Welcome…

Marketing Director’s Message
KCDA Vendor & Technology Expo … A chance
to meet vendors and see the latest products.
We are pleased to announce our 2013 Vendor & Technology Expo will be
held on Thursday October 10th at the KCDA warehouse in Kent, WA.
KCDA has traditionally held a vendor expo in the winter months to allow
members to see the contract items that are available. This year’s expo is being
held earlier in the school year to coincide with the timing of construction
projects that typically get started in the summer months.
It’s a chance to meet multiple vendors all at one time and to discuss
upcoming capital project requirements. KCDA did not organize the fair in 2012 due to K12 budget constraints. However,
with more funding available, there is a renewed interest from our school district capital project, facility, and purchasing
personnel to meet our awarded vendors and see the latest products.
This year, KCDA expects over 50 exhibitors representing a wide range of products like auditorium seating, bleachers,
carpet & ooring, communication systems, copiers, custodial equipment, eld drainage, eld lighting, furniture, lockers,
modular buildings, patient care equipment, playground equipment, scoreboard & signage, roo ng, technology, tennis courts,
and track & eld. There is no cost to attend and lunch will be provided to all attendees.
Along with the Vendor Expo, KCDA provides our members with services not offered by other national cooperatives:
Central Warehouse: KCDA provides centralized warehousing to our members. Items are bid and awarded on a line-item
basis to minimize purchase cost. Prices include shipping and handling. Over 15,000 items are available for same day
shipping from our 170,000 square foot warehouse in Kent, WA.
Customer Service: KCDA has four Field Representatives available to meet with members who have questions regarding
contracts, products, and services. Our Customer Service Team is available Mon – Fri 8:00am to 4:30pm to take orders,
respond to product inquiries, and provide technical support.
Purchasing Expertise: KCDA is a member of AEPA, a national organization of educational purchasing agencies which
has competitively bid contracts tailored to meet each member state’s speci c legal requirements. Collaborative purchasing
expertise insures that our contracts are safe, legal, and compliant.
Local Public Agency: KCDA is owned by Washington’s Public School Districts. Every dollar spent using KCDA contracts
increases our purchasing power and helps us get lower pricing to our members. More importantly, the dollars spent stay in
the Northwest instead of ending up in some other part of the country.
We look forward to seeing you at KCDAs Vendor & Technology Expo in October!

Check Out Cart Reminder
KCDA Purchasing Department has had to say goodbye to two long-standing employees who retired this year.
Becky Stripp worked forKCDA for 22 years and left in May. John Endicott worked for KCDA for 15 years and retired on
June 28th.
With goodbyes come hellos, and we welcome two new employees to the KCDA Purchasing staff.
Shannon Kimball will be taking over for John in the major areas of Art Supplies, Early Childhood Development,
Technology and PE Supplies. Her background includes responsibilities of project coordination where she provided life
cycle management, researched and developed acquisition strategies, and served on integrated product teams. Her most recent
position has been at Community Transit, where she assisted with coordination of a major project between Procurement and
Project Management providing documentation for bids and awards, cost analysis, and pricing.
Bob Wilson takes over for Becky in Custodial Products, Modular/Portable Buildings and Roo ng. Bob worked for
SIAC, an aerospace company in Kent, before the local of ce closed, performing procurement responsibilities under the
US Government SAR program. His position required strict adherence to numerous government regulations. He recently
was working at the Puget Sound Blood Center as a Buyer for goods and services, abiding by best practices in procurement.
Bob’s background includes experience in planning/scheduling, subcontracts, technical familiarity in machining processes,
mechanical and electronic assembly.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Becky and John for their long-time service to our schools and member
agencies. They will be missed at KCDA. I am also pleased to have two such capable people coming into the Department to
assist the needs of all our members.

Shoreline Public Schools is putting the nishing touches on the rst of two high school construction projects that are
scheduled to complete during the 2013/2014 school year. The $150 million dollar projects are designed to create a safe
and secure environment for students, to promote community values and access, and to provide spaces that support a
comprehensive educational experience. The district is using KCDA to procure an assortment of furniture for these new
schools.
The new Shorewood High School will feature a three-story academic building with a central commons. Included on site
will be a new multi-purpose theater for performing arts as well as a new gymnasium. The school is scheduled to be ready
in time for the rst day of school on September 4th.
The Shorecrest High School modernization will feature a three-story main academics and commons building with
the athletics building to the south. The existing theater building will be expanded to include arts and music programs.
Anticipated completion is February 2014.
For KCDA, this presents an opportunity to showcase the various furniture manufacturers that we have on contract.
Members can access contracts and receive catalog discount pricing on furniture for the classroom, computer lab, common
areas, conference room, early childhood, higher education, lunchroom, music department, of ce, reception area, and science
labs. In addition, the district can avoid the time, cost, and legal rami cations of bidding direct.
KCDA Purchasing Cooperative was founded 1938 by school board members in King County. We help members save money
by creating volume purchasing and ful lling bid law requirements. KCDA manages centralized receiving, warehousing,
and distribution while offering additional contracts to provide a single-source for consumable supplies, facilities projects,
and technology equipment. Since KCDA is owned by Washington’s Public School Districts, every dollar spent using KCDA
contracts increases our purchasing power and helps us get lower pricing for our members. More importantly, the dollars
stay in the Northwest instead of ending up in some other part of the country.
