AB-CAU-500-GGGA Installation Instructions
IMPORTANT: Professional installation of this unit is required in order to comply with regulatory
requirements. Detailed software setup information is available only to properly trained
and qualified installation personnel. Contact FRC Internet Products, LLC for more
information.
Installation Instructions
The AB-CAU-500-GGGA Wireless Access Point w/Backhaul unit is designed to mount to a 1 ½”
– 1 ¾” diameter pole using the attached mounting clamp. Slide the clamp down the mounting pole (RF
connector side facing up) until the desired position is achieved, then tighten the two U-bolt nuts until the
unit is securely attached to the pole
Assemble and attach the enclosed weatherproof Ethernet connector per the included instructions
(Tyco Electronics Instruction sheet 408-8933). NOTE: Ethernet wiring to be standard wiring per
TIA/EIA-568-B
Connect the other end of the Ethernet wiring to the Ethernet POE injector. The POE injector
should be powered by the included POE power supply.
Connect RF cables and antennas. Antennas should be mounted per manufacturers instructions
included with the selected antenna. Unused RF connectors should be properly covered using a type “N”
dust cap or other suitable method. (Please note other installation notes listed below when installing
antennas).
Other important installation notes:
• When using RF cables, ensure the antenna base plate or frame is on the same grounding plane as
the CAU. Failure to do so may result in electrical damage to the radios
• Before connecting RF cables touch the center conductor and shield to the grounding plane. Always
connect the antenna first, ground or discharge the center conductor, then connect the CAU.
• Any RF connector threaded on upside down forming a 'cup' needs to be taped. Follow the
recommended torque instructions for the RF connectors and NEVER force a connector.
• Do not put the CAU where the surrounding air is stagnant. Heat pockets will form more readily
between the heat sync nodules creating an insulating affect.
• When finished installing, double check all bolts for tightness.
• If so desired, use the attached grounding lug to improve ground connections for the internal
Ethernet surge protector.
RF Exposure Information
The antennas used for this transmitter are 3 dBi max gain for radios #1-3 (802.11b/g) and
31.4.dBi max. gain for radio #4 (802.11a). Antennas for radios #1 -3 must be installed to provide a
separation distance of at least 20 cm from all persons while the antenna for radio #4 must provide a
distance of 330.75 cm from all persons. The radios must not be co-located or operating in
conjunction with any other antenna or transmitter.
