2.1 Where to locate your Refrigerator
The Refrigeratormustbe inst_lledon a fiatand levelfloor,
away from direct sunlight and from any objectwhich may

2. First Steps

2.2 Door Hinging

5/16" nut driver.
• RemovelargeRefrigeratordoor.

Ihe gas supplysystem be led from twogas cylinders,with
an automaticsw[tchoverdevice,The specilied luel is
propane and the supplypressure mustbe 11 inches
(280ram)watercolumn.The Refrigeratormusl be
connectedwithcopper orotheracceptabletubingof
sufficientdiameterto avoid a pressuredrop of morethan
one inch(25 ram)watergaugeup to the Refrigerator
inlet,
even with ether gas-operatedappriances(such as heaters,
and the like) operatingfrom the same system.
• The applianceand itsindividualshutoilvalvemust be
disconnectedfrom the gas supply pipingsystem during
anypressuretestingof Ihat systemat lest pressures[n
excessof 1/2psig (3,5 kPa).
• The appliancemusl be isolated from _e gassupply
pipingsyslem by closingils individual
manualshut off
valveduringany pressurelest[ngof Ihe gas supply
piping system at testpressuresequal to or less than 1/2
psig (3.5 kPa).

= From top felt of Refrigerator,remove3 hingeplasUcslot
capsend placethem talerightsideslots.
e Removedoorcaps and sealings.Placingthem _ck on
the oppositeside (lefUrightofviceversa).

To install the Refrigerator:
• If necessary,installa metal or woodpaneloverthe floor
as recommendedin item 2.!. (b).

• Laythe Refrigeratoron its back(coil side)to access Ihe
bottompanel area.

• Disassemblethe burner box (Dg).

• RemovegreypJezoignitor (C5),temperaturecontrol
(C2) and gascontrol(C3) knobs from whitebushings.

• Placethe Refrigeratorin ils definite position.Turn the
bolts
(B1) untilthe Refrigeraloris revel.Removeit again
from its location,

• Usingpliers,carefullybend and removesplit pinsfrom
whitebushings.Removebushingsfromcontro_
reds,
• Using1/4" nutdriver,remove screws(10) fromgrey
steel support panel.Pushsupped panel down to access
hinge placementarea.
• Prepareto reset rowerhinge on opposilesideby holding
ra_ support platewhilemounting lower hinge (F4) lo
cabinet.

• Connectthe gassupplyto the manualshut eft valve
(DI3). Use a certifiedflexible type metal connect_ of
sufficientlength.
• Connecta pressuregaugeat Ihe plug {G5) et the
conlrols,
Now checkthe operation:
• Operatethe Refrigeratoraccordingto the inslructions
(F6) and allowit to workfor at least30 minu_es.

• Fit Refrigerator
doorontolower hinge.
= Resetfelt middrehinge and plasticspacer(this _oartis
suppliedwithIhe Reltigeratorparts bag).

• Duringthis period, checkthe connections
for leaks,from
thegas inlet tothe orificespud,usinga detergentand
watersolution.

e Fit Freezerdooronto[eft middlehinge,
• SlandRefrigeratorbackup.

• Check_e readingof Iha pressuregauge. Withno other
gasappl[ar_ceoperatingit shouldnot passt1" water
gauge.With other appliancesoperatingit should notfail
berow10",

• Regulatedooralignmetto obtain pe,'fectsealing all
around magneticdoor sears.
• Replaceupperhingecap.

• Check theoperationof theflame-faireredeviceas
indicatedunder"reehnicalDescrip![on",

• Using pliers,removeplaslic portionfrom left side of
consoreto accomodateIc_verhinge (see fig. F). Area to
be removed [s outlinedon pleslJcinner sideof console.

• With a mirror(17) beneaththe fiamelube(14), make
sureIhat the flamecoloris b/ue.tt shouldnet reachthe
tip of the baffle (t5), which willnormallybe slightly
aglow,

• Real_ch console,checkingthe correct alignmenlof the
flame i_icalor rodon all supports.

• "rumoffthe gasat the control (C3) leavingthe manual
shut offvalve(Dr3) open.Replacetheptug(G5).
• Replacethe burner box (O8).

2.3 Installing the Refrigerator
ThisRelrigeratormustbe instaltedin accordancewith
total codesor installaUon
mustcomplywith:
• The National Fuel Gas Code,ANS Z223.1 in Ihe USA.

Check weather the flame [s centered in relation
to the heater pipe (chimney).
If it is not, turn the product off and call a service
agency. Do not run the Refrigerator under this
circumstance. See detail in figure 1+

Now inslallthe Refrigeratorin !.heselectedlocation:

• PlaceIha selectorknob(C3) to the openposition (C4)
bydepressingand thenturningit.

t Depress{C3) and hold itdepressedwhileactuating the
piezo-igniler(C5)a fewtimes or untilthe flame lights

3. Controls
NI controlsare placedon theconsolelocatedat Ihe basis
of Ihe Refrigeratorandare connectedto Shecontrol
devices locatedin the Re£igerator'sback.
(See lig. C and D).

When trying to light the flame, press the selector
valve buttonfor more than 10 seconds.

4. Gas Installation
oTha sparks canbe seenthroughthe lightconductor(C1)
whichwilllight up as soonas the burner goeson.
If there are no sparkssee under =Trouble-shooting".

Gas musl be suppliedby a 3/8" copperpipefree from
sharp-corner
curves,mounted on the conicalcoupling
connectedto the manual shutoff valve.

* Hold (C3) it depressedfor anotherfive seconds.
Then release,checkingthat flame stays on.

Thisfeed-pipemusl be placed so as to avoiddamage
whenthe Refrigeratoris removedfrom itscompartment.

If theflame goes out,repeatthe procedure,orconsult
item Trouble-shooting.

Whenconnecling
theRefrigeratorto the gas supply use
a pressurecontrolvalve in the propanegasbotle.
Neverconnectthepropanegas botlle directyto the
Refrigerator.

Nextday:setthe thermostat
knobto the defrost position
(C6) for at least five minutescheckingthat the flame
does not goout.
o Set the thermostatIo withinits normal range (C7).

5.2 Absorption Refrigerators are different,..

Use propane gas only. As propane gas ]s
h{ghlyflammable, it is extremely important to
check the effective sealing of all joints, from
bottle to Refrigerator.

Atselateror=,avoidpl_cingIon muchfoodin the
Refrigeratorat onetime:

After instalration, the gas supply must be
turned on and all pipe joints checked for
leakage, from propane gas bottle to the burner,
using s water/soap solution. Never use flame
to test for gas leakage.

• Store perishablesfirst, leavingotherfoodstuffsfor later,
• Store larger amounls preferablyin Ihe evening,notmore
than t0 ]bs(5 kilos) at a time.
,,Allowhot food to cool downbeforeplacingit in the
Refrigeralor,

Note:Any servicing
ofgas pipescan on_ be performed
by an authorizeddealer.Shouldyoudelect anyirregular
gaspressureor ins'_lla_ion,
contactyou deareror an
anther;zealworkshop.The owner must neverperformany
tasksthatrequire the looseningof gas pipes.

• Avoid keepingthe doorsopenfor morethan is strictly
necessary,

Do not storeflammable substances
such as gasolineand kerosenein
your Refrigeratorto avoid the risk of
explosionand fire.

5. Howto getthe bestout of your
Refrigerator
5,1 How to make it work (Fig, C)
(Lighting instructions)

Important

Wilh the Refrigeratorcorrectlyinstalls&gas supply
connectedand manualshut offva,]veopen,the following
mustbe doneto make it work:

• Duringnormatoperalingconditions,the thermostat(C2)
should be set withinthe segmentedrange {C10.On very
hotdays, or whenthe Refrigeratoris beingused
frequently,
sel the thermostatto the cotdeslpodion of
the range.

• Turnthe thermostatknob (C2)to the coldestsetting
{C8).

At room tempera|uresunder 60°F(16_0),there is a risk
thai the temperaturein Ihe main compartment
will drop
beJewfreezingpoFnt,even withthe Ihen'nostalat the
warmeslselting.

We recommenddefrosl[ngwhenever50 per centof the
spacebetween thefins is takenupby ice, Checkthe
upper portionolthe left hand fins, wherethe ice is
inclinedto celrectmore quickly.

5,3 How to make ice

To defrostyou do not haveto removefood from the main
compartmentorfrom theFreezeJ',
Simplyset Ihethermostal knob(C2) to the "defrost"
position(C6),and leaveit for a coupteofhours,
The Refrigeratorwillcontinueto workon a low flame Io
provideref_geralionfor the Freezer.
The ice on the finswill melt and run througha d_ain Io
the rear of the Refrigeralorand inlo a numberof small
container(D51whereit willevaporale.

The Refrigeratoris suppliedwiththree pPaslicice trays.
FIll thesewilhwater to no nlorethanthe brim of the
intemaFseparators.Arrangethebaysone besidetheolher
at the bottomof the frozen food compartment,
A little water spread overthe bottomwillimprove thermal
contactbetweenthe trays and the plate,
If you s_artthe freezingin the evening, therewillbe 3 lbs
(1,360 grams)of ice availablethe followingmorning,

5.4 Frozen food compartment
In addilion tomaking ice, youcan also slere frozen food in
the uppercompartment.How ]Gag foodcan be ,kept
without loss ofqualitydependson its nalure and on the
storagetemperature,
Thislemperatureis not [_tuenced by the thermoslal
setting, nor t_ythe use madeofthe maincompartrnenl.
Evenwiththe t_.ermostat
set to defresl,the tempemEure
willbe suilabte for I_.epreservationof frozenfood. The
temperaturedOesovary,
however,withroomtemperalure:
At upto 90°F(32 C) the compartmentwill maintain 0 F
(-18'C) or better and at I10°F (43"C1it willstillmaintain
15°F(-9°C).

frozen food is being slored in the compartment

of unfrozenfood.In this case,itcan handle up to 3 I_
{about 1.5 k_los)per24 hourperiod,at ambient
temperaturesup to 90°F(32°C).

Never useknives or sharp oblectsto remove the
ice layer. You may cause reakagein the ammonia
system.

if the evaporatoris heavily loadedwith ice,
defrostingmast not be done as explainedbefore,
since the capacity of the container(D5) is limited
to about one quart (one ffter) _zndthey might then
overflow.In this ease, follow the instructionsgiven
below,

5.6 Shutting down the Refrigerator (Fig. E)

=Allow any hot food to cooldownle roomtemperature
sale[de theRefrigeralor.

The absorplionRefrigerate(is built toworkconlinuously
for many years, ]-here ere no moving pa_ andthus no
friction.At times, however,it needsto be turnedoff:

• When at roomtemperalure,the food shouldbe placedin
the main compartmentof the_ef_igerator,to precoolfor
a few hours,

= When it willnotbe usedfor some time - for afew
weeksor mere.

=,L_leron,preferablyin Ihe evening,placethe food in
contactwith thebottomof Ihe upper compartmenl.

,* Whenthereis a large build-upof iceon the evaporator
or in thefrozen foodstoragecompartment.

5.5. Defrosting

In suoh cases, the following procedure is recommended:

Aftera lime ice willbegin to collecton the fins of the
evaporator(Et), to a pointwhere itwi!l reducethe
efficiencyel the Refrigertaton
This is whythe Refrigerator
needsto be defrostedperiodbatly.
The intervalbetween
Iwo delre_tingoperatFenscan vary considerably:
from one week tomere than a month,dependingon the
climateand the exlent towhich the Refrigeratoris used.

"Turn off Iha gas at the selector (C3) and remote aMthe
foodst_lfs,

• Remove all the toose componentsfrom the
Refrigerator, such as racks, drawers, etc.,
including the balteries for the lighting.

6.2 Combination control valve (Fig. G)

The conlrol has severalfunctions.The inlet (G2) carries
a gumfiller Io removecedaincontaminants
fromthe
gas.Alterthe lilter comesa se[eolorvalve withits shaft
(G3) withtwo positions:
openor closed.Usethis to turn
off the Refrigerator,since it is not enoughto turnthe
thermostat(G4)down !o the warmeslposition.

• Leave the deers open until aqlIhe ice has melted dc_,m
and then remove the container.

The melt-watertrom Ihe uppercompartment
is drained
down Ihrough(Ed) tothe drip pan.

Togetherwiththe selectorcomesthe flame-failure
dark>e,connectedby (GT)to the lhermocouple(H1) at
the burner.II the flame should go oulfor anyreason, Ibis
will cutoff the gassupplywithinaboul forty seconds,
prevenling
lurther amountsof unbumt gas from
escaping.

=Washthe componenls withwateranda mirddetergent
and then drythem.

and wipe it dry.

To tightIha burner, it is necessary to keep the gas supply
open manually, by depressing (G3), until the flame
ignite& Within 3 to 4 seconds, the frame will heat the
thermocouple (H1) enough Io bold the gas passage
open.

= Reassemblethe components,turningthedrippanto ils
normal position.
If the Refrigerator is net to be used for some length el
lime, _eave the doors ajar and d'o not reinstall the batteries
in the lighting assembly.

6.3. Testing the flame-failure

device (Fig. C)

The device is faiPsafe:any malfunction,such as poor
electdccontacl,etc., willcause it to close.Even so, it
mustbe checkedlor proper operationwhenthe
Relffgeralorisfirstinstalledand then periodically laler on
(see under" Periodic Maintenance"). The follczwingis to

6. Technicaldescription
Beforegoingintothe subjeels of maintenanceand
koubleshootiag,
we wouldlike to providea brief
descriptiononlhe fu_lional units ofthe gas equipment,
which willmake for a better understandingof these items.

a) Placethe Refrigeratorin operatlonwithIhe thermostat
set to the coldestposilion.

6.1 The gas equipment (Fig. D)
The gasconnector(D14) isconnectedto a manualshut
offvalve (D13), normally"to be left open(handtein
alignmenlwithlhe gasflow).
The valve(D13) isconnectedto the combination
control
valve(seefollowing item) by a union(D15).
If the Refrigeratoristo be remoeedfor maintenanceor the
like, closethevalve and uncouplethe union.The valve will
keepthe end of the connectorsealed,thus maintaining
the gas supplysystemoperational

b) Close and then immediatelyopenIha selectorvalve

To reconnectthe Relr_gerator,simplyhook-upthe union
again, openthe valve and use detergentto checkfor
leaks at Eneunion and adjoining fittings.The unionshould
notbe overl[ghtened.Tighlenfirm_ with the hand and
then a larther 10 or 20 degreeswithan open-endwrench,
or untilthere are no leaks.

6.4 The thermostatic valve and the bypass
(Fig. G)

The flame wil_go outbul the gassupplywillcontinueto
flow.
c) Listen carefully. In about 30 to 40 seconds you will
hear a slight but very dislinct "c1_c_€'
to signify that the
valve has closed.

The temperatureis sensedvia a coppercapillarytube
(Gt) risingbehind theRel_gerator(D3) and w_hthe tip
reachingintoa receplacleon Ihe evaporator(El).
The lemperatureo!the tip and thepositronofthe shaft
(G4) causethe passageotgas tothe bume_to opento a
greateror lesserextenl. Whenreinstalling
the capillary
tube altera repair,make sure that it fits properlyinto the
_eceptacleand caulkthe cutlet {D2)with sealing
compound,
Evenwhenthethem]esteLla
valveis closed,a small
amount of gasstill p_ssesIhroughto keep the flame
alight and Ihe Freezercompartment
operating,
This gas is meteredbyan orifice [n the bypass screw
(G6). The orificeis nonadjustableand the screw
indicatesthe capacity.

6,5 Pressure outlet

6.8 The flue tube (Fig. I)

The plug (G5) can be removedand replacedby a
pressureoultetcoupledto a pressuregauge.
With the Refrigeratoroperatingand the Ihennostat
adjustedto the coldestsetting,the pressureshouldbe Ihe
same as the supply pressure,or 11inches (280 ram)
water column.

The burnerisIocaledbeneaththe fluetube(14).
Them is a baffle(15)in Ihetube to improveheattransfer
of the combustiongases,and also a chock(13)to limit
lhe excessair passingboughlheflue tube.
The assembly(t2) is supported at the upperedge of the
flue lube. Fitting overi! is Ihe ffue extension(11),
fastenedto the coolingunit.

7. Periodic maintenance and
trouble-shooting

Turningthe thermostatknoblo thewarmestsalting, you

capillaryis 3_F (0_C)or colder).

This device comprises the drip pan (F_2.)beneath the
evaporator, the drain to the rear o! the _efrigeralor, and Iha
water channel (D4) between the drain and the containers
[g5). Clean Ihe drain and the water channel by using, for
example, a thin rod with a wad of cotton wool, If
necessary, remove and clean Ihe water containers_When
reFastalling,note they are offsel 180 degrees to one
anolher.

The baffle may conta]n burnt dust and light
surface corrosion. The tip, however, must be
intact, not corroded. Soot musl not be present,
as tf_ls is a sign of incomplete combustion.
Should this occur, please contact you dealer.
