MasterSwitch™
MasterSwitch affords the network
manager complete control of power
in the network environment
MasterSwitch eases the burden of managing
remote sites and maximizes the uptime of servers
and internetworking equipment.
The MasterSwitch provides 8 relay-controlled
outlets. Each outlet offers independent switching
of power to a connected load, which allows
remote power control without affecting other
attached equipment. Whether you’re across the
country, across the city or across the hall,
MasterSwitch saves time, travel or a late night
visit to the office.
Managing a remote site can negatively impact a
company’s bottom line. Even a simple visit by a
field technician to reboot a locked up server can
be very costly. MasterSwitch eliminates such visits
for more cost-effective network management.
With the ever-increasing cost of on-site service
calls, the MasterSwitch pays for itself almost
immediately.
When connected to an APC UPS,
MasterSwitch lets you manage the
uptime of a system.
Power can be shutdown on a receptacle by
receptacle basis to extend the runtime of the UPS
powering mission-critical equipment. MasterSwitch
also allows systems to be powered up sequentially,
letting domain controllers boot before other
systems and preventing a high in-rush current.
MasterSwitch includes complete SNMP manage-
ment capability; APC extends industry standard
MIB-2 compliance to include its MIB for control-
lable power. The device can be managed alongside
any of APC’s intelligent UPSs via a standard
SNMP management system and MIB browser.
MasterSwitch features embedded
Web-based manageability.
An intuitive, low bandwidth graphical user inter-
face (GUI) is available and can be accessed by any
Web browser. Security for this interface follows
the HTTP 1.0 password standard. The interface
also lets the user set links to the connected
equipment, other managed devices or to APC’s
Web site and on-line technical support.
Finally, APC has provided built-in out-of-band
management capabilities through a RS-232
interface. By connecting a modem to the built-in
serial port, the MasterSwitch can be controlled
through a remote terminal.
MasterSwitch has easy installation
To make installation as simple as possible,
MasterSwitch can be configured over the
network or through a
local terminal
program. Bootp is
included for auto-
matic IP address
assignment. If bootp
is not available on
the user’s network, the
device’s IP address can
be assigned via the serial
interface. Once the device
is set-up on the network, no
custom client software is
needed: simply use a Web
browser, SNMP management
system or terminal program to
control your power.
MasterSwitch™provides complete
Web and SNMP management and
control of your network’s power
The MasterSwitch network power controller lets network administrators completely direct the
power to connected fileservers and internetworking equipment. From anywhere on the
network, administrators can use an SNMP management system or Web browser to power,
de-power or reboot equipment. Additionally, MasterSwitch can be connected to a modem for
out-of-band management.
