly into place in its closed position.11. Place one H A N D S E T to cradle of BASE UNIT(Donot charge the HANDSET with the KEYPADface down), and the other one to the CHARGERUNIT.12.IMPORTANT: Before initial use, charge theHANDSET for 12 hours. 13.TONE/PULSE Select Switch:A. If your home is equipped with a tone dialingsystem, set the TONE/PULSE Select Switchto the TONE position.B. If you have a rotary dialing system, set theTONE/PULSE Select Switch to the PULSEposition.C. If you are unsure which system you have, setthe TONE/PULSE Select Switch to the TONEposition. Press the  button on theH A N D S E T and  make  a  call.  If  the  callconnects, leave the switch as is; otherwiseset to the PULSE position.TALK
7Getting StartedPress the  button to confirm thatyou have a dial tone. If you do not get adial tone, review steps 3 through 11. Ifyou still do not have a dial tone, refer tothe Problem Solving section on page 31.With the back of the HANDSET facingup, insert one side of the BELT CLIPHOOK into the matching slot at the topside of the HANDSET. Press down onthe opposite side of the BELT CLIP untilthe other HOOK locks into the slot on theside of the HANDSET.14. Set the date and time. (See page 23 for details.)You are now ready to use your newXACT Cordless Telephone.TALKIMPORTANTIn order to utilize the Caller ID feature, you mustsubscribe to Caller ID service from your localtelephone company.ANTENNAHANDSET BELT CLIP HOOK
8Desk MountingDesk MountingOne of the special features of your telephone is the unique design of the MOUNTINGBRACKET which can hold your phone at an angle when desk mounting or wall mounting.With the back of the BASE UNIT facing up, insert the hooks of the MOUNTING BRACKETinto the slots of the BASE UNIT (as shown in Figure 2).IMPORTANT: Attach the MOUNTING BRACKET when using your phone on a desk.IMPORTANTPlacing your BASE UNIT near appliances such astelevisions, refrigerators, radios, or microwave ovensmay cause interference.FIGURE 2FIGURE 1
9Wall MountingWall MountingYou may choose to put the BASE UNIT of your cordless telephone on a wall.1. With the back of the BASE UNIT facing up, insert the hooks of the MOUNTING BRACKETinto the matching slots on the back of the BASE UNIT (positioning the mounting bracketas shown in Figure 1.)2. Insert the small plug on the end of the AC ADAPTER into the POWER-IN CONNECTIONJACK at the back of the BASEUNIT and put the AC ADAPTER CORD inside the MOLDEDWIRING CHANNEL as shown in Figure 2. 3. Plug the AC ADAPTER into a 120V wall outlet.4. Connect the SHORT TELEPHONE LINE CORD to the TELEPHONE LINE CONNECTIONJACK. Put the SHORT TELEPHONE LINE CORD inside the top half of the other MOLDEDWIRING CHANNEL as shown in Figure 2.5. Plug the free end of the SHORT TELEPHONE LINE CORD into the MODULAR WALLJACK. 10Wall MountingIMPORTANT: A “beep” will be heard when the HANDSET is properly positioned in the BASEUNIT CHARGE CRADLE and charging. Securely positioning the HANDSETin the BASE UNIT will also prevent the HANDSET from falling.IMPORTANT:The CHARGER UNIT does not have theWA L L MOUNTING  Feature.  Place  theCHARGER UNIT on a stable surface andcharge the HANDSET.The POWER LEDindicates  the  AC  ADAPTER  installedproperly. The CHARGER LED lights up whenthe HANDSET is charged properly.
