Introduction
This document contains instructions on how to set up and hold the Cypress Academy WICED Wi-Fi WW-101 class.
Checklists are included for all items that need to be arranged.
This course is designed to be extremely intensive and hands-on. We demand that every student be engaged, every
student learns, and every student has a good experience.
Facility Requirements
Room Setup
The class is taught over 2 full days. During that time we switch back and forth between classroom instruction and
individual lab exercises. It is therefore critical that the room setup is appropriate and comfortable for both uses.
Students should be seated at long rectangular tables with 2 students per table. There must be enough space at each
table for students to have a laptop, kits, and manual placed comfortably. There must be enough room around the tables
(both sides, front and back) for instructors to walk around and sit next to students to assist them. There must be power
provided at each table (at least 4 outlets per table).
There must be a screen (or 2 screens for wide rooms) at the front of the room with a projector that can be connected to
a laptop computer that the instructor will provide. Cables/adapters to connect to a laptop with HDMI, display port, and
mini display port outputs must be available. There should be a microphone available at the font of the class unless the
class size is very small.
The following diagram shows an example of the setup with approximate dimensions for a class size of 24 students.
Appropriate changes may be made depending on class sizes and available rooms but these general guidelines should be
followed as closely as possible. Deviations from the setup described above and shown in the figure must be approved
by the instructors before it is too late to adjust – send photos of the room setup if possible.

The manual should be assembled as follows:
1. Either a spiral bound book (preferred) or a 3-ring binder per student + 1 for the Instructor.
a. Spiral bound books are preferred but they must be able to lie open flat on a table. That is, book type
bindings are not acceptable.
b. If using binders, they should fit the material comfortably (at least a 3/4” binder)
2. The Binder Cover and Binder Back documents should be printed on separate pages to use as front and back
covers. If using binders, they should have clear pockets on the outside front and back for the covers.
3. A printed sticker (Avery 5160) with the WiFi SSID / password and the AWS login ID / password. This sticker will
be affixed to the back cover of each manual. The password will change frequently so check with the instructor
for the latest password before printing stickers. The sticker should look like the following:
WiFi SSID: CYFI_IOT_EXT
WiFi Password: cypresswicedwifi101
AWS Account Alias: wicedwifi101
AWS IAM User Name: wicedwifi101
AWS Password: ww101_wiced
4. Mark 1 training binder “INSTRUCTOR.” Any errors found should be documented in the Instructor manual and
sent to NJNJ at the completion of the training.
5. One set of post-it flags for the instructor manual to mark changes (Post-It product #683-VAD1)
6. One set of divider tabs numbered 1-10 for each binder.
7. Print all materials in color, double-sided copies, 3-hole punched (only if using 3-ring binders)

Each student gets a name tag each day of the training (e.g. C-line Products No. 97043, shown below). Pre-printed
nametags are preferred but blank name tags along with a marker are acceptable. Provide at least some blank name tags
for any “walk-in” students.

The following hardware must be available. The students can keep these items after the class. NJNJ will arrange to have
these items shipped to you prior to the class.

• Pre-printed class rosters
• Adapters/cables so that a laptop with an HDMI, Display Port, or Mini Display Port output can be connected to
the projector.
Software Requirements
The following table lists the electronic material required:
1. WICED Studio Installer
2. Terminal Viewer Software (e.g. putty.exe)
3. Electronic Copy of the Manual
4. Kit Platform Files
5. Solution Projects
6. AWS Broker and Credential Information
The above files will be provided to the students as links in an instruction email prior to the class. This may be combined
with the invitation email if everything is ready in time. The files will also be available in the class on flash drives. These
will be provided by the instructor.
Invitations and Site Information
The training instructor may determine a list of Cypress employees to be invited to the training or CYU invitations may be
used. The administrator or training instructor must email an invitation to all the attendees approximately 4 weeks
before the training session. The administrator or training instructor will need to track responses for accurate supplies to
be acquired.
Email invitations to the course should spell out expectations for class start and end times. We run the class from 8AM
until 5:30PM each day. Make sure you impress upon the students when you invite them that we expect to start at 8AM.
The invitation must include a request for an RSVP so that we can plan for the number of expected students. The RSVP
should also inquire as to any dietary restrictions for each student.
The invitation must state that each student must bring a laptop computer.
In addition to the information listed above, site information must be included in the email:
• Preferred hotel name and contact information
Class Setup Instructions Page 7 of 9
