PREPARATION

•Thoroughlyinspectthe areawherethe equipmentisto be used. Remove

all rocks,bottles,cans, orotherforeignobjectswhichcould bepickedup

or thrownandcausepersonalinjuryor damageto the machine.

,, Alwayswearsafetyglassesorsafetygogglesduringoperationor while

performinganadjustmentor repair,to protecteyes.Thrownobjects

which ricochetcan causeserious injuryto the eyes.

•Wearsturdy,rough-soledworkshoesandclose-fittingslacksand shirts.

Loosefitting clothesorjewelry canbe caughtin movableparts. Never

operatethis machinein barefeet or sandals.Wearleatherwork gloves

whenfeedingmaterialinthe chipperchute.

•Beforestarting,checkall boltsandscrewsfor propertightnessto be

sure the machineisin safeworkingcondition.Also,visuallyinspect

machinefor any damageatfrequentintervals.

•Maintainor replacesafetyand instructionslabels,as necessary.

•To avoidpersonalinjuryor propertydamageuse extremecare in

handlinggasoline.Gasolineisextremelyflammableandthevaporsare

explosive.Seriouspersonalinjurycan occur whengasolineis spilled on

yourselforyour clotheswhichcanignite.Washyour skinandchange

clothesimmediately.

•Useonly an approvedgasolinecontainer.

•Extinguishall cigarettes,cigars,pipes,and othersourcesof ignition.

•Neverfuel machineindoors.

•Neverremovegascapor addfuelwhilethe engineis hot or running.

•Allowengineto cool at leasttwo minutesbefore refueling.

•Neveroverfill fuel tank. Filltankto no morethan 1/2inch belowbottom

of filler neckto providespacefor fuel expansion.

•If gasolineis spilled,wipeit offthe engineandequipment.Move

machineto anotherarea.Wait5 minutesbeforestartingthe engine.

•Neverstore the machineorfuelcontainerinsidewherethere isan open

clothesdryer,etc.).

OPERATION

. Do notputhandsandfeet nearrotatingparts or inthe feedingchambers

anddischargeopening.Contactwiththe rotatingimpellercanamputate

fingers,hands,and feet.

,, Beforestartingthe machine,makesurethe chipperchute,feed intake,

andcutting chamberare empty andfree of all debris.

,, Thoroughlyinspectall materialto beshreddedandremoveany metal,

rocks,bottles,cans,or otherforeignobjectswhichcouldcause personal

injuryor damageto the machine.

,, If it becomesnecessaryto push materialthroughthe shredderhopper,

use a small diameterstick. Donotuse your handsor feet.

,, If the impellerstrikesaforeign objector if your machineshould start

makingan unusualnoiseorvibration,immediatelyshutthe engineoff.

Allowthe impellerto cometo a completestop. Disconnectthespark plug

wire,groundit againsttheengineand performthefollowingsteps:

1.Inspectfor damage.

2. Repairor replaceanydamagedparts.

3. Checkfor any loosepartsandtighten to assurecontinuedsafe

operation.

. Do notallowanaccumulationof processedmaterialto build upinthe

dischargearea.This canpreventproperdischargeand resultin kickback

of materialthroughthefeed opening.

,, Do notattemptto shredor chip materiallargerthan specifiedon the

machineor in this manual.Personalinjuryor machinedamagecould

result.

,, Neverattemptto unclogeitherthefeed intakeor dischargeopening

whilethe engineis running.Shutthe engineoff, waituntil all moving

parts havestopped,disconnectthe sparkplugwire andgrounditagainst

theenginebeforeclearingdebris.

,, Neveroperatewithoutchipperbagand dischargechute properly

attachedto the machine.Neveremptyor changechipperbagwhilethe

engineis running.Zipperedendof chipperbag mustbe keptclosedat all

at unsafespeeds.Nevertamperwithfactorysettingof enginegovernor.

TO AVOID SERIOUS iNJURY:

Do not operate on uneven ground where unit is

unstable. Do not operate on pavement, gravel or

other hard surfaces since objects can ricochet

and cause injury.

To avoid a fire hazard, keep leaves, grass, and other

combustible materials away from hot engine and

muffler.

Keep children and others away from area of

operation.

Wear approved safety glasses, gloves and ear

protection.

ROTATING CUTTING BLADES.

TO AVOID SERIOUS INJURY:

• Read the owner's manual(s) before starting and

using unit.

Keep all shields and guards in place and securely

attached.

Keep hands, feet, face, clothing and long hair out of

Shredder Hopper, Chipper Chute and Discharge

Chute while the engine is running. Rotating cutting

blades inside these openings will cause serious

personal injury if contacted. Material being

_rocessed

may bounce back from inlet openings or be thrown

from the discharge chute. Long hair or loose clothing

may be pulled sucked into the inlet openings.

.Do not place branches over 1/2 inch diameter into

the large Shredder Hopper. Branches over I/2 inch in

diameter should be placed in the Small Chipper

Chute.

.If the chipped shredder jams or becomes clogged,

immediately shut off the engine and wait for all

moving parts to come to a complete stop before

clearing.

.Do not install remove, adjust, or service the

discharge screen or any other part while the engine

is running. Blade contact can occur.

KEEP HANDS AND FEET OUT

OF OPENINGSWHILE MACHINE

IS RUNNING.

HASBEEN PROPERLYINSTALLED.

IMPORTANT:Thisunit is shippedwithoutgasolineoroil in theengine.

Becertainto serviceenginewithgasolineandoil as instructedinthe

separateenginemanualbeforeoperatingyourmachine.

observedfromthe operatingposition.

OPENING CARTON

1. Cuteachcornerof the cartonverticallyfromtopto bottom.

2. Removeall looseparts.

3. Removeloosepackingmaterial.

REMOVING UNiT FROM CARTON

1. Liftunit fromthe rearto detachit fromunderlyingcartonmaterial

androll unitout of carton.

2. Checkcartonthoroughlyfor anyother looseparts.

1. a. Removesixhex nutsand washersfromthe weldstudson the

impellerhousing.Do notremovesupportplate.SeeFigure1.

b. Placehopperassemblyintopositioninfrontof impeller

housing,aligningholesinhopperassemblycollarwithweld

studs.

c. Slidehopperassemblyontoweldstudsand replacewashers

and hexnuts.Do nottightencompletely.

2. a. Lift hopperassemblyup to impellerbracketassembly.

b. Slidethe releaserodout slightlyto hookthe hopperbracket

ontothe rod. SeeFigure2.

c.Tightenthesix hexnutsthatsecurehopperassemblyto

impellerhousingandalsotightenthe hex nutsthatsecure

ATTACHING THE CHUTE DEFLECTOR

1. a. Removethewing knobsfromeachside of the lowerimpeller

housing.SeeFigure3.

b. Removethe hexlocknut,spacers,andhexbolt fromthe topof

the impellerhousing.

2. a. Alignthe chutedeflectorinpositiononthe dischargeopening

andinserthex boltwithspacerthroughhingeon chute

deflector(spacersfit insideof hinges).SeeFigure4.

b. Removethe hexbolts,flatwashers,andlocknutsfromthetwo

holeson the upperendof the supportbrace.

a. Alignthe chipperchuteoverthe weldstuds,so the slotin the

bottomof the chuteisfacingdown.SeeFigure6.

b. Securechipperchutewiththe threecuppedwashers(cupped

side againstthechipperchute)and hexnutspreviously

removed.Do nottightenthe nutsat thistime.

The chippershredderwasshippedwithoneendof the support

bracealreadysecuredto the lowerframe.Loosenbutdo not

removethe boltssecuringthe braceto the frame.

a. Alignthe holesin thechutewiththe holesinthe top of the

braceandattachbraceto chipperchutewithhardware

previouslyremoved.Tightensecurely.SeeFigure7.

b. Tightenthe boltssecuringthe supportbraceto the frame.

c.Tightenthethree nutson the weldstudsholdingthe chipper

chuteto the impellerhousing.

ATTACHING THE BAG

1. Toattachthe bag:

a. Placethe openingof the bagcompletelyoverthe chute

deflector.

b. Pullon thedrawstringuntilthe bagis tightaroundchute

deflectoropening.

c. Clipdrawstringbackon itself,tightagainstchutedeflectorto

secureintoposition.SeeFigure8.

CHIPPER CHUTE

Allowstwigsandsmallbranchesupto 3" indiameterto befed into the

impellerfor chipping.SeeFigure9.

HOPPER ASSEMBLY

Allowleavesandsmallbranchesupto 1/2diameterto befed intothe

impellerfor chippingandshredding.Materialcan berakedintohopper

assemblyby loweringthe hopperassembly.SeeFigure9.

RELEASE ROD

The releaserodis locatedon the impellerbracketassemblyandit

is usedto releaseor lockthe hopperwhen raisingor lowering.See

Figure9.

CHUTE DEFLECTOR

The operationof anychippershreddercanresultinforeignobjects

beingthrownintothe eyes,whichcan damageyoureyesseverely.

Alwayswearthe safetyglassesprovidedwiththisunitor eye shields

beforechippingor shreddingandwhile performingany adjustments

or repairs.

THROTTLE CONTROL

Thislevercontrolsthe enginespeedandstopfunction.Throughthree

separatepositionsonthe leverfromleftto right,the operationis as

follows:

Start/Run Slow/Idle Engine Off

CHOKE CONTROL

The chokecontrolis usedto chokethe carburetorandassistinstarting

the engine.

Chippedandshreddeddebrisis dischargedout the chutedeflector.

The unitmaybeoperatedwithorwithoutthe collectionbagattachedto STARTER HANDLE

the chutedeflector.SeeFigure9. Usedto start theengine.

GAS AND OIL FILL=UP

FirstTimeUse

1. Removeoil fill dipstick.

2. Withthechippershredderon levelground,usea funnelto empty

entirecontentsof oil bottleprovidedintothe engine.

3. Replaceoil fill dipstickandtighten.

Subsequent Uses

Onlyuse highqualitydetergentoil ratedwithAPIserviceclassification

SF,SG,or SH.Selectthe oil's SAEviscositygradeaccordingto the

expectedoperatingtemperature.Followthe chartbelow.

Althoughmulti-viscosityoils (5W30,10W30,etc.)improvestarting

incold weather,theywill resultinincreasedoil consumptionwhen

usedabove32°R Checkyour engineoil levelmorefrequentlyto avoid

possibleenginedamagefromrunninglowon oil.

1. Checktheoil levelmakingcertainnotto rubthe dipstickalongthe

insidewallsof the oil fill tube.Thiswould resultina falsedipstick

reading.Refillto FULLmarkon dipstick,if necessary.Capacity

is approximately18oz.Overfillingwill causethe engineto smoke

profuselyandwill resultin poorengineperformance.

2. Replaceoil fill dipstickandtighten.

3. Keepoil levelat FULL.Runningthe enginewithtoo littleoilcan

resultinpermanentenginedamage.

Useextremecare whenhandlinggasoline.Gasolineis extremely

flammableandthe vaporsareexplosive.Neverfuel machineindoors

or whilethe engineis hotor running.Extinguishcigarettes,cigars,

pipes,andothersourcesof ignition.

Gasoline

1. Removefuel cap fromthefuel tank.

2. Makesurethe containerfromwhichyouwill pourthe gasolineis

cleanandfreefromrustor foreignparticles.Neveruse gasoline

thatmaybestalefromlongperiodsof storagein itscontainer.

Gasolinethathasbeensittingfor any periodlongerthan four

weeksshouldbe consideredstale.

3. Fill fueltankwithclean,fresh, unleadedregulargasolineonly.Do

not usegasolinecontainingMETHANOL.Replacefuelcap.

UseAlcoholblendedfuels(calledgasoholor usingethanolormetha-

nol)can attractmoisturewhichleadsto separationandformationof

acidsduringstorage.Acidicgascan damagethe fuelsystemof an

enginewhile instorage.

Toavoidengineproblems,thefuel systemshouldbe emptiedbefore

storagefor 30daysorlonger.Drainthe gas tank,start the engine

andlet it rununtilthe fuel linesandcarburetorareempty.Use

freshfuelnextseason.SeeSTORAGEInstructionsfor additional

information.

Neveruse engineorcarburetorcleanerproductsinthe fuel tankor I

permanentdamagemayoccur.

NOTE:Checkthe fuel levelperiodicallyto avoidrunningout of gaso-

linewhileoperatingthechippershredder.Ifthe unitruns outof gas as

it is chipping,it maybenecessaryto unclogthedischargeareabefore

it can berestarted.Referto SERVICEANDADJUSTMENTsection.

TO START ENGINE

1. Attachsparkplugwireandrubberboot to sparkplug.

2. Gastankshouldbefilled3/4 to full beforestarting.

3. Movethe chokeleveronthe engineto CHOKEposition.I'_1

(Awarmenginemaynotrequirechoking.)SeeFigure10.

4. Movethrottlecontrolto START/RUN(Rabbit)position.

6. Pullthe ropewitha rapid,continuous,full arm stroke.Keepa firm

grip onthe starterhandle.Letthe roperewindslowly.

7. Repeat,if necessary,until enginestarts.When enginestarts,

movechokecontrolgraduallyawayfromthethrottlecontrol.

8. Ifenginefalters,movechokecontrolbacktowardthethrottle

controlandrepeatsteps5 through7.

9. ALWAYSkeepthe throttlecontrolin the START/RUN_11

TO STOP ENGINE

1. Movethrottlecontrolleverto slow(turtle)'_ position.

3. Disconnectsparkplugwireandgroundit to the retainingpostto

SHREDDING

Yardwastesuchas leavesandpineneedlescan be placedinthe

hopperfor shredding.Aftermaterialhas beenprocessedby the shred-

derbladeandflails,it will beforcedoutof thechutedeflector,and,if

attached,intoa debriscollectionbag.

Observethe followingguidelineswhenshreddingyarddebris:

LOWERING THE HOPPER ASSEMBLY

1. Withone handgraspthe handleat the top ofthe hopperassem-

bly and liftslightly.

2. Withthe otherhandpullout onthe releaserodand lowerthe

hopperassemblyto the ground.SeeFigure10.

4. Reinstallthe screen,makingcertainto reassembletheflail screen

withthe curveside down.

5. Reattachthe chutedeflectorwiththe hardwarepreviouslyremoved

andconnectthe bagto unit.

1. Disconnectthe sparkplugwireandgroundagainstthe engine.

2. Removethe flail screenas instructedinthe previoussection.

mustbe designed,builtand equippedto meettheState'sstringentanti-smog

standards.Elsewhereinthe UnitedStates, newnon-road,spark-ignition

enginescertifiedfor modelyear 1997and latermustmeetsimilarstandardsset

forthbythe U.S.EPA.Searsmustwarranttheemissioncontrolsystemon your

enginefor the periodsof timelistedbelow,providedtherehasbeenno abuse,

neglector impropermaintenanceof your smalloff-roadengine.Youremis-

sion controlsystemincludespartssuch as thecarburetor,air cleaner,ignition

system,mufflerand catalyticconverter.Also includedmaybeconnectorsand

otheremissionrelatedassemblies.Wherea warrantableconditionexists,Sears

will repairyour smalloff-roadengine at nocost to you includingdiagnosis,parts

and labor.

Sears Emission Control Defects Warranty Coverage

Smalloff-roadenginesarewarrantedrelativeto emissioncontrolpartsdefects

fora periodof oneyear,subjectto provisionsset forth below,Ifany covered

lackof receiptsorfor yourfailureto ensuretheperformanceof allscheduled

awarethat Sears maydenyyouwarrantycoverageif your smalloff-roadengine

ora part hasfaileddueto abuse,neglect,impropermaintenanceor unap-

yearfromthe datethe engineis deliveredto a retailpurchaser.

3. NoCharge

Repairor replacementof any WarrantedPartwill be performedat no

chargeto the owner,includingdiagnosticlabor whichleadsto the

determinationthata WarrantedPartis defective,ifthe diagnosticwork is

performedat an AuthorizedSears ServiceDealer.For emissionswarranty

servicecontact your nearestAuthorizedSears ServiceDealeras listed in

the "YellowPages"under"Engines,Gasoline,""GasolineEngines,""Lawn

Mowers,"or similarcategory.

4. Claimsand CoverageExclusions

Warrantyclaimsshall befiled in accordancewiththe provisionsofthe

SearsEngineWarrantyPolicy.Warrantycoverageshall beexcludedfor

failures of WarrantedPartswhichare not originalSears parts or because

of abuse,neglector impropermaintenanceas setforth in theSears

EngineWarrantyPolicy.Searsis notliable to coverfailuresof Warranted

Partscausedby the useof add-on,non-original,or modifiedparts.

5. Maintenance

AnyWarrantedPartwhich is notscheduledfor replacementas required

maintenanceor which is scheduledonly for regularinspectionto the effect

of "repairor replaceas necessary"shall bewarrantedas to defectsfor the

warrantyperiod.Any WarrantedPartwhich is scheduledfor replacement

as requiredmaintenanceshallbe warrantedasto defectsonly for the

periodof time upto the first scheduledreplacementforthat part. Any

replacementpartthat is equivalentin performanceand durabilitymay

be usedin the performanceof anymaintenanceor repairs.The owneris

responsibleforthe performanceof all requiredmaintenance,as definedin

the SearsOperatingandMaintenanceInstructions.

6. ConsequentialCoverage

Coveragehereundershallextend to thefailure of any enginecomponents

caused bythefailureof anyWarrantedPartstill underwarranty.

Look For Relevant Emissions Durability Period and

Air index information On Your Engine Emissions Label

Engines that are certified to meet the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Tier 2 Emission Standards must

display information regarding the Emissions Durability Period and the Air Index. Sears, Roebuck and Co., U.S.A.

makes this information available to the consumer on our emission labels.

The Emissions Durability Period describes the number of hours of actual running time for which the engine is

certified to be emissions compliant, assuming proper maintenance in accordance with the Operating & Mainte-

nance instructions. The following categories are used:

Moderate: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 125 hours of actual engine running time.

intermediate: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 250 hours of actual engine running time.

Extended: Engine is certified to be emission compliant for 500 hours of actual engine running time.

For example, a typical walk-behind lawn mower is used 20 to 25 hours per year. Therefore, the Emissions

Durability Period of an engine with an intermediate rating would equate to 10 to 12 years.

The Air index is a calculated number describing the relative level of emissions for a specific engine family. The

lower the Air index, the cleaner the engine. This information is displayed in graphical form on the emissions label.

After July 1,2000, Look For Emissions Compliance Period

On Engine Emissions Compliance Label

After July 1, 2000 certain Sears, Roebuck and Co., U.S.A. engines will be certified to meet the United States

Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) Phase 2 emission standards. For Phase 2 certified engines, the Emis-

sions Compliance Period referred to on the Emissions Compliance label indicates the number of operating hours

for which the engine has been shown to meet Federal emission requirements.

For engines less than 225 cc displacement, Category C = 125 hours, B = 250 hours and A = 500 hours.

For engines of 225 cc or more, Category C = 250 hours, B = 500 hours and A = 1000 hours.

This is a generic representationof the emission labeltypically found on a certified engine.

Busque el periodo de duracion de emisiones importantes yla informaci6n de clasificacion de aire en

la etiqueta de emisiones de su motor

Los motores cuyo cumplimiento con los est&ndares de emisi6n Tier 2 de la Comisi6n de Recursos Ambientales de California (CARB)

est6 certificado deben exhibir la informaci6n relacionada con el periodo de duraci6n de las emisiones y la clasificaci6n de aire. Sears,

Roebuck and Co., de los Estados Unidos ponen esta informaci6n a disposici6n del consumidor en nuestras etiquetas de emisiones.

El Pedodo de Duraci6n de las Emisiones describe el nQmero de horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento para el cual se certifica que

el motor cumple con las reglas de emisi6n, descontando el mantenimiento adecuado del mismo segQn las instrucciones de oper-

aci6n y mantenimiento. Se utilizan las siguientes categodas:

Moderado:Se certifica que el motor cumple con las reglas de emisi6n durante 125 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento del motor.

Inmediato:Se certifica que el motor cumple con las reglas de emisi6n durante 250 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento del motor.

Extendido:Se certifica que el motor cumple con las reglas de emisi6n durante 500 horas de tiempo real de funcionamiento del motor.

Por ejemplo, una cortadora de c6sped tipica que se empuja desde atr&s se usa entre 20 y 25 horas por afio. Por Io tanto, el Per{odo

de Duraci6n de Emisiones de un motor con una clasificaci6n intermedia seria equivalente aentre 10y 12 afios.

Laclasificaci6n de aire es un nQmero calculado para describir el nivel relativo de emisiones para un grupo de motores en particular.

Cuanto menor sea la clasificaci6n de aire, mayor es la limpieza del motor. La informaci6n se presenta de forma gr&fica en la etiqueta

de emisiones.

Despu_s del 1 de julio de 2000, busque el per{odo de cumplimiento de las reglas de

emisiones en la etiqueta de cumplimiento de las reglas de emisiones del motor

Despu6s del I de julio de 2000 se certificar& que determinados motores Sears, Roebuck and Co., de los Estados Unidos

cumplen con los est&ndares de emisiones de la fase 2 de la Agencia de Protecci6n Ambiental de los Estados Unidos (USE-

PA). Para los motores certificados para la etapa 2, el periodo de cumplimiento con las reglas de emisiones al cual se hace

referencia en la etiqueta de cumplimiento con las reglas de emisiones indica el n_mero de horas de funcionamiento para el

cual se ha demostrado que el motor cumple con los requerimientos federales de emisi6n.

Para los motores con desplazamiento inferior a 225 cc, Categoria C = 125 horas, B = 250 horas y A = 500 horas.

Para los motores con desplazamiento de 225 cc o re&s, Categoria C = 250 horas, B = 500 horas y A = 1000 horas.

El desplazamiento de los motores de la serie modelo 150112 es 249 cc.
