Introducing the EC-100 Energy Controller
The EC-100 Energy Controller (EC-100) wirelessly connects to your home’s smart meter
and gathers information about how much electricity you are using and how much that
electricity use is costing you. With this information, you will be able to make smart choices
about how and when to conserve electricity and save money.
The EC-100 comes with a colorful touch screen on which you can view current and past
data about your home’s energy use in a clean, graphical format. Beyond that, the EC-100
provides an easy way to program and control your WT-100 Wireless Thermostat (provided
separately), check your weather forecast, review your power bills, view messages about
utility-driven energy savings events, and more!

Tip: The touch screen is pressure sensitive. The best results are obtained by
applying pressure with the tip of the inger or by using the your ingernail.

Key Features:
•
•
•
•
•
Empowers You With Information: The EC-100 wirelessly communicates with your
home’s smart meter to gather information about your electricity use. The display lets
you see your energy use over time with enough storage for up to ive (5) years of
data, and it shows you breakdowns of your electricity use by major categories such
as heating, cooling, refrigerator, and pool.
Intuitive Color Touch Screen: The Energy Controller’s 4.7” capacitive touch screen
puts your home’s energy management at your ingertips by allowing you to interact
with the data from your smart meter.
Better Communication With Your Utility: Using smart meters, your utility can send
you important messages regarding incentive programs, conservation requests during
periods of high demand and changes in pricing. Working together, utilities and their
customers can improve energy eficiency and lower costs.
Broadband-Connected (optional): The EC-100 connects to your home’s WiFi
network to provide additional information including utility bills, messages from your
utility company and your local weather forecast. By enabling the home area networking wireless network functionality, your utility can enable you to get better control over
your electrical usage.
Easy Thermostat Programming and Control: The EC-100 makes it easy to
program your WT-100 Wireless Thermostat (provided separately), turn your heat
or air conditioner on or off, or change the temperature in your home. Also, you can
easily set your wireless thermostat into a special energy-saving ‘Vacation’ mode when
you leave town. All of this control allows you to reduce your electricity consumption.
Ultimately, the EC-100 can become a gateway for controlling all your appliances to
reduce the money spent on electricity.

meter and its connected advanced metering
infrastructure (AMI) network to better communicate
with you.
These messages can be helpful notices to encourage
energy eficiency that include tips on lowering bills or
simple “spare the air” reminders. The utility also can
alert you with more critical information as demands on
the electrical infrastructure change.
4 To return to your regularly-scheduled Thermostat Program Event before the end of the
two (2)-hour hold, tap Cancel. See “Programming Your WT-100 Wireless Thermostat” if
you want this to be a permanent change.

Regulatory/Safety Information
Energy Events
Energy Events allow you and your utility to manage your electricity use by making energy-eficient
changes to your heating and cooling system during
peak times of electricity cost and/or use. Energy
Events are initiated based on event rules, and cause
a red “Energy Event” notice to appear on the Home
Screen. It is possible to override all non-mandatory
Energy Events by tapping the green check next to the
event you wish to override.
Some conigurations of the EC-100 will enable you to create your own Energy Event rules
to help you manage your electricity use based on your desired limit for price of electricity
(where applicable), daily cost or electricity use:
2 Tap Create New Rule and select from one of
the available rule types: High Price (where ap- 1
plicable), My Cost, or My Electricity Use. Once
you have selected a rule type, you will set your
desired limit which initiates the
energy event.
2 At the bottom of the thermostat screen, set
the Mode (Heat, Cool, or Off). Tip: In the
Off mode neither the furnace nor the air
conditioner will turn on regardless of the
temperature of your home.
4 Increase the temperature offset for Heat mode
and/or Cool mode by tapping the up arrows.
Generally, the more you offset the temperature, the less electricity you will use, and the
more money you will save.
Note: You may deine only one of each type of rule.
Rules may be modiied, or deleted and then recreated
with new limits for price, cost or use. In case rules initiate overlapping energy events, only one rule will be
applied, based on the following order of priority:
1. Demand Response (utility-deined)
2. High Price (user-deined, where applicable)
3. My Cost (user-deined)
4. My Electricity Use (user-deined).
Utility Bills
(if supported by your utility)
Your EC-100 lets you view your utility bills. Note: This billing information may not be
available from your utility company.
From the Main Menu, tap Utility Bills.
View bill data over a speciic time period, or tap
Compare Bills to compare detailed use and billing.
The messages can include Demand Response event notiications, potential service status
alerts, critical peak demand times or changes in pricing.
Depending on the urgency of the messages, you can view a simple notiication on the
bottom left of the Home Screen (less critical) to pop up messages that take over the entire
screen and require user conirmation (more critical).
Literally, your EC-100 can be used to keep you out of the dark when important changes in
your electrical service are occurring.
3 Set the Fan state (Auto or On).
