Overview
Printer stand for 4247-V03 now available
The IBM 4247 Model V03 is a professional industrial impact matrix printer
capable of printing at speeds of up to 1100 characters-per-second (cps) in fast
draft mode.
An open printer stand designed specifically for the Model V03 is now
available. Key features of this stand include:
•A paper separator to ensure paper separation when loading, unloading, or
feeding forms from either of the two front continuous forms tractors
•Sturdy construction designed specifically to support the 4247-V03
high-speed print action
•Adjustable stacking height for paper output tray
Improved configurability and print throughput for the IBM 4247-003 Impact
Matrix Printer
Enhancements for the 4247-003 printer include:
•Configuration flexibility to enable all interface cards to be user-installable
(Customer Setup) and switchable
•Print throughput improvement

Description
IBM 4247-V03 Printer Stand
The IBM 4247-V03 Printer Stand has three main sections:
•A flat table surface to hold the printer
•An input paper tray to hold forms before they are fed
through the printer
•An output paper tray for stacking forms after they are
printed
The table is designed specifically to support the features
of the IBM 4247-V03, and since this stand accommodates
the footprint and weight of the 4247-V03, printer vibration
is minimized.
The printer stand was also designed to serve the
characteristics of the 4247-V03 printer. The stand
accommodates two continuous forms and a separator in
the front of the stand is used to ensure that the forms are
kept separate.
When dual continuous forms are used, one form rests on
the input paper tray and the other form rests on the floor
underneath the input tray.
The printer stand is customer set-up and can be easily
assembled in about 30 minutes.
The original higher-priced enclosed cabinet style printer
stand (#4462) is still available.
Improved configurability for the IBM 4247-V03 Printer
A field-installable option to install Coax SCS (#4232) is
now available. Previously, Coax SCS was available as an
initial order feature only. This new feature is easily
installed by a customers, and can be used to field replace
the following adapters:
•Twinax IPDS (#4220 or #4222)
•Twinax SCS (#4210 or #4212)
•Ethernet LAN (#4260 or #4262)
•Serial (#4250 or #4252)
•Coax IPDS (#4240 or #4242)
In addition, the Coax IPDS adapter can now be field
installed to replace the following adapters:
•Twinax IPDS (#4220 or #4222)
•Twinax SCS (#4210 or #4212)
•Ethernet LAN (#4260 or #4262)
•Serial (#4250 or #4252)
•Coax SCS (#4240 or #4242)
Replacement, addition, and installation of attachment
cards for installed 4247-003 printers
The following table shows the allowable replacements and
additions of attachment cards for installed IBM 4247-003
Printers and the feature to order to replace or add an
adapter.
This table only applies to 4247-003 printers shipped after
August 26, 2003, with Internal Base Code Level 6.05 or
above. If Code 6.05 is required on a 4247-003 printer that
shipped with earlier code, an RPQ must be submitted.
A procedure to determine the level of code installed in a
printer is explained in the Supplementary information in
this letter.
For easy identification of boxed printers that have code
level 6.05 and higher, the printer part number printed on
the box label has been changed from 01PXXXX to
75PXXXX (where XXXX can be any number). The
01PXXXX numbers were used on printers shipped prior to
6.05 code.
All of these replacements and additions are easily
installed by customers, and do not require IBM Field
Engineering for installation.

*“Any Attachment” is Twinax IPDS, Twinax SCS, Coax SCS,
Coax IPDS, Serial, Ethernet LAN, and includes “no
attachment,” which is the standard parallel adapter.
Bulk order for optional features
For most products, the quantity of any feature that can
be ordered is the same as the maximum number of the
feature allowed per machine. Since the IBM 4247-003
features are now all customer setup (for 4247 Model 003
with Licensed Internal Code Level 6.05 or higher), in
some cases it is desirable to bulk order certain features
so that machines can be easily reconfigured by Business
Partners and end users. Thus, for 4247-003 MES features,
the maximum order quantity is normally 10, which is
greater than the maximum that can be installed on one
printer.
The maximum number of initial-order attachment features
that can be ordered is one. Use the MES feature numbers
for bulk orders.
IBM 4247-003 print throughput improvement
The print speed of the IBM 4247-003 has been improved
slightly for models with internal base code level 6.05 and
higher. The improved code provides approximately a 5%
greater throughput performance.

A 4247-003 printer must have Base Code level 6.05 or
higher. If this code is needed, submit an RPQ.
• Limitations: None, this MES is a conversion MES to
replace any of the installed attachment cards (4210,
4211, 4220, 4221, 4240, 4241, 4250, 4251, 4260, or 4261)
with this attachment card.

Product positioning
The new open printer stand is a lower-priced printer stand
option for the 4247-V03 printer. The present enclosed
cabinet printer stand is still available. The open printer
stand does not offer the refined appearance of the
enclosed cabinet.

Procedure to determine base code level installed in a

The following procedure can be used to determine the
code level in a 4247-003 printer.
1. Load forms in a tractor or manual cut-sheet tray
2. Press test key
3. Scroll until the printer displays “4247 Operator Print
Tests Firmware information”
4. Press enter to print
5. Information on the code level is on the printout
