Troubleshooting My wireless audio accessory will not pair with the Bluetooth Adapter. Follow the instructions to place the Bluetooth Adapter into the correct pairing mode and then activate the pairing mode on the accessory. Ensure that the Bluetooth Adapter and accessory being paired are within one meter of each other, and that the BT accessory is a Harris-supported BT device. My wireless audio accessory worked before, but is not working now. Ensure the Bluetooth Adapter is properly connected to the radio and that the radio is turned on. Ensure that your wireless audio accessory has a fully charged battery and is turned on. If the device still does not work, re-pair the Bluetooth Adapter to the wireless accessory. My Bluetooth Adapter is connected to my radio, but I cannot transmit with my radio. Ensure you have a Bluetooth Audio Device paired with the adapter for proper transmit and receive functionality. Introduction The Harris Bluetooth (BT) adapter allows you to use a compatible Harris wireless headset or other audio accessory with your radio. Harris recommends the use of Harris-branded BT Accessories. Any other BT Devices are not guaranteed to work with this Harris Adapter. Supported Radios The following Harris radios support the Bluetooth adapter: P5300 P5400 P5500 P7300 XG-75P/Pe XG-15P Status LED Messages 1 flash every 4 seconds Normal operation 2 flashes per second Audio accessory pairing mode active 1 long flash for 3 seconds Successfully paired or re-paired No indication Radio is turned off Controls and Connections Quick Start 1. Connect the Bluetooth Adapter to a compatible Harris portable radio. 2. Pair the Bluetooth Adapter with a compatible wireless audio accessory. 3. Test and use. Connecting the Adapter to the Radio 1. Always turn off the radio before connecting the Bluetooth Adapter to the radio. 2. Plug the Bluetooth Adapter into the radio’s UDC port. 3. Tighten the retaining screw. 4. Turn on the radio. The radio operates normally until a wireless audio accessory is paired with the Bluetooth Adapter. See next section for pairing directions. 5. The Pair/PTT button on the BT Adapter functions as a PTT button when paired with a Bluetooth accessory. The radio’s internal microphone and speaker are disabled as long as the Bluetooth Adapter is paired with a Bluetooth accessory. Pairing with an Audio Accessory 1. Turn off the radio to which the Bluetooth Adapter is connected. Wait at least three seconds. 2. Turn the radio on while holding down the Pair/PTT button on the Bluetooth Adapter. 3. Continue to hold the Pair/PTT button down for approximately five seconds. Release the Pair/PTT button when the status LED begins to flash two times per second. 4. The Bluetooth Adapter is now in audio accessory pairing mode. Activate the pairing mode on your compatible wireless audio accessory. 5. Once the wireless audio accessory and Bluetooth Adapter are paired, the status LED on the adapter shows a constant blue light for three seconds. 6. If the Bluetooth Adapter does not detect a compatible wireless accessory within 60 seconds of being put into pairing mode, the adapter exits pairing mode and resumes normal operation. 7. Once successfully paired, you can operate your radio using your compatible wireless accessory. Transmit and Receive Operation The Harris Bluetooth Adapter automatically routes radio calls based on the following priority: • Calls will be routed to a wireless accessory if one is paired with Bluetooth Adapter. • If no wireless headset or audio accessory is paired to the Bluetooth Adapter, the wireless accessory is turned off, or the wireless Bluetooth accessory is out of range, the radio reverts to normal operation and audio comes out of the radio’s speaker. NOTE: When a new accessory is connected, paired, disconnected, or powered off, it may take several seconds for the audio from received radio calls to be routed appropriately. Transmit and Receive Operation (Cont.) When transmitting, the operator’s voice is picked up by: • The microphone in the wireless headset or audio accessory if one is paired. • If no audio accessory is paired with the Bluetooth Adapter, or the paired wireless audio accessory is turned off or moved out of the Bluetooth Adapter’s range, the internal microphone in the attached radio is used. The Bluetooth Adapter may temporarily mute the radio’s speaker, causing incoming calls to be missed, in any of the following situations: • The adapter is attached to the two-way radio and no wireless headset or wired accessory is paired. • The wireless headset is turned off or runs out of battery power. • The wireless headset goes out of range of the Bluetooth adapter. NOTE: This mute state only occurs until the BT timeout (5 seconds) is reached or BT is disabled.
