Tools and materials you will need:
• 2mm hex wrench • 3mm hex wrench
• 4mm hex wrench • 6mm hex wrench
• green threadlocker
Note: wait until all
parts are assembled
before tightening
screws.
Refer to HPI Baja
manual for gas engine
removal instructions.
1. Assemble Di Plate
(item 8) to the lower
rear shock brace of the
car using two M5 X
15mm long flat head
cap screws (item 22)
along with Di Spacer
(item 18) and two M5 X
30mm long flat head
cap screw (item 20) as
shown in gure 1.
2. Attach Base Plate
(item 2) onto the base
plate of the car’s frame.
Refer to gure 2. Use
two M5 X 15mm long
flat head cap screws
(item 22) and two M5
X 15mm long button
head cap screws (item
23).
3. Mount the 2028
motor to Motor Mount
Plate (item 3) as shown
in gure 3. Use three
M4 X 8mm long socket
head cap screws (item
24).
4. Place the existing 12
x 24 x 6 bearing from

into the corresponding
counter-bored hole into
Motor Mount Plate
(item 3) as shown in
gure 4.
5. With the bearing
facing out, slide the
bearing over the car’s
drive shaft and secure
the Motor Mount Plate
(item 3) to Base Plate
(item 2) using three M5
X 15mm long button
head cap screws (item
23) and Di Plate (item
8) using three M3 X
8mm long button head
cap screws (item 26) as
shown in gure 5.
6. Use four M5 X
20mm socket head
cap screws (item 27)
to mount Lateral Brace
(item 10) between the
frame and roll cage.
Refer to gure 6.
7. Secure Box Frame
Plate (item 12) to Base
Plate (item 2) using
three M5 X 15mm
long button head
cap screws (item 23)
and Di Plate (item 8)
using three M3 X 8mm
long button head cap
screws (item 26). See
gure 6.
8. Mount Passenger
Frame Plate (item 9)
to Motor Mount Plate
(item 3) using one M8
X 10mm long socket
head cap screw (item 25) and the roll cage using two M5
X 15mm long flat head cap screws (item 22). See gure
7.
9. Mount Driver Frame Plate (item 11) to Box Frame
Plate (item 12) and Baja roll cage using three M5 X 15mm
long flat head cap screws (item 22) as shown in gure 8.
10. Assemble Gear Cover Plate (item 17) onto Motor
Mount Plate (item 3) using three M5 X 10mm long flat
head cap screws (item 21). See gure 9.
11. At this time tighten all screws.
12. Replace the spur gear spacer over the drive shaft.
13. Replace the Baja stock spur gear and “E” clip.
14. With the motor mounting screws loose, slide the
desired Castle MOD 1.5 pinion onto the motor shaft. Check
for proper gear mesh. Adjustments are made by sliding the
motor sideways. Once the proper mesh is achieved, tighten
the motor mount screws. You may have to slide the pinion
o of the motor shaft to reach the motor mounting screws.
15. Once the pinion and motor are properly adjusted, align
the set screw in the pinion on the at on the motor shaft
and tighten set screw.
Note: apply a small amount of green threadlock
between motor shaft and pinion.
16. Place the Castle 2028 Dual Fan Shroud (item 19)
over the Castle 2028 Motor and secure in place with the
provided plastic zip straps.
Note: Make sure the blowers are facing the front of
the vehicle.
17. Mount the Castle Mamba XL ESC onto item Di Plate
(item 8) using four M3 X 8mm long button head cap
screws (item 26).
18. Mount HPI Gear Guard (item 16) onto Gear Cover
Plate (item 17) with two M5 X 20mm long socket head
cap screws (item 27).
19. Once complete, the assembly should look like gure 11.

Note: wrap the
velcro strap across
the vehicle’s
upper frame rails
to secure your
batteries.
