Read,understand,andfollowall instructionsonthemachineandinthe

hazard.

Useonlyaccessoriesandattachmentsapprovedforthismachinebythe

machinemanufacturer.Read,understandandfollowallinstructions

SLOPE OPERATION

Slopesareamajorfactorrelatedto lossof controlandtip-overaccidentswhichcan

resultinsevereinjuryordeath.Allslopesrequireextracaution.Ifyoucannotback

uptheslopeorif youfeeluneasyonit, donotmowit.

Foryoursafety,usetheSlopeGuideincludedaspartof thismanualto measure

slopesbeforeoperatingthis machineon aslopedorhilly area.If theslopeisgreater

than15degreesasshownonthe SlopeGuide,donotoperatethis machineonthat

areaorseriousinjurycouldresult.

Do:

Mowupanddownslopes,notacross.Exerciseextremecautionwhen

changingdirectiononslopes.

Watchfor holes,ruts,bumps,rocks,orotherhiddenobjects.Uneventerrain

couldoverturnthemachine.Tallgrasscanhideobstacles.

Useslowspeed.Choosea lowenoughspeedsettingsothat youwill nothave

to stoporshiftwhileontheslope.Tiresmaylosetractionon slopeseven

thoughthebrakesarefunctioningproperly.Alwayskeepmachineingear

whengoingdownslopesto takeadvantageof enginebrakingaction.

Followthemanufacturer'srecommendationsfor wheelweightsor

counterweightsto improvestability.

Useextracarewith grasscatchersorotherattachments.Thesecanchange

thestabilityof themachine.

Keepallmovementontheslopesslowandgradual.Donotmakesudden

changesinspeedordirection.Rapidengagementorbrakingcouldcause

thefrontofthe machineto lift andrapidlyflip overbackwardswhichcould

causeseriousinjury.

Avoidstartingorstoppingona slope.Iftireslosetraction,disengagethe

blade(s)andproceedslowlystraightdowntheslope.

Do Not:

Donotturn onslopesunlessnecessary;then,turnslowlyandgradually

downhill,if possible.

Donotmowneardrop-offs,ditchesorembankments.Themowercould

suddenlyturn overira wheelisovertheedgeof acliff,ditch,or ifanedge

cavesin.

Donottry to stabilizethemachinebyputting yourfoot ontheground.

Donotusea grasscatcheronsteepslopes.

Donotmowon wetgrass.Reducedtractioncouldcausesliding.

Donotattemptto coastdownhill.Over-speedingmaycausethe operatorto

losecontrolofthe machineresultinginseriousinjuryordeath.

Donottow heavypullbehindattachments(e.g.loadeddumpcart,lawn

roller,etc.)onslopesgreaterthan5 degrees.Whengoingdownhill,the

extraweighttendsto pushthetractorandmaycauseyouto loosecontrol

(e.g.tractormayspeedup,brakingandsteeringabilityarereduced,

attachmentmayjack-knifeandcausetractorto overturn).

CHILDREN

Tragicaccidentscanoccuriftheoperatorisnotalertto the presenceofchildren.

Childrenareoftenattractedto themachineandthemowingactivity.Theydonot

understandthedangers.Neverassumethatchildrenwill remainwhereyoulastsaw

them.

Keepchildrenoutof themowingareaandinwatchfulcareof aresponsible

adultotherthantheoperator.

Bealertandturnmachineoff ifachildentersthearea.

Beforeandwhilebacking,lookbehindanddownforsmallchildren.

Nevercarrychildren,evenwith theblade(s)shutoff.Theymayfall offand be

seriouslyinjuredorinterferewith safemachineoperation.

Useextremecarewhenapproachingblindcorners,doorways,shrubs,trees

orotherobjectsthat mayblockyourvisionofa childwho mayrunintothe

machine.

Toavoidback-overaccidents,alwaysdisengagethecuttingblade(s)before

shiftingintoReverse.Ifequipped,the"ReverseCautionMode"(blades

operatewhilemachineridesinreverse)shouldnotbe usedwhenchildrenor

othersarearound.

Keepchildrenawayfromhotorrunningengines.Theycansufferburnsfrom

a hotmuffler.

Removekeywhenmachineis unattendedto preventunauthorized

operation.

TOWING

Towonlywith a machinethathasa hitchdesignedfor towing.Donotattach

towedequipmentexceptat thehitchpoint.

Followthe manufacturersrecommendationforweightlimitsfortowed

equipmentandtowingonslopes.

Neverallowchildrenorothersinorontowedequipment.

Onslopes,the weightof thetowedequipmentmaycauselossof tractionand

lossof control.

Alwaysuseextracautionwhentowingwith amachinecapableof making

tight turns(e.g."zero-turn"ride-onmower).Makewideturnsto avoid

jack-knifing.

Travelslowlyandallowextradistanceto stop.

Donotcoastdownhill.

SERVICE

Safe Handling of Gasoline:

Toavoidpersonalinjuryorproperty damageuseextremecarein handling

gasoline.Gasolineisextremely flammable andthe vaporsareexplosive.

Seriouspersonalinjurycanoccurwhen gasolineisspilled on yourselforyour

clotheswhich canignite. Washyourskinand changeclothesimmediately.

Useonlyanapprovedgasolinecontainer.

Neverfill containersinsideavehicleoronatruckortrailerbedwith aplastic

liner.Alwaysplacecontainersonthegroundawayfromyourvehiclebefore

filling.

Whenpractical,removegas-poweredequipmentfromthetruckor

trailerandrefuelit ontheground.If thisisnotpossible,thenrefuelsuch

equipmentonatrailerwitha portablecontainer,ratherthanfroma gasoline

dispensernozzle.

Keepthenozzlein contactwith therimof thefueltankorcontaineropening

at alltimesuntil fuelingiscomplete.Donotuseanozzlelock-opendevice.

Extinguishall cigarettes,cigars,pipesandothersourcesof ignition.

Neverfuelmachineindoors.

Neverremovegascaporaddfuelwhiletheengineishotor running.Allow

engineto coolat leasttwo minutesbeforerefueling.

Neveroverfill fuel tank.Filltankto nomorethan1/2inchbelowbottomof

filler neckto allowspaceforfuel expansion.

Replacegasolinecapandtightensecurely.

If gasolineisspilled,wipeit offtheengineandequipment.Movemachineto

anotherarea.Wait5minutesbeforestartingtheengine.

Toreducefirehazards,keepmachinefreeof grass,leaves,orotherdebris

build-up.Cleanupoilorfuel spillageandremoveanyfuelsoakeddebris.

Neverstorethemachineorfuelcontainerinsidewherethereisan open

flame,sparkorpilotlight asonawaterheater,spaceheater,furnace,clothes

dryerorothergasappliances.

Allowamachineto coolat leastfiveminutesbeforestoring.

General Service

Neverrunanengineindoorsorinapoorlyventilatedarea.Engineexhaust

containscarbonmonoxide,anodorless,anddeadlygas.

Beforecleaning,repairing,orinspecting,makecertaintheblade(s)andall

movingpartshavestopped.Disconnectthesparkplugwireandground

againsttheengineto preventunintendedstarting.

Periodicallycheckto makesurethe bladescometo completestopwithin

approximately(5)fivesecondsafteroperatingthebladedisengagement

control.If thebladesdonotstopwithin thethistimeframe,yourmachine

shouldbeservicedprofessionallybya Searsorotherqualifiedservicedealer.

Checkbrakeoperationfrequentlyasit issubjectedto wearduringnormal

operation.Adjustandserviceasrequired.

Checktheblade(s)andenginemountingboltsat frequentintervalsfor

propertightness.Also,visuallyinspectblade(s)for damage(e.g.,excessive

wear,bent,cracked).Replacetheblade(s)with theoriginalequipment

manufacturer's(O.E.M.)blade(s)only,listedinthismanual.Useof parts

whichdonotmeettheoriginalequipmentspecificationsmayleadto

improperperformanceandcompromisesafety!

Mowerbladesaresharp.Wrapthebladeorweargloves,anduseextra

cautionwhenservicingthem.

Keepall nuts,bolts,andscrewstight to besuretheequipmentisinsafe

workingcondition.

Nevertamperwith thesafetyinterlocksystemorothersafetydevices.Check

their properoperationregularly.

Afterstrikingaforeignobject,stoptheengine,disconnectthesparkplug

wire(s)andgroundagainsttheengine.Thoroughlyinspectthemachinefor

anydamage.Repairthedamagebeforestartingandoperating.

Neverattemptto makeadjustmentsorrepairsto the machinewhilethe

engineis running.

Grasscatchercomponentsandthedischargecoveraresubjectto wear

anddamagewhichcouldexposemovingpartsorallowobjectsto be

thrown.Forsafetyprotection,frequentlycheckcomponentsandreplace

immediatelywith originalequipmentmanufacturer's(O.E.M.)partsonly,

listedinthis manual.Useof partswhichdonotmeettheoriginalequipment

specificationsmayleadto improperperformanceandcompromisesafety!

Donotchangetheenginegovernorsettingsorover-speedtheengine.The

governorcontrolsthemaximumsafeoperatingspeedof theengine.

Maintainorreplacesafetyandinstructionlabels,asnecessary.

Observeproperdisposallawsandregulationsforgas,oil,etc.to protectthe

environment.

AccordingtotheConsumerProductsSafetyCommission(CPSC)andtheU.S.

with thegovernorsetting canleadto a runawayengineandcauseitto

governor.

Engineswhich arecertified to complywith Californiaandfederal EPA

emissionregulationsfor SORE(SmallOff RoadEquipment)arecertified

tooperateon regularunleadedgasoline,andmayincludethefollowing

emissioncontrolsystems:EngineModification (EM),OxidizingCatalyst(0C),

SecondaryAir injection(SAI)andThreeWayCatalyst(TWC)ifsoequipped.

SPARK ARRESTOR

Thismachineisequippedwith aninternalcombustionengineand should

not beusedonor nearany unimprovedforest-covered,brushcoveredor

grass-coveredland unlesstheengine'sexhaustsystemisequippedwith a

sparkarrestor meetingapplicable localorstate laws (if any).

If a sparkarrestor isused,it shouldbemaintainedineffective working order

bythe operator.In the Stateof Californiathe aboveisrequiredbylaw (Section

4442of the CaliforniaPublicResourcesCode).Other statesmayhavesimilar

laws.Federallawsapplyon federal lands.

DANGER-- ROTATING BLADES

Never carry passengers. Never carry children, even with the blades off.

DANGER-- ROTATING BLADES

Always look down and behind before and while backing to avoid a back-over accident.

WARNING-- ROTATING BLADES

Do not put hands or feet near rotating parts or under the cutting deck. Contact with the blade(s)

can amputate hands and feet.

WARNING--THROWN OBJECTS

This machine may pick up and throw and objects which can cause serious personal injury.

BYSTANDERS

Keep bystanders, helpers, children and pets at least 75 feet from the machine while it is in

Do not operate this machine on a slope greater than 15 degrees.

Engine parts, especially the muffler, become extremely hot during operation. Allow engine and

muffler to cool before touching.

To checkthe slope,proceedas follows:

1. Removethis pageandfold alongthe dashedline.

2. Locatea verticalobject onor behindthe slope (e.g.a pole, building,fence, tree,etc.)

3. Align eitherside of the slope gaugewith the object(SeeFigure1 and Figure2 ).

4. Adjust gaugeupor down until the left cornertouchesthe slope (SeeFigure1and Figure2).

If there is agap belowthe gauge,the slope is too steepfor safeoperation(SeeFigure2 above).

Slopes are a major factor related to tip-over and roll-over accidents which can result in severe injury or death. Do not operate machine

on slopes in excess of 15 degrees. All slopes require extra caution. If you cannot back up the slope or if you feel uneasy on it, do not

mow it. Always mow up and down the face of slopes, never mow across the face of slopes.

Attaching the Battery Cables

Batteryposts,terminals,andrelatedaccessoriescontainleadand

leadcompounds,chemicalsknownto the Stateof Californiato

causecancerandreproductiveharm.Washhandsafterhandling.

Whenattaching battery cables,alwaysconnectthe POSITIVE(Red)wire to its

terminal first, followed bythe NEGATIVE(Black)wire.

Forshippingreasons,bothbatterycablesonyourequipmenthavebeenleft

disconnectedfrom theterminalsat thefactory.Toconnectthe batterycables,

proceedasfollows:

1. Removetheplasticcover,ifpresent,fromthepositivebatteryterminaland

I. Withthewheelsof the tractorpointingstraightforward,placethesteering

wheeloverthesteeringshaft.

stop,movetheshift leverintothe Forwardposition.Graduallysteponthedrive

pedalandthetractorwill beginto moveforward.TomoveinReverse,follow the

Thegroundspeediscontrolledwith thedrivepedal.Thefurtherforwardthat the

pedalis pivoted,thefasterthetractorwill travel.Thepedalwill returnto itsoriginal

engineishotor running. Extinguishcigarettes,cigars,pipes,andother

sourcesof gnt on.

NOTE:Purchasegasolineinsmallquantities.Donotusegasolineleft overfromthe

previousseason,to minimizegumdepositsinthefuelsystem.

Thisengineiscertifiedto operateon unleadedgasoline.Forbestresults,fill

thefueltankwith onlyclean,fresh,unleadedgasolinewith apumpsticker

octaneratingof 87orhigher.

Gasohol(upto 10%ethyl alcohol,90%unleadedgasolinebyvolume)isan

approvedfuel.Othergasoline/alcoholblends,suchasE85,arenotapproved.

MethylTertiaryButylEther(MTBE)andunleadedgasolineblends(upto a

Safety Interlock System

Thesafetyinterlocksystemisdesignedfor safeoperationof thetractor.Ifthis

systemshouldevermalfunction,do notoperatethetractor,Immediatelycontact

1-800-659-5917to havethesystemserviced.

Thesafetyinterlocksystempreventstheenginefromstartingunless

theparkingbrakeisengagedandthePTO(BladeEngage)leverisinthe

disengaged(OFF)position.

Thesafetyinterlocksystemwill automaticallyshutoffthe engineif the

operatorleavestheseatbeforeengagingtheparkingbrake.

Thesafetyinterlocksystemwill automaticallyshutoffthe engineif the

operatorleavesthetractor'sseatwiththe PTO(BladeEngage)leverengaged,

Withthe ignitionkeyintheNORMALMOWINGposition,theelectricPTO

Donotoperatethetractorif theinterlocksystemismalfunctioning.Thissystem

wasdesignedfor yoursafetyandprotection.

Engagingthe ParkingBrake

Toengagethe parking brake:

I. Fullydepressthe brakepedalandholdit downwith yourfoot.

2. Movethespeedcontrolleverallthewaydownandintotheparkingbrake

position.

3. Releasethebrakepedalto allowtheparkingbraketo engage.

Toreleasethe parking brake:

I. Depressthe brakepedalandmovethespeedcontrolleveroutof theparking

brakepositionandintoadesiredspeed.

Setting the Cutting Height

1. Selecttheheightpositionof thecuttingdeckbyplacingthedecklift leverin

anyof thedifferentcuttingheightnotchesontheright sideof thefender.

2. Adjustthedeckwheelssothat theyarebetween1A-inchandY2-inchabove

thegroundwhenthetractorisonasmooth,flat surfacesuchasadriveway.

Toadjust DeckWheels:

I. Removetheflangelocknutontheshoulderboltsecuringthedeckwheel.

2. Positionthewheelto thedesiredheightaslistedabove.SeeFigure9.

Starting the Engine

Donot operatethe tractor if the interlocksystemis malfunctioning. This

systemwasdesignedfor your safetyand protection.

I. Insertthetractorkeyintotheignitionswitch.

2. PlacethePTO(BladeEngage)leverinthedisengaged(OFF)position.

3. Engagethetractor'sparkingbrake.

4. Activatethechokecontrolbymovlngthethrottle/chokeleverallthewayupinto

thechokeposition.

5. Turntheignitionkeyclockwiseto theSTARTposition.Aftertheenginestarts,

releasethe key.It will returnto theON(orNormalMowing)position.

DoNOTholdthe key in the STARTposition for longer than ten seconds

at a time. Doing so maycause damage to your engine's electric

starter.

6. Aftertheenginestarts,deactivatethechokecontrolandplacethethrottle

controlinthe FASTposition.

NOTE:DoNOTleavethechokecontrolonwhileoperatingthetractor.Doingsowill

resultina"rich"fuel mixtureandcausetheengineto run poorly.

Stopping the Engine

If you strike a foreign object, stop the engine, disconnect the spark

plug wire(s) and ground against the engine. Thoroughly inspect the

machine for any damage. Repairthe damage before restarting and

operating

1. Ifthebladesareengaged,placethePTO(BladeEngage)leverin the

disengaged(OFF)position.

2. Turntheignitionkeycounterclockwiseto theSTOPposition.

3. Removethekeyfromtheignitionswitchto preventunintendedstarting.

DrivingTheTractor

Avoidsuddenstarts,excessivespeedand suddenstops.

Donot leavethe seatofthe tractor without first placingthe PTO(Blade

Engage)leverin the disengaged(OFF)position, depressingthe brakepedal

andengagingthe parkingbrake.If leavingthe tractor unattended,also

turn the ignitionkeyoff and removethe key.

Alwayslookdownand behindbeforeandwhilebackingup to avoida back-

overaccident.

1. Depressthebrakepedalto releasetheparkingbrakeandthen letthepedal

up.

2. Movethethrottle leverintothe FAST(rabbit)position.

3. Placetheshift leverineithertheFORWARDorREVERSEposition.

IMPOR@N_DoNOTusetheshift levertochangethe directionof travelwhenthe

tractorisinmotion.Alwaysusethebrakepedalto bringthetractorto acomplete

stopbeforeshifting.

4. Graduallybeginto applypressureto the drivepedal.Thefurtherdownthe

pedalispushed,thefasterthetractorwill travelin thedesireddirection

basedonthepositionof theshift lever.

5. Thelawntractoris broughtto astopbyreleasingthedrivepedalandthen

depressingthebrakepedal.

Beforeleavingthe operator'sposition for any reason,disengagethe blades,

placethe shift leverinneutral, engagethe parkingbrake,shut engineoff

andremovethe key.

Whenstopping the tractor for any reasonwhile on a grasssurface,

always:

Placetheshift leverinneutral,

Engagetheparkingbrake,

Shutengineoffandremovethekey.Doingsowill minimizethe possibility

of havingyourlawn"browned"byhotexhaustfromyourtractor'srunning

engine.

ReverseCaution Mode

TheREVERSECAUTIONMODEpositionofthe keyswitchmoduleallowsthetractorto

maneuverinreversewith theblades(PTO)engaged.

NOTE:Mowinginreverseis notrecommended.

Useextremecautionwhileoperating thetractor inthe REVERSECAUTION

MODE.Alwayslook downand behind beforeandwhile backing.Donot

operatethe tractorwhen childrenorothersare around.Stopthe tractor

immediatelyifsomeoneentersthe area.

Exerciseextremecautionwhenchangingdirectiononslopes.

Watchforholes,ruts,bumps,rocks,orotherhiddenobjects.Uneventerrain

couldoverturnthemachine.Tallgrasscanhideobstacles.

Avoidturnswhendrivingonaslope.Ifaturn mustbemade,turndownthe

slope.Turningupaslopegreatlyincreasesthechanceof a rollover.

Avoidstoppingwhendrivingupa slope.If it isnecessaryto stopwhile

drivingupa slope,start upsmoothlyandcarefullyto reducethepossibility

of flippingthetractoroverbackward.

Engagingthe Blades

Engagingthe PTO(BladeEngage)transferspowertothecuttingdeckorother

(separatelyavailable)attachments.Toengagetheblades,proceedasfollows:

I. Movethethrottle/chokecontrolleverto theFAST(rabbit)position.

2. GraspthePTO(BladeEngage)leverandpivotit allthewayforwardintothe

engaged(ON)position.

3. Keepthethrottleleverinthe FAST(rabbit)positionfor themostefficientuse

of thecutting deckorother(separatelyavailable)attachments.

NOTE:Theenginewill automaticallyshutoff if thePTOisengagedwith

theshiftleverin positionfor reversetravelwith theignitionkeyintheON

position.

Mulching

Amulchkitisavailableasanattachment.Mulchingisa processof recirculating

grassclippingsrepeatedlybeneaththecuttingdeck.Theultra-fineclippingsare

thenforcedbackintothe lawnwheretheyactasanaturalfertilizer.

Usingthe DeckLift Lever

Toraisethecuttingdeck,movethedecklift leverto theleft, then placeit inthe

notchbestsuitedfor yourapplication.Referto SettingTheCuttingHeightearlierin

Mowing

Tohelpavoid bladecontactorathrown object injury,keepbystanders,

helpers,childrenandpetsat least75feet from the machinewhile it is in

operation. Stopmachineif anyoneentersthearea.

Thefollowinginformationwill behelpfulwhenusingthecuttingdeckwith your

tractor:

Planyour mowing pattern to avoiddischargeof materialstoward roads,

sidewalks,bystandersandthe like.Also,avoiddischargingmaterial against

awall or obstructionwhich maycausedischargedmaterialto ricochetback

towardthe operator.

Donotmowat highgroundspeed,especiallyira mulchkitorgrasscollector

isinstalled.

Forbestresultsit isrecommendedthatthefirsttwo lapsbecutwith the

dischargethrowntowardsthecenter.Afterthefirst two laps,reversethe

directionto throwthe dischargeto the outsideforthe balanceof cutting.

Thiswill giveabetterappearanceto thelawn.

Donotcutthegrasstooshort.Shortgrassinvitesweedgrowthandyellows

quicklyindryweather.

Mowingshouldalwaysbedonewith theengineatfull throttle.

Underheavierconditionsit maybenecessaryto gobackoverthecutareaa

secondtimeto getacleancut.

DoNOTattemptto mowheavybrushandweedsandextremelytall grass.

Gasolineand its vaporsare extremelyflammable andexplosive.Fireor

Keepgasolineawayfromsparks,openflames,pilotlights,heat,andother

ignitionsources.

Checkfuellines,tank,cap,andfittingsfrequentlyforcracksorleaks.Replace

ifnecessary.

Beforereplacingthefuelfilter,drainthefueltankaspertheinstructions

below.

Donotdrainfuel whentheengineishot.Allowtheengineadequatetime to

cool.Drainfuel intoanapprovedcontaineroutdoors,awayfromopenflame.

Drainanylargevolumeof fuelfromthetankbydisconnectingthefuelline

fromthein-linefuelfilter neartheengine.

Removethefuellinefrom theIn-lineside(sidetowardsthefueltank)of the

fuelfilter.

Replacementpartsmustbethesameandinstalledin thesamepositionas

theoriginalparts.

Iffuel spills,waituntil it evaporatesbeforestartingengine.

Beforereplacingthefuelfilter,drainthefueltank.Otherwise,fuel canleak

outandcauseafireorexplosion.

To Drain the fuel:

1. Locatethefuelfilter,whichisroutedontheleftsideoftheenginebetween

thefueltankandthecarburetor,andmaybeattachedto theenginewithatie

strap.Cutthetiestrap,ifpresent,thenpinchthein-lineclamponthefuelfilter

with apairofpliers,slidetheclampupthefuelline.Pullthefuellinefreefrom

thefilterandplacetheopenendofthe lineintoanapprovedcontainerto drain

thefuel.

To change the fuel filter:

1. Usepliersto squeezethetabson theotherclamp(theout-linesideof the

fuelfilter),thenslidetheclampawayfromthefuelfilter.Twistandpullthe

fuellineoffofthe fuel filter.SeeFigure11.

and3/8-inchlowerthantherearof thedeck.Adjustifnecessaryasfollows:

1. Withthetractorparkedon afirm, levelsurface,placetheleverforlifting the

platformonthe secondto thetopnotch(secondhighestposition)androtate

thebladeascloseaspossibletothedischargechannelthat isparallelto the

tractor.

2. Measurethedistancefromthe frontof the bladetip to thegroundandthe

rearof thebladetip to theground.Thefirst measurementtakenshould

bebetweenlg"and3/8"lessthanthesecondmeasurement.Determine

theapproximatedistancenecessaryforproperadjustmentandproceed,if

3. Locatetheflangelocknutonthe frontsideof thestabilizerbracket.See

Ifthe cuttingdeckappearsto be mowingunevenly,asideto sideadjustmentcanbe

performed.Adjustif necessaryasfollows:

1. With thetractorparkedonafirm, levelsurface,placethedecklift leverin

thesecondfromthetopnotch(secondhighestposition)androtateboth

bladessothattheyareperpendicularwith thetractor.

2. Measurethedistancefromthe outsideofthe left bladetip to theground

andthedistancefrom theoutsideof theright bladetip to the ground.Both

3. Loosen,butdo NOTremove,the hexcapscrewontheleft deckhanger

counterclockwise/down.Thedeckisproperlybalancedwhenbothbladetip

measurementstakenearlierareequal.

5. Retightenthe hexcapscrewonthe left deckhangerbracketwhenproper

adjustmentisachieved.

right fender.

3. Removetheself-tappingscrewCA)thatsecuresthebelt-keeperrodfrom

aroundthetractor'sPTOpulley,thenremovethebeltkeeperrod(B).See

Figure15.

Note:Makeamentalnotewhat holetheotherendof the belt-keeperrodis

insertedin forreinstallationpurposes.

4. Removethebelt(C)fromaroundthetractor'sPTOpulley.SeeFigure15.

Avoidpinching injuries.Neverplaceyour fingerson the idler springor

between the beltand apulley while removingthe belt.

Cutting Blades

Shutthe engineoffand removeignitionkeybefore removingthecutting

Periodicallyinspectthe bladeand/or spindlefor cracksordamage,

especiallyafter you'vestruckaforeign object. Donot operatethe machine

earlierin thissection)thengentlyflip thedeckoverto exposeitsunderside.

2. Placea blockofwoodbetweenthecenterdeckhousingbaffleandthe

cuttingbladeto actasastabilizer.SeeFigure19.

3. Removethehexflangenut that securesthe bladeto thespindleassembly.

4. Toproperlysharpenthecutting blades,removeequalamountsof metal

frombothendsof the bladesalongthecuttingedges,parallelto thetrailing

edge,ata 25°- to 30°angle.Alwaysgrindeachcuttingbladeedgeequallyto

maintainproperbladebalance.SeeFigure20.

If the cutting edgeof the bladehas previouslybeensharpened,or if any

metal separationis present,replacethe bladeswith newones.

A poorlybalancedbladewill causeexcessivevibration, maycausedamageto

thetractorand/or resultinpersonalinjury.

5. Testtheblade'sbalanceusinga bladebalancer.Grindmetalfromthe

heavysideuntil it balancesevenly.

/VOTE:Whenreplacingtheblade,besureto installthe bladewith thesideofthe

blademarked"Bottom" (orwith apartnumberstampedin it) facingtheground

whenthe mowerisintheoperatingposition.

Useatorque wrench to tighten the bladespindlehex flange nut to between

70Ibs-ftand 90Ibs-ft.

Changingthe DeckBelt

Besureto shut theengine off, removeignitionkey,disconnectthe spark

plugwire(s)andgroundagainstthe engineto preventunintendedstarting

[before removng the bet.

Allbeltson your tractor are subjectto wearand shouldbereplacedifany

8. Re-installthedeck,makingsurethebelt remainsroutedaroundthepulleys

9. Pulltherightsideof thebelt,andplacethenarrowVsideof thebelt intothe

PT0pulley.

10. Whileholdingthebelt andpulleytogether,rotatethe pulleyto theleft.

Continueholdingandrotatingthe pulleyandbelt until thebelt isfully rolled

intothePT0pulley.

Topreventgumdepositsfromforminginsidetheengine'scarburetorandcausing

possiblemalfunctionoftheengine,thefuelsystemmustbeeithercompletely

emptied,or thegasolinemustbetreatedwith astabilizerto preventdeterioration.

1. Ifusinga fuelstabilizer:

a. Readtheproductmanufacturer'sinstructionsandrecommendations.

b. Addto clean,freshgasolinethecorrectamountofstabilizerforthe

capacityof thefuel system.

c. Fillthefueltankwith treatedfuelandruntheenginefor 2-3minutesto

getstabilizedfuelintothecarburetor.

2. Ifemptyingthefuelsystem:

a. Donotdrainfuelwhentheengineishot.Allowtheengineadequate

performedat an AuthorizedSears ServiceDealer.Foremissionswarranty

4. Claimsand CoverageExclusions

Warrantyclaimsshall be filed in accordancewiththe provisionsof the

SearsEngineWarrantyPolicy.Warrantycoverageshall beexcludedfor

failuresof WarrantedPartswhichare notoriginal Searspartsor because

of abuse,neglector impropermaintenanceas setforth inthe Sears

EngineWarrantyPolicy.Searsis notliableto coverfailuresof Warranted

Partscausedby theuseof add-on,non-original,or modifiedparts.

5. Maintenance

Any WarrantedPart whichis notscheduledfor replacementas required

maintenanceor whichis scheduledonly for regularinspectionto the effect

of "repairor replaceas necessary"shallbe warrantedas to defectsfor the

warrantyperiod.Any WarrantedPartwhich is scheduledfor replacement

as requiredmaintenanceshallbe warrantedas to defectsonly forthe

periodof time up to the first scheduledreplacementfor that part.Any

replacementpart that isequivalentin performanceand durabilitymay

be usedin the performanceof any maintenanceor repairs.The owneris

responsibleforthe performanceof all requiredmaintenance,as definedin

the SearsOperatingand MaintenanceInstructions.

6. ConsequentialCoverage

Coveragehereundershallextend to thefailure of anyengine components

caused bythe failureof any WarrantedPartstill underwarranty.

YOURWARRANTYRIGHTSANDOBLIGATIONS

MTD Consumer Group Inc, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and for those products certified for sale in the state of

California, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) are pleased to explain the emission (evaporative and/or exhaust) control system (ECS)

warranty on your 2013 and later small off-road spark-ignited engine and equipment (outdoor equipment engine). In California, new outdoor

equipment engines must be designed, built and equipped to meet the State's stringent anti-smog standards (in other states, outdoor

equipment engines must be designed, built, and equipped to meet the U.S. EPA small off-road spark ignition engine regulations). MTD

Consumer Group Inc must warrant the ECSon your outdoor equipment engine for the period of time listed below, provided there has been no

abuse, neglect, or improper maintenance of the outdoor equipment engine.

Your ECS may include parts such as the carburetor, fuel-injection system, ignition system, catalytic converter, fuel tanks, fuel lines, fuel caps,

valves, canisters, filters, vapor hoses, clamps, connectors, and other associated emission-related components.

Where a warrantable condition exists, MTD Consumer Group Inc will repair your outdoor equipment engine at no cost to you including

diagnosis, parts, and labor.

MANUFACTURER'SWARRANTYCOVERAGE:

This emission control system is warranted for two years. If any emission-related part on your outdoor equipment engine is defective, the

part will be repaired or replaced by MTD Consumer Group Inc. In the event that a component is covered for longer than two years by the

Manufacturer's equipment warranty, the longer coverage period will apply.

OWNERSWARRANTYRESPONSIBILITIES:

As the outdoor equipment engine owner, you are responsible for performance of the required maintenance listed in your owner's manual. MTD

Consumer Group Inc recommends that you retain all receipts covering maintenance on your outdoor equipment engine, but MTD Consumer

Group Inc cannot deny warranty solely for the lack of receipts.

As the outdoor equipment engine owner, you should however be aware that MTD Consumer Group Inc may deny you warranty coverage if

your outdoor equipment engine or a part has failed due to abuse, neglect, improper maintenance, or unapproved modifications.

You are responsible for presenting your outdoor equipment engine to MTD Consumer Group Inc's distribution center or service center as soon

as the problem exists. The warranty repairs should be completed in a reasonable amount of time, not to exceed 30 days. If you have a question

regarding your warranty coverage, you should contact the MTD Consumer Group Inc Service Department at 1-800-800-7310 or at

http://su pport.mtd prod ucts.com.

GENERALEMISSIONSWARRANTYCOVERAGE:

MTD Consumer Group Inc warrants to the ultimate purchaser and each subsequent purchaser that the outdoor equipment engine is: (1)

designed, built, and equipped so as to conform with all applicable regulations; and (2) free from defects in materials and workmanship that

cause the failure of a warranted part for a period of two years.

The warranty period begins on the date the outdoor equipment engine is delivered to an ultimate purchaser or first placed into service.

Subject to certain conditions and exclusions as stated below, the warranty on emission-related parts is as follows:

1. Any warranted part that is not scheduled for replacement as required maintenance in the written instructions supplied is warranted for

the warranty period stated above. If the part fails during the period of warranty coverage, the part will be repaired or replaced by MTD

Consumer Group Inc according to subsection (4) below. Any such part repaired or replaced under warranty will be warranted for the

remainder of the period.

2. Any warranted part that is scheduled only for regular inspection in the written instructions supplied is warranted for the warranty period

stated above. Any such part repaired or replaced under warranty will be warranted for the remaining warranty period.

3. Any warranted part that is scheduled for replacement as required maintenance in the written instructions supplied is warranted for the

period of time before the first scheduled replacement date for that part. If the part fails before the first scheduled replacement, the part

will be repaired or replaced by MTD Consumer Group Inc according to subsection (4) below. Any such part repaired or replaced under

warranty will be warranted for the remainder of the period prior to the first scheduled replacement point for the part.

Repair or replacement of any warranted part under the warranty provisions herein must be performed at a warranty station at no charge

to the owner.

5. Notwithstanding the provisions herein, warranty services or repairs will be provided at all of our distribution centers that are franchised to

service the subject engines or equipment.

6. The outdoor equipment engine owner will not be charged for diagnostic labor that is directly associated with diagnosis of a defective,

emission-related warranted part, provided that such diagnostic work is performed at a warranty station.

7. MTD Consumer Group Inc is liable for damages to other engine or equipment components proximately caused by a failure under

warranty of any warranted part.

8. Throughout the off-road engine and equipment warranty period stated above, MTD Consumer Group Inc will maintain a supply of

warranted parts sufficient to meet the expected demand for such parts.

9. Any replacement part may be used in the performance of any warranty maintenance or repairs and must be provided without charge to

the owner. Such use will not reduce the warranty obligations of MTD Consumer Group Inc.

10. Add-onormodifiedpartsthatarenotexemptedbytheAirResourcesBoardmaynotbeused.Theuseofanynon-exemptedadd-onor

modifiedpartsbytheultimatepurchaserwillbegroundsfordisallowingawarrantyclaims.MTDConsumerGroupIncwillnotbeliableto

warrantfailuresofwarrantedpartscausedbytheuseofanon-exemptedadd-onormodifiedpart.

WARRANTEDPARTS:

The repair or replacement of any warranted part otherwise eligible for warranty coverage may be excluded from such warranty coverage if

MTD Consumer Group Inc demonstrates that the outdoor equipment engine has been abused, neglected, or improperly maintained, and that

such abuse, neglect, or improper maintenance was the direct cause of the need for repair or replacement of the part. That notwithstanding,

any adjustment of a component that has a factory installed, and properly operating, adjustment limiting device is still eligible for warranty

coverage. Further, the coverage under this warranty extends only to parts that were present on the off-road engine and equipment purchased.

originalesSears,o abuso,negligenciao mantenimientoincorrecto,tal y

es responsablede lasfallas en piezascon garantiaprovocadaspor el uso

5. Mantenimiento

Cualquierpartecon garantiaque no esteprogramadaparaserreem-

plazadacomomantenimientorequerido,o que s61odebainspeccionarse

regularmentealefecto de "inspeccioneo reemplacesegL]nsea necesario",

estar_garantizadacontradefectosduranteel periodode la garantia.Todas

las piezasgarantizadasqueesten programadasparasu reemplazopara

DECLARACI6NFEDERALy/o DECALiFORNiASOBREGARANTiASENELCONTROLDEEMISIONES

SUSDERECHOSY OBLIGACIONESENCUANTOA LAGARANTiA

MTD Consumer Group Inc, la Agencia de Proteccidn Medioambiental de los Estados Unidos (EPA), y para aquellos productos certificados para su

venta en el estado de California, el Departamento de los Recursos del Aire de California (CARB) se complacen en explicar la garantia que cubre

al sistema de control (ECS) de emisiones (evaporativas y/o de escape) de su equipo y motor (motor de equipos de exteriores) de encendido por

chispa para todo terreno, peque_o, de exteriores del a_o 2013 y ahos posteriores En California, los nuevos motores de equipos de exteriores

deben estar dise_ados, construidos y equipados para cumplir con las estrictas normas antipolucidn del Estado (en otros estados, los equipos

del aho 1997 y modelos posteriores deben ser estar dise_ados, construidos y equipados para cumplir con las regulaciones de motores de

encendido por chispa para todo terreno peque_os de la Agencia de Proteccidn Medioambiental de los Estados Unidos, (EPA). MTD Consumer

Group Inc. debe garantizar el sistema de control de emisiones (ECS) de su motor de equipos de exteriores por el periodo de tiempo indicado

m_is abajo, siempre y cuando no exista uso incorrecto, negligencia o mantenimiento inadecuado de dicho motor.

Su ECS puede incluir piezas tales como el carburador, el sistema de inyeccidn de combustible, el sistema de encendido, el convertidor catalitico,

los depdsitos de combustible, las lineas de combustible, los tapones de combustible, las wilvulas, contenedores, filtros, mangueras de vapor,

abrazaderas, conectores y otros componentes afines relacionados con las emisiones.

Donde exista una condicidn cubierta por la garantia, MTD Consumer Group Inc. reparar_i su motor de equipos de exteriores sin costo alguno

incluyendo el diagn6stico, las piezas y la mano de obra.

COBERTURADELAGARANTiADELFABRICANTE:

Este sistema de control de emisiones se garantiza por el t_rmino de dos a_os. Si alguna pieza relacionada con las emisiones de su motor de

equipos de exteriores es defectuosa, MTD CONSUMER GROUP INC. reparar_i o sustituir_i dicha pieza. En caso de que un componente est,1

cubierto pot m_is de dos ahos pot la garantia del equipo del fabricante, el periodo de cobertura ya no se aplicar_i.

RESPONSAI31LIDADESDELPROPIETARiOSEGUNLAGARANTiA:

En su car_icter de propietario del motor de equipos de exteriores, usted es responsable del mantenimiento requerido que se especifica en el

manual del propietario. MTD Consumer Group Inc le recomienda que conserve todos los recibos que cubren el mantenimiento de su motor, no

obstante Io cual MTD Consumer Group Inc no podr_i denegar el cumplimiento de la garantia 0nicamente pot la falta de los recibos.

Como propietario del motor de equipos de exteriores, usted debe saber que MTD Consumer Group Inc. puede denegar la cobertura de

la garantia si su motor o una pieza del mismo fallan debido a uso incorrecto, negligencia, mantenimiento indebido o a modificaciones no

aprobadas.

Usted es responsable de presentar su motor al centro de distribuci6n o servicio t_cnico de MTD Consumer Group Inc. tan pronto como

aparezca el problema. Las reparaciones cubiertas por la garantia se deben Ilevar a cabo en un lapso razonable que no exceda de 30 dias.

COBERTURADELAGARANTiADEEMISIONESGENERALES:

MTD Consumer Group Inc garantiza al comprador final y a cada comprador subsiguiente que el motor de equipos de exteriores: est,1 dise_ado,

construido y equipado de modo de cumplir con todas las regulaciones aplicables y que se encuentra libre de defectos de materiales y de

fabricaci6n que pudieren causar la falla de una pieza garantizada id_ntica, en todos los aspectos materiales a la pieza descripta en la solicitud

de certificacidn de MTD Consumer Group Inc.

El periodo de garantia comienza en la fecha de entrega del motor al comprador final o en la fecha en que la m_iquina se pone en

funcionamiento pot primera vez. El periodo de garantia es de dos ahos.

Sujeto a ciertas condiciones y exclusiones que se indican a continuaci6n, la garantia de las piezas relacionadas con las emisiones es la siguiente:

1. Cualquier pieza garantizada que no est_ programada para set reemplazada como parte del mantenimiento requerido en las instrucciones

escritas suministradas se garantiza pot el periodo de garantia arriba mencionado. Si la pieza falla durante el periodo de cobertura de la

garantia, la misma ser_i reparada o reemplazada pot MTD Consumer Group Inc. de acuerdo con el p_irrafo (4) a continuaci6n. Cualquier

pieza reparada o reemplazada seg0n la garantia se garantizar_i por el resto del periodo de garantia.

2. Cualquier pieza garantizada que est_ programada solamente para inspecci6n regular en las instrucciones escritas suministradas se

garantiza pot el periodo de garantia arriba mencionado. Cualquier pieza reparada o reemplazada seg0n la garantia se garantizar_i pot el

resto del periodo.

3. Cualquier pieza garantizada que est_ programada para reemplazo seg0n el mantenimiento requerido de conformidad con las

instrucciones escritas suministradas, se garantiza pot el periodo de tiempo anterior a la primera fecha de reemplazo programada para esa

pieza. Si la pieza falla antes del primer reemplazo programado, la misma ser_i reparada o reemplazada pot MTD Consumer Group Inc. de

acuerdo con el p_irrafo (4) a continuaci6n. Cualquier pieza reparada o reemplazada bajo garantia se garantizar_i pot el resto del periodo

anterior al primer reemplazo programado puntual para esa pieza.

4. La reparaci6n o el reemplazo de cualquier pieza garantizada de conformidad con las disposiciones de la garantia que aqui se estipula se

deben realizar en un centro de garantia sin costo alguno para el propietario.

5. No obstante las disposiciones que aqui se estipulan, los servicios o reparaciones bajo garantia se suministrar_in en todos nuestros centros

de distribuci6n bajo franquicia de mantenimiento para los motores o equipos en cuesti6n.

6. Elpropietariodelmotordeequiposdeexterioresnodeber_pagareltrabajodediagndsticodirectamenteasociadoconunapieza

garantizadadefectuosaenrelaci6nconlasemisiones,siempreycuandodichotrabajodediagn6sticoserealiceenuncentrocubiertopot

lagarantia.

7. MTDConsumerGroupIncesresponsablepotdahoscausadosaotroscomponentesdemotoresoequiposderivadosdelafallabajo

garantiadecualquierpiezagarantizada.

8. Durantelatotalidaddelperiododegarantiadelmotoryequipoparatodoterrenoarribamencionado,MTDConsumerGroupInc

mantendr_unsuministro

depiezasbajogarantiasuficienteparasatisfacerlademandaesperadadetalespiezas.

9. Cualquierpiezadereemplazosepodr_usarparaelcumplimientodelmantenimientoolasreparacionesbajogarantiaysesuministraran

sincargopara

elpropietario.Dichousonoreducir_lasobligacionesdegarantiadeMTDConsumerGroupInc.

]0. Nosepodr_nusarpiezasadicionalesnimodificadasquenoest_nexentasdeacuerdoconelDepartamentodelosRecursosdelAire

(AirResourcesBoard).Elusodecualquierpiezaadicionalomodificadanoexentapotelcompradorfinalser_causaldeinvalidezdelos

reclamosbajogarantia.MTDConsumerGroupIncnotendr_responsabilidadpotlagarantiadefallasdepiezasgarantizadasquefueren

causadaspotelusodeunapiezaadicionalnoexenta

omodificada.

PI EZAS GARANTIZAi)AS:

La reparaci6n o el reemplazo de cualquier pieza garantizada que de otro modo pudiese estar cubierta por la garantia podr_ ser excluida de

tal cobertura de garantia si MTD Consumer Group Inc demuestra que el motor es objeto de uso incorrecto, negligencia o mantenimiento

inadecuado, y que tal uso incorrecto, negligencia o mantenimiento inadecuado rue causa directa de la necesidad de reparaci6n o reemplazo de

dicha pieza. No obstante Io antedicho, cualquier ajuste de un componente con un dispositivo de limitaci6n de ajuste instalado en f_brica y que

funcione adecuadamente, podr_ set cubierto pot la garantia. Adem_s,

la cobertura bajo esta garantia se extiende solo a piezas que estuvieron presentes en el motor y equipo todo terreno adquiridos.
