Neverstorethe machineor fuelcontainernearanopenflame,sparkor pilot

gasoline.Gasolineis extremelyflammable andthe vapors areexplosive.
Seriouspersonalinjury canoccurwhen gasolineisspilled on yourself or your
clotheswhich canignite. Washyourskin andchangeclothesimmediately.

Afterstrikingaforeignobject,stopthe engine,disconnectthe sparkplug
wire andgroundagainstthe engine.Thoroughlyinspectthe lawnedgerfor
anydamage.Repairthe damagebeforestartingandoperatingthe lawn
edger.

Useonlyan approvedgasolinecontainer.

Neverattemptto makea wheeladjustmentwhilethe engineis running.

Neverfill containersinsideavehicleor on atruckortrailer bedwith aplastic
liner.Alwaysplacecontainerson the groundawayfromyourvehiclebefore
filling.
Removegas-powered
equipmentfrom the truckor trailerandrefuelit on
the ground.If thisisnot possible,thenrefuelsuchequipmentona trailer
with aportablecontainer,ratherthanfrom agasolinedispensernozzle.

Manycomponentsonyournewedgercanwearwithcontinueduse.For
safetyprotection,frequentlycheckall edgercomponentsandreplace
immediatelywith originalequipmentmanufacturer's(O.E.M.)

Keepthe nozzleincontactwith the rim of the fueltank or containeropening
at all timesuntilfuelingiscomplete.Donot useanozzlelock-opendevice.

governorcontrolsthe maximumsafeoperatingspeedof the engine.

Extinguishall cigarettes,cigars,pipesandothersources
of ignition.

Maintainor replacesafetyandinstructionlabels,asnecessary.

RecoilStarter
Thisblade controlisasafety device.Neverattempt to bypassitsoperation.
Therecoilstarterisusedtostart the engine.

Curb HeightAdjustmentLever

Primer

Thecurbheightadjustmentleverisfoundonthe rearportionof the edger.When
placedinanapplicablenotch,it aidsinstabilizingthe edgerwhileedginggrass
alongacurb.

Theprimerisusedto pumpgasinto the carburetorandaid instartingthe engine.
Useit to startacoldengine,but donot useit to restartawarmengineafterashort
shutdown.

Meets ANSISafety Standards
CraftsmanEdgersconformto the safetystandardof theAmericanNationalStandards
Institute(ANSI).

Besurenooneotherthan the operator isstanding nearthe lawnmower
while starting engine or operating mower.Neverrunengineindoorsor
in enclosed,poorlyventilated areas.Engineexhaustcontainscarbon
monoxide,an odorlessanddeadlygas. Keephands,feet, hairand loose
clothing away from any moving parts on engine andJawnmower.

ToStart Engine

Movethe bladedepthcontrolleverbackto the START
positioninthe
adjacent(top)notch.

Pushthe primerthreetimes.SeeFigure8. Donot primeto restartawarm
engine.
NOTE:Ifyou pushthe primertoo manytimes,excessive
fuelwill floodthe
carburetorandthe enginewill bedifficult to start.

Standingbehindthe edger,depressthe bladecontrolandhold it againstthe
upperhandlewithyourleft hand.

This bladecontrol mechanismis asafety device.Neverattempt to bypass
itsoperation.

Withyourright hand,grasprecoilstarterhandleandpullropeslowlyuntil
resistanceisfelt, thenpullwith arapid,continuous,full armstroke.See
Figure8. Keepingafirm gripon the startercordhandle,letthe roperewind
slowly.Repeatuntil enginecranks.Letthe roperewindeachtime slowly.

Keepa firm grip on the cordhandle andmaintain sufficient backward
tension on the cordat all times to prevent rapidstarter cordretraction
(kickback).Rapidretraction canpull arm and handtoward the engine
faster than you can let go, and result in brokenbones,fractures,bruisesor
sprains.

ToStop Engine
1.

Release
bladecontrolto stopthe engineandblade.

area clearof bystandersanddo not operate without guardsin place.

Donot lower blade if bladeis overconcrete,asphalt, rocksor the like. Blade
can strike supportingsurface,resultingin personalinjury or property
damage.

With the bladecontrolsqueezedagainstthe handlein the operating
position,makea passalongareato beedgedbeforeproceedingto the next
notch.Thefurther forwardthat the bladedepthcontrolleverismoved,the
deeperor lowerthe bladewill cut intothe ground.Severalpasses
maybe
necessary
to obtainthe desireddepthof cut.Donot lowerblademorethan
onedepth notchat atime without makingapass.

Forbestresults,proceedslowlyalongthe pathbeingedged.Slowlymove
edgerbackandforth throughcuttingarea,againmakingsureto keepthe
left rearwheelon the hardsurfaceandthe bladeinthe cuttingpath,closeto
but not touchingthe edgeof the hardsurface.

Onceyouhavefinishededgingselectedarea,raisethe bladedepthcontrol
leverbackinto the START
position,moveto the next areato beedged,and
proceedagainfrom step1.

Tobeginedging,proceedasfollows:
1.

Moveedgerto anareato beedged,makingsurethatthe left rearwheelison
ahardsurfaceandthe bladeisoverthe areato becut. SeeFigure9.

EdgingAlongACurb

Trenching

Theright rearwheelof the edgercanbe loweredintooneof fivepositionsto ease
the taskof edgingalongacurb.Toadjustthe heightof curbwheel,proceedas
follows:

Youcanutilizethe edger'soptionaltrenchingfeaturein orderto createawider
cutting pathfor suchthingsaslayingwirefor landscape
lighting.
