As listening with a vol ume set a t a high position for a long time may d amage y our sense of hearing, m ake s ure t o listen to the music at a proper volume. Side View of t he Product Function Icons in Display Ins talling US B Driver Make sure to i nstall the USB dri ver befor e c onnecting it to the PC. When there appears “Add Ne w Hardwar e Wiz ard”, press th e “Canc el” button a nd install Upg rade M anager. If you inst all Upgrade Manager, the USB dri ver will be automatic ally i ns talled. Installing US B Driver Clic k “Next”. ► The dr i ver is rec ognized wi thout installation of a separate program u nder Windows ME, 2000, XP, but make sure to install it if Firmware U pgrade is requir ed. ► If Upg rade Manager is not installed under Win dows 98 SE, the pla yer cannot be recog nized as a removable disk. Ma ke sure to i nstall Upg rade Man ager. Insert Installation CD into CD-ROM Drive an d then click setup.exe in the folder of Upgrade Manag er. The installatio n will start. Cl ick ‘Next’ or ‘Yes” in s ubsequent wi ndows . When the i nstallati on has been done, connect it to the PC as shown in the next page. 10 11 Connecting Player to PC To download music files (M P3/WMA/ASF/OGG) from the PC, use USB ca ble to conne ct the MP 3 Player to the U SB port o f the PC. (Make s ure to use only USB cab le suppl ied with the MP3 Player. ) Manually Installing USB Install th e USB driver in th e following way wh en it is not reco gnized a s a removab le disk. If there do esn’t appear “EZMAX EZMP- 4100 USB Device" in “Dis k Dr ive” of Device Manager or “USB M ass Storage D evice”(Except Window 9 8SE) in Uni vers al Serial Bus Contr oller, or if there does a yellow exclamation mark or “Unknown D evice”, the driver has not been properl y i nstalled. In this c ase, manually install the driver. If an error has occurred while in stalling USB driver Chec k Devic e Manager. ▪ Windows 98SE/ME C ontrol Panel→System→Device M anager ▪ Windows 2000 (Profes si onal ) C ontrol Panel→System→Hardwar e →Device Manager ▪ Windows XP (Pr ofess ional ) C ontrol Panel→Performance and M aintenance→System →Hardware→Device M anager Connect ‘A’ of the cable to the USB port on the part o f the PC . Open the cover o f the USB port o n the pa rt of the player a nd connect ‘B’(a sm aller part) of the cable to the USB p ort. 12 Chec k whether ther e are any d evice with a exclamati on mar k or questi on mar k(unknown device or USB de vice) in D e vice Manager. 13 Manually Installing USB Manually Installing USB (Win 98SE) For W indows 98 SE Double click the device with a excl amation or question mark. Click ‘Ne xt’ in the s ubs equent windows. Designate the path for searc hing the driver file t o \Upgrad e M anager\Drivers of CD Drive. Pres s “Install D river Again”.. Clic k ‘Next’ in the s ubs equent wind ows. When searchi ng dri ver files as sho wn below, click th e “Browse” to s elec t C:\Winnt\Inf or C:\ Windows\Inf and pr ess “OK”. Pres s “Next”: in the s ubs equent windows to c omplete the installation of the USB dri ver. 14 Make sure to restart your system after installation is completed. 15 Using Re movable Disk Since the player is detected as a remov abl e disk on the par t of PC, y ou can eas il y upload, d ownload, or delete music files or fol der s in Wi ndo ws Expl orer without a separate manager pr ogram. Cop ying files t o Player(D ownload) 1) When you c onnect the player to the U SB c able , it is recognized as a removable dis k in Wi ndows Ex plorer. 2) C lick the re movabl e dis k to enter into a memory area of the pl a yer. 3) R un one more Windo ws explorer. Using Re movable Disk Ex port File( Upload) 1) Connecting the U SB cable to the P layer allo ws the P layer to be recognize d as a re movable disk in the Windo ws Explo rer. 2) Select the remova ble disk to have a ccess to the mem ory area of the Playe r. 3) Run one more Windows Ex plorer. 4) Select a file you want to export from the removab le disk, a nd then: ① Drag & drop to the disk to which y ou want to export. ② Or right-click the mouse to select Copy, and select a folder to which you wa nt to exp ort, and then right-click the mouse to select Paste. You can add or delete a folder in the W indows Explorer. 4) Selec t the fi le to s ave , ① Drag and drop it to the removable dis k. ② Or, right- click to selec t C opy. Designate the r em ovable di s k and rig htclick to sel ec t Paste. 5) T hen, ther e will app ear a file transfers window, indic ating that the file is being copi ed to the r emovable dis k. 16 Whe n you dow nload a music file t o the pl ayer, wait until there ap pears Read y on the dis pla y as s ho wn below. If you di sc onnect the USB cable dur ing DOWNLOAD or UPLOAD, the file may not be properly downl oaded. Chec k the display(READY) and then disc onnect the cabl e. R EADY Status DOW NLOAD 17 UPLOAD Using Re movable Disk Disconnecting USB Cable For mat Player 1) Formatting in the Window s ① Select the remo vable disk, and then right-click the mouse to select F ormat(Se lect “FAT ” as a file system). ② Click Start. (If y ou remov e the USB cable w hile form atting, the player could be damaged. Be sure to remove it after the formatting has b een done .) After com pleting file transfer, disconnect the USB c able i n the following way. Rig ht-click the r emovabl e hardwar e icon on the tas kbar of the des ktop, and then s elec t “Remov e Hardwar e Safely”. 2) Formatting in the Player ① Press th e MENU b utton to enter into th e menu mo de. button and the n press the ② Selec t t he File M anager with MEMU button to enter into Fi le Manage menu. After sel ecting the device to disconnec t, clic k “Stop” . ③ Select F ormat menu with VOL +/- button and then pres s the MENU button. ④ After s electi ng “C onfirm”, pr ess the M ENU button one more to s tart formatting. Î Î Î ※ Be car eful sinc e formatting will delete al l c ontents permanentl y. 18 19 Disconnecting USB Cable Clic k “OK” to c onfirm the device to stop. Upgradi ng Fir mware Downl oad the latest vers ion of firmware at our website ( www.ezm ax.co.kr) and unzi p it (u nzipped to 4 files .) Cop y the unzip ped lates t fir mware files into C:\Program Fi les\EZMAX\EZMP-4 100 folder . Execute Firmware Upgr ade manag er program. Clic k “OK” to r emove U SB c able. Wai t for the de vice to s earch. Con nect USB c able. ※ Abno rmally disconnecting the USB cable m ay resu lt in damag es or a failure to the p layer. The order of music files that app ears wh en you select a removable disk in W ind ows Exp lorer has nothing to do with the actual sequ ence in ac cordance with the playb ack. 20 21 Upgradi ng Fir mware Cl ick ”Start” to proceed Firmware Upgrade. Select “Data Area For matting” to d elete all t he files in the s ystem. Di sconnec ting the USB cable during Firmw are U pgr ade may result in malfuncti ons of t he player or the PC. Ins talling LDB Manager Insert the Installation CD into CD- ROM Driv e and clic k s etup.exe i n the fol der of LD B Manag er. Select a language to us e. Clic k “Next’ or ‘Yes” in the s ubs equent windows . Whe n the firm ware upg rade has been compl eted, cli c k “Close” and remo ve the USB cable(Refer to Disconnec ting USB Cabl e). 22 23 Using LDB Ma nager LDB Man ager is a program that autom aticall y enters the lyrics in MP 3 music files and can b e us ed wit hout conn ecting the player to PC. Using LDB Ma nager En ter Lyrics(Auto Search) ① Select the MP 3 fil e to enter the lyrics in the file list windo w, and pr ess “Enter Lyrics” on the to p menu. ② The l yric s er ver s earches for infor mati on about the l yrics accordi ng to informatio n about the rel evant files to automatic ally enter the l yrics. ▪The In ternet sho uld be av ailable so that it c an g et inf ormation about a lyric from the l yric server. ▪Lyrics are not marked for the VBR file sin ce time info rmation d oes not match. 24 ③ After the l yrics have been entered in, you can c hec k the l yric marki ng informatio n is displ a yed in the file list wind ow. ④ Play bac k in the preview windo w to c hec k i nfor mati on about th e l yrics. 25 Using LDB Ma nager En ter Lyrics (Manu al Search) ① Select the file to enter the l yrics and clic k the button on th e top menu. ② Enter the name of s i nger or ti tle of song to s earch for in Enter & Search Lyric wind ow and press the Se arch button. ③ The songs matching the ti me i nfor matio n, singer i nformation and title will be displayed. Click the M P3 file to chec k the l yrics to e nter in the right wind ow. Using LDB Ma nager Delete Lyr ics Select the MP3 file to del ete lyric s and press the infor mation. Manually Enter Lyr ics ① Select the file to enter the l yrics and press the button on the top me nu. ② Press Text Editor, enter the l yri cs you wan t and then clic k OK. ④ Press the Lyrics Marking button on the right bottom of the LDB search window to compl ete entering th e l yrics. 26 button to delete th eir 27 Using LDB Ma nager Basic Operation ③ Pres s Playbac k in the preview window and press the SYNC setting button at the point wher e there s hould appear one line of l yrics e diting wi nd ow. ④ When SYN C setti ng has been c ompleted , press the Lyrics Mar king window. Mo dify Lyri cs ① Select the MP3 file to modify lyrics and th en press t he button. ② Double clic k the are a to modif y l yrics so that you can modif y the l yrics or time. Di splay - Displays the operating status of the p roduct.. PLAY - Pre ss short to turn the power ON. - When listening to the music or the recorded file, pre ss short to pause the m usic, and then do so again to resum e the m usic. - When listening to the FM ra dio broad casting, press short to save the current station to the PRESET. - In a ny mode, press a nd hold to turn the power OFF. 28 29 Basic Operation Basic Operation VOL + - Each press on the button will incr eas e the v olume step by step. (c an be adjusted i n 0- 30 levels..) VOL – - W hen liste ning to the FM rad io, press short to move to the previous frequency while ke ep pressing to automatically search for the previous station. - In the PR ESET mo de, press short to move to the next PRESET number. - Each press on the button will dec rease the vol ume st ep by step. REC/A-B MENU - Pr ess short to enter int o the menu screen. - Pr ess and hold to enter into the navigation screen. - Pr ess short to s elect th e relevant item on the menu sc reen. - When listeni ng to a music or a rec orded file, press sh ort to mov e to the n ext music while keep press ing to fast move within the c ur rent played file. - Pr ess it shor t to move to the next menu scr een. - Pr es it short in FM radi o mode to increase the radio frequenc y step by step, and press an d hold to automaticall y s earch for the ne xt broadcas ting stati on. - Pr ess it to m ove to the next PRE SET numb er in the F M PRESET mode. - When listeni ng to a music or a rec orded file, press short to move to the previous music while keep pres sing to fas t move withi n the c urrent play ed fi le. - On the MEN U screen, press s hort to move to the pre vious men u item. 30 - During the playback, press short to specify the sectio n ‘A’ and do so again to specif y the se ction ‘B’ for the Repeat Section. And then another pressing short will cancel the Re peat Section. - W hen liste ning to the FM rad io, press and hold to record the rad io station. - Pr ess it short in FM R adio mode to execute AUTO PRESET and to search for a radio fr equenc y automatic all y. - Pr ess and hol d in the FM Radi o mode to s tart FM broadcas ti ng recordi ng, and press and hold it again to c omplete recor ding. HOLD - In the HOLD status, op eration of all buttons are loc ked down. - If you press any button while it is i n the HOLD status and the player is bei ng played, it di splays the message “HOLDING!”, stic king to its pre vi ous status . - If you press any button while it is in the HOLD status and the pl ayer is turned off, it displa ys the mes sage “HOLDING!”, s ticking to i ts power-off status. 31 Power O N/OF Playback Music File Power O N ◎ Press PLAY short to turn the power ON, and there will appear the logo on the disp lay, follo wed by which there appe ars a ve rsion of firmware , a total me mory and the me mory ava ilable to the Playe r. Î You c an play bac k a musi c file or fil es rec orde d in the pl ayer in the PLAY me nu. Press MENU s hort to m ove to the menu m ode. Select the PLAY menu and press MENU ag ain to mo ve to the menu. Î !N OTE: A total of memo ry an init ial bootin g shows may be less than its default memory s ince som e part of it is u sed t o drive th e system b y the firm ware. You c an sel ect TOTAL PLAY, N AVIG ATION PL AY, BOOKMARK PLAY, VOICE PLAY, FM PLAY, LIN E-IN PLAY using VOL+/- button. Press MENU to enter into a relevant playbac k mood. (1) TOTAL PLAY - TOTAL PLAY pla ys bac k all music files i n the memor y. Power Off Press and hold PLAY to turn th e power OFF while the logo G OODBYE is displ aye d. If you pr ess PLAY during th e playbac k, it will enter i nto its paus e. It will be automatic all y releas ed in the time you s et in advanc e if you do not pres s any button. (2) NAVIGATION PLAY) - Press MENU to enter i nto NAVIGATION PLAY where you c an see all the fol ders and m usic files i n the memor y. button. - Select the fol der or file you want to pl ay bac k usi ng the - Press PLAY to play bac k th e fol der or file you h ave s elect ed. Î 32 33 Playback Music File (3) BOOKMARK PLAY - Press MENU to enter into BOOKMARK PLAY where you can s ee the bookm ar k files. - Press PLAY to play bac k BOOKMAR K files alone. ▪ How to Set BOOKMAR K - While listening to music or in the p aus e status, pr ess and hold M ENU to e nter into the N AVIG ATION mode. - Selec t the file for BOOKM ARK and press MENU short t o bookmar k it. Anot her press ing it shor t to releas e the bookm ar k. Playback Music File Searching For File During the playbac k, press t he butto n to play bac k the previous/n ext file. In the paus e status , press the button to move to the previo us/next fil e. (If a functi on of Stud y is s et, it moves in acc ordanc e with the time you h ave s et.) Searching for Part During the playbac k, press an d hold you want. R eleas e i t to play b ac k normall y. button to q uickl y move to the ar ea Setting Repetition Section During the playbac k of music/rec orded files , press REC/A-B on the beginning of the section you want to listen to r epeatedl y. Î (4) VOIC E PLAY - Plays bac k voice-rec ording files. (5) FM PLAY - Plays bac k files in which F M radio br oadcasting is rec orded. (6) LINE-IN PLAY - Plays bac k all fil es with LIN E-IN enc oded. Press REC/A-B again on the ending of the sec tion . The sec tion will be r epeatedly played bac k. Press REC/A-B again to release the sec ti onal repetition. Adjusting Volume Press the VOL +/- button short to adjus t by 1 level, and press and hol d it to adjust continuousl y. T he v olume c an be adj usted from 0 to 30 level s. 34 35 Using Navigation Voice Recording/Listening Use the fu nction of Navigation to easily searc h for the file you want. Pres s and hold MENU to move to t he N avigation mode . Recording Voice During the playbac k or in the p aus e status, press and hold R EC to rec ord voice. Press it ag ain to sto p recor ding. Î Select the fol der or file you want to pl ay bac k. but ton : move to a upper fold er ▪ but ton : move to a lo wer fold er ▪ ▪ VOL+/- b utton : move to a file or a fold er in the same fold er ▪ MENU bu tton : move to a lower folder in the case of folder set BOOKM ARK in th e case of file Î (click M ENU button) Press PLAY to listen to the voi ce file you have just rec orded. ▪ It will be record ed in an order of V001, V002, … an d saved in the VOICE folder as W AV file after its recording. ▪ Voice recordin g will not work if it is in the F M RADIO mode or if the line-In cable is not co nnected. ▪ Voice recordin g will aut omatically stop if th e memor y is full. Listening to Voice Recording File In the PL AY menu, sel ect th e VOICE PLAY using the VOL+/- button and pr ess PLAY to play bac k the voic e recor ding fi le. Pres s PLAY to play bac k a s elected file. Î Î ※ Press and hol d MENU in the Navi gation mo de to rele ase. 36 37 MP3 Encoding /Listening Connect t he line-in port of the player an d the output port of an exter nal audi o de vice to the line-in cable. MP3 Encoding/Listening Bit Rate Setting In the M ENU mode, use the MENU button a nd button to s el ect SETTINGS → ENC ODING → BITRAT E and s elect one of 96/112/128 kbps. Î Î Î Auto Sync. Setti ng ▪ Do n ot listen to FM during the recording f rom an external device since it may cause a n oise. In the M ENU mode, use the MENU button a nd button to s el ect SETTINGS → EN CODING → AUTO SYNC TIM E and selec t one of OFF/2/3/4/5 SEC. Î ▪ If you want to record fro m a hom e audio d evice, our line-in cable may n ot work, and you need to s eparately purchase a lin e-in cab le. ▪ Enco ding ma y not be perform ed if th e line-In cable ha s not b een conn ected. Î Î ▪ Enco ding after setting t he volume of an extern al aud io device properly. Too h igh or lo w volume may deteriorate th e encoding sound q ualit y. 38 39 MP3 Encoding /Listening Listening to FM Radio Encoding When the music for encoding is pl ayed bac k from an external devic e, press a nd hold the R EC button on the part of the pl ayer to start enc oding. Press and hold it ag ain to s top encoding . In the MENU mode, sel ect FM RADIO menu and press the MENU button to m ove to FM RADIO mode. Î Î ▪ MON O/STEREO will b e automatically selected . ▪ It will be reco rded in an order o f L001, L 002, L003,… and s aved in the folder of LINE_ENC as M P3 file af ter its reco rding. ▪ Enco ding stop s if you d isconnect the line-in cable. ▪ Enco ding may not work if there isn’t suffic ient in the b attery g auge. Manual Tune In Press the button short to increas e/dec rease the frequenc y. Î Listening to Encoded Mu sic File In the PL AY menu, use the VOL+/- but ton to sel ect LINE-IN PLAY and then pr ess the PL AY button to play bac k enc oded files. Î Î 40 Auto Tu ne In Press and hold the button to tune i n th e frequenc y r ecei ve d. Î 41 Listening to FM Radio Listening to FM Ra dio Search for Saved Frequency(PRESET mode) Manuall y Save F requency After findi ng the frequenc y you want, pr ess and hold the M ENU butt on to display the frequenc y saving screen. Select the fr equenc y s aving number y ou want usi ng the button and press the MENU button. Î Î Press the PL AY button to display the PR ESET scr een. Move to th e frequenc y you want using button. Press it ag ain to hid e the PRESET screen. When you turn on, the volume value s a ved when you tur ned off last i s higher th an the defaul t volume, it will be the default volume. If it is lower than the d efault volu me, the volume s aved when you turn off is set to default vol ume. Set proper volume with button. The default volume c an be s et from 0 to 30. Î Auto Syn c Time Setting button. Set the AutoSync Ti me with AutoSync is a function to s eparate and save a MP3 file if there is no s ound dur ing the time s et in MP3 encodi ng. If you s et it to OFF, enc oding will not sto p even if there is no sound between songs recorded in MP3 encoding, but it is s ave d as one fi le. Unrecog nizable charact ers may be sho wn in the display. • Check if the language is properly set in the LANGU AGE menu. • Since the ID3 Tag of a so ng may be inc orrect, you should fi x it using suc h an audi o player prog ram as Wi namp. Radio s tation makes su ch a no ise as “boooo~ ” or “Ss aaaa~”, or its reception is bad. • Chang e the direction of the Playe r and its earphone. Please turn the power o f the electric appliances OF F near the Player. If the noise is reduced, use the P layer aw ay from them. • As an earphone plays a role as a n antenna to the p layer when listening to the radio sta tion, no e arphone may cause a poo r receptio n. 66 No sound or no ise is heard during the p layback. • Check if the m usic file is stored in the me mory. • Check if an earphone is properly plugged in. Or che ck if its j ack is contaminate d by foreign substances. • Check if the vo lume is set to “0”. • Dama ged data makes noise or breaks off the sound from the MP3 and WMA files. Re place it with othe r file to check if the data has be en damag ed. Cannot download files. • Check if the U SB cable is prope rly conne cted between the Player a nd PC. • Check if the USB driver is properly installe d. • Check if the me mory is sufficient.
