Do not initiatecalls, perform pairing, linking or similaroperations while driving.Most electronic equipment is shieldedfrom RF signals. Such  Audio Connectorscan either be ordered directly from CardoSystems, Inc. or from appropriate retailstores.4. Before UsingRead and familiarize yourself with allinstructions and components of yourallways™ Headset prior to use and inparticular before driving.  Safety first!!!4.1 Charging BatteriesMake sure the equipment (Headset and/orAdapter) is fully charged prior to initialuse.  Allow 4 hours for a full charge beforeusing for the first time. Thereafter, it willrequire approximately 2-3 hours tocomplete a full charge.Charge the Headset (and if applicable theAdapter unit) using the included chargerby plugging into a standard 110/220V-wall socket. You must fully charge yourequipment prior to initial use(approximately 2.5 hours for a full charge).The light indicator will remain red untilyour allways™ Headset or Adapter is fullycharged; when fully charged, the lightindicator will turn to steady blue. 5.Getting Started with theallways™ HeadsetTurn On/OffPress and hold the CONTROL button(CTRL) for at least 3 seconds until the bluelight indicator flashes and an alert tone isheard. Release the button. If you have notcompleted pairing, and this is the firsttime you have turned ON the Headset,the blue light indicator will start flashingrapidly (2 times per second), indicatingthat the device is in pairing mode. Pleaseread the pairing mode instructions belowfor more details.If the Headset is already paired, the bluelight indicator will start flashing slowly(one flash every 5 seconds), indicatingthat the device is in standby mode. Toturn off, press and hold the CTRL buttonfor at least 3 seconds until the red lightindicator flashes and an alert tone is heard.Quickly release the button.PairingPairing is a required process in which theallways™ Headset and your Bluetooth™enabled mobile phone become acquaintedwith each other for the first time. At theend of this process both devices retaininformation about each other, so thatevery time you turn one of them on, itwill look for the other device and will beable to operate automatically with it.Pairing is required only the first time fora specific allways™ Headset and a specificmobile phone. Please refer to the Pairingsection of your mobile phone’s manualprior to initiating the process.Perform Pairing1. Turn on the Headset and mobile phone.2. Press and hold the CTRL button of theHeadset for at least 8 seconds until theblue light indicator light starts flashingrapidly (3 flashes per second). Release thebutton.NOTE: While pressing the CTRL button,the red light indicator will flash after 3seconds. Do not release the button yet;wait for the blue light indicator to flash.• Activate the Bluetooth‘ function on yourphone and initiate the search mode forother Bluetooth‘ devices or Headsets.Your phone should now find the allways™Headset and the name "All Ways" shouldappear on your screen.• When prompted, select the allways‘Headset and enter 0000 as the PIN code(4 zeros) on your phone’s keypad.• If successful, your allways™ Headsetshould start blinking in blue every 5seconds (slow blinking).Congratulations! You have nowsuccessfully completed your Bluetooth‘pairing process and are able to use yourallways™ Headset in conjunction withyour mobile phone.Getting StartedHeadset Manual   11
5.3 Linking the allways™ Headset toa paired phoneAlthough you may have previously pairedyour Headset to your phone, each timeyou turn one of them off, you may needto reestablish the link. Linking may alsobe necessary when your Headset andphone have lost the radio signal becausethe distance between them is greater than30 feet or 10 meters. After you haveturned on your Headset and mobilephone, there are three methods toreestablish the link:• With some mobile phones you need tore-establish the link to your Headset byusing your phone’s menu. Please refer toyour mobile phone manual for operatinginstructions.• Assuming your mobile phone enablesvoice activation, press briefly the CTRLbutton on your allways™ Headset. Thiswill activate your voice dial function onthe phone, indicating that the link isestablished.• Do nothing. Once a call is received,answer by pressing the CTRL button.Note: Most available  Bluetooth™ phonesstill do not support this method.5.4  Wearing the HeadsetUsing the ear-loop  FIG. aBecause every user has a differently shapedear, it is important to initially adjust theear loop's curvature to comfortably fityour particular ergonomic preference. Theear loop is flexible but retains a rigid andstable posture after adjustment. Thus, youmay chose to adjust the loop as a closefit around the ear, or you may prefer amore loose application. You may evenneed to adjust the ear-loop's exactcurvature several times until you find themost comfortable shape, so that thespeaker hovers exactly above the earchannel. Some users find it convenient tostraighten the loop entirely and bend itaround the ear every time they put on thedevice.curving ratchetGetting Started12  †Headset Manual
• Insert the ear loop ratchet into theholding duct on the back of the Headset(Fig a.)• Determine the height of the loop byadjusting the depth to which you insertthe ratchet into the holding duct (FIG. a).with the objective to insert speaker intothe outer part of your ear channel.(Fig b and c.).• Hold the headset as shown in FIG.b andpush with your pointing finger againstthe flexible curvature to create an openingbetween ear-loop and speaker as shownin FIG c. While continuing to push againstthe curvature• place the ear-loop around your ear asshown in FIG d. and fasten it to achievea steady and comfortable grip.• Insert the speaker into the ear, just asdeep as you feel comfortable with.Alternatively, you may also choose to bendopen the loop and then strap it aroundyour ear until you accomplish acomfortable fit as shown in FIG. e and f.FIG. g• You can wear the Headset on the leftof the right side of your head by insertingthe ratchet accordingly (FIG g).Note: The location of the  control buttonschanges relative to the side of the head youhave chosen to wear the Headset. If you useyour left ear, the volume and Mute/Set buttonswill be on the bottom part of the Headset.Ifyou use your right ear, the volume and Mute/Setbuttons will be on the upper part of the Headset.5.4.1  The Eye/Sun-glass attachmentThe Eye/Sun-glass attachment (the "Clip")fits a wide range of arms. the Headset’s speaker so it protrudesexactly into your the ear-channel.5.4.2 The Eye/Sun-glass attachmentThe position of the Eye/Sun-glassattachment, or "Clip" should be fixedon the arm of the glasses, so it allows theHeadset’s speaker to protrude slightly intothe ear-channel (FIG d).• Insert the Clip’s ratchet into the holdingduct on the back of the Headset (FIG a)FIG a• Determine the height of the Headsetrelative to the glasses by adjusting thedepth to which you insert the ratchet intothe holding duct (FIG a).• Once you have inserted the Clip intothe holding duct, attach the entire Headsetby sliding the Clip from front to backalong the arm of the Eye/Sun-glasses untilthe speaker hovers above the inner cavityof your ear (FIG c). Exchanging the color panelsIt is easy to replace the color panel. Justinsert your fingernail or a pencil into thesmall tri-angular opening at the pointedtip of panel and pull it out gently. Thenpress the chosen panel firmly overopening.Protecting the headset while not inuseYour allways Headset is sturdy and reliable.To  protect it from scratches and similarimpacts while tossed among other objectsin your briefcase or pocket, you may wantto use our fashionable personal carry case.The case is designed to allow storing theHeadset with ear-loop or Eye/Sun-glassclip attached.6. Handling Calls with theallways™ Headset6.1 Answering CallsWhen your mobile phone is ringing youwill hear the ring tone either directly onthe Headset or from the phone. To answerthe call from the Headset, press brieflythe CTRL button.Note: Wait several seconds after pressingthe CTRL button until you hear a soundon the Headset. Pressing the CTRL buttonagain too soon might disconnect the call.Alternatively you may answer the call byusing your mobile phone keys. Audioconnection between Headset and phonewill automatically be established. In somemobile phone models the connectionmight be slightly delayed.6.2  Placing CallsYou can dial by using the mobile phone'skeys. If your mobile phone supports voiceactivation, you may also place your callaccordingly as described in the VoiceDialing section below. If you are initiatinga call by using the phone's keypad, yourcall will most likely be automaticallytransferred to the Headset.NOTE: Some mobile phones need priorconfiguration. Yet other phones mayrequire that you press the CTRL buttonon the Headset after making the call, toGetting StartedHeadset Manual   15
transfer audio to the Headset. Besides trialand error attempts, you may wish to visitour website to find out how best toconfigure your particular mobile phone.6.3 Terminating CallsTo terminate a call, press briefly the CTRLbutton. A sound will be heard, confirmingthe disconnection. Wait at least threeseconds before you can press the CTRLbutton again to place a new call.Alternatively, you can terminate a call byusing the END key of your mobile phone.Doing so, will automatically terminate theaudio connection between the Headsetand mobile phone. If the other partyterminates the call, no further action onyour part is required.6.4  Voice DialingThis feature is only available with mobilephones equipped with voice activationtechnology. To use voice activation youmust first assign voice tags to the desiredparties listed as your contacts in yourmobile phone (if you are not familiar withthis procedure, please refer to the manualof your mobile phone).While your phone is ON but no call is inprogress and the phone is not ringing,press the CTRL button briefly and a shortbeep will be heard. After the beep,pronounce the name of the party youwish to call and wait for feedback fromthe phone. The type of feedback dependson your phone (voice confirmation or noconfirmation).6.5  Volume ControlYou can adjust the volume on theallways™ Headset by pressing the left orright volume buttons to increase/decreasevolume. Every press - followed by a shortbeep - changes the audio level. Whenvolume is at the maximum/minimum,beeps are not heard. Continuous pressingon the volume button will continuouslyincrease/decrease the volume.6.7  Mute FunctionWhile a call is in progress, press brieflythe MUTE/SET button. You will hear atone indicating that you are in Mute mode,during which you continue to hear theother party, but your voice will not beheard on the other end. While a call is in progress useyour phone’s key pad (refer to your mobilephone manual) to transfer audio and voicefrom the phone to the Headset).Alternatively, some phones transfer callsto the Headset by pressing  once the CTRLbutton on the Headset.
Low Batteryallways™ is in pairing modeallways™ is paired to a mobile phone. This section is only applicable forusers who have purchasedtheuniversal BT Adapter8.Getting started with theallways™ BT Adapter and HeadsetTurning On/OffPress and hold the CONTROL (CTRL)button for at least 3 seconds until theblue light indicator flashes and an alerttone is heard. Release the button. If youhave not completed pairing  and this isthe first time you have turned ON thedevice, the blue light indicator will startflashing rapidly (3 times per second),indicating that the device is in pairingmode. Release the button.Note: As you press the CTRL button whileperforming the above procedure you willnotice that the light indicator turns redafter 3 seconds. Do not release buttonyet, and wait until the blue light indicatorflashes rapidly.• Upon successful completion of theprocedure, your allways™ Headset & BTAdapter should start blinking in blue every5 seconds (slow blinking). Now, as yourpairing process is complete, you are ableto use your allways™ Headset inconjunction with your BT Adapter.Linking Headset to a Paired BT AdapterIf you have already paired your Headsetto a BT Adapter before and you havesubsequently lost radio link between theunits (due to distance in excess of 30 ft.or 10m, or because either the Headset orHeadset Manual   19Adapter
