the engine runs smoothly before
each choke adjustment.

How To Start A Warm Engine
if restarting a warm engine after a short
shutdown, leave choke at "OFF" and do
not push the primer button. If the engine fails to start, fol!ow the Cold Start
instructions.
(Electric
Start) First disconnect
power cord from receptacle.
Then,
disconnect
the power cord from the
starter motor.
Frozen Starter
If the starter is frozen and will not turn
the engine, follow the steps below.
1. Pull as much starter rope as possible out of the starter.
2. Release the starter handle and let it
snap back against the starter. Repeat until the engine starts.
Warm engines will cause condensation
in cold weather. To prevent possible
freeze-up of recoil starter and engine
controls, proceed as follows after each
snow removal job.
1. With engine off, allow engine to cool
for several minutes.
2. Pull starter rope very slowly until resistance is felt, then stop. Allow the
starter rope to recoil. Repeat three
times.

the most common cause of injury associated with snow throwers. Never
use your hand to clean out the discharge chute.
To Clear The Chute:

Torque values are derived at

values are
derived at 3600 RPM. Actual gross
engine power will be lower and is
affected by, among other things,
ambient operating
conditions
and
engine-to-engine

Given both
the wide array of products on which
engines are placed and the variety of
environmental
issues applicable to
operating the equipment,
the gas
engine will not develop the rated gross
power when used in a given piece of
power equipment
(actual "on-site"

is due to a
variety of factors including,
but not
limited to, accessories
(air cleaner,

cooling, carburetor,
fuel pump, etc.), application
limitations,
ambient operating
conditions
(temperature, humidity, altitude), and engine-toengine variability.

Look For Relevant Emissions Durability Period and Air
Index Information On Your Engine Emission Label
Engines that are certified to meet the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Tier 2
Emission Standards must display information regarding the Emissions Durability Period and the Air Index. Sears, Roebuck and Co., U.S.A. makes this information available to the consumer on our emission labels. The engine emission label will indicate
certification information.
The Emissions Durability Period describes the number of hours of actual running
time for which the engine is certified to be emissions compliant, assuming proper
maintenance in accordance with the Operating & Maintenance Instructions. The fo!lowing categories are used:
Moderate: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 125 hours of actual engine
running time.
Intermediate:
Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 250 hours of actual engine running time.
Extended: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 500 hours of actual engine
running time.
For example, a typical walk-behind lawn mower is used 20 to 25 hours per year.
Therefore, the Emissions
Durability Period of an engine with an intermediate
rating would equate to 10 to 12 years.
Certain Sears, Roebuck and Co., U.S.A. engines will be certified to meet the United
States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Phase 2 emission standards. For
Phase 2 certified engines, the Emissions Compliance Period referred to on the Emissions
Compliance label indicates the number of operating hours for which the engine has been
shown to meet Federal emission requirements.
Engines that are certified to meet the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Tier 2
Emissions Standard must display information regarding the Emissions Durability
Period and the Air Index. Sears, Roebuck and Co., U.S.A. makes this information
available to the consumer on our emissions labels. The engine emissions labe! will
indicate certification information.
For engines less than 225 cc displacement.
Category C = 125 hours
Category B = 250 hours
Category A = 500 hours
For engines of 225 cc or more displacement.
Category C = 250 hours
Category B = 500 hours
Category A = 1000 hours
