To reduce the risk of fire or injury, always do thefollowing when replacing, discarding or charging batteries. When handling the batteries,be careful not to short the battery with conducting materials such as rings, bracelets,and keys. The battery or conducting material may overheat and cause burns.Use only the following type and size of battery pack:FOR HANDSET UNIT :a. GP40AAK3BMX 3.6V 400mAHr, GPI International Ltd orb. 12INSTALLATION (CONT.) SETUPHandset Battery Charging:The battery pack in the handset must be fully charged for about 10-14 hours beforeusing the telephone. The display on the base will show “CHARGING” when thehandset is in the cradle.NOTE:a. When the battery gets low, the display will show “BATTERY LOW”, the Battery iconwill blink and the unit will beep every 15 seconds.b. If the battery becomes low while you are on a call, you will be disconnected afterabout 3 minutes. Terminate the call quickly or the unit will not operate and thedisplay will show “PUT HANDSET ON MAIN BASE”. Put the handset to the Basecharging cradle to recharge the battery.c. The battery will hold its charge for several days out of the cradle, depending on use. To Replace Batteries:1. Remove battery cover.2. Remove old battery.3. Plug the cord of the battery pack into the handset and placethe battery in the case.4. Slide battery cover until it clicks in place. Charge 10-14 hoursbefore first use.To maximize your battery’s life, we recommend that you periodically fully discharge thebattery, and then recharge it. To do this, unplug your phone line cord from the wallphone jack. Press the TALK button, and allow the handset to remain on for 10 to 12hours. Reconnect the phone cord to the wall phone jack. Return the handset to thebase and allow it to fully charge for 12 hours. If this process is completed monthly, itwill reduce the memory buildup that occurs from frequent partial charging.13Both Handset and Base units have Menu setup to set the unit to your preference.Handset Menu setup:Press the MENU/CONFIRM button to go into the menu. If you want to exit at any step,press the FLASH/EXIT button.To Set LCD contrast level:1. Press the MENU/CONFIRM button to go into the menu.The display shows “SET LCD CONTRAST”.2. TELEPHONE OPERATION40 Channel AutoScanOperationYour cordless telephone has 40operating channels. If you hear noise orother interference during yourconversation, you can select a clearerchannel by pressing the FORMAT/CHANNEL button on the handset toswitch to another spare channel. Yourcall will not be interrupted.NOTE:You must be in usable range to changechannels. If you press the FORMAT/CHANNEL button when you are close tobeing out of range, you may lose the call.If this occurs, place the handset backinto the base for a few seconds to resetand then make the call again.Receiver Volume ControlYour telephone allows you to adjust thehandset volume to a more comfortablelistening level. Press the VOLUME/SCROLL  ▲  or  ▼  on the side of thehandset to adjust the level.Making a Call1. Lift the handset and press the TALKbutton to be connected to the phone line.The handset display will show “TALK” andthe talk timer will start. The base displaywill show “LINE IN USE”. 2. After hearing a dial tone, dial thedesired number. Or you may predial the number (withoutpressing the TALK button), then pressthe TALK button.3. If you misdial, simply press the TALKbutton, wait for a couple of seconds, andpress the TALK button again for a newdial tone.4. After your conversation iscompleted, press the TALK button onceto disconnect the line, or return thehandset to the base.Receiving a CallWhen the phone rings:1. IF THE HANDSET IS OUT OF THECRADLE, press the TALK button. 2. IF THE AUTO-TALK IS SET TO OFFAND THE HANDSET IS IN THE CRADLE,lift the handset and press the TALKbutton. 3. IF THE AUTO-TALK IS SET TO ONAND THE HANDSET IS IN THE CRADLE,lift the handset. DO NOT press the TALKbutton, as you will be connectedautomatically.17SETUP (CONT.)To Set Time:If you have subscribed the Caller ID service, you don’t need to set time because it willupdate automatically.If you don’t have or terminated the Caller ID service, you can set time manually.1. The code allows your baseand handset to recognize each other so that other cordless phones will not make callson your line. If the AC adaptor is disconnected or a loss of power occurs while thehandset is away from the base unit, the security code will be lost and the phone will beinoperable. If this occurs, reconnect the AC adaptor and return the handset to the baseunit so that the security code is reset. When the handset is not in the base, only ahandset having the identical security code and operating on the same channel canaccess the base and use your phone line.Digital security coding will also eliminate the “false” ringing associated with cordlesstelephones not equipped with this feature.16

Press the PAGE/INTCM button onthe base. This will put the call on hold.2. A series of rings will sound from thehandset, the handset display will show“PAGING” and “PRESS TALK”, alertingthe handset user that you want to speakwith him.3. To speak with you, the handset usershould press the TALK button. Thehandset display will show “INTERCOM”and “LINE ON HOLD”.4. Press the TALK button on thehandset again to complete the transfer.5. If the handset user does not want tospeak with the caller, the base user canpress the SPEAKER button to continuespeaking with the caller.Transferring a call from the handset tothe baseThe call should already be in progressthrough the handset, the base displayshows “LINE IN USE”.1. Press the INTERCOM button on thehandset. This will put the call on hold.2. 2 beeps will sound from the baseand the speaker will turn on immediately,the base display will show “INTERCOM”and “LINE ON HOLD”, alerting the baseuser that you are speaking with him.3. Press the SPEAKER button on thebase to complete the transfer.4. If the base user does not want tospeak with the caller, the handset usercan press the TALK button to continuespeaking with the caller.Using SpeakerphoneTo make or answer a call without usingthe handset, press the SPEAKER buttonon the base. You will be connected to theline.  The base display will show“SPEAKERPHONE” and the timer willstart. The handset  display will show“BASE IN USE”. To disconnect, pressSPEAKER button again.Speaker volume controlYour telephone allows you to adjust thebase speakerphone to a morecomfortable listening level. Press theVOLUME ▲ or ▼button on the side ofthe base to the preferred setting.Page/IntercomYou can send a page signal from thebase to the handset or vice versa.Press the PAGE/INTCM button on thebase, the handset will beep for 60seconds. The base display will show“INTERCOM” and the handset displaywill show “PRESS TALK”. CALLER ID OPERATION (CONT.)Reviewing All Call Records1. After you have reviewed all of the newcalls, continue press the VOLUME/SCROLL ▲or ▼button, the display willshow the calls stored in memory.2. After the last call record is reviewed,the display will show “END OF LIST”.Caller ID RedialYour telephone allows you to redial aphone number stored in the Caller IDmemory.1. Press the VOLUME/ SCROLL ▲or ▼button to select the Caller ID number thatyou want to dial.2. Press the TALK button will activatethe handset to dial the desired number.3. You may dial the last incomingnumber from the base without using thehandset. Press the FLASH/REVIEWbutton on the base, then press theSPEAKER button. The speakerphone willturn on and dial the last incomingnumber.With current telecom system, there are 4redial options:(1) 7 digits without a 1 prefix(2) 7 digits with a 1 prefix(3) 10 digits without a 1 prefix, and(4) 10 digits with a 1 prefix.If you want to add a 1 prefix, pressFORMAT/CHANNEL in the handset orMENU/FORMAT in the base after youhave selected the Caller ID number fromthe list.NOTE:The 1 prefix can only add in the 7 digitand 10 digit Caller ID number.To Store a Caller ID Number toMemory:1. If the unit receives more than50 calls, the oldest Caller ID informationwill be erased.NOTE:If you answer your incoming call beforethe second ring, the unit will not displaythe call information.Receiving Call Waiting Caller IDWhen you are on a phone call and thereis an incoming call, your telephone willdisplay incoming call waiting Caller IDinformation.1. You will hear a beep and thetelephone will be muted momentarilywhile the display shows the Caller IDinformation of the second caller.2. Press FLASH/EXIT to access the callwaiting call (the second caller).3. When you access the call waitingcall, the Caller ID information willdisappear and a new call timer will bedisplayed.4. After your second call is end, pressFLASH/EXIT to talk to the first caller.IMPORTANT:You must subscribe to Call Waiting andCall Waiting Caller ID service from yourlocal telephone company in order toreceive Call Waiting Caller IDinformation.Reviewing New Call Records1. In standby mode, when the displayshows NEW=XX TOTAL=XX, press theVOLUME/SCROLL ▲button will displaythe information for the last new callreceived. The “NEW” icon will light if thecall you are reviewing is a new call.2. Continue pressing the VOLUME/SCROLL ▲button to review all new callrecords in the order the calls werereceived. If the received call informationis the same as any of the new calls, theunit will display the “RPT” icon toindicate a repeat call.When a name received exceeds 12characters, the first 12 characters will beshown first. Press the “#>” button toview the remaining characters.3. After the final call has beendisplayed, press the VOLUME/ SCROLL▲button again. Press the MENU/CONFIRM button,all CID numbers will be erased and thedisplay will show “ALL CID DELETED”.NOTE:All the CID numbers will be deletedincluding the new calls that have notbeen reviewed.TROUBLESHOOTINGIf your telephone is not performing to your expectations, please try these simple steps :Problem“Charging” won’t show onwhen handset is placed inbase unit.No dial tone.Handset doesn’t ring.Suggestion• Make sure the AC Adapter is plugged intothe base unit and wall outlet.• Make sure the wall outlet is functioning.• Make sure the handset is properly seated inthe base unit.• Make sure the rechargeable battery pack isproperly placed in the handset.• Make sure that the charging contacts onthe handset and on the base unit are clean.• Charge the handset for 10 hours beforeinitial use.• Place the handset back into cradle for 5seconds.• Make sure the handset is fully charged. The base display should show “CHARGING”when the handset is in the cradle.• Make sure the Ringer setting is set to the“On”.• Rechargeable battery pack may be weak ornot fully charged. Charge the battery packfor 4-5 hours.• Make sure the base antenna is in theupright position.• The handset may be too far away from thebase unit.• Make sure the AC adaptor is plugged intothe base unit and wall outlet.• Make sure the wall outlet is functioning.• There may be too many telephonesinstalled on the same line. Contact yourlocal telephone company to determine themaximum number of extensions for yourcalling area.• Place the handset back into cradle for 5seconds.
