movingthe controlhandle.Splitas follows:

ignition.
Neverfuel machineindoors.

UNPACKING
SPLITTER

& ASSEMBLING

Insertthe hex boltsthroughtop holesin the jack stand mounting
bracketsand holesin the adjustablejack stand.Securewith lock
nuts.

11. The adjustablejack stand is raisedbyturningthe crankclockwise
and loweredby turningcounter-clockwise.
12. Withthelogsplitterstillsecuredtothebottomofthecrate,removetwo
hexboltsandhexnutsfromthetankbracketandremovethepieceof
woodinsidethetankbrackets.SeeFigure2.

TOOLS NEEDED: Safetyglasses,leathergloves,wirecutters,prybar
and/orclawhammer.
1.

Use a pry bar or claw hammerto loosenand removethe topof
thecrate.

Use a pry bar or claw hammerto removethe sidesof thecrate,
beginningwith the short sides (or left and rightsideof the log
splitter).Setthe sides of the crateasideto avoid injury.

Onthefrontsideofthecratethetongueassemblyis attachedon the
insideof thecratewitha cabletie.Cutthecabletieto removetongue.
Removethe largeplasticcoverand discard.

Do NOTremoveanywoodor cut any strapssecuringthe log splitter
I or its componentsto the log splitteror thecrate at this time. Only
removestrapsand/orwoodwhen instructedto do so.

inspectthe bottomof the crate for anyprotrudingstaplesor wood
splintersand remove.

Removeany looseparts includedwith the log splitter(i.e. operatot's manual,etc.).
Removethe four hexbolts and lock nuts for securingadjustable
jack standfrom hardwarepack.

securewiththe hexboltsand nutsjust removed.See Figure2.
NOTE: Thehigh pressurehose,which runsfromthe gear pumpto the

17. Disconnectthe log cradlefromthe beamon theside of the control
valve by removingthe two hexwasherscrewsthat secureit to the
beamand the two hex washerscrewsin the beamflange.The
cradleis off-set for shippingpurposes.See Figure5.

Removeanybolts or strapssecuringthe end plateto the bottom
of the crate.
15. Pull outthe verticalbeamlock, rotateit back,and pivot the beam
to the horizontalpositionuntilit locks,beingcarefulto avoidany
possiblepinchpoints.See Figure3.

18. Lift and slidethe cylinderup to the top of beamand intothe weld

Takeextra carewhen raisingand loweringthe beamas it is fairly
heavy.Havinga secondpersonassist with raisingor loweringthe
beamis recommended.Be sureto keephandsawayfrom any
possiblepinchpoints.
16. Disconnectthe dislodgerfrom the beamweld bracketby removing the six hex screws.See Figure4.

Removeoil fill dipstick.
Checkthe oil levelmakingcertain notto rub the dipstickalongthe
insidewalls of the oil fill tube. This wouldresultin a falsedipstick
reading.Refillto betweenthe HIGH(H) and LOW(L) markson
the dipstick,if necessary.Replacethe dipstickand tighten.See
Figure8.

crateand removethe woodunderthe engineand/orany other
wood,then roll the log splitteroff the bottomof the shippingcrate.

If necessary,with the log splitteron levelground,use a funnel
to fill engine with oil to betweenthe High(H) and Low(L) marks
on thedipstick. Becareful notto overfill.Overfillingwillcause
the engineto smokeprofuselyand will resultin poorengine
performance.

Checkthe oil levelthreetimes priorto startingthe engineto be
certain you'vegotten an accuratedipstick reading.Runningthe
enginewith too little oil can resultin permanentengine damage.

SET-UP
Tire Pressure
The max recommendedoperatingpressureis 30 psi. Do not, under
anycircumstances,exceedthe manufacturer'srecommendedpsi.
Maintainequal pressureon all tires.

Excessivepressurewhen seatingbeadsmay causetire/rim
to burstwith force sufficientto cause seriousinjury.
Gas and Oil Fill-Up
Servicethe enginewith gasolineand oil as instructedbelow.Readthe
instructionscardully.

Useextremecarewhenhandlinggasoline.Gasolineis extremely
flammableand the vaporsare explosive.Neverfuelthe machine
indoorsor whilethe engineis hot or running.
NOTE:Your log splittermaybe shippedwith motoroil in the engine.
You MUSTchecktheoil levelbeforeoperating.Be carefulnot to
overfill.Gasolinecan be addedto theenginewhenthe log splitteris
in eitherthe horizontalor verticalposition.However,it maybe easier
whenthe splitteris in the verticalposition.

Gasoline

PREPARING

Operatingthe enginewith E85fuel, an oil/gasolinemixture,dirty
gasoline,or gasolineover30 days old that has not beenstabilizedusinga fuel additive,may resultin damageto yourengine'scarburetor.
Subsequentdamagewouldnot be coveredunderthe manufacturer's
warranty.

THE LOG SPLITTER

Lubricatethebeamarea (wherethe splittingwedgewill slide)with
engineoil. Donot usegrease.

Removethe ventedreservoirdipstick,which is locatedin front of
the engineon topof the reservoirtank.See Figure10.

Use automotivegasoline(unleadedor low leadedto minimizecombustionchamberdeposits)with a minimumof 87 octane.Gasolinewith
up to 10%ethanolor 15%MTBE(MethylTertiaryButylEther)can be
used. Neveruse an oil/gasolinemixtureor dirty gasoline.Avoidgetting
dirt, dust,or waterin the fueltank. DONOT use E85gasoline.

An adultshouldfuelthis engine.NEVERallowchildrento refuelthis
engine.Gasoline(fuel)vaporsare highlyflammableand canexplode.
Fuelvaporscan spreadand be ignitedby a sparkor flame manyfeet
away from engine.Topreventinjuryor deathfrom fuelfires, DO NOT
useleadedfuel, Fuelmust be freshand clean. NEVERusefuel left
over from last seasonor storedfor long periods,NEVERmix oil with
fuel and DONOTuse fuelcontainingMethanol(WoodAlcohol).

Beforerefueling,allowthe engineto cool for two minutes.
Be sureengine is outdoorsand in a well-ventilatedarea.

Cleanareaaroundthe fuelfill capand removethe fuelfill cap.
Usingan approvedred GASOLINEcontainer,add fuel slowly,
beingcarefulto avoidspilling.
Fill thetank untilthefuel reachesthe"fuel full" indicatormark.

NOTE:Thelogsplitterisfilledtotheproperoperatinglevelfromthe
manufacturer
withShellTellus®$2 M32 HydraulicFluid.However,
you
MUSTcheckthefluidlevelbeforeoperating.Ifnotfilled,proceedwiththe
followingsteps:

Muchof the originalfluidhas beendrawnintothe cylinderand hoses.
If the reservoiris emptyor low, makecertainto refillitto prevent
damageto the hydraulicpump.

Checkthe fluidlevelusingthe dipstick.See Figure8. Donot
overfill.

Replacethe venteddipsticksecurely,tighteningituntilthe top of
the threadsare flush with topof the pipe.

Disconnectthe sparkplug and primethe pumpby pullingthe
recoilstarteras far as itwill go. Repeatapproximately10times.
Reconnectthe spark plugwire and startthe enginefollowingthe
instructionsin the Operationsection.

Usethe controlhandleto engagethe wedgeto the farthest
extendedposition.Thenretractthe wedge.
8. Refillthe tankas specifiedon the dipstick.
NOTE:Failureto refillthe tank will voidthe splitter'swarranty.

Replacethe fuel capand tighten securely.Wipe up spilledfuel beforestartingengine.If fuel isspilledDO NOTstartengine.Move
machineawayfrom area of spillage.Avoidcreatinganysourceof
ignitionuntilfuelvaporsare gone.
Be surefuel valve isopen.

Extendand retractthe wedge12 completecyclesto removeany
air trappedin the system(the systemis "self-bleeding").
10. Refillthe reservoirwithinthe rangemarkedon the dipstick.
NOTE:Somefluidmay overflowfromthe vent plug as the system
