Installation10Configuring your PCThe instructions in this section will help you configureeach of your computers to be able to communicatewith the Wireless-G Broadband Router.Note: The following screenshots are taken inWindows 2000. For other OS, the configurationprocedure will be exactly the same but thescreenshots will vary.1. Right-click mouse button on the My Network Placeicon on your Windows desktop and selectProperties from the short-cut menu.
2. Right-click the Local Area Connection for theEthernet Adapter equipped on your computer andselect Properties from the shortcut menu.3. Click the General tab of the Location AreaConnection dialog box, select Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) and click Properties.11Installation
EnableDHCPFunctionObtaina StaticIDNote: The default IP address of the router is192.168.62.10 so the IP address for the EthernetAdapter must follow the 192.168.62.x IP addressformat and the IP should not be the same IP addressassigned to any other devices in the network.Installation124. In the General tab,  you can choose either obtainan IP address automatically or Use the following IPaddress.• Enable DHCP: Click the button of Obtain an IPaddress automatically.• Use static IP address: Click the button of Use thefollowing IP address. For example, in the IPaddress field, enter in the following IP address:192.168.62.11.

2. For initial setup, plug your desktop or notebookcomputer directly into the LAN Port #1 with theincluded CAT5 patch cable. Please make surethat your computer LAN setting is DHCP or192.168.62.x.  Submask: 255.255.255.0.14Quick Installation1. Take your IOGEAR® Wireless-G Broadband Routerout of box. Simply plug-in the included AC Adapterto the wall outlet, then to the Broadband Router.Make sure the power LED illuminates; otherwise,try another AC Wall Outlet.

Open your Internet Browser (Internet Explorer,Netscape, or Safari), and type in the following URLin your browser’s address bar: 192.168.62.10.  Yo uwill be brought to Enter Network Passwordprompt window. The default User Name is admin;Password is admin.
16Quick Installation5. You will now be asked for the Time Zone youare in.  Select your Time Zone, and selectwhether you wish to enable Daylight  SavingsTime. Click Next to continue.6.  You will now be asked for which InternetConnection Type you are using. When youselect the connection type, you will be asked foryour ISP’s configuration settings (if applicable).

Cable Modem and DHCP Client - If your broadbandaccess is through a cable modem, or if your IPaddress is automatically assigned by your serviceprovider or a DHCP server, you should choose thistype.• If your ISP gave you a Host Name or a MACaddress, you can enter them on the followingpage.b.  Static IP - xDSL - If your broadband access isthrough an xDSL modem and your ISP assignedyou a static IP Address, you should choose this type.• Please enter the necessary information such asthe IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gatewayand DNS server that your ISP provided in thefollowing page.c.  Dynamic IP - If your broadband access is throughan xDSL modem and your ISP did not assign you astatic IP Address, you should choose this type.• Please enter the necessary information such asusername and password your ISP provided in thefollowing page. If your ISP gave you a servicename, you should enter it in the following page.d . Dynamic IP (European countries) - If yourbroadband access is through an xDSL modem andyour ISP did not assign you a static IP Address,you should choose this type.• If your Internet Service Provider requires the useof PPTP, enter the information. (PPTP is generallymore popular in Europe.)After you have entered your ISP’s configurationsettings, click Next.
18Quick Installation7. You will now see the Wireless ConfigurationSettings.  You can set the SSID, channel, andwireless security for your wireless gateway here.Click Next when you are done.(For more information on SSID, channel, andwireless security, you can move the mouse cursorover the highlighted feature and an explanation willappear.)8. You will now see the Firewall settings. IOGEAR®offers you an easy set-up package to configure aFirewall. Please note high Firewall protection willmake your network securer, but may causewireless gateway’s performance to be lower. ClickNext when you are done.
19Quick InstallationThis is the summary page showing allconfigurations you’ve set.  Click Nextwhen you are done.9. 10. You can click the test button to see whetheryour Internet connection is functioning.  Pleasemake sure your WAN port has been connected(to a xDSL, Cable modem, or Ethernet).  ClickFinish when you are done. When you havefinished the configuration, you will be brought tothe main window.
2.  You will now be asked for User Name andPassword.  Unless you have changed them, theyshould be default as admin (user name); admin(Password).After going through all the steps in Typical Configura-tion, your wireless router is ready to connect to yourISP and allow internal clients to access to the Internet.If you want to customize your wireless router forspecific purposes, you may perform the configurationin this section.Quick Installation20Advanced Setup1. 22Configuration UtilityIt includes all the basic configuration tools, such as options to control management access,upgrading system firmware and restart system.The router must have an IP address for the local network. You can also enable DHCP service fordynamic IP address allocation to your clients, or configure filtering functions based on specificclients or protocols.In this section, you can configure all wireless related settings for your wireless access point.In Internet settings, you can configure the way your router connects to you ISP.Your Wireless-G Broadband Router features powerful and flexible Firewall protection to keep yournetwork secure.  You can configure the strength of Firewall protection to a high or low level. If youare an advanced user, you can configure Firewall policies to meet on your needs.Network Address Translation allows multiple users at your local site to access the internet over asingle user account. It can also prevent hacker attacks by mapping local addresses to publicaddresses for key services such as Web or FTP.In this section, you can check all system status, network statistics and Event Log.SystemLANWirelessInternetFirewallNATSummary

24Time ZoneConfiguration UtilityFor system management purposes, a correctlyconfigured time zone setting will let you have accuratetime stamps on the system log. If you’re in an area thatis within the daylight savings time period, please alsocheck the option.RestartIn some special cases, you may restart yourWireless-G Broadband Router manually withoutunplugging the power cable. Please note thatrestarting the Wireless-G Broadband Router youwill not lose your current configuration. ClickRestart button to restart the router.
This is where you can change your administrationpassword for the Wireless-G Broadband Router. Forbetter security, you should give a new passwordbecause password setting is disabled by default.Don’t forget to Click Apply button to make yourconfiguration take effect.Password SettingFactory Default25Configuration UtilityClick the Restore button to set your configurationback to factory settings.
Remote ManagementThis setting allows you to manage your Wireless-GBroadband Router through a WAN connection(Internet). Click the button to enable or disable thisfunction. If you enable this function you can use thespecified port on your PC to remotely control therouter. The default port is 8080.26Configuration Utility
• Upgrade Steps:To update the firmware by web page, click theBrowse button first to select the file that had beensaved in your laptop or PC. Then click the Upgradebutton to update the firmware. Please do not poweroff the router while upgrading and there will be asequence of screen descriptions to inform you thestatus of the upgrade process. If the upgradeprocess is successful, the utility will go back tohomepage.Firmware UpdateFrom time to time, a new and updated firmware willbe released, which has either feature improvementsor bug fixes. Once you download the new firmwarepatch, you can update the firmware of your Wireless-G Broadband Router from here.27Configuration Utility

IP SettingYou can setup IP address information for the LANports of your wireless router.29Configuration UtilityYour wireless router can act as a DHCP server, andassign IP addresses to your clients automatically. Thisfunction is enabled by default. The assigned IPaddressed will be within the range of IP pool that youspecify. It is a good security practice to set just enoughrange of IP pool for the devices you want to connect tothis wireless network. This can block other unintendeddevices to enter your network.• IP Pool Starting Address: Enter a value for theDHCP server to start with when issuing IPaddresses. The default value is 192.168.62.12.• IP Pool Ending Address: The maximum number ofPCs that you want the DHCP server to assign IPaddresses to. This number cannot be greater than253.DHCP Server
• Lease Time: Setting Lease Time for shorter period,such as one day or several hours, can free up IPaddresses frequently. However, you mayexperience brief network performance drag down orstall when DHCP reassigning IP addresses toclients. It also causes a computer’s IP addresschanged over time. If you will use some advancedrouter features, such as DMZ or client IP filters, youmay select longer time to avoid frequent re-set, oryou can use Static Host setting described below.30Configuration Utility
31Configuration UtilityDHCP IP MAC MappingThis setting will permanently associate the MACaddress of a LAN client to an IP address. The clientis assigned the same IP address every time.Changes to a currently assigned LAN client IP willtake effect only after expiration of current lease. Tocreate a new association, enter the information onthe field and click Add button. To delete anassociation, press Delete button on the list.The DHCP client list shows clients assigned by theDHCP server. Click Refresh button to refresh the list.DHCP Client
Configuration Utility32MAC FilterYou can control which PCs can connect to theInternet. If you enable this feature, only computerswith a MAC address located in MAC List can connectto the Internet.To add a MAC address, enter the MAC address in theMAC address field, specify Allow or Deny and clickAdd button. Click Delete button will delete a MACAddress.You can control which PCs can connect to theInternet. If you enable this feature, only computerswith an IP address located in IP List can connect tothe Internet. To add an IP address, click the radiobutton of Allow, type the IP address and click Add.The allowed IP address will be added. To delete an IPaddress, click Delete button on the list.IP Filter
