TERMS USED IN WARNINGS: The term “Receiver” corresponds to “Parent’s Unit” and the term “Transmitter” corresponds to “Baby’s Unit” in the rest of this instruction booklet. • The Home Connection Monitor System is not intended to replace responsible and proper parental supervision. • Check your child’s activity at regular intervals as this monitor will not alert parents to the silent activities of a child. • Before using your Home Connection Monitor System: - Read and follow all instructions carefully. - Read and observe all warnings on the product and in this instruction booklet. • To prevent entanglement with the adapter cord, NEVER place the cord in or near a crib or playpen. DO NOT place the Transmitter or Receiver anywhere its AC adapter cord could be within reach of children. • ALWAYS KEEP THE TRANSMITTER, RECEIVER AND AC ADAPTERS OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. • This product is not intended to be used as a medical monitor and its use should not replace adult supervision. • It is essential to check reception regularly. Please see the Testing Reception section for complete instructions. • The Transmitter is intended for indoor use only. • NEVER use the Transmitter or Receiver near water. For example, do not use near a bathtub, bathroom sink, laundry tub, kitchen sink, in a wet basement, etc. • Always unplug the AC adapters from wall outlets during long periods of non-use. • Position the Transmitter, Receiver and AC adapters to allow adequate ventilation and prevent these components from overheating. • To prevent overheating, keep the Transmitter, Receiver and AC adapters away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves or other appliances (including amplifiers) which produce heat. Also keep these components out of direct sunlight. • Use only the AC adapters provided. Use of any other adapters may damage the Transmitter and/or Receiver. Plug the AC adapters into standard household current only (120V AC outlet)! To prevent entanglement and overheating, DO NOT use extension cords. • The AC adapters may become slightly warm to the touch during operation. This is normal. • Position the AC adapter cords so that they are not walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying particular attention to cords at AC adapter plugs, wall plugs, and the point at which the cords attach to the Transmitter and Receiver. 08038_inst_E_112103 12/10/03 2:00 PM Page 3 • This product should be serviced only by qualified service personnel at Dorel Juvenile Group when: - An AC adapter or its plug is damaged, - The Transmitter or Receiver are dropped, - Liquid has spilled into the Transmitter or Receiver or - The Transmitter or Receiver do not appear to operate normally or exhibit a marked change in performance • DO NOT attempt to service this product beyond that described in the Troubleshooting section at the end of these instructions. All other servicing should be referred to qualified personnel at Dorel Juvenile Group. NOTE: The LEDs emit IR (infra red) light that is not harmful. The date code is located on the bottom of each Parent’s Unit. • The Recharging Battery is designed for many years of use, but if you should need to replace it, the part number is ######. 08038_inst_E_112103 12/10/03 2:01 PM Page 5 Installing Your Home Connection Monitor System WARNING • To prevent entanglement, only mount the Baby’s Unit in a location where it and its AC adapter cord are OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. • DO NOT mount the Baby’s Unit directly above heating vents, other heat producing sources or in direct sunlight. • To prevent entanglement and overheating, NEVER use an extension cord. To Charge the Parent’s Units: IMPORTANT: You will need to fully charge each Parent’s Unit BEFORE FIRST USE and when low battery indicator is illuminated. 1. Unscrew the two screws at the bottom of each Parent’s Unit. Insert the Recharging Battery with 2 pin connector wire facing down. Connect the two pin connector inside each Parent’s Unit. Replace the bottom and secure screws (Figure 1). 2. Connect an AC adapter into each Parent’s Unit and into a power outlet (Figure 1). It takes approximately 8 hours to fully charge. CAUTION • When using batteries, check batteries regularly. Amber LED indicates the batteries are low. DO NOT rely on Parent’s Unit when batteries are low. Recharging Battery 2 Pin Connector Screws NOTE: The Parent’s Units may use either the AC adapter or the rechargeable batteries provided. 3. For AC Power Use: Locate each Parent’s Unit and its AC adapter. Connect the AC adapter into the side of the Parent’s Unit. Connect the AC adapter into a power outlet. CAUTION: DO NOT use an adapter or batteries that did not come with this product. For Battery Use: Charge the Parent’s Units as noted above. NOTE: If desired, slide the belt clip over your belt. 08038_inst_E_112103 12/10/03 2:01 PM Page 6 Installing Your Home Connection Monitor System To Set Up the Baby’s Units: 4. Locate each Baby’s Unit and its AC adapter. Connect the AC adapter into the bottom of each Baby’s Unit (Figure 2). If desired, wrap the excess cord onto cord shortener. Connect the AC adapter into a power outlet. Place the Baby’s Unit on a flat surface 4 to 6’ (1.5 to 2 m) away from the baby. Baby’s Unit AC Adapter CAUTION: DO NOT use an adapter that did not come with this product. Choose Locations: IMPORTANT: When choosing locations to set up the Baby’s Units and Parent’s Units follow these guidelines: • For best sound quality and safety, place each Baby’s Unit 4 to 6’ (1.5 to 2 m) away from the baby. • Be certain the Parent’s Unit and Baby’s Unit are set on the same channel (all Units are preset on channel I when packaged). • Check reception regularly. • Adjust the volume to a comfortable level for your environment. • Use each Parent’s Unit far enough away from the Baby’s Units so as not to get feedback. • During use of the monitor, if the sound quality deteriorates you may be reaching the limits of the monitor’s range. If this happens, you will need to move the Parent’s Units in closer proximity to the Baby’s Units. To Use the Baby’s Unit and Parent’s Units: 5. Turn each charged Parent’s Unit and Baby’s Units to the On position. Be sure that channel I is selected on all Baby’s Units. NOTE: The channel selectors on the Parent’s Units are preset to channel I. A second channel is available if you experience interference. Please refer to the Troubleshooting section. 08038_inst_E_112103 12/10/03 2:01 PM Page 7 Operating Your Home Connection Monitor System To Use the Baby’s Unit and Parent’s Units (continued): 6. Adjust the volume by turning the knob on the side of each Parent’s Unit. Check the battery LED on the Parent’s Units to be sure the unit is charged (green). If the Low Battery LED is illuminated amber, you need to recharge the Parent’s Unit (Figure 4). On/Off Volume Control Low Battery LED (Amber) 7. To listen to a Baby’s Unit press the room selector button that corresponds to the Baby’s Unit that you want to monitor. Each Baby’s Unit is color coded to match the corresponding button on the Parent’s Units. Scan Feature: 8. The Parent’s Units can scan each Baby’s Unit for three second intervals. For example, Baby’s Unit A is monitored for three seconds and the corresponding colored LED illuminates. Next, Baby’s Unit B is monitored and so on. Press the Scan button to turn Scan On. To turn Scan Off and listen only to one Baby’s Unit, press the room selector button that corresponds to the Baby’s Unit (Figure 5). The two-way talk feature on each Parent’s Unit allows the parent to communicate with someone on the second Parent’s Unit. Press and hold the talk button. Release button to listen (Figure 5). Secure Sound Lights: 10. The 5 sound lights on the Parent’s Units indicate the sound level of the room that you are monitoring. The more noise in the selected room, the more sound lights will illuminate. CAUTION: Test the Parent’s Unit before each use. It is essential to check reception regularly. IMPORTANT: The first time you use your Home Connection Monitor System, go through the section “To Test the Reception” with two adults. 08038_inst_E_112103 12/10/03 2:01 PM Page 8 Operating Your Home Connection Monitor System To Test the Reception: 11. Place each Baby’s Unit in a room near the baby. Have an adult speak into each Baby’s Unit at various levels (soft to loud) while another adult checks each Parent’s Unit for the proper sound and reception. Try the Parent’s Unit in every location that it will be used. Try talking from one Parent’s Unit to the other. It is best to follow these guidelines for good reception: Guidelines for good reception: • The Baby’s Unit should be placed 4 to 6’ (1.5 to 2 m) away from the baby. • Be certain each Parent’s Units and corresponding Baby’s Unit are set on the same channel (see Troubleshooting). • Check reception regularly by following Step 10 above. • Adjust the volume to a comfortable level for your environment. • Use each Parent’s Unit far enough away from the Baby’s Units so as not to get feedback. • During use of the monitor, if the sound quality deteriorates you may be reaching the limits of the monitor’s range. If this happens, you will need to move the Parent’s Unit in closer proximity to the Baby’s Unit. NOTE: It is possible for the Parent’s Units to pick up sounds or interference from other signal producing devices including other audio or video monitors which broadcast in the 900 MHz range. To minimize this potential problem, two independent channels have been provided. If interference becomes a problem on the preset channel, please refer to the Troubleshooting section at the end of these instructions. CAUTION: To protect your privacy, always turn the Baby’s Units off when not in use. Always remember that you are using public airwaves. Sound may be broadcast to other receiving devices. Conversations, even from rooms near by, may be broadcast. Troubleshooting NOTE: Do not return this product to the place of purchase. Should the product contain defects in material or workmanship Dorel Juvenile Group, Inc., will repair or replace the product, at our option, free of charge. Purchaser will be responsible for all costs associated with packaging and shipping the product to Dorel Juvenile Group Consumer Relations Department at the address noted on the front page of this document and all other freight or insurance costs associated with the return. Dorel Juvenile Group will bear the cost of shipping the repaired or replaced product to the purchaser. Product should be returned in its original package accompanied by a proof of purchase, either a sales receipt or other proof that the product is within the warranty period. This warranty is void if the owner repairs or modifies the product or the product has been damaged as a result of misuse. This warranty excludes any liability other than that expressly stated previously, including but not limited to, any incidental or inconsequential damages.
