The proper methods for the connection of the output from the VIM module must be determined by the installer at the time of installation. This document will be divided into two sections. The first will focus on the installation of the V7A and the second will focus on the installation of the VIM module. The V7A and the VIM will be paired at the time of manufacture and should be kept together until they are installed in a vehicle. The V7A and the VIM module communicate via a wireless connection using an encrypted serial protocol. While the link is designed to be very robust, there are some attributes that must be considered when installing these devices into a vehicle. It is assumed that both the V7A and the VIM module will be installed inside the passenger compartment of the vehicle. V7A The V7A should be installed using the same guidelines as a typical VLU7 EW. • The Unit should be installed within the passenger compartment of the vehicle • The Unit should be concealed as well as possible • The Unit must be securely fastened • The two ground lugs must be securely fastened to chassis ground in the vehicle • If the unit is vehicle powered, it must be connected to a clean, constant, non‐computer controlled 12 volt source • The antenna must be installed per the approved antenna installation guidelines • The unit should not be installed in a location that results in the device being completely encased in metal. The antenna for the transmitter that communicates to the VIM is located inside the module. VIM Module The VIM module will typically be installed in a location that allows easy access to the immobilizer device. The following steps will allow for reliable communication with the V7A. • • • • • • The unit should be installed within the passenger compartment of the vehicle The unit should be concealed in a way that it is not readily visible to the user or a thief The unit should be securely fastened The top side of the unit should not be placed in direct contact with a metallic surface The unit should not be installed in a location that results in the device being completely encased in metal. The antenna for the transmitter that communicates to the V7A is located inside the module. The VIM module has the following input terminals o NC ‐ Normally Closed contact o COM ‐ Common o IGN ‐ Ignition o ‐ ‐ Chassis Ground o + ‐ constant 12 volt Typical Starter Interrupt Wiring Document ID #: 5531-0001-IG Page 6 of 8 LOJACK CONFIDENTIAL PROPRIETARY DOCUMENT NOT TO BE COPIED OR RETRANSMITTED IN ANY FORM WITHOUT PRIOR AUTHORIZATION Revision: "1.0" 5531-0001-IG V7A&VIM Installation Guide Starter Starter Ignition Chassis Constant 12 Document ID #: 5531-0001-IG Page 7 of 8 LOJACK CONFIDENTIAL PROPRIETARY DOCUMENT NOT TO BE COPIED OR RETRANSMITTED IN ANY FORM WITHOUT PRIOR AUTHORIZATION Revision: "1.0" 5531-0001-IG V7A&VIM Installation Guide 5531-0001-IG V7A&VIM Installation Guide Revision: "1.0" 5531-0001-IG Document ID #: 5531-0001-IG Page 8 of 8 LOJACK CONFIDENTIAL PROPRIETARY DOCUMENT NOT TO BE COPIED OR RETRANSMITTED IN ANY FORM WITHOUT PRIOR AUTHORIZATION
