WARNING: - LITHIUM BATTERIES
If baeries are exposed - do not short circuit, re-charge, puncture, incinerate, crush, immerse,
force discharge or expose to temperatures above the declared operang temperature range
of the product. Risk ofre or explosion. These baeries are sealed units which are not
hazardous when used according to the recommendaons of the manufacturer.
2. CONNECTIONS
The Encoder Transmier has a 4-core cable for connecng a water meter or Permalog+. The

ENCODER TRANSMITTER QUICK START GUIDE
This guide covers only the most basic operaons including connecons and commissioning.
1. INTRODUCTION
The Encoder Transmier can read the data and idencaon informaon from water meters
using the Sensus or Neptune protocols, or from a Permalog+ leak detector.
The reading interval is factory set to 1, 5, 10 or 15 minutes. Every me the data is read the
meter reading or leak informaon is transmied via the VHF radio.
Aer every 96 readings (24 hours at 15 mins) two supplementary messages are transmied
with idencaon informaon, including the meter’s serial number. These supplementary
messages can also be triggered via a magnet during commissioning or servicing.
3. INSTALLATION
The opmum operang temperature is between –10°C and +40°C. We cannot
guarantee the maximum life; therefore it is recommended to keep within the opmum
operaon temperature range for maximum baery performance. Operang in extreme
environmental condions will degrade the life-me of the baery.
V2 CASE (GREY WEDGE)
For maximum transmission range the transmier should be mounted upright so that the
antenna is vercal, and should be kept clear of obstrucons, parcularly metallic
surfaces. Mounng brackets are available to t the cavity in the rear of the transmier.
PIT CASE (BLUE WITH MAGNETIC MOUNT)
The transmier is intended to be ed to the underside of a pit lid using the magnet on
the top of the case. Plasc lids will require a metal plate to be ed to the lid.
4. OPERATION
The reading interval of the Encoder Transmier is factory set to 1, 5, 10 or 15 minutes. Every
me the data is read the meter reading or leak informaon is transmied via the VHF radio.
Aer every 96 readings (24 hours at 15 mins) two supplementary messages are transmied
with idencaon informaon, including the meter’s serial number. These supplementary
messages can also be triggered via a reed switch during commissioning or servicing.
The reed switch is located under the bar code of the label and can be triggered by swiping a
magnet across this area. This will cause three messages to be transmied approximately
2 seconds apart. This can be veried using an RF scanner tuned to the transmission
frequency. When transming a burst or blip can be heard.
FCC WARNING STATEMENT
This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operaon is subject to the following two
condions:
(1) This device may not cause harmful interference, and
(2) This device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause
undesired operaon.
This equipment complies with FCC radiaon exposure limits set forth for an uncontrolled
environment. End users must follow the specic operang instrucons for sasfying RF
exposure compliance. This transmier must not be co-located or operang in conjuncon
with any other antenna or transmier.
Changes or modicaons not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance
could void the user's authority to operate the equipment
5. COMMISSIONING
The transmier serial number should be noted along with the corresponding water meter or
Permalog+ number, and the site locaon.
When the water meter or Permalog+ is rst connected or changed during servicing, the
transmier’s reed switch should be triggered to iniate a data read and transmission of the
data and supplementary messages, which include important idencaon informaon.
DATAGATE CONFIGURATION
If the transmier is to be used with DataGate then it must be congured with the water
meter’s or Permalog+’s serial number rather than that of the transmier.
Water Meter: Select RTL Encoder Transmier for the logger type.
The mobile number must be of the format 4420829XXXXXXXX where
XXXXXXXX is the meter’s serial number. If the serial number is shorter than 8
digits then le pad it with 0’s so that the total length is 15 digits.
Permalog+: Select Permalog for the logger type.
The mobile number must be of the format 4406400XXXXXXXX where
XXXXXXXX is the Permalog+’s serial number. The total length must be 15
digits.
