PC System Requirements Basic requirements should be satisfied to use this Player on your PC. CD-ROM Drive Hard Disk Space 20MB or above (An additional capacity may be required to save the music files.) 64MB RAM or above !NOTE: Memory spaces available may be less than those indicated above since the firmware uses some portions of the memory available to your PC for the operation by its system. As the high volume for a long time may damage the hearing, listen to music in moderate volume. Cleaning the Product… The chemical may discolor or damage the surface of the Player. Use the soft cloth to gently clean the Player. Warning: The Player uses a rechargeable built-in battery that may have a risk of heat, fire and explosion. - Do not place the Player near a fire, flame or heating devices. - Do not replace the battery. Front/Rear View of the Product Side View of the Product Function Icons in Display 10 Connecting Player to PC To download music files (MP3/WMA/AS/OGG) from the PC, use USB cable to connect the MP3 Player to the USB port of the PC. (Make sure to use only USB cable supplied with the Player.) Connect “A” (large) to the USB port of the PC. Connect “B” (small) to the USB port found when opening USB port plug on the Player. 11 Installing USB Driver Connecting USB cable to the Player shows the message “Wait” on the display of the Player. Î Î Before the installation After the installation Follow the instruction below for the PC of which OS is one of the Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. A screen appears with a message “New hardware is found” on the PC as shown below. Follow the instruction to install the driver. The installation may automatically be completed without showing the installation screen depending on the PC environment. An example here is for the WINDOWS 2000. 1) A message “Found New Hardware” appears. 12 Installing USB Driver 2) The “Add/Remove Hardware Wizard” is automatically started on the PC. Click ‘Next’. 3) In the “Install Hardware Device Drivers,” select “Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended),” and then click ‘Next’. 13 Installing USB Driver 4) Select “Specify a location” for the Optional Search Locations, and then click ‘Next’. 5) If “Copy manufacturer’s files from:” is C:\Winnt\Inf or C:\Windows\Inf, click ‘OK’. If the file is not in the C:\Winnt\Inf or C:\Windows\Inf, use ‘Browse…’ to select. 14 Installing USB Driver 6) In the “Driver File Search Results,” click ‘Next’. 7) Click ‘Yes’ to continue the installation of the USB Mass Storage Device. 15 Installing USB Driver 8) Click ‘Finish’ after completing the upgrade of the USB Mass Storage Device. 9) Click ‘Yes’ to continue the installation of the disk drive. 16 Installing USB Driver 10) Click [Start] – [Setting] – [Control Panel] to open “System” icon, and then click “Hardware” – “Device Manager” tab to check if USB driver is properly installed. !Note: The example of installing a driver above applies to a computer which adopts a removable disk for the first time. The specific installing process varies among users’ PC environments. In the event of the two devices in Device Administrator or the message “READY” being shown as above, the driver has been successfully installed. It takes some 30 ~ 60 seconds to install the driver among various PC’s. 17 Installing USB Driver (WIN98 SE) Windows 98SE will not support a removable disk drive. You shall install our Win98SE Driver to use under Windows 98SE. 1) Do not connect the USB cable to the Player until the following is completed. 2) Insert the installation CD into the CD-ROM drive. 3) Execute the file “setup.exe” under Win98SE_Driver folder to install the driver. 4) Click “Next” or “OK” on successive windows as you can see. 5) Connect the player to the USB cable if the installation has been completed. 18 Installing USB Driver (WIN98 SE) 6) Click [Start] – [Setting] – [Control Panel] to open “System” icon, and then click “Hardware” – “Device Manager” tab to check if USB driver is properly installed. !Note: The example of installing a driver above applies to a computer which adopts a removable disk for the first time. The specific installing process varies among users’ PC environments. In the event of the two devices in Device Administrator or the message “READY” being shown as above, the driver has been successfully installed. It takes some 20 ~ 30 seconds to install the driver among various PC’s. 19 Installing USB Driver (Confirmation) The installation of the USB driver is followed by connecting the USB cable of PC to the Player to execute “My Computer” or “Windows Explorer”, when you can see “Removable Disk” in My Computer or the message “READY” on the display of the Player. If then, you can enjoy the Player. If not, you should check Device Manager; in case you can’t see “EZMAX EZMP-5000 USB Device" in Disk Drive of Device Manager and “USB Mass Storage Device” of USB Controller (except for Windows 98SE), or in case there appears a yellow exclamation mark(!) or “Unknown Device”, the driver hasn’t been normally installed. You should re-install it. When re-installing the driver, delete the mark (!) or “Unknown Device” with the Player connected to the USB cable. And then repeat “USB Driver Installing”. When it doesn’t work normally In spite of that, you can refer to our website or contact us. 20 Using as a Removable Disk Unit As the PC recognizes the Player as a removable disk unit, you can easily download, upload or delete the music files and folders in the Windows Explorer without a separate Manager program. Copy File (Download) 1) Connecting the USB cable to the Player allows the Player to be recognized as a removable disk in the Windows Explorer. 2) Select the removable disk to access to the memory area of the Player. 3) Run one more Windows Explorer. 4) Select the file you want to save, and then: ① Drag & drop the file to the removable disk. ② Or click right mouse button to select Copy, and select the removable disk, and then click right mouse button to select Paste. 5) The file is copied to the removable disk, showing a graphic of the file transfer. 21 Using as a Removable Disk Unit Export File (Upload) 1) Connecting the USB cable to the Player allows the Player to be recognized as a removable disk in the Windows Explorer. 2) Select the removable disk to access to the memory area of the Player. 3) Run one more Windows Explorer. 4) Select the file you want to export from the removable disk, and then: ① Drag & drop the file to the disk to which you want to export. ② Or click right mouse button to select Copy, and select a folder to which you want to export, and then click right mouse button to select Paste. You can add or delete the folder in the Windows Explorer. When you download/upload a music file to/from the Player, please wait until Ready (or Charging) appears on the display. If you disconnect the USB cable while Access appears on the display, the file may not properly be download/upload to/from the Player. Make sure to check the display (Ready) before disconnecting the USB cable. Ready Charging… 22 Accessing… Using as a Removable Disk Unit Format Player 1) Formatting in the Windows ① Select the removable disk, and then click right mouse button to select Format (FAT32). ② Click Start (Do not disconnect the USB cable before completing the format. The Player may be damaged.) 2) Formatting in the Player ① Press MENU to enter into the MENU mode. ② Press MENU again to enter into the MAIN MENU. ③ Use VOL +/- button to select DELETE, and press MENU to enter into the delete mode. ④ Use VOL +/- button to select FORMAT, and press MENU. ⑤ Select “Yes,” and press MENU to start formatting. Î Î Î ※ Please note that the formatting will irrecoverably remove all contents of the Player. 23 Disconnecting USB Cable After completing the file transfer, follow the instruction below to disconnect the USB cable. Click right mouse button on the removable hardware icon in the taskbar to select “Unplug or Eject Hardware.” Select the device you want to disconnect, click “Stop.” 24 Disconnecting USB Cable Click “OK” to confirm the device to be disconnected. Click “OK,” and then disconnect the USB cable. ※ Abnormally disconnecting the USB cable may cause the damage or failure to the Player. The order of music files shown in the Windows Explorer does not indicate the order of playback. 25 Installing Transcoder Put the installation CD in the CD-ROM drive and then execute “setup.exe” in the folder “Transcoder”. You can see that TRANSCODER start being installed. To continue to install, click “Yes” or “Next” as shown on a serial of windows. 26 Using Transcoder ◎ Be sure to install the following 3 codecs before using Transcoder: ▪ Install a higher version than a version of DirectX 9.0. Download and then install a higher version than DirectX 9.0 from Download Center at the website www.microsoft.com. ▪ Install WMV 9 Download and then install a higher version than Windows Media Player 9.0 from Download Center at the website ‘www.microsoft.com’. ▪ Install Unified Codec Download and then install the latest version of K-lit codec pack at the website ‘www.free-codecs.com’. Execute Transcoder. Then, you can see the following main screen. 27 Using Transcoder Click ‘Open’ to select and open a transcodable motion picture. Click the tab ‘Video’ on the window as shown after clicking ‘Setup’. And then set up the size and image quality of the motion picture. 28 Using Transcoder Click the tab ‘Audio’ on the window as shown after clicking ‘Setup’. And then set up the sound quality of the motion picture. Click the tab ‘Path’ on the window as shown after clicking ‘Setup’. And then select or create a folder at which the transcoded motion picture will be saved. 29 Using Transcoder Click ‘Save As’ to set up a folder at which the transcoded motion picture will be saved. If you click ‘Transcoder’, the following figure will be created for its transcoding. ※ The transcoded motion picture is saved in MP4 format, which can be played back from the player in the same way as any other music files. 30 Upgrading Firmware Upgrade Firmware ◎ You can upgrade the Firmware to add/change the functions and improve the performance of the Player. The Firmware is an OS to drive the Player. How to upgrade the Firmware is as follows: (Upgrading the Firmware requires more than two scales of the battery gauge.) Click “MAIN MENU → SYSTEM→ SYSTEM INFO” to confirm the Firmware version of the Player. Î Î Î In an example above, 0.14 indicates the Firmware version (ex. 0.21, 0.31 …). Visit the company website (www.ezmax.co.kr) to check if there is an upgraded version available for the Player (EZMP-5000). If yes, download and save in the PC. (Please note that upgrading the Firmware with a version for the different model causes a serious failure.) Use the USB cable to connect the Player with the PC, and open a Windows Explorer to access to the “Removable Disk.” 31 Upgrading Firmware Copy the downloaded file (EZ5000.ROM) to the removable disk in the same manner of downloading the music file. (Download may not properly be completed until the message changes from “Access” to “Ready” on the display.) Disconnecting the Player from the PC shows the message “F/W UPGRADE” on the display while upgrading, and the power is automatically turned off when the upgrade is completed. (Make sure do not turn the power OFF the Player during the upgrade.) Upgrade Font ◎ Fonts are characters to show a file name, ID3 TAG information or the words of a song on the top part of the display during the playback. If no character appears on the display, you shall upgrade the Font file. Use the USB cable to connect the Player with the PC, and open a Windows Explorer to access to the “Removable Disk.” Copy the FONT.IWF file in the FONT folder on the installation CD supplied with the Player to the removable disk. After the message changes from “Access” to “Ready” on the display, disconnecting the Player from the PC shows the message “FONT UPGRADE” on the display while upgrading the font. 32 Upgrading Firmware Upgrade Icon ◎ Icons are images appeared on the display. If no image appears on the display, you shall upgrade the icon file. Use the USB cable to connect the Player with the PC, and open a Windows Explorer to access to the “Removable Disk.” Copy the EZICON.DAT file in the ICON folder on the installation CD supplied with the Player to the removable disk. After the message changes from “Access” to “Ready” on the display, disconnecting the Player from the PC shows the message “ICON UPGRADE” on the display while upgrading the icons. 33 Basic Operation DISPLAY - Display the operating status of the Player. PLAY Press and hold to turn the power on. In any mode, press and hold to turn the power off. In the NAVIGATION mode, briefly press to view File/Dir. Press to view jpg, txt and mp4 files. When listening to the music or the recorded file, briefly press to pause the music. Briefly press again to resume the music. - When listening to the FM radio, briefly press to set the MUTE mode. Briefly press again to cancel the MUTE mode. - During the record, briefly press to pause the recording. Briefly press again to resume recording. 34 Basic Operation VOL + - Press once at a time to increase the volume step by step (adjustable in 0-30 steps). Keep pressing to fast increase the volume. - In the MAIN MENU, briefly press to enter into the previous menu item. VOL – - Press once at a time to decrease the volume step by step (adjustable in 0-30 steps). Keep pressing to fast decrease the volume. - In the MAIN MENU, briefly press to enter into the next menu item. MENU - Briefly press to enter into the MENU mode. - Press and hold to enter into the NAVIGATION mode. - In the MENU mode, briefly press to select the present menu item, while press and hold to exit from the MENU. - When listening to the music or the recorded file, briefly press to move to the next music, while press and hold to fast move within the present playback file. Although the speed is up to x3, the sound is still audible. - In any mode, briefly press to move into the next menu item. - In the FM RADIO mode, briefly press to increase the frequency step by step, while press and hold to automatically search the next station. - In the FM PRESET mode, briefly press to move to the next preset number. - When listening to the music or the recorded file, briefly press to move to the previous music, while press and hold to fast move within the present playback file. Although the speed is up to x3, the sound is still audible. 35 Basic Operation - In any mode, briefly press to move into the previous menu item. - In the FM RADIO mode, briefly press to decrease the frequency step by step, while press and hold to automatically search the previous station. - In the FM PRESET mode, briefly press to move to the previous preset number. REC - During the playback, briefly press to specify the section ‘A,’ and briefly press again to specify the section ‘B’ for the Repeat Section. Briefly press again to cancel the Repeat Section. - When listening to the FM radio, press and hold to start recording the FM radio broadcasting. Press and hold again to stop recording. - When not listening to the FM radio, press and hold to start recording the sound through the LINE-IN cable in case the external device is connected to the Player, and press and hold to start recording the voice through the microphone in case no external device is connected to the Player. HOLD - Push the switch in the direction to the arrow to lock the operation of all buttons. Move the switch in the opposite direction to the arrow to cancel HOLD. - If you turn on the power to the Player that is on HOLD, the power remains off immediately after showing a HOLD message on the display. EQ - During the playback, briefly press to enter into the Playback mode. - During the playback, press and hold to add/delete the present file to/from the Bookmark List. - When listening to the FM radio, briefly press to save the selected preset number, while press and hold to delete the selected preset number. 36 Power ON/OFF Power ON Press and hold PLAY button to turn the power on. Logo appears on the display, which is followed by a system loading icon. The Player is in the PLAY mode when the system loading icon disappears from the display. ▪ If you turn on the power to the Player that is on HOLD, the power remains off immediately after showing a short message. Î Power OFF Press and hold PLAY button to turn the power off immediately after showing the logo on the display. During the playback, briefly press to pause the music. You can set the timer to automatically turn the power off. 37 Playback Music File ◎ You can playback the music file saved in the Player. Briefly press MENU button to enter into the MENU mode. Use button to select MUSIC menu, and then press MENU button again to play the saved music file. Search File During the playback, press button to playback the previous/next file. In the STOP mode, press button to move to the previous/next file. Search Part During the playback, press and hold button to fast search the part you want. Release the button to return to the normal playback. Although the speed is up to x3, the sound is still audible. Set Repeat Section During the playback, press REC button on the beginning of the section you want to repeatedly listen (A→). Press REC button again on the end of the section you want to repeatedly listen (A↔B). The section is repeatedly played. Press REC button to cancel the Repeat Section. Î 38 Using Navigation ◎ In the NAVIGATION mode, you can easily find a file you want. Press and hold MENU button to enter into the NAVIGATION mode. Î Select the folder or file that you want to playback. You can create and save folders and files in the ROOT folder. ▪ ▪ : Move to the upper folder. : Move to the subfolder and select/unselect the present file. You can playback or delete the selected file (in blue) in the BROWSE mode. ▪ VOL+/- : Move the file or folder in the same folder. In the SYSTEM folder: (1) LINE - Playback the files encoded through the external line. (2) LOGO - Store the image files for the electronic photo album. (3) RADIO - Playback the files recorded the FM radio broadcasting. (4) VOICE - Playback the files recorded the voice. 39 Using Navigation Press PLAY button to playback the selected file or the files in the selected folder. ※ In the NAVIGATION mode, press and hold MENU button to cancel the NAVIGATION. BROWSE In the NAVIGATION mode, briefly press MENU button to enter into the BROWSE menu. Cancel the BROWSE. Playback the file selected by button. Select all files in the present folder. Cancel all selected files View all music files. (excl. Line, Radio, Voice) View all files in the Bookmark List. 40 Using Navigation Delete present file or folder. View all selected files. Delete the selected file. (excl. Line, Radio, Voice) 41 Playback Bookmark List ◎ Playback the music files in the Bookmark List. Briefly press the MENU to enter into the MENU mode. Use button to select the BOOKMARK menu, and then press MENU again to play the music file in the Bookmark List. Î Add/Delete Bookmark During the playback or stop, press and hold EQ button to add the present music file to the Bookmark List, showing a message “BOOKMARK ADD” on the display. Press and hold EQ button again to delete the present music file from the Bookmark List, showing a message “BOOKMARK DEL” on the display. Save up to 50 files to the Bookmark List. If the Bookmark List is full, a message “BOOKMARK FULL” appears on the display. 42 View Image File ◎ View the saved image files (.jpg and .bmp). View Image File Press and hold MENU button to enter into the NAVIGATION mode, and select the folder containing the image file. In the image list, select the image file, and press PLAY button to view the image on the display. Briefly press VOL+/- button to view the next/previous image. ▪ Large image file may take longer to view the image on the display. ▪ You can create a new folder to save the image files. Î Î Î View Image Slide Show Save the image files to the LOGO folder in the SYSTEM folder to view groups of images as a slide show in 15 seconds interval. Press any key to exit from the slide show, and return to the PLAY mode. ▪ You must save the image files to the “LOGO” folder for a slide show. ▪ Slide show displays the JPG files only. 43 View Text File ◎ View the saved text files (.txt). View Text File Press and hold MENU button to enter into the NAVIGATION mode, and select the folder containing the text file. In the text list, select the text file, and press PLAY button to view the text on the display. Briefly press VOL+/- button to move up/down. Î Î ▪ During the playback the music, you can read the words of a song, information and electronic book. ▪ You can create a new folder to save the text files. 44 Playback Motion Picture ◎ Playback the saved motion picture files (MPEG4). Playback Motion Picture Press and hold MENU button to enter into the NAVIGATION mode, and select the folder containing the motion picture file. In the motion picture list, select the motion picture file, and press PLAY button to playback the motion picture on the display. Î Î ▪ This function is an option. For further information about the motion picture, please contact the dealer. ▪ If you click MENU while playing back a motion picture, the player is changed in the mode ‘View Entire Screen. If you click once again, it turned to its original status. ▪ You can create a new folder to save the motion picture files. ▪ Motion picture plays back the MPEG4 files only. (Transcoder) 45 Recording /Playback Voice Record Voice During the playback or pause, press and hold REC button to start recording the voice. Press and hold again to stop recording. Î During the record, briefly press PLAY button to pause the recording. If the noise is down, use the Player away from the electric appliances. As the earphone serves as an FM radio antenna, no earphone may cause the poor reception. 76 Troubleshooting No sound or noise is heard during the playback. • • • • Check if the music file is stored in the memory. Check if earphone is properly plugged in. Or, check if its terminal is contaminated by the foreign substance. Check if the volume is set to “0.” Damaged data makes noise or breaks off the sound in the MP3, WMA and OGG files. Replace it with other file to check if the data is damaged. Cannot download files. • • • Check if the USB cable is properly connected between the Player and PC. Check if the USB driver is properly installed. Check if the memory is sufficient.
