GDL 82 Pilot's Quick Start Guide GDL 82 SYSTEM The GDL 82 is a UAT ADS-B transmitter that integrates with the aircraft’s existing transponder, creating an ADS-B Out compliant solution for flight in the U.S. below 18,000 feet. NOTE When the aircraft is on any airport movement area, the transponder should be in Altitude Reporting (ALT) mode. TRANSPONDER OPERATING MODE GDL 82 SYSTEM FEATURES GDL 82 Series Optional ADS-B Out Fail Annunciator • Optional Anonymous Mode • Interrogates the interfaced transponder to obtain squawk codes, IDENT status, and pressure altitude • Transmits ADS-B Out messages to ATC and other aircraft • GDL 82 w/ GPS/SBAS • OFF - Turned off or no power STBY (standby) ON - Non-altitude reporting ALT (altitude reporting) GDL 82 OPERATION ADS-B OUT MESSAGES Do not transmit. Do not transmit. Do not provide pressure altitude information. Provide all required information. NOTE If filing a flight plan or requesting ATC services, do not use Anonymous Mode. Unit functions as its own position source for ADS-B Out messages ENABLE ANONYMOUS MODE 1. Set the Anonymous Mode switch to the enabled position. 2. Set the transponder to squawk VFR code 1200. OPTIONAL ADS-B OUT FAIL ANNUNCIATOR An illuminated annunciator lamp indicates the unit is not transmitting ADS-B Out messages. Or, messages do not contain all required information.
