TERMS USED IN WARNINGS: The term “Receiver” corresponds to “Parent Unit” and the term “Transmitter” corresponds to “Child Unit” in the rest of this instruction booklet. • The Quick Connection Two Way Monitor is not intended to replace responsible and proper parental supervision. • Check your child’s activity at regular intervals as this monitor will not alert parents to the silent activities of a child. • Before using your Quick Connection Two Way Monitor: - Read and follow all instructions carefully. - Read and observe all warnings on the product and in this instruction booklet. • To prevent entanglement with the adapter cord, NEVER place the cord in or near a crib or playpen. DO NOT place the Receiver anywhere its AC adapter cord are within reach of children. • ALWAYS KEEP THE TRANSMITTER, RECEIVER AND AC ADAPTERS OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. • This product is not intended to be used as a medical monitor and its use should not replace adult supervision. It is important that an adult stay within the viewing range of the Quick Connection Two Way Monitor at all times during use. • It is essential to check reception regularly. Please see the Testing Reception section for complete instructions. • The Receiver is intended for indoor use only. • NEVER use the Transmitter or Receiver near water. For example, do not use near a bathtub, bathroom sink, laundry tub, kitchen sink, in a wet basement, etc. • Always unplug the AC adapters from wall outlets during long periods of non-use. • Position the Transmitter, Receiver and AC adapters to allow adequate ventilation and prevent these components from overheating. • To prevent overheating, keep the Transmitter, Receiver and AC adapters away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves or other appliances (including amplifiers) which produce heat. Also keep these components out of direct sunlight. • Use only the AC adapters provided. Use of any other adapters may damage the Transmitter and/or Receiver. Plug the AC adapters into standard household current only (120V AC outlet)! To prevent entanglement and overheating, DO NOT use extension cords. • The AC adapters may become slightly warm to the touch during operation. This is normal. • Position the AC adapter cords so that they are not walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying particular attention to cords at AC adapter plugs, wall plugs, and the point at which the cords attach to the Transmitter and Receiver. 08041 Quick Connection 10/9/03 11:25 AM Page 3 • This product should be serviced only by qualified service personnel at Dorel Juvenile Group when: - An AC adapter or its plug is damaged, - The Transmitter or Receiver have fallen, - Liquid has spilled into the Transmitter or Receiver or - The Transmitter or Receiver do not appear to operate normally or exhibit a marked change in performance • DO NOT attempt to service this product beyond that described in the Troubleshooting section at the end of these instructions. All other servicing should be referred to qualified personnel at Dorel Juvenile Group. NOTE: The LEDs emit IR (infra red) light that is not harmful. The date code is located on the bottom of the Child Unit. 08041 Quick Connection 10/9/03 11:25 AM Page 5 Installing Your Quick Connection Two Way Monitor To Set Up Your Child Unit: WARNING • To prevent entanglement, only mount the Child Unit in a location where it and its AC adapter cord are OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. • DO NOT mount the Child Unit directly above heating vents, other heat producing sources or in direct sunlight. • To prevent entanglement and overheating, NEVER use an extension cord. 1. Locate the Child Unit and its AC adapter. Connect the AC adapter into the back of the Child Unit. Child Unit CAUTION: DO NOT use an adapter that did not come with this product. AC Adapter 2. Wrap the excess cord onto built in cord shortener (Figure 2). Allow enough cord to reach the outlet and connect the AC adapter into a power outlet. Allow the cord to exit the hole and close the door. Amber LED indicates the batteries are low. DO NOT rely on Parent Unit when batteries are low. NOTE: The Parent Unit may use either the AC adapter or batteries. When plugged in, the AC adapter will be the source of power. Parent Unit 1. For AC Power Use: Locate the Parent Unit and its AC adapter. Connect the AC adapter into the side of the Parent Unit. Connect the AC adapter into a power outlet (Figure1). AC Adapter CAUTION: DO NOT use an adapter that did not come with this product. For Battery Use: Locate the center screw at the back of the Parent Unit. Unscrew the screw. Pull off the battery door and insert three AAA batteries (see positive and negative diagram on the Parent Unit). Secure the door with the screw (Figure 1a). NOTE: If desired, slide the belt clip over your belt. 1a Battery Door Screw 3 AAA Batteries Choose a Location: IMPORTANT: When choosing a location to set up your Child Unit and Parent Unit follow these guidelines: up to 1000' • For best sound quality place the Child Unit 4 to 6' (1.5 to 2 m) away from the child. • Use the Parent Unit far enough away from the Child Unit so as not to get feedback. • DO NOT use the Parent Unit more than 1000' (304.8 m) away from the Child Unit. Parent Unit Child Unit 08041 Quick Connection 10/9/03 11:25 AM Page 7 Operating Your Quick Connection Two Way Monitor To Use Your Child Unit and Parent Unit: 1. Turn the Parent Unit and the Child Unit to the On position. Choose a channel. Be sure that the same channel is selected on both the Child Unit and the Parent Unit. On/Off Volume Control On/Off Control Channels Must Match If desired, turn the vibrate feature on. Vibrate overrides sound, therefore no sound will be heard when vibrate is on. 2. Adjust the volume by turning the knob on the side of the Parent Unit. To talk, press and hold the talk button. Release button to listen. Talk Control On/Off Volume Control On/Off Vibrate CAUTION: Test the Parent Unit before each use. It is essential to check reception regularly. IMPORTANT: The first time you use your Child Unit, go through the section “Test the Reception” with two adults. 08041 Quick Connection 10/9/03 11:25 AM Page 8 Operating Your Quick Connection Two Way Monitor To Test the Reception: 5 Sound Lights (LEDs) NOTE: It is essential to check reception regularly. Louder noise On/Off Volume Control 1. Place the Child Unit 4 to 6' (1.5 to 2m) away. Have an adult speak into the Child Unit at various levels (soft to loud) while another adult checks the Parent Unit for the proper sound and reception (Figure 1). Turn vibrate to the On position and test the vibrate feature. Press the talk and hold the talk control and your voice will be heard on the Child Unit. Try the Parent Unit in every location that it will be used. It is best to follow these guidelines for good reception: Vibrate Control Range Indicator: Green = good connection Red = poor connection Talk Control 2 Channels Power On/Low Battery Indicator: Green = Power On Amber = Low Battery Guidelines for Good Reception: • Place your Child Unit 4 to 6' (1.5 to 2m) away from the child. • Be certain the Parent Unit and Child Unit are set on the same channel. • Have one adult speak (from a whisper to a yell) into the microphone on the front of the Child Unit while another checks the volume and the sound LEDs on the Parent Unit. The more noise your baby makes, the more sound lights will illuminate (Figure 1). • Adjust the volume to a comfortable level for your environment. • Use the Parent Unit far enough away from the Child Unit so as not to get feedback. • Do not place the Parent Unit more than 1000' (304.8 m) away from the Child Unit. • If one channel has poor reception try the other channel. NOTE: It is possible for the Parent Unit to pick up sounds or interference from other signal producing devices including other audio or video monitors which broadcast in the 900 MHz range. To minimize this potential problem, two independent channels have been provided. If you experience interference while using one channel setting, simply switch the Parent Unit and Child Unit to another channel. Selecting a channel is usually a onetime adjustment. If interference persists on both channels, please refer to the Troubleshooting section at the end of these instructions. CAUTION: To protect your privacy, always turn the Child Unit off when not in use. Always remember that you are using public airwaves. Sound may be broadcast to other receiving devices. Conversations, even from rooms near by, may be broadcast. 08041 Quick Connection 10/9/03 11:25 AM Page 9 Troubleshooting Problem Parent Unit’s power indicator does not illuminate Possible Cause Parent Unit is not turned on Batteries are dead/ Power is turned off Solution Slide the button on the side of Parent Unit to the on position Make certain that any light switches that control the power flow to the wall outlet are on (when using AC) Make certain that house fuses and circuit breakers are on (when using AC) Parent Unit has no sound AC Adapter not properly connected Check AC Adapter jack-to-socket and plug-to-outlet connections Volume not turned up Adjust the volume control on the Parent Unit Check the channel switches on the Child Unit and Parent Unit to confirm they are on the same channel (I or II) Try the other channel Turn the Child Unit and Parent Unit off, wait a moment then turn them back on Bring Parent Unit closer to Child Unit Test reception by moving the Child Unit to different locations throughout the house Channel switches are not on the same setting (I or II) Signal interference due to monitors, cellular or cordless telephones, etc. Out of range Child Unit near metal concentration Audio feedback (squealing) Child Unit is too close to the Parent Unit Move the Child Unit further away from the Parent Unit Lower the volume on the Parent Unit Parent Unit not functioning or static or power LED is amber Batteries are low Wrong AC adapter used Not within 1000' (304.8 m) range Vibrate feature / talk feature not working If amber LED lights or no LED at all, change the batteries If you are not using batteries, be certain that you are using the correct AC adapter Move closer to the Child Unit Batteries are low Change the batteries Vibrate not switched to On position / talk button not held down while talking Not within 1000' (304.8 m) range Turn vibrate On / hold down talk button while you talk; let go to listen Move closer to the Child Unit NOTE: Do not return this product to the place of purchase. Should the product contain defects in material or workmanship Dorel Juvenile Group, Inc., will repair or replace the product, at our option, free of charge. Purchaser will be responsible for all costs associated with packaging and shipping the product to Dorel Juvenile Group Consumer Relations Department at the address noted below and all other freight or insurance costs associated with the return. Dorel Juvenile Group will bear the cost of shipping the repaired or replaced product to the purchaser. Product should be returned in its original package accompanied by a proof of purchase, either a sales receipt or other proof that the product is within the warranty period. This warranty is void if the owner repairs or modifies the product or the product has been damaged as a result of misuse. This warranty excludes any liability other than that expressly stated previously, including but not limited to, any incidental or inconsequential damages.
