ecoRoute ESP Instructions
The ecoRoute ESP device connects to your vehicle’s OBD
II (On-Board Diagnostics) connector. The ecoRoute ESP
device sends data wirelessly to a compatible Garmin GPS
device.
OBD II Connector Location
The location of the OBD II connector varies for each
vehicle. For the best view of the connector, open the driver
door and kneel.
The following are common
locations in which to look for the
OBD II connector:
The OBD II connector is often below the steering
column, between the center console and the drivers
door.
The OBD II connector might be under a labeled cover.
Remove or open the cover to access the connector.
The OBD II connector might be under or behind the ash
tray or near the power outlet in the center console.
Installing the ecoRoute ESP Device
WARNING
When installing the device in a vehicle, install the device
securely so it does not interfere with the vehicle operating
controls, such as the foot pedals. Interfering with the
vehicle operating controls can result in an accident, which
could result in injury or death.
Before installing the ecoRoute ESP device, you must nd
the OBD II connector in your vehicle.
1. Connect the ecoRoute ESP connector to the OBD II
connector in the vehicle.

2. Use the cable ties to secure the ecoRoute ESP device
and cable to the vehicle.

Customizing the Cable Angle
If the vehicle requires the cable to be at an angle from the
connector, you can use the cable ties to customize the cable
for the installation.
1. Bend the cable around the
connector to suit the installation.
2. Use a cable tie to secure the
cable to the connector to t a
variety of installation situations.
Wirelessly Connecting with a Garmin
GPS Device
Before wirelessly connecting to a GPS device, you must
install the ecoRoute ESP device.
1. Start the vehicle.
The LED turns green when the ecoRoute ESP device is
communicating with your vehicle.
2. Turn on the GPS device.
3. Bring the GPS device within 10 meters (33 feet) of the
ecoRoute ESP device.
4. From the Tools menu, touch ecoRoute > ESP
Connection.
The LED turns blue when the ecoRoute ESP device is
connected to your GPS device.
About the Wireless Connection to the GPS
Device
The ecoRoute ESP device and the GPS device
automatically connect when they are turned on and are
within 10 meters (33 feet) of each other.
When it is not connected to a GPS device, the ecoRoute
ESP device records the vehicle information and sends the
data to the GPS device the next time they connect.

Viewing ecoRoute ESP Data
On your GPS device, touch Tools > ecoRoute.
About the LEDs
The LED on the top of the ecoRoute ESP device indicates
the connection status:
LED Meaning
Green ashing Connecting to the vehicle.
Green solid Communicating with the
vehicle.
Blue solid Communicating with the
vehicle and a GPS device.
Resetting the ecoRoute Device
Reset the ecoRoute device if it stops functioning.
Press and release the Reset key to rest the device.
Press and hold the Reset key for 3 seconds to restore the
factory settings.
NOTE: When restoring the factory settings, the
wireless connection information and recorded vehicle
information will be deleted.
FCC Compliance
This device complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules.
Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1)
this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this
device must accept any interference received, including
interference that may cause undesired operation.
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with
the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to part 15
of the FCC rules. These limits are designed to provide
reasonable protection against harmful interference in a
residential installation. This equipment generates, uses, and
can radiate radio frequency energy and may cause harmful
interference to radio communications if not installed
and used in accordance with the instructions. However,
there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a
particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful
interference to radio or television reception, which can be
determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is
encouraged to try to correct the interference by one of the
following measures:
Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
Increase the separation between the equipment and the
receiver.
Connect the equipment into an outlet that is on a
different circuit from the GPS unit.
Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV
technician for help.
This product does not contain any user-serviceable parts.
Repairs should only be made by an authorized Garmin
service center. Unauthorized repairs or modications could
result in permanent damage to the equipment, and void your
warranty and your authority to operate this device under
Part 15 regulations.

Category I radiocommunication devices comply with
Industry Canada Standard RSS-210. Category II
radiocommunication devices comply with Industry Canada
Standard RSS-310.
