In power-on state, press and hold the button for more than two
seconds to enter into pairing mode. The LED alternates blinking
red and white.
Multi-function

• When the phone rings, quickly press the multi-function (
button to answer the phone call.
• To end a call, press the multi-function (
) button twice.
Note: For Android users: make sure that the “Phone Audio” function is active in the
Bluetooth settings. For more information see “Pairing your speaker with a Bluetooth
device” on page 7.

Function
Plug an external audio device into this jack. The default source for
this speaker is Bluetooth. If a cable is inserted into this AUX IN jack,
the source is automatically switched to AUX IN. Unplug the cable
and the source automatically switches back to Bluetooth.
Volume Down
• Slide the switch to the right
to power on the speaker –
LED ON (red/white LED blinking to enter auto pairing mode).
• Slide the switch to the left
to turn the speaker off – LED
OFF.
When power is on, the unit automatically connects to the last
paired Bluetooth device within six seconds. If the last paired
Bluetooth device is not in range, the unit automatically searches
for another device to pair to.
Plug the USB cable into this port.
Power
• LED is white when the speaker is turned on. LED is off when
the speaker is turned off.
Charging
• When the speaker is off, the LED is red while charging. After
charging is complete, the LED turns off.
• When the speaker is on, the LED is solid red while charging.
After charging is complete, the red LED turns off and the white
LED turns on.
Other
• No Bluetooth connection, the white LED flashes slowly.
• Bluetooth is in pairing mode, the white and red LEDs alternate
blinking.
• Successful Bluetooth connection, solid white LED.
• The white LED blinks quickly when increasing/decreasing the
volume. When the minimum/maximum volume is reached,
the LED is solid white.
• The LED quickly blinks red when the battery is low. The
speaker remains on for approximately 10 more minutes.

Setting up your speaker
Charging your speaker
When your speaker’s battery is low, the red LED blinks.
To charge your speaker:
• Connect the charging cable to your Bluetooth speaker and to an
available USB port on your computer or a USB charging station.

Using your speaker
Turning your speaker on and off
To turn your speaker on and off:

Pairing your speaker with a Bluetooth device
Note: Bluetooth range is 33 feet (10 meters).
To pair your speaker with a Bluetooth device:
1 Press and hold the multi-function button (
) on your Bluetooth speaker
until the white and red LED indicators blink.
2 Enter pairing mode on your Bluetooth device, then select “Modal
MD-SPBT01” from the list to pair.
Note: For more information on entering pairing mode, see the instructions that came
with your Bluetooth device.

3 To unpair, turn off Bluetooth on your Bluetooth device.
To pair your speaker with an Android Bluetooth device:
1 Open Settings, then open Wireless and Network.
2 Open Bluetooth Settings and turn on Bluetooth.
3 Press and hold the multi-function button ( ) on your Bluetooth speaker
until the white and red LED indicators blink.
4 Search for devices and select Modal device or MD-SPBT01 from the list
to pair and connect with.
5 Once paired and connected with the MD-SPBT01, touch and hold the
paired device name (MD-SPBT01) until the sub-menu screen appears.
Select Options.
6 When the Options menu opens, select Phone Audio. Make sure that the
Media Audio option is also selected. Audio from your phone will now be
routed through your Bluetooth speaker.
7 To unpair, turn off Bluetooth on your Android Bluetooth device.
Connecting other devices
To listen to audio from a non-Bluetooth device:
• Connect a 3.5 mm audio cable (not included) from your speaker to your
audio device.
Controlling volume and playback
To control volume and playback:
1 Use the controls on your audio device to play, pause, and select tracks.
2 Press Volume + or Volume – to raise or lower the volume (make sure
that the volume level on your Bluetooth device is at least 50%).
3 Turn your Bluetooth speaker face down to mute the sound.

Using the speakerphone
To use the speakerphone when your Bluetooth speaker is paired to
your phone:
Press the multi-function button ( ) on your Bluetooth speaker once.
Press Volume + or Volume – to raise or lower the speakerphone volume.
Turn your speaker face down to end the call.
To end a call, press the multi-function button ( ) on your Bluetooth
speaker twice or a volume button (+ or –) twice.
Storing your cables
To store your cables:
• Insert the end of the charging cable into the USB storage slot, then
wrap the charging cable around the base of the speaker.

One-Year Limited Warranty
Modal Products (“Modal”) warrants to you, the original purchaser of this new MD-SPBT01
(“Product”), that the Product shall be free of defects in the original manufacture of the material
or workmanship for one (1) year from the purchase of the Product (“Warranty Period”). This
Product must be purchased from an authorized dealer of Modal brand products and packaged
with this warranty statement. This warranty does not cover refurbished Product. If you notify
Modal during the Warranty Period of a defect covered by this warranty that requires service,
terms of this warranty apply.
How long does the coverage last?
The Warranty Period lasts for one year (365 days), beginning on the date you purchased the
Product. The purchase date is printed on the receipt you received with the product.
What does this warranty cover?
During the Warranty Period, if the original manufacture of the material or workmanship of the
Product is determined to be defective by an authorized Modal repair center or store personnel,
Modal will (at its sole option): (1) repair the Product with new or rebuilt parts; or (2) replace the
Product at no charge with new or rebuilt comparable products or parts. Products and parts
replaced under this warranty become the property of Modal and are not returned to you. If
service of Products and parts are required after the Warranty Period expires, you must pay all
labor and parts charges. This warranty lasts as long as you own your Modal Product during the
Warranty Period. Warranty coverage terminates if you sell or otherwise transfer the Product.
How to obtain warranty service?
If you purchased the Product at a retail store location, take your original receipt and the Product
to the store you purchased it from. Make sure that you place the Product in its original
packaging or packaging that provides the same amount of protection as the original
packaging. If you purchased the Product from an online web site, mail your original receipt and
the Product to the address listed on the web site. Make sure that you put the Product in its
original packaging or packaging that provides the same amount of protection as the original
packaging.
Where is the warranty valid?
This warranty is valid only to the original purchaser of the Product in the United States, Canada,
and Mexico.
What does the warranty not cover?
This warranty does not cover:
• Customer instruction
• Installation
• Set up adjustments
• Cosmetic damage
• Damage due to acts of God, such as lightning strikes
• Accident

This warranty also does not cover:
• Damage due to incorrect operation or maintenance
• Connection to an incorrect voltage supply
• Attempted repair by anyone other than a facility authorized by Modal to service the
Product
• Products sold as is or with all faults
• Consumables, such as fuses or batteries
• Products where the factory applied serial number has been altered or removed
REPAIR REPLACEMENT AS PROVIDED UNDER THIS WARRANTY IS YOUR EXCLUSIVE REMEDY.
MODAL SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES FOR THE
BREACH OF ANY EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTY ON THIS PRODUCT, INCLUDING, BUT NOT
LIMITED TO, LOST DATA, LOSS OF USE OF YOUR PRODUCT, LOST BUSINESS OR LOST PROFITS.
MODAL PRODUCTS MAKES NO OTHER EXPRESS WARRANTIES WITH RESPECT TO THE PRODUCT,
ALL EXPRESS AND IMPLIED WARRANTIES FOR THE PRODUCT, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO,
ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF AND CONDITIONS OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A
