653BATTERY PACKS3BATTERY PACKS‘‘Battery cautions• CAUTION! NEVER short terminals of the battery pack (or charg-ing terminals of the transceiver). Also, current may flow into nearbymetal objects such as necklace. So be careful when placing bat-tery packs (or the transceiver) in handbags, etc.Simply carrying with or placing near metal objects such as neck-lace, etc. causes shorting. This will damage not only the batterypack but also the transceiver.• NEVER incinerate used battery packs. Internal battery gas maycause an explosion.• NEVER immerse the battery pack in water. If the battery pack be-comes wet, be sure to wipe it dry BEFORE attaching it to thetransceiver.• Clean the battery terminals to avoid the rust or miss contact.• Keep battery contacts clean. It’s a good idea to clean battery ter-minals once a week.If your battery pack seems to have no capacity even after beingcharged, completely discharge it by leaving the power ONovernight. Then, fully charge the battery pack again. If the batterypack still does not retain a charge (or very little), a new battery packmust be purchased.DDRecycling information (U.S.A. only)The product that you have purchased contains arechargeable battery. The battery is recyclable. Atthe end of its life, under various state and local laws,it may be illegal to dispose of this battery into themunicipal waste stream. Call 1-800-822-8837 forbattery recycling options in your area or contact your dealer.‘‘Battery pack replacementBefore replacing the battery pack, the volume control MUST be ro-tated fully counterclockwise, until a click is heard, to turn the powerOFF.• Pull the batteryrelease forward, then pull the bat-tery pack upwardwith the trans-ceiver facingyou.DDBATTERY PACKS*1Operating periods are calculated under the following conditions;Tx : Rx : standby =5 : 5 : 90* Operating period depends on alkaline cells used.yrettaB kcap egatloV yticapaCdoirepgnigrahC gnitarepO *doirep1BC-137ro911-CB 121-CB 49-DAhtiw802-PB AArofesacyrettaB)6R( ×enilakla6 A/N902-PB V2.71100srh51srh5.1srh8012-PB V2.7 0561 hAm srh51srh0.2srh111100mAhIC-F3GT(A6)1111 99.11.12 9:44 AM Page 8 (1,1)
83BATTERY PACKS73BATTERY PACKS‘‘Battery chargingPrior to using the transceiver for the first time, the battery pack mustbe fully charged for optimum life and operation.• Recommended temperature range for charging:+10°C to +40°C (50°F to 140°F).• Use the supplied charger or optional charger (BC-119/BC-121 forrapid charging) only. NEVER use other manufacturers’ chargers.DRapid charging with the BC-119+AD-94The optional BC-119 provides rapid charging of optional batterypacks. The following are additionally required:• One AD-94.• An AC adapter(may be suppliedwith the BC-119depending on ver-sion).When using the BC-119 in the vehicle: If the charge indica-tor flashes orange, the vehicle battery voltage is low andcharging may not be performed. Check the vehicle batteryvoltage in this case. If the charge indicator flashes red, theremay be a problem with the battery pack (or charger). Re-in-sert the battery pack or contact your dealer. The optional BC-121 allows up to 6 battery packs to be chargedsimultaneously. The following are additionally required.• Six AD-94s.• An AC adapter (may be supplied with the BC-121 dependingon version).BC-119+AD-94Check orientation for correct charg-ing. 103BATTERY PACKS93BATTERY PACKS‘‘Charging NOTEThe optional BP-209 or BP-210 battery packs include rechargeableNi-Cd(Ni-MH: BP-210) batteries and can be charged approx. 300times. Charge the battery pack before first operating the transceiveror when the battery pack becomes exhausted. If you want to charge the battery pack more than 300 times, the fol-lowing points should be observed:• Avoid over charging. The charging period should be less than 48hours.• Use the battery until it becomes almost completely exhaustedunder normal conditions. We recommend battery charging aftertransmitting becomes impossible.DDBattery pack lifeWhen the operating period becomes extremely short even aftercharging the battery pack fully, a new battery pack is needed.‘‘Battery case (Option)When using a BP-208 OPTIONAL BATTERY CASE attached to thetransceiver, install 6 AA (R6) size alkaline batteries as illustratedbelow.DDCAUTIONS• Use ALKALINE batteries only.• Make sure all battery cells are the same brand, type and ca-pacity.• Never mix old and new batteries.Either of the above may cause a fire hazard or damage thetransceiver.• Never incinerate used battery cells since internal battery gasmay cause them to rupture.• Never expose a detached battery case to water. If the battery case gets wet, be sure to wipe it dry before using.IC-F3GT(A6)1111 99.11.12 9:44 AM Page 12 (1,1)
124PROGRAMMABLE FUNCTIONS114PROGRAMMABLE FUNCTIONS‘‘GeneralIn the following explanations, programmable function names arebracketed, the specific switch used to activate the function dependson programming.DDKEYPAD LOCK FUNCTIONThis function locks access to all programmable switches (except theswitch assigned the lock function).:Push and hold the [LOCK] switch for 1 sec. to toggle the lock func-tion ON and OFF.• “ ”appears while the lock function is ON.• This function may be inhibited on some channels.DDPRIORITY CHANNELThis function is used to select a pre-programmed channel at thepush of a switch.Push the [PRIORITY] switch to select the priority channel.• “PRIO” appears briefly, then the priority channel is automaticallyselected.DDSCAN FUNCTIONThe scan function allows you to search a pre-programmed groupof channels for signals.Push the [SCAN] switch to start/stop scan.• Scan pauses on a channel when receiving a signal.• Depending on programming, a message may appear while scan-ning.• “Lockout SCAN” (pre-programmed list SCAN) or “Priority SCAN”can be pre-programmed.• When the “Power-save function” is activated, the transceiverchecks all pre-programmed channels then returns to the “Power-save function” again.DDHIGH/LOW POWER OUTPUTThis function selects high or low power for a channel.Push the [HIGH/LOW] switch to toggle between high and lowpower.• “LOW” appears when low output power is selected.DDSCRAMBLER FUNCTION (optional UT-109 #01* or UT-110 #01*is required.)This function provides higher communication security.UT-109: Non-rolling type. 32 code numbers are available.UT-110: Rolling type. 1020 (4 group ×255) code numbers are avail-able.Push the [SCRM] switch to toggle the function ON and OFF.NOTE: NEVER use #02 High AF level version, as they are notcompatibleDDBEEP FUNCTIONThis function provides confirmation beep tones when pushingswitches.Push the [BEEP] switch to toggle the function ON and OFF.IC-F3GT(A6)1111 99.11.12 9:44 AM Page 14 (1,1)
144PROGRAMMABLE FUNCTIONS134PROGRAMMABLE FUNCTIONSDDMONITOR AUDIBLE FUNCTIONThe monitor function allows you to open the transceiver’s squelchmanually to check whether a channel is busy or not.The transceiverhas 2 conditions for receive standby:Audible condition:This condition mutes audio ONLY whenno carrier is present. You can receive (ormonitor) any signals on a channel.• Push and hold the [MONI/AUDI], switchto select the audible condition.Any audio mute functions are cancelledwhile pushing the [MONI/AUDI] switch.Inaudible condition:This condition mutes ALL signals exceptthose directed to you.
