Introduction WARNINGSee the Important Safety and ProductInformation guide in the product box forproduct warnings and other importantinformation.Always consult your physician before youbegin or modify any exercise program.Getting StartedWhen using your device the first time, youshould complete these tasks to set up thedevice and learn about the basic features.1Install your device using the standardmount (page 3) or the out-frontmount (page 4).2Turn on the device (page 4).3Locate satellites (page 6).4Go for a ride (page 7).5Charge the device (page 2).6Register the device (page 14).7Upload your ride to Garmin Connect™(page 7).8Get the owner's manual (page 15).Charging the DeviceNOTICETo prevent corrosion, thoroughly dry themini-USB port, the weather cap, and thesurrounding area before charging orconnecting to a computer.The device is powered by a built-inlithium-ion battery that you can chargeusing a standard wall outlet or a USB porton your computer.NOTE: The device will not charge whenoutside the temperature range of 32° to113°F (0° to 45°C).1Pull up the weather cap À from themini-USB port Á.2
2Plug the small end of the USB cableinto the mini-USB port.3Plug the USB end of the cable into theAC adapter or a computer USB port.4Plug the AC adapter into a standardwall outlet.When you connect the device to apower source, the device turns on.5Charge the device completely.A fully charged battery can run for up to15 hours before it must be recharged.Installing the Standard MountFor the best GPS reception, position thebike mount so the front of the Edge isoriented toward the sky. You can installthe bike mount on the stem or thehandlebars.1Select a secure location to mount theEdge where it does not interfere withthe safe operation of your bike.2Place the rubber disk À on the backof the bike mount.The rubber tabs align with the back ofthe bike mount so it stays in place.3Place the bike mount on the bikestem.4Attach the bike mount securely usingthe two bands Á.5Align the tabs on the back of the Edgewith the bike mount notches Â.6Press down slightly and turn the Edgeclockwise until it locks into place.3
Installing the Out-Front Mount1Select a secure location to mount theEdge where it does not interfere withthe safe operation of your bike.2Use the hex key to remove the screwÀ from the handlebar connector Á.3If you want to change the orientationof the mount, remove the two screwson the back side of the mount Â,rotate the connector Ã, and replacethe screws.4If the handlebar diameter is 26 mm,place the rubber pad around thehandlebar.5Place the handlebar connector aroundthe rubber pad or handlebar (31.8 mmdiameter).6Replace the screw.NOTE: Garmin® recommends atorque specification of 7 lbf-in. (0.8 N-m). Check the tightness of the screwperiodically.7Align the tabs on the back of the Edgewith the bike mount notches Ä.8Press down slightly and turn the Edgeclockwise until it locks into place.Releasing the Edge1Turn the Edge clockwise to unlock thedevice.2Lift the Edge off the mount.Turning On the DeviceThe first time you turn on the device, youare prompted to configure system settingsand profiles (page 13).1Hold  .4

Bike 1 Select to change your bikeprofile.RIDE Select to go for a ride.Road  Select to change your activityprofile.Select to manage your history,courses, workouts, andpersonal records.Select to view the map.Select to view the setup menu.Using the Touchscreen• When the timer is running, tap thescreen to view the timer overlay.The timer overlay allows you to usethe settings and search featuresduring a ride.•Select   to save your changes andclose the page.• Select   to close the page and returnto the previous page.• Select   to return to the previouspage.5
• Select   to return to the homescreen.• Select   and   to scroll.• Select   to view the connectionspage.• Select   to search for a location.• Select   to search near a location.• Select   to search by name.• Select   to delete an item.Viewing the Connections PageThe connections page displays the statusof the satellite signals, ANT+ sensors, andyour smartphone.From the home screen, select thestatus bar at the top of the page.The connections page appears. Aflashing icon means the device issearching. You can select any icon tochange the settings.Acquiring Satellite SignalsBefore you can use the GPS tracking andnavigation features, you must acquiresatellite signals.The device may need a clear view of thesky to acquire satellite signals. The timeand date are set automatically based onthe GPS position.1Go outdoors to an open area.6
The front of the device should beoriented toward the sky.2From the home screen, select RIDE.3Wait while the device locatessatellites.It may take 30–60 seconds to locatesatellite signals.TIP: Do not begin moving until thetimer page appears (page 7).Going for a RideBefore you can record speed anddistance, you must locate satellite signals(page 6) or pair your device with anoptional ANT+ sensor.NOTE: History is recorded only while thetimer is running.1From the home screen, select RIDE.2Wait while the device locatessatellites.3Select   to start the timer.4Swipe the screen for additional datapages.5If necessary, tap the screen to viewthe timer overlay.6Select   to stop the timer.7Select Save.Sending Your Ride to GarminConnectNOTICETo prevent corrosion, thoroughly dry themini-USB port, the weather cap, and thesurrounding area before charging orconnecting to a computer.7

You can invitefollowers using email or social media,allowing them to view your live dataon a Garmin Connect tracking page.Activity upload toGarmin Connect:Automatically sends your activity toGarmin Connect as soon as you finishrecording the activity.Course and workout downloadsfromGarmin Connect: Allows you tosearch for activities on GarminConnect using your smartphone andsend them to your device so that youcan repeat them as a course orworkout.Social media interactions: Allows you toautomatically post an update to yourfavorite social media website whenyou upload an activity to GarminConnect.Weather updates: Sends real-timeweather conditions and alerts to yourdevice.Following a Course From the WebBefore you can download a course fromGarmin Connect, you must have a GarminConnect account (page 8).1Connect the device to your computer.2Go to www.garminconnect.com.3Create a new course or select anexisting course.4Select Send to Device.5Disconnect the device, and turn it on.6Select   > Courses.7Select the course.8Select RIDE.LocationsYou can record and store locations in thedevice.Saving Your LocationYou can save your present location, suchas your home or parking spot.9
From the home screen, select   >System > GPS > Mark Location >.HistoryHistory includes time, distance, calories,speed, lap data, elevation, and optionalANT+ sensor information.NOTE: History is not recorded while thetimer is stopped or paused.When the device memory is full, amessage appears. The device does notautomatically delete or overwrite yourhistory. Upload your history to GarminConnect periodically to keep track of allyour ride data.Viewing Your Ride1From the home screen, select   >Rides.2Select Last Ride or All Rides.3Select an option.Deleting History1From the home screen, select   >Delete.2Select an option:• Select All Rides to delete allsaved activities from the history.• Select Old Rides to deleteactivities recorded more than onemonth ago.• Select All Totals to reset alldistance and time totals.NOTE: This does not delete anysaved activities.• Select All Courses to delete allcourses you have saved ortransferred to the device.• Select All Workouts to delete allworkouts you have saved ortransferred to the device.• Select All Personal Records todelete all personal records savedto the device.NOTE: This does not delete anysaved activities.3Select  .ANT+ SensorsYour device can be used with wirelessANT+ sensors. optional sensors, go to http://buy.garmin.com.Putting On the Heart Rate MonitorNOTE: If you do not have a heart ratemonitor, you can skip this task.You should wear the heart rate monitordirectly on your skin, just below yourbreastplate. It should be snug enough tostay in place during your activity.1Snap the heart rate monitor module Àonto the strap.2Wet both electrodes Á on the back ofthe strap to create a strong connectionbetween your chest and thetransmitter.3If the heart rate monitor has a contactpatch Â, wet the contact patch.4Wrap the strap around your chest, andconnect the strap hook à to the loop.The Garmin logo should be right-sideup.5Bring the device within range (3 m) ofthe heart rate monitor.After you put on the heart rate monitor, itis on standby and ready to send data.TIP: If the heart rate data is erratic ordoes not appear, you may have to tightenthe strap on your chest or warm up for 5–10 minutes.Installing the GSC 10NOTE: If you do not have a GSC 10, youcan skip this task.Both magnets must be aligned with theirrespective indication lines for the Edge toreceive data.1Place the GSC 10 on the rear chainstay (on the side opposite the drivetrain).2If necessary, place the flat rubber padÀ or the triangle-shaped rubber padbetween the GSC 10 and the chainstay for stability.11
3Loosely attach the GSC 10 using twocable ties Á.4Attach the pedal magnet  to thecrank arm using the adhesive mountand a cable tie Ã.The pedal magnet must be within 5mm of the GSC 10. The indication lineÄ on the pedal magnet must line upwith the indication line Å on the GSC10.5Unscrew the spoke magnet Æ fromthe plastic piece.6Place the spoke in the groove of theplastic piece, and tighten it slightly.The spoke magnet can face awayfrom the GSC 10 if there is notenough room between the sensor armand the spoke. The spoke magnetmust line up with the indication line Çon the sensor arm.7Loosen the screw È on the sensorarm.8Move the sensor arm to within 5 mmof the spoke magnet.You can also tilt the GSC 10 closer toeither magnet to improve alignment.12
9Select Reset É on the GSC 10.The LED turns red, then green.10 Pedal to test the sensor alignment.The red LED blinks each time thepedal magnet passes the sensor. Thegreen LED blinks each time the spokemagnet passes the sensor arm.NOTE: The LED blinks for the first 60passes after a reset. Select Resetagain if you require additional passes.11 When everything is aligned andworking correctly, tighten the cableties, the sensor arm, and the spokemagnet.Garmin recommends that the torque is1.9 to 2.4 lbf-in. (0.21 to 0.27 N-m) toensure a water tight seal on the GSC10 sensor arm.Training with Power Meters• Go to www.garmin.com/intosports fora list of third-party ANT+ sensors thatare compatible with your device.• For more information, see yourowner's manual.Customizing the DeviceProfilesThe Edge has several ways for you tocustomize the device including profiles.Profiles are a collection of settings thatoptimize your device based on how youare using it. For example, you can createdifferent settings and views for trainingand mountain biking.When you are using a profile and youchange settings such as data fields orunits of measurement, the changes aresaved automatically as part of the profile.Bike Profiles: You can create bikeprofiles for each bike you own. Thebike profile includes optional ANT+sensors, bike weight, wheel size,odometer value, and crank length.Activity Profiles: You can create activityprofiles for each type of biking. Forexample, you can have a profile fortraining, racing, and mountain biking.The activity profile includescustomized data pages, alerts,training zones (such as heart rate andspeed), training settings (such as13
Auto Pause and Auto Lap), andnavigation settings.User Profile: You can update yourgender, age, weight, height, andlifetime athlete settings. The deviceuses this information to calculateaccurate ride data.Customizing the Data PagesYou can customize data pages for eachactivity profile (page 13).1From the home screen, select   >Activity Profiles.2Select a profile.3Select Training Pages.4Select a data page.5If necessary, enable the data page.6Select the number of data fields youwant to see on the page.7Select  .8Select a data field to change it.9Select  .TroubleshootingRegistering Your DeviceHelp us better support you by completingour online registration today.• Go to http://my.garmin.com.• Keep the original sales receipt, or aphotocopy, in a safe place.Resetting the DeviceIf the device stops responding, you mayneed to reset it.
