Frequently Asked Questions: My In Home Thermostat is not changing temperature when I adjust temperature on my Online Thermostat. Why? What happens if I change temperature using the AlertMe website or iPhone app when I am out of the house? Please wait for up to 2 minutes after making changes on your Online Thermostat for changes to take affect in your home. The temperature you set will be sent to your Thermostat and it adjusts your system accordingly. When you, or someone else, with a Keyfob, returns home the system will return to the temperature set in your Auto program. My In Home Thermostat doesn’t turn my Climate system off as soon as I leave my house. Why? AlertMe waits until a Keyfob has been out of the house for approximately 10 minutes before taking any action. This is so your system does not turn on or off unnecessarily, for example when you briefly leave the house to collect the mail or dump the trash. However, when you return home the Keyfob is detected immediately and adjusts you Thermostat to your ‘at home’ temperature. Do the Keyfobs do anything if I am not using Auto mode? No. Keyfobs are used solely to determine when you are in and out of the house to enable Auto mode. What happens in Auto mode when I take a Keyfob out of the house? The temperature changes to the away temperature whe all the Keyfobs enabled on your system are out of the house. What are the buttons on the Keyfobs for? When operating the system in Auto mode they allow you to switch between ‘home’ and ‘away’ temperature whilst the keyfob is still in the house. You could, for example, press the away button as you leave the house rather than waiting for the keyfob to be detected as away. I do not want to come home to an uncomfortably hot or cold house but still want to save energy. How can I ensure this? You can use the iPhone app or AlertMe website to change the temperature when you are on your way home to ensure you only heat or cool your house when needed, saving energy. For example, if you are in cooling mode and your home has an ‘away’ temperature of 85F and a ‘home’ temperature of 78F, in order to start cooling your home so that it is comfortable on your return you can use your iPhone to set the temperature to 80F on your way home. By setting it 5F higher than your ‘home’ temperature your home will start to cool without using as much energy as setting it to 78F. On your return your system will further cool to 78F when your Keyfob is detected. Can I adjust my system without going online? Yes. You can use your In Home Thermostat to change temperature and switch between modes (heat/ cool/ off). What is the Battery life of the Keyfobs and In Home Thermostat? Approximately 18 months. How do I check the battery level of my In Home Thermostat and Keyfobs? Go to the ‘Devices’ menu on your Online Dashboard. Here you will see the current battery level of all your devices. How does my In Home Thermostat connect to my Hub? AlertMe connects all of your devices wirelessly. No additional wiring is required. How far can my In Home Thermostat be from my Hub without losing wireless connection? As with any wireless system this depends on a number of factors but the system has been designed to work in domestic houses and has sufficient range to operate through up to 2 internal walls. My Hub is showing as Offl ine. What does this mean? This means that your Hub is no longer connected to the Internet. Check all of the connections to the Hub and your broadband router and that both are plugged into a live mains supply. If this does not fix the problem try turning you broadband router off and on again. I can’t set my away temperature to the same range as I can my day and night temperatures, why is this? The away temperature cannot be set lower than either the day or night temperatures (cool mode) or higher than either the day or night temperatures (heat mode). This ensures the system never costs more to run using Auto mode. Can I use AlertMe Climate Control without using Auto mode, ie as a conventional thermostat? Yes. Your Online Thermostat does everything a conventional thermostat does, with Hold and Schedule modes accessible through your Online Dashboard. What is Hold Mode? Hold mode allows you to set a single temperature and run your system at that temperature forever. Note: using Hold mode can use more energy unless you remember to manually change the thermostat when, for example, you go out or go to bed. If you do forget you can also use the iPhone app or website to make an adjustment away from home. What is Schedule Mode? Schedule mode is similar to Auto but changes temperature at a fixed time every day irrespective of whether you are at home or out of the house. Using the Keyfobs and Auto mode to determine when you are actually in your house should save you more energy. What is Auto Mode? In Auto mode you can set an overnight and day temperature. These will be set whenever you are in the home. If you leave the house the system detects this and automatically changes your thermostat to your away temperature.
