It is at the right side of your phone. You

It is at the right side of your phone. You
can connect the headset to it.
External Screen
Your phone has an external screen on the outside of the flip. The
external screen indicates the following:
l If you charge the phone when it is powered off, the charging
status is displayed in animation.
l In the standby mode, when you close the flips, the time is
displayed on external screen.
l When a message is received or sent, the receiving or sending
animation is displayed.
l When an alarm clock alarms, an animated icon is displayed.
l When the phone alerts for a scheduled calendar, an animated
icon is displayed.
l When a call ends, Ending is displayed.

Charging the Battery
To charge the battery, do as follows:

you select it, the other party can hear your voice again.
This function is available only after the call is set up. You
cannot mute/unmute the ringtone.

Save Number: Allows you to save the phone number to
Contacts.
Contacts: Allows you to enter the Contacts menu.
Messages: Allows you to enter the Messages menu.
Call Memo: Allows you to enter the Call Memo menu.
Voice Privacy: Allows you to protect your calls from being
overheard. You can choose either of the two modes, Standard
and Enhanced. The Voice Privacy function is network
dependent.
TTY Setup: Allows you to set the TTY mode.

Entering English
n Alphabetical Text Input ("Abc")
The alphabetical text input allows you to enter English letters. You
can press a number key labeled with required letters once to enter
the first letter on the key, twice to enter the second letter on the
key, and so on.

If the letter you want to enter is on the same key as the previous
one, you can enter the latter only after the cursor appears again, or
after you move the cursor to the next space.
In the "Abc" input mode:
l You can press
once to enter a space, twice to enter "0".
You can press
repeatedly to enter the commonly used
punctuations.
n Smart English Input ("En")
The "En" input mode recognizes commonly used words according
to the numeric sequence of key presses. It requires only one key
press for each letter in the word that you are entering. If more than
one word shares the same numeric sequence, then the "En" input
mode provides the most commonly used words. Among the
possible words, you can press

5 Message
Writing and Sending a Message
1. In the standby mode, choose Menu > Messages > Create
Message. You can also access the Create Message menu by
pressing and holding
for about two seconds in the
standby mode.

(Options) for the following options:

l Send: Allows you to send the message.
l Save: Allows you to save the message as a draft.
l Insert Quick Text: Allows you to edit the message based on a
template.
l Insert Contact: Allows you to insert the phone number of a
contact into a message from Contacts.
l Priority: Allows you to set the priority for messages. The
message priority function is network dependent.
l Callback Number: Allows you to set the callback number.
The callback number is sent to the message recipient by default.
You can set it to either your phone number or other numbers.
When the recipient receives your message, the callback number
can be viewed for calling back.
Select On and enter the phone number.
3. When entering the number(s) of the recipients, you can choose
Options > Contacts to select the number of one contact in
Contacts, or choose Options > Group List to select the
numbers of a group of contacts.

Reading a Message
To read a message stored in the inbox, do as follows:

Adding a Contact
1. In the standby mode, choose Menu > Contacts > Add New.

Home Number, Office Number, and Fax Number (at least
one number field is required.). You can enter the E-mail of a
new contact and select the Group, Notes, and Custom Tone
for the contact.

Searching for a Contact
1. In the standby mode, choose Menu > Contacts > Search.

With Mobile Shop, you can download full featured applications
over the air including games, personalized ring tones, pictures, and
more. You can send and receive instant messages and email, or
browse the web to catch up on all the latest news.
This section outlines how to obtain games and other applications
for your phone. For more information about this function, consult
your service provider.
Accessing @metro
n Applications Shopping and Downloading
Download games, ring tones, e-mail, and more using the Mobile
Shop. For information on airtime charges, consult your service
provider.
1. In the standby mode, press

phone takes a moment to connect, then the Mobile Shop
Catalog menu appears in the display.
The first time you access the Mobile Shop, an “airtime
warning” message appears in the display along with
instructions on how to remove this message.

Changing Your @metro Settings
Use the Settings menu in Mobile Shop to manage, move, order
applications, and much more.

l Move Apps: Move previously downloaded applications
between available folders.

Mobile Shop menu in a list or icon format.
l View Log: View the Mobile Shop log, which displays
information about recent activity using Mobile Shop.

n Buying New Apps
To buy new and exciting apps, visit the Mobile Shop. It provides
you with a variety of apps you can choose from.
n What do I pay?
When you buy an app, you will be charged for the purchase cost
of the app.
n Demo Apps
A Demo app is free and is designed to demonstrate the app’s main
features. It usually expires after a certain period of time or a
number of uses and often has limited functions. When you run a
demo app, you will be presented with a purchase option so you
won’t have to look for the app in the Mobile Shop.
n Removing Apps
You may remove apps that are no longer needed. When you
remove an app, you cannot use the application unless you
purchase it again. To remove an app, choose Settings > Manage
Apps. Then, select the app you want to remove.
n Disabled Apps
You can install new apps even if the memory of your phone is full
by partially removing (disabling) apps you haven’t used recently.
When you need to use a disabled app, you can restore it at no
additional purchase cost.
n Restoring Apps
Disabled apps can be quickly restored at no additional purchase
cost. To restore an app, run the application you want to restore
from the Main Menu. You will be guided through the restoration
process.

n Expired Apps
Apps that were purchased based on the number of uses or for a
specified period of time expire. You can purchase additional uses
from the Mobile Shop.

8 Alarm Clock
After the alarm clock is enabled, the phone notifies you at the
preset time if the phone is powered on. You can set up to five
alarm clocks.
Enabling an Alarm Clock
1. In the standby mode, choose Menu > Tools > Alarms.
2. Press
to select an alarm clock, and then press
to set
the alarm.
3. The following options appear in the display:
l Time: Allows you to set the time of alarm clock.

If the alarm clock is unattended when it alerts, it stops
temporarily and alerts again five minutes later. It alerts
for five times before it finally stops.
Disabling an Alarm Clock
1. In the standby mode, choose Menu > Tools > Alarms.
2. Press
to select an enabled alarm clock.
3. Press
(Off) to disable the alarm clock.
Choose Menu > Tools > Alarms > Cancel All to disable
all alarm clocks.

9 Security
Enabling/Disabling the Phone Lock
The phone lock protects your phone from unauthorized use. By
default, the phone lock function is disabled. You can change the
default phone lock code (the last four digits of your phone number)
to any numeric string in the range of 4 to 8 digits.
1. In the standby mode, choose Menu > Settings > Security
Settings > Phone Lock.
2. Select one of the following phone lock modes:
l Immediate: Lock the phone immediately.
l Power On: Enable the phone lock when the phone is powered
on the next time.
l Off: Disable your phone lock.

Changing the Phone Lock Code
You can change the default or the current phone lock code into
any numeric string in the range of 4 to 8 digits. Do remember your

Recording a Sound Clip
1. In the standby mode, choose Menu > Tools > Recorder.

l Set As Incoming Call Tone: Allows you to set the sound clip as

the sound clip.
Delete All: Allows you to delete all sound clips.

11 TTY Operation
Using the TTY Device
The Teletypewriter (TTY) is a typewriting device. By connecting
the phone to the TTY device, you can use the TTY functions to
send/receive messages.
When you use the TTY function, do as follows:
1. Connect the TTY device to the headset jack of the phone and
set the phone to the TTY mode.
2. Make or answer calls as normal.
3. When the call is put through, use the TTY device to send or
receive the letters.
4. Press

(End) to end the call.
Setting the TTY Mode
1. In the standby mode, choose Menu > Settings > Phone
Settings > TTY Setup.

l Voice: The standard voice speaking mode and the listening

Create
Message
Allows you to receive voice mails.
You can also clear the voice mail notifications.
Allows you to write and send a message.
Inbox
Allows the phone to store the received messages and
delivery reports.
You can view, reply, delete, and forward messages in
Inbox. You can save the numbers extracted from the
messages or make calls.
Outbox
Allows the phone to save the messages successfully
sent to Outbox and save the messages failed to be
sent to Drafts, if you choose Messages > Settings >
Send Settings > Auto Save > Send & Save.
You can edit, delete, resend, and forward the
messages in Outbox.
Drafts
Allows the phone to store draft messages and the
messages failed to be sent.
You can edit, send, and, delete the messages in the
Drafts.
Quick Text
Allows you to edit up to 10 phrases.
Group List
Allows you to set up to 10 groups of recipients, each
of which can contain up to 100 contacts.

l Auto Save: Allows you to select the following
items, including Send Only (to send the message
without saving) and Send & Save (to send the

14 Warnings and Precautions
n Electronic Device
Power off your phone near high-precision electronic devices.
The phone may affect the performance of these devices.
Pacemaker manufacturers recommend that a minimum
separation of 7 inches (20 cm) be maintained between a mobile
phone and a pace-maker to avoid potential interference with the
pace-maker. To maintain this distance, it is recommended that
you use the phone on the opposite ear from your pacemaker and
do not carry it in a breast pocket. If you have reason to believe
interference is occurring, power off your phone immediately
and consult with your physician.
Some wireless phones may interfere with some hearing aids. In
the event of such interference, consult your service provider or

Do not use the phone in dusty, damp and dirty places or areas
with excessive magnetic fields. Otherwise, malfunction of the
circuitry may occur.
The phone meets applicable radio frequency exposure
guidelines when used in the normal when positioned at least 1.5
cm away from the body. When a carry pouch or belt clip is used,

n Clearing and Maintenance

and disconnect it from the charger. Otherwise, electric shock or

Do not use any chemical detergent, powder, or other chemical

and the charger with a piece of soft damp antistatic cloth.
Keep the plug dry during cleaning to prevent fire.
If the phone or any of its fittings does not work, return to a local

REMEDY AND IS IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER
WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.
14. Some states do not allow exclusion or limitation of
incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, or permit
limitations on the length of implied warranties, so certain of
these warranty limitations may not apply to Purchaser. This
limited warranty gives Purchaser specific legal rights;
Purchaser may also have other rights which vary from state to
state. If any term of this limited warranty is held to be illegal
or unenforceable, the legality or enforceability of the
remaining terms shall not be affected or impaired.
15. This limited warranty allocates risk of Product failure
between Purchaser and Huawei, and Huawei’s Product pricing
reflects this allocation of risk and the limitations of liability
contained in this limited warranty.
