Wear sturdy, rough-soledwork shoesandclose-fittingslacksand shirts.
Loosefitting clothesor jewelry can be caughtin movableparts. Never
operate this machinein barefeet or sandals.Wear leatherwork gloves
when feedingmaterialinthe chipperchute.
Beforestarting,check all bolts andscrewsfor proper tightnessto be
sure the machineis in safe workingcondition.Also, visuallyinspect
machinefor any damageatfrequentintervals.

Allowthe impellerto cometo a completestop. Disconnectthe spark plug
wire, groundit againstthe engine and performthe followingsteps:
1.Inspectfor damage.
2. Repairor replaceanydamagedparts.
3. Checkfor any loose partsandtighten to assurecontinuedsafe
operation.
Do not allowan accumulationof processedmaterialto build up inthe
dischargearea.This can preventproper dischargeand resultin kickback
of materialthrough the feed opening.
Do not attemptto shred or chip materiallargerthan specifiedon the
machineor in this manual.Personalinjury or machinedamagecould
result.
Neverattemptto unclogeither the feed intakeor dischargeopening
whilethe engineis running.Shutthe engineoff, waituntil all moving
parts havestopped,disconnectthe sparkplug wire andground it against
the engine beforeclearing debris.
Neveroperatewithoutchipperbagand dischargechute properly
attachedto the machine.Neveremptyor changechipperbagwhilethe
engine is running.Zipperedendof chipperbag mustbe keptclosed at all
times duringoperation.

c. Slide hopperassemblyontoweldstudsand replacewashers
and hexnuts.Do nottighten completely.

and insert hex boltwith spacerthroughhingeon chute
deflector(spacersfit insideof hinges).See Figure4.
b. Placesecondspaceroverhex bolt insideotherhinge and
securewith hex lock nut.

wingknobs previouslyremoved.

studsaroundthe openingon the sideof the impellerhousing.

holeson the upperend of the supportbrace.

a. Align the chipperchute overthe weldstuds,so the slot in the
bottomof the chute isfacing down.See Figure6.
b. Securechipperchute withthe threecuppedwashers(cupped
side againstthechipperchute)and hexnuts previously
removed.Do nottightenthe nutsat this time.
The chippershredderwas shippedwith one end of the support
bracealreadysecuredto the lowerframe.Loosenbutdo not
removethe boltssecuringthe braceto the frame.
a. Align the holesin thechute with the holesin the top of the
braceand attachbraceto chipperchutewith hardware
previouslyremoved.Tightensecurely.See Figure7.
b. Tightenthe bolts securingthe supportbraceto the frame.
c. Tighten thethree nutson the weldstudsholdingthe chipper
chute to the impellerhousing.

This levercontrolsthe enginespeedand stop function.Throughthree
separatepositionson the leverfrom left to right, the operationis as

Allowleavesand smallbranchesup to 1/2diameterto be fed intothe
impellerfor chippingand shredding.Materialcan be rakedintohopper
assemblyby loweringthe hopperassembly.See Figure9.

RELEASE

The operationof anychippershreddercanresult in foreignobjects
being thrownintothe eyes,whichcan damageyoureyesseverely.
Alwayswearthe safetyglassesprovidedwith this unitor eye shields
beforechippingor shreddingand while performingany adjustments
or repairs.

Althoughmulti-viscosityoils (5W30,10W30,etc.)improvestarting
in cold weather,they will result in increasedoil consumptionwhen
usedabove32°R Checkyour engineoil levelmorefrequentlyto avoid
possibleenginedamagefrom runninglowon oil.
1. Checktheoil levelmakingcertain notto rub the dipstickalong the
insidewallsof the oil fill tube.This would resultin a false dipstick
reading.Refill to FULLmarkon dipstick,if necessary.Capacity
is approximately18 oz. Overfillingwill causethe engineto smoke
profuselyandwill resultin poorengine performance.

Replaceoil fill dipstickand tighten.
Keepoil levelat FULL.Runningthe enginewith too little oil can
result in permanentenginedamage.

NOTE:Checkthe fuel levelperiodicallyto avoidrunningout of gasoline whileoperatingthechippershredder.If the unitruns outof gas as
it is chipping,it may be necessaryto unclogthedischargeareabefore
it can be restarted.Referto SERVICEANDADJUSTMENTsection.

Gasoline
Removefuel cap from thefuel tank.

Makesurethe containerfrom which youwill pour the gasolineis
cleanand freefrom rust or foreignparticles.Neveruse gasoline
that may be stale from long periodsof storagein its container.
Gasolinethat hasbeen sittingfor any periodlongerthan four
weeksshouldbe consideredstale.

Toavoidengineproblems,thefuel systemshouldbe emptiedbefore
storagefor 30 days or longer.Drainthe gas tank,start the engine
and let it run untilthe fuel linesand carburetorare empty.Use
fresh fuelnext season.See STORAGEInstructionsfor additional
information.

Neveruse engineor carburetorcleanerproductsin the fuel tank or
permanentdamagemayoccur.

Useextremecare whenhandlinggasoline.Gasolineis extremely
flammableand the vaporsare explosive.Neverfuel machineindoors
or whilethe engineis hotor running.Extinguishcigarettes,cigars,
pipes,and othersourcesof ignition.

Use Alcoholblendedfuels (calledgasoholor usingethanolor methanol) can attract moisturewhich leadsto separationand formationof
acids duringstorage.Acidic gascan damagethe fuelsystemof an
enginewhile in storage.

TO START ENGINE

Fill fueltank with clean,fresh, unleadedregulargasolineonly.Do
not usegasolinecontainingMETHANOL.Replacefuelcap.

NOTE:A noisewillbe heardwhenfindingthestart of the compression
cycle.This noiseis caused bythe flails and fingers,which are part of
the shreddingmechanism,and it shouldbe expecteduntilthe impeller
reachesfull speed.

Air index information On Your Engine Emissions Label
Engines that are certified to meet the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Tier 2 Emission Standards must
display information regarding the Emissions Durability Period and the Air Index. Sears, Roebuck and Co., U.S.A.
makes this information available to the consumer on our emission labels.
The Emissions Durability Period describes the number of hours of actual running time for which the engine is
certified to be emissions compliant, assuming proper maintenance in accordance with the Operating & Maintenance instructions. The following categories are used:
Moderate:

EL MOTOR

EL MONTAJE

DE LA TOLVA

Con una manotome la manijaque se encuentraen la parte
superiordel montajede la tolvay lev_mtelalevemente.
Con la otra manotire haciaafuerade la varillade liberaci6ny
baje el montajede la tolva hastael piso. Vea la Figura10.

COMO DESCARGAR

LA BOLSA

Sueltela cuerdade extraccidny afloje la bolsade la aberturadel
canaldeflector.

El desechoque se acumulaen los patioscomo por ejemplolas hojas
y las agujasde los pinospuede sercolocadoen la tolvapara triturarlo.
Despuesde procesarel materialcon la cuchillade la trituradoray
de desgranar,es empujadofueradel deflectordel canaly, si est,.
instalada,haciael interiorde la bolsade recolecci6nde desechos.

Vaciela bolsay vuelvaa colocarlaen la aberturadel canalde
descarga.Tirede la cuerdahastaque la bolsaeste ajustada
alrededorde la aberturadel canal y sujetela cuerdaapret_mdola
contra el canaldeflector.

Respetelas siguientespautascuandotrituredesechosque se
acumulanen lospatios:

Coloquecantidadesrazonablesde desechosen la tolvapor vez.
No sobrecarguela tolva.
