SEARS warrants to the original purchaser that the alternator and engine for its portable generator will be free
from defects in materials or workmanship for the items and period set forth below from the date of original
purchase. This warranty is not transferable.

* NOTE: For the purpose of this warranty "Consumer Use" means personal residential household and emergency
use by original purchaser, not to be used as a primary source of power. "Commercial Use" means all other uses,
including rental, construction, commercial, and income producing purposes. Once a generator has experienced
commercial use, it shall thereafter be considered a commercial use generator for the purpose of this warranty.
During said warranty period, SEARS will, at its option, repair or replace any part which, upon examination by
SEARS, is found to be defective under normal use and service**. Starting batteries are not warranted by SEARS.
All transportation costs under warranty, including return to the factory if necessary, are to be borne by the
purchaser and prepaid by him. This warranty does not cover normal maintenance and service and does not apply
to a generator set, alternator or engine, or parts which have been subjected to improper or unauthorized
installation or alteration, misuse, negligence, accident, overloading, over-speeding, improper maintenance, repair
or storage so as, in SEARS's judgment, to adversely affect its performance and reliability.
** NORMAL WEAR: As with all mechanical devices, engines need periodic parts service and replacement to
perform well. This warranty will not cover repair when normal use has exhausted the life of a part or engine.

Operating Instructions.
WARNING! You must isolate the generator
from the electric utility by opening the electrical
system's main circuit breaker or main switch if
this unit is used for backup power. Failure to
isolate the generator from the power utility
may result in injury or death to electric utility
workers and damage to the generator due to
a backfeed of electrical energy. When used as
backup power, the local power utility must be
notified.
DANGER! Generator exhaust gases contain
DEADLY carbon monoxide gas. Carbon
monoxide, if breathed in sufficient
concentrations, will cause unconsciousness
or death. Operate this equipment outdoors
where adequate ventilation is available.
CAUTION!
To prevent accidental starting when
setting up, transporting, adjusting or making
repairs to your generator, always disconnect
spark plug wire and place the wire where it
cannot contact the spark plug.

•

The unit requires an adequate flow of cooling air
for its continued proper operation. Never operate
the unit inside any room or enclosure where the
free flow of cooling air into and out of the unit might
be obstructed. Allow at least 3 feet of clearance on
all sides of generator or you could damage the unit.

•

The generator produces dangerously high voltage
that can cause extremely hazardous electrical
shock. Avoid contact with bare wires, terminals,
etc. Never permit any untrained person to operate
or service the generator.

•

Do Not overfill the fuel tank. Always allow room for
fuel expansion. If tank is overfilled, fuel can
overflow onto a hot engine and cause FIRE or an
EXPLOSION.

•

Never operate the generator:
in rain; in any enclosed compartment; when
connected electrical devices overheat; if electrical
output is lost; if engine or generator sparks; if flame
or smoke is observed while unit is running; if unit
vibrates excessively.

•

Never handle any kind of electrical cord or device
while standing in water, while barefoot or while
hands or feet are wet. Dangerous electrical shock
will result.

•

Use a ground fault circuit interrupter in any damp
or highly conductive area (such as metal decking or
steel work).

•

Do Not use worn, bare, frayed or otherwise
damaged electrical cord sets with the generator.
Using any defective cord set may result in electrical
shock or damage to property.

•

Operate generator only on level surfaces and
where it will not be exposed to excessive moisture,
dirt, dust or corrosive vapors.

•

Gasoline is highly FLAMMABLE and its vapors are
EXPLOSIVE. Do Not permit smoking, open flames,
sparks or heat in the vicinity while handling
gasoline. Avoid spilling gasoline on a hot engine.
Comply with all laws regulating storage and
handling of gasoline.

•

Never store generator with fuel in tank where
gasoline vapors might reach an open flame or
spark or pilot light (as on a furnace, water heater or
clothes dryer). FIRE or EXPLOSION may result.

•

Never add fuel while unit is running.

•

Never start or stop the unit with electrical loads
connected to receptacles AND with connected
devices turned ON. Start the engine and let it
stabilize before connecting electrical loads.
Disconnect all electrical loads before shutting down
the generator.

•

Do Not insert any object through cooling slots of
the engine-generator.

NOTE: Your generator is equipped with a spark
arrester muffler. The spark arrester must be
maintained in effective working order by the owner/
operator. In the State of California, a spark arrester is
required by law (Section 4442 of the California Public
Resources Code). Other states may have similar laws.
Federal laws apply on federal lands.

12 Volt DC, 10 Amp Receptacle -- Charges a
12 Volt automotive type battery.

Grounding Wing Nut -- Ground the generator to an
approved earth ground here.

120 Volt AC, 20 Amp Receptacle -- May be used to
supply electrical power for the operation of 120 Volt
AC, 20 Amp, single phase, 60 Hz electrical lighting,
appliance, tool and motor loads.

instructions.
Primer Button -- Used when starting a cold engine.
See page 7 for starting instructions.

Air Cleaner -- Filters intake air as it is drawn into the
engine.

Recoil Starter -- Used for starting the engine.

Circuit Breakers -- Each receptacle socket is
protected against electrical overload with "push to
reset" circuit breakers.

Run/Stop Switch -- Set switch to "Run" prior to using
recoil starter. Set switch to "Stop" to switch off engine.
Spark Arrester Muffler -- Exhaust muffler lowers
engine noise and is equipped with a spark arrester
screen.

Fuel Tank -- Tank holds 1 U.S. gallon of unleaded
gasoline.

Slice two corners at end of carton from top to
bottom so the panel can be folded down fiat, then
remove all packing material.

Remove the generator and contents from the
shipping carton.

Your generator is equipped with a wheel kit for easy
maneuvering. After you remove the generator from the
carton, adjust the guide handle. Use the following
steps:

120 Volt AC, 20 Amp, Duplex Receptacles
Each duplex receptacle is protected against overload
by a push-to-reset circuit breaker.

This receptacle allows you to recharge a 12 Volt
10 Amp automotive or utility style storage battery with
the battery charge cables provided. This receptacle
can not recharge 6 Volt batteries and can not be used
to crank an engine having a
discharged battery. See the

recharge a battery.

120 Volt Cord Sets
Use only high quality, well-insulated, extension cords
with the generator's 120 Volt electrical receptacles.

Use each receptacle to operate 120 Volt AC,
single-phase, 60 Hz electrical loads requiring up to
2,400 watts (2.4 kW) at 20 Amps of current. Use cord
sets that are rated for 125 Volt AC loads at 20 Amps
(or greater).
CAUTION! Although each receptacle is rated
for 120 Volts at 20 Amps (2,400 watts or
2.4 kW), the generator is rated for a total of
3,000 watts. Powering loads that exceed the
wattage capacity of the generator can damage it
or cause serious injuries. The total of loads
powered through these receptacles should not
exceed 20 Amps.

Check the ratings of all extension cords before you
use them. Such cords should be rated for 125 Volt AC
loads at 20 Amps (or greater) for most electrical
devices. Some devices, however, may not require this
type of extension cord. Check the owner's manuals of
those devices for their recommendations.
Keep extension cords as short as possible, preferably
less than 15 feet long, to prevent voltage drop and
possible overheating of wires.

Grounding

The Generator

The National Electrical Code requires that the frame
and external electrically conductive parts of this
generator be properly connected to an approved earth
ground. Local electrical codes may also require proper
grounding of the unit. For that purpose, a grounding
wing nut is provided on the generator housing.

Although multi-viscosity oils (5W30, 10W30, etc.)
improve starting in cold weather, these oils will result
in increased oil consumption. Check your engine oil
level more frequently to avoid possible damage from
running low on oil.
• Clean area around oil fill.
•

Remove oil fill cap and dipstick.

•

Wipe dipstick clean, insert it into oil fill hole and
tighten securely, remove dipstick. Add
recommended oil up to "Full" mark on dipstick.

•

Pour slowly. Wipe dipstick clean each time oil level
is checked. Do Not overfill.

•

Install oil fill plug and dipstick, tighten securely.

NOTE: Check oil often during engine break-in.

Add Gasoline
Grounding
Wing Nut

Generally, connecting a No. 12 AWG (American Wire
Gauge) stranded copper wire to the grounding wing nut
and to an earth-driven copper or brass grounding rod
(electrode) provides adequate protection against electrical
shock. However, local codes vary widely. Consult with a
local electrician for grounding requirements in your area.
Proper grounding of generator will help prevent electrical
shock in the event of a ground fault condition in the
generator or in connected electrical devices. Proper
grounding also helps dissipate static electricity, which
often builds up in ungrounded devices.

generator engine. Do Not use premium gasoline.

Unplug all electrical loads from the generator
receptacles before starting the engine. Never start
or stop the engine with electrical devices
connected to the receptacles AND turned on.

•

Unplug all electrical loads from the unit. Never start
or stop the engine with electrical devices plugged
in and turned on.

•

Be sure the spark plug wire is attached to the spark
plug.

Let the engine run at no-load for two minutes to
stabilize the units internal temperatures.

•

Move the Run/Stop switch to "STOP" position.

•

Place the Run/Stop switch in the "RUN" position.

•

Push the primer button 2 or 3 times. Wait about
2 seconds between each push. In cold weather
(50°F/10°C or below) push 5 times.

Cold Weather

Your unit is equipped with an anti-icing air cleaner
feature to enable the unit to run at temperatures below
32°F, without ice forming in the carburetor. The air
cleaner base will have an opening which draws warm
air from the muffler into the air cleaner housing. To
work effectively, it is necessary to block cold air from
entering the air cleaner.

Insert red baffle in "winter" position as shown.

NOTE: Primer may be needed to restart a warm
engine after a short shutdown.

Grasp starter grip and slowly pull the rope until you
feel some resistance, then pull the cord out with a
rapid full arm stroke. Let rope return slowly. Do Not
let rope "snap back" against engine.

NOTE: If the engine fails to start after 3 pulls, push the
primer button 2 times and pull the starter rope again.

Charging

a Battery

Storage batteries emit explosive
gas while charging that remains around a
battery for a long time after it has been charged.
The slightest spark can ignite the gas, causing
an explosion that can shatter the battery and
cause blindness or other injury.

panel receptacle identified by the words
"12 VOLT D.C."

Connect battery charge cable clamp with red
handle to battery post or terminal indicated by
POSITIVE, POS or (+).

flame for checking battery fluid levels. Wear
protective goggles, rubber apron and rubber
gloves when working around a battery. Battery
electrolyte fluid is an extremely caustic sulfuric
acid solution that can cause severe burns. Do
Not permit fluid contact with eyes, skin, clothing,
etc. If spill occurs, flush area with clear water
immediately.

Your generator has the capability of recharging a
discharged 12 Volt automotive or utility style storage
battery. Do Not use the unit to charge any 6 Volt
batteries. Do Not use the unit to crank an engine
having a discharged battery.
To recharge 12 Volt batteries, proceed as follows:
•

If necessary, clean battery posts or terminals.

•

Check fluid level in all battery cells. If necessary,
add ONLY distilled water to cover separators in
battery cells. Do Not use tap water.

•

If the battery is equipped with vent caps, make
sure they are installed and are tight.

Connect battery charge cable clamp with black
handle to battery post or terminal indicated by
NEGATIVE, NEG, or (-).

Start engine. Let the engine run while battery
recharges.

•

When battery has charged, shut down engine (see
"Stopping the Engine").

NOTE: Use an automotive hydrometer to test battery
state of charge and condition. Follow the hydrometer
manufacturer's instructions carefully. Generally, a
battery is considered to be at 100% state of charge
when specific gravity of its fluid (as measured by
hydrometer) is 1.260 or higher.

DON'T OVERLOAD
GENERATOR

THE

Overloading a generator in excess of its rated wattage
capacity can result in damage to the generator and to
connected electrical devices. Observe the following, to
prevent overloading the unit:
•

Add up the total wattage of all electrical devices to
be connected at one time. This total should NOT
be greater than the generator's wattage capacity.

•

The rated wattage of lights can be taken from light
bulbs. The rated wattage of tools, appliances and
motors can usually be found on a data plate or
decal affixed to the device.

If the appliance, tool or motor does not give
wattage, multiply volts times ampere rating to
determine watts (volts x amps = watts).

•

Some electric motors, such as induction types,
require about three times more watts of power for
starting than for running. This surge of power lasts
only a few seconds when starting such motors.
Make sure you allow for this high starting wattage
when selecting electrical devices to connect to your
generator. First, figure the watts needed to start the
largest motor. Add to that figure the running watts
of all other connected loads.

The Wattage Reference Guide provided here may
assist you in determining generator load.

GENERAL

Generator maintenance consists of keeping the unit
clean and dry. Operate and store the unit in a clean
dry environment where it will not be exposed to
excessive dust, dirt, moisture or any corrosive vapors.
Cooling air slots in the generator must not become
clogged with snow, leaves,or any other foreign
material.
Check the cleanliness of the generator frequently and
clean when dust, dirt, oil, moisture or other foreign
substances are visible on its exterior surface.

NOTE: Do Not use a garden hose to clean generator.
Water can enter the engine fuel system and cause
problems. In addition, if water enters the generator
through cooling air slots, some of the water will be
retained in voids and cracks of the rotor and stator
winding insulation. Water and dirt buildup on the
generator internal windings will eventually decrease
the insulation resistance of these windings.

ENGINE MAINTENANCE

To clean or replace paper air filter:

Oil level should be checked prior to each use or at
least every 5 hours of operation. Keep oil level
maintained.

Remove the wing nut and air cleaner cover and
remove the paper filter.

Change the oil after the first 2 hours of operation.
Change oil every 50 hours thereafter. If you are using
your generator under extremely dirty or dusty
conditions, or in extremely hot weather, change the oil
more often.

Cover

Change the oil while the engine is still warm from
running, as follows:

Wing Nut

Clean area around oil drain plug. The oil drain plug
is located at the base of the engine, opposite the
carburetor.

•

Clean the inside of the base and cover thoroughly.

•

Clean the paper filter by tapping it gently on a solid
surface. If the filter is too dirty, replace it with a new
one. Dispose of the old filter properly.

•

Remove oil drain plug and drain oil completely into
a suitable container.

•

Install oil drain plug and tighten securely.

please call 1-800-366-PART.

•

Fill oil sump with recommended
oil recommendations.

Change the spark plug every 100 hours of operation

help your engine to start easier and run better.

Remove and inspect the spark plug.

•

Replace the spark plug if electrodes are pitted or
burned or the porcelain is cracked. For
replacement use Champion RN4C or equivalent.

Screen

seven days and allowed to run at least 30 minutes. If
this cannot be done and you must store the unit for
more than 30 days, use the following information as a
guide to prepare it for storage.

Generator

It is important to prevent gum deposits from forming in
essential fuel system parts such as the carburetor, fuel
filter, fuel hose or tank during storage. Also,
experience indicates that alcohol-blended fuels (called
gasohol, ethanol or methanol) can attract moisture,
which leads to separation and formation of acids
during storage. Acidic gas can damage the fuel
system of an engine while in storage.

•

Clean the generator as outlined on page 11 ("To
Clean the Generator").

•

Check that cooling air slots and openings on
generator are open and unobstructed.

Other Storage

Tips

•

Do Not store gasoline from one season to another.

•

Replace your gasoline can if the can starts to rust.
Rust and/or dirt in your gasoline will cause
problems.

Protect Fuel System

•

If possible, store your unit indoors and cover it to
give protection from dust and dirt. BE SURE TO
EMPTY THE FUEL TANK.

•

Cover your unit with a suitable protective cover that
does not retain moisture.

•

Store generator in clean, dry area.

To avoid engine problems, the fuel system should be
emptied before storage of 30 days or longer. Follow

STATEMENT

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ("EPA"), the
California Air Resources Board ("CARB") and Tecumseh
Products Co. are pleased to explain the Federal and
California Emission Control Systems Warranty on your new
small off-road engine. In California, new model year 2000
and later small off-road engines must be designed, built and
equipped to meet the State's stringent anti-smog standards.
In other states, new model year 1997 and later small offroad engines must be designed, built and equipped, at the
time of sale, to meet U.S. EPA regulations. Tecumseh
Products Co. will warrant the emission control system on
your small off-road engine for the time periods listed below,
provided there has been no abuse, neglect, unapproved
modification, or improper maintenance of your small off-road
engine.

Important Note
This warranty statement explains your rights and obligations
under the Emission Control Warranty ("ECS Warranty")
which is provided to you by Tecumseh Products Co.
pursuant to California law. Tecumseh Products Co. also
provides to the original purchasers of new Tecumseh
Products Co. engines the Tecumseh Products Co. Limited
Warranties for New Tecumseh Engine and Electronic
Ignition Modules ("Tecumseh Products Co. Warranty") which
is enclosed with all new Tecumseh Products Co. engines on
a separate sheet. The ECS warranty applies only to the
emission control system of your new engine. To the extent
that there is any conflict in terms between the ECS
Warranty and the Tecumseh Products Co. Warranty, the
ECS Warranty shall apply except in any circumstances in
which the Tecumseh Products Co. Warranty may provide a
longer warranty period. Both the ECS Warranty and the
Tecumseh Products Co. Warranty describe important rights
and obligations with respect to your engine.

Your emission control system may include parts such as the
carburetor, ignition system and exhaust system. Also
included may be the compression release system and other
emission-related assemblies.
Where a warrantable condition exists, Tecumseh Products
Co. will repair your small off-road engine at no cost to you
for diagnosis, parts and labor.

Warranty Coverage

Warranty service can only be performed by a Tecumseh
Products Co. Authorized Service Outlet, or by Tecumseh
Products Co. at its factory in Grafton, WI. At the time of
requesting warranty service, evidence must be presented of
the date of sale to the original purchaser. The purchaser
shall pay any charges for making service calls and/or for
transporting the products to and from the place where the
inspection and/or warranty work is performed. The
purchaser shall be responsible for any damage or loss
incurred in connection with the transportation of any engine
or any part(s) there of submitted for inspection and/or
warranty work.

Emission control systems on model year 2000 and later
California small off-road engines are warranted for two
years as hereinafter noted. In other states, model year 1997
and later small off-road engines are also warranted for two
years. If during such warranty period, any emission-related
part on your engine is defective in materials or
workmanship, the part will be repaired or replaced by
Tecumseh Products Co.

Owner's Warranty Responsibilities
As the small off-road engine owner, you are responsible for
the performance of the required maintenance listed in your
Operating/Maintenance
Instructions, but Tecumseh
Products Co. will not deny warranty solely due to the lack of
receipts or for your failure to provided written evidence of
the performance of all scheduled maintenance.

If you have any questions regarding your warranty rights
and responsibilities, you should contact Tecumseh Products
Co. at 1-262-377-2700.

EMISSION CONTROL
WARRANTY

As the small off-road engine owner, you should, however,
be aware that Tecumseh Products Co. may deny you
warranty coverage if your small off-road engine or a part
thereof has failed due to abuse, neglect, improper
maintenance or unapproved modifications.

SYSTEM

Emission Control System Warranty ("ECS Warranty") for
model year 2000 and later California small off-road engines
(for other states, model year 1997 and later small off-road
engines):

You are responsible for presenting your small off-road
engine to a Tecumseh Authorized Service Outlet (any
Tecumseh Registered Service Dealer, Tecumseh
Authorized Service Distributor or Tecumseh Central
Warehouse Distributor) as soon as a problem exists. The
warranty repairs should be completed in a reasonable
amount of time, not to exceed 30 days.

A. Applicability:
This warranty shall apply to model year
2000 and later California small off-road engines (for other

The ECS Warranty Period shall begin on the date the new
engine or equipment is delivered to its original, end-use
purchaser, and shall continue for 24 consecutive months
thereafter.

B. General Emissions Warranty Coverage: Tecumseh
Products Co. warrants to the original, end-use purchaser of
the new engine or equipment and to each subsequent
purchaser that each of its small off-road engines is:

1. Designed, built and equipped so as to conform with all
applicable regulations by the Air Resources Board
pursuant to its authority in Chapters 1 and 2, Part 5,
Division 26 of the Health and Safety Code, and

The owner shall not be charged for diagnostic labor
which leads to the determination that a part covered
by the ECS Warranty is in fact defective, provided that
such diagnostic work is performed at a Tecumseh
Authorized Service Outlet.

6. Tecumseh Products Co. shall be liable for damages to
other original engine components or approved
modifications proximately caused by a failure under
warranty of an emission-related part covered by the
ECS warranty.

2. Free from defects in materials and workmanship
which, at any time during the ECS Warranty period,
will cause a warranted emissions-related part to fail to
be identical in all materials respects to the part as
described in the engine manufacturer's application for
certification.

7. Throughout the ECS Warranty Period, Tecumseh
Products Co. shall maintain a supply of warranted
emission-related parts sufficient to meet the expected
demand for such emission-related parts.

C. The ECS Warranty only pertains to emissions-related
parts on your engine, as follows:

emission-related replacement part may be used in the
performance of any ECS Warranty maintenance or
repair and will be provided without charge to the
owner. Such use shall not reduce Tecumseh Products

Products Co. engine caused by the use of such an
unapproved add-on or modified part.

2. Any warranted, emissions-related part which is
scheduled only for regular inspection as specified in
the Operation/Maintenance
Instructions shall be
warranted for the ECS Warranty Period. A statement
in such written instructions to the effect of "repair or
replace as necessary," shall not reduce the ECS
Warranty Period. Any such part repaired or replaced
under the ECS Warranty shall be warranted for the
remainder of the ECS Warranty Period.

sal6n o recinto cerrado donde el flujo libre de aire de
enfriamiento, hacia el interior y la parte externa de la
unidad, pueda ser obstruido. Sin suficiente flujo de aire
de enfriamiento, la unidad se recalienta rapidamente,
daSando el generador o la propiedad alrededor.

El generador produce un voltaje muy alto, el cual puede
ocasionar descargas el6ctricas extremamente
peligrosas. Evite el contacto con terminales, alambres
pelados o sin recubrimiento, etc. Nunca permita que

usar para darle arranque a motores
que tengan la bateria descargada.

Por Io general, la conexi6n de un alambre de cobre trenzado
No. 12 AWG (American Wire Gauge) a la aleta a tierra y a

proporciona una protecci6n adecuada contra las descargas
el6ctricas. Sin embargo, los c6digos locales pueden variar
substancialmente. Consulte con un electricista local para

•

Use gasolina regular SIN CONTENIDO DE PLOMO en el
generador. No use gasolina premium. No mezcle aceite
con gasolina.

funsiona a temperaturas de 32°F o-mas bajas sin que se
acomule hielo en el carburador. La base del limpiador de
aire tiene apertura que absorbe aire calido del moffle acia el
limpiador de aire para que Io aga trabajar correctamente es
nesesario bloquear aire frio para que no entre al limpiador
de aire.

Remover la tuerca de mariposa de el covertor del

Remover el baffle rojo de adentro del covertor del
limpiador de aire.

•

Insertar baffle rojo en posicion de invierno como
semuestra.

Agarre el mango del arrancador y hale la soga lentamente
hasta que sienta cierta resistencia. Devuelva la cuerda a su
posici6n original y despu6s halelo con un movimiento
completo y rapido del brazo. Deje que la soga se devuelva
lentamente. No deje que la soga se "devuelva rapidamente"
contra el arrancador.

NOTA: Si el motor no arranca despu6s de 3 intentos,
oprima el bot6n del cebador 2 veces y vuelva a halar la
soga del arrancador.

de Carga de la Bateria

Las baterias de acumuladores
producen gas explosivo cuando son cargadas, el cual
permanece alrededor de la bateria por un periodo de
tiempo prolongado despu6s de haber sido cargada. La
chispa mas pequeSa podria encender el combustible y
causar una explosi6n que puede destruir la bateda,
causar ceguera y otras lesiones serias.

•

Si la bateria esta equipada con tapas de desfogue,
asegQrese de que estan instaladas y apretadas.

•

Conecte el enchufe conector del cable de carga de la bateria
al tomacorrientes del panel identiflcado con las palabras
"12-VOLTS D.C.".

•

Conecte el sujetador del cable de carga de la bateria que
tiene la manija roja al terminal o borne de la bateria marcado
con el signo POSlTIVO, POS o (+).

12 BATERiA DEL VOLTIO

Su generador tiene la capacidad de recargar batedas
descargadas de acumuladores tipo servicio o automotriz de
12 Voltios. No utilice la unidad para cargar baterias de 6 Voltios.
No use la unidad para mover motores que tengan la bateria
descargada.
Para recargar baterias de 12 Voltios, Ileve a cabo los
siguientes procedimientos:
•

Limpie los terminales de la bateria si es necesario.

•

Revise el nivel del liquido en todas las celdas de la bated&
Si es necesario, aSada agua destilada UNICAMENTE hasta
cubrir los separadores de las celdas de la bated& No use
agua de grifo.

NEGATIVO

•

Conecte el sujetador del cable de carga de la bateria que
tiene la manija negra al terminal o borne de la bateria
marcado con el signo NEGATIVO, NEG o (-).

•

Arranque el motor. Deje que el motor funcione mientras la
bateria se recarga.

•

Cuando la bateria haya cargado, apague el motor (vea
"Parado del Motor" a continuaci6n).

NOTA: Use un hidr6metro para autom6viles para probar el
estado de carga y condici6n de la bated& Siga cuidadosamente
las instrucciones del fabdcante del hidr6metro. Por Io general, se
considera que una bateda esta en un estado de carga de1100%
cuando la gravedad especifica de su liquido (medida por el
hidr6metro) es de 1.260 o mas.

NO SOBRECARGUE
GENERADOR

Sobrecargar el generador mas alia de su capacidad de
vatiaje puede ocasionar daSos al mismo y a los dispositivos
el6ctricos conectados. Siga las siguientes instrucciones para
evitar sobrecargar la unidad:
•

Sume el vatiaje total de todos los dispositivos el6ctricos
que van a ser conectados al mismo tiempo. Este total No
debe ser mayor que la capacidad de vatiaje del
generador.

•

El vatiaje nominal de las luces puede ser tomado de los
bombillos. El vatiaje nominal de herramientas, aparatos
especiales y motores se puede encontrar, por Io general,
en la calcomania o placa de datos del dispositivo.

•

Si el aparato especial, herramienta o motor no suministra
el vatiaje, multiplique los voltios por la clasificaci6n de
amperaje para determinar los vatios
(voltios x amperios = vatios).

•

Algunos motores el6ctricos, como los de inducci6n,
requieren aproximadamente tres veces mas vatios de
poder para su arranque que para su funcionamiento.
Esta onda irruptiva de poder dura tan solo unos
segundos durante el arranque de dichos motores.
AsegQrese de tener en cuenta este alto vatiaje de
arranque cuando seleccione los dispositivos el6ctricos
que va a conectar a su generador. Primero, calcule la
cantidad de vatios necesarios para dar arranque al motor
mas grande. Sumele a ese nQmero los vatios de
funcionamiento de todas las otras cargas conectadas.

ayudarle a determinar cuando elementos puede operar su

El mantenimiento del generador consiste en mantener la
unidad limpia y seca. Opere y almacene la unidad en un
ambiente limpio y seco donde no vaya a estar expuesta a
excesos de polvo, suciedad, humedad o a vapores
corrosivos. Las ranuras para aire de enfriamiento del
generador deben permanecer despejadas, sin acumulaci6n
de nieve, hojas u objetos extrafios.

RECOMENDACIONES

Reemplace las partes del depurador si estan

Revise frecuentemente la limpieza del generador y limpielo
cuando elementos como polvo, suciedad, aceite, humedad o
substancias extrafias sean visibles sobre su superficie
exterior.
NOTA: No recomendamos el uso de mangueras de jardin
para limpiar el generador. El agua podria introducirse en el
sistema de combustible del motor y causar problemas.
Ademas, si el agua se introduce al generador a trav6s de
las ranuras para aire de enfriamiento, algo del agua quedara
retenida en los espacios vacios y grietas del aislamiento del
devanado del estator y rotor. La acumulaci6n de agua y
suciedad en los devanados internos del generador
disminuira eventualmente la resistencia del aislamiento de
estos devanados.

GENERALES

La garantia del generador no cubre los elementos que
hayan sido sujetos al abuso o negligencia del operador.
Para recibir el valor completo de la garantia, el operador
debera mantener el generador de la forma descrita en este
manual.
Se deberan Ilevar a cabo algunos ajustes peri6dicamente
para mantener correctamente su generador.
NOTA: El inflado apropiado de la Ilanta la distancia que
opera debe ser 15-40 PSI.

Para Limpiar el Generador:
•

Utilice un trapo h6medo para limpiar las superficies
exteriores.

•

Puede usar un cepillo de cerdas suaves para retirar la
suciedad endurecida, aceite, etc.

•

Reemplace la bujia si los electrodos estan picados,
quemados o si la porcelana esta rota. Para su
reemplazo, 6nicamente utilice Champion RC12YC o una
de tipo equivalente.

•

Revise la separaci6n del electrodo con un calibrador de
alambre y ajuste la separaci6n a 0.030 pulgadas
(0.76mm) si es necesario.

Mariposa

Cambie la bujia cada 100 horas de operaci6n o una vez al
aSo, Io que suceda primero. Esto ayudara a su motor a

Para evitar problemas del motor, el sistema de combustible
debera desocuparse antes de un almacenamiento de

Retire la bujia y rocie aproximadamente 1 onza (30 ml)
de aceite para motor limpio dentro del cilindro.

Generador

Es importante evitar que se formen dep6sitos de goma en
las partes esenciales del sistema de combustible, como el
carburador, filtro de combustible, manguera o tanque de
combustible, durante el almacenamiento. Tambi6n, la
experiencia indica que los combustibles con mezclas de
alcohol (llamados gasohol, etanol o metanol) pueden atraer
humedad, la cual Ileva a la separaci6n y formaci6n de
acidos durante el almacenamiento. El gas acido puede
daSar el sistema de combustible de un motor durante su
almacenamiento.

Products Co. garantizara el sistema de control de emisiones
de su motor para equipo de servicio, c6sped y jardin por el
periodo de tiempo listado a continuaci6n, con tal de que
dicho equipo no haya sido sometido a abuso, abandono,
modificaciones no aprobadas o mantenimiento incorrecto.

Usted es responsable de presentar su motor para equipo de
servicio, c6sped o jardin a un Centro de Servicio Tecumseh
autorizado (cualquier Proveedor de Servicio Registrado
Tecumseh, Distribuidor de Servicio Autorizado Tecumseh o
Distribuidor de Bodega Central Tecumseh) tan pronto como
el problema aparezca. Las reparaciones de garantia
deberan ser terminadas en un periodo de tiempo razonable
sin exceder 30 dias.

Su sistema de control de emisiones puede incluir pares
como el carburador, sistema de encendido y sistema de
escape. Tambi6n puede estar incluido el sistema de
eliminaci6n de compresi6n y otras partes relacionadas con
las emisiones.

Esta declaraci6n de garantia le explica sus derechos y
obligaciones contenidos en la Garantia del Control de
Emisiones ("Garantia ECS"), la cual es proporcionada por
Tecumseh Products Co. segQn las leyes de California.
Tecumseh Products Co. tambi6n proporciona a los

Cubrimiento
de la Garantia del Sistema
Control de Emisiones del Fabricante

Los sistemas de control de emisiones de los motores para
equipo de servicio, c6sped y jardin de California modelo
1995 y posteriores estan garantizados por dos afios segt_n
Io establecido mas adelante en este documento. En otros
estados, los motores aSos 1997 y posteriores tambi6n estan
garantizados por dos aSos. Si durante dicho periodo de
garantia, cualquiera de las partes de su motor relacionadas
con las emisiones es defectuosa en material o mano de

venta al comprador original. El comprador pagara los cargos

mantenimiento programado.

Garantia del Sistema de Control de Emisiones ("Garantia ECS")

modelos 1997 y posteriores):

A. Aplicabilidad: Esta garantia se aplicar_ a los motores para
equipo de servicio, c6sped y jardin aSos 1995 y posteriores del
estado de California (para otros estados, motores modelos
1997 y posteriores). El periodo de la Garantia ECS comenzar_
en la fecha en que el equipo o motor nuevo es entregado al
comprador final original y continuara por 24 meses
consecutivos a partir de ese momento.

5. AI propietario no se le cobrar& por trabajo diagn6stico que
Ileve a la conclusi6n de que una parte cubierta por la
Garantia ECS es en realidad defectuosa, con tal de que
dicho trabajo diagn6stico sea Ilevado a cabo en un Centro
de Servicio Autorizado Tecumseh.
6. Tecumseh Products Co. ser_ responsable por daSos a otros
componentes del motor original o modificaciones
aprobadas, causados por una falla bajo garantia de una
parte relacionada con las emisiones cubierta por la Garantia
ECS.

B. Cubrimiento General de la Garantia de Emisiones:
Tecumseh Products Co., garantiza al comprador original final
del equipo o motor nuevo, y a cada comprador subsecuente,
que cada uno de sus motores para equipo de servicio, c6sped y
jardin est,:

7. Durante el periodo de la Garantia ECS, Tecumseh Products
Co. mantendr_ un suministro de partes garantizadas
relacionadas con las emisiones, suficientemente completo
como para satisfacer la demanda esperada para dichas
partes.

leyes aplicables establecidas por la Junta Directiva de
Recursos del Aire de acuerdo a su autoridad en los
Capitulos 1 y 2, Parte 5, Divisi6n 26 del C6digo de Salud y

aprobado, relacionado con las emisiones, puede ser usado
en el cumplimiento de cualquier mantenimiento o reparaci6n
de Garantia ECS y ser_ proporcionado sin cargo alguno
para el propietario. Dicho uso no disminuir& las obligaciones
de Garantia ECS de Tecumseh Products Co..

2. Libre de defectos en material y mano de obra que, en
cualquier momento durante el periodo de la Garantia ECS,
causen que una parte garantizada relacionada con las
emisiones no sea id6ntica en material con respecto a la
parte descrita en la aplicaci6n para certificaci6n del
fabricante del motor.

9. Las partes modificadas o adiciones no aprobadas no podr_n
ser usadas para modificar o reparar un motor de Tecumseh
Products Co.. Dicha pr&ctica cancela esta Garantia ECS y
ser_ motivo suficiente para denegar un Reclamo de
Garantia ECS. Tecumseh Products Co. no ser_
responsable por fallas de pares garantizadas de un motor
de Tecumseh Products Co. causadas por el uso de dichas
partes modificadas o adiciones no aprobadas.

C. La Garantia ECS tan solo hace referencia alas partes de
su motor relacionadas con emisiones de la siguiente manera:
1. Cualquier parte garantizada, relacionada con emisiones,
que no est6 programada para reemplazo segQn la secci6n
de mantenimiento del Manual del Propietario, estar_
garantizada durante el Periodo de la Garantia ECS. Si
cualquiera de dichas pares falla durante el Periodo de la
Garantia ECS, la parte ser_ reparada o reemplazada por
Tecumseh Products Co., de acuerdo a la Subsecci6n 4
descrita mas adelante.
