Introduction Thank you for choosing a ROAM mobile payment terminal. We recommend that you to read carefully this installation guide: It will give you the necessary information about safety precautions, unpacking, installation and maintenance of your terminal. WARRANTY / SECURITY In order to benefit from the product‐related guaranteeand to respect security, we ask you to use only accessories delivered in box with the product, entrusting maintenance operations only to an authorized person. RP750xis battery powered, use only ROAMparts for replacement: RP750xcan be powered via µUSB. RP750x can be charged with the µUSB cable connected to a mobile phone charger. Failure to comply with these instructions will void the manufacturer’s responsibility. This symbol indicates an important Warning. Safety Lithium battery RP750xis fitted with a lithium battery which is not accessible to the user. Only a qualified technician is authorized to open the unit and change this component. Battery RP750x is fitted with a rechargeable Lithium‐ion battery specifically designed for this terminal. It is not accessible to the user. • Only use chargers with rating that match the power ratings. • Do not attempt to open the terminal. • Do not store your terminal unattended in a vehicle. • If the battery has to be replaced, this operation requires to be performed by qualified staff. Warning Risk of explosion if battery is replaced by an incorrect type, do not disassemble, use specified charger only, do not short‐circuit, do not dispose of in fire, do not throw in water, dispose of used batteries according to the instructions. 3.2. Security of your terminal Upon receipt of your terminal you should check for signs of tampering of the equipment. It is strongly advised that these checks are performed regularly. You should check, for example: that the keypad is firmly in place; that there is no evidence of unusual wires that have been connected to any ports on your terminal or associated equipment, the chip card reader, or any other part of your terminal. Such checks would provide warning of any unauthorised modifications to your terminal, and other suspicious behaviour of individuals that have access to your terminal. Your terminal detects any “tampered state”. In this state the terminal will repeatedly flash the message” Alert Interruption!” and further use of the terminal will not be possible. If you observe the “Alert Interruption!” message, you should contact the terminal helpdesk immediately. You are strongly advised to ensure that privileged access to your terminal is only granted to staff that have been independently verified as being trustworthy. CAUTION NEVER ask the customer to divulge their PIN Code. Installation and connection For following part of the user guide, the RP750x is named Terminal while the device which may be paired with RP750x(tablet, smartphone, PDA) is name Third Party Device. 4.1. The Terminalallows merchantsto convert asmartphoneor a tablet into a powerful & secure POS solution. v LEDs for contactless (option) nMagnetic stripe reader pGraphic display q Navigation keys rKeypad sLanyard Strap oSmart card oSmart card o µUSB Connector 4.2. u Hard Reset Charging Terminal • Before using the terminal for the first time, it requires to be charged for about 3 hours via a computer USB port power output of 450 mA. • Further full charging of the terminal batteryrequires via a computer USB port is about 3 hours. A battery indicator is provided on the terminal display, indicating the charge level of the terminal battery. When connected to a charger, the symbol changes to charging. 4.3. To power on the terminal RP750x po owers off on n its own affter a time. Alternative ely, you can long press the Red R button to t turn off the device. You will ne eed a pin or tip of a pen to engage the Reset button. CAUTION Reboot the terminal using the reb boot switch may cause loss of application data. Daily use 5.1. Getting started with RP750x • Switch on the terminal by pressing the Green keylocated on the right hand side of the terminal • Follow the terminal initialization procedure. This procedure differs from a customer to another. Please refer to your payment service provider. 5.2. Using Bluetooth on RP750x Bluetooth is enabled by long pressing the Bluetooth button for 2 seconds. The Bluetooth button can be found in the lower left corner of the keypad. The Bluetooth button is shared with the * button. This will bring the Bluetooth option. Options include “pair new device”, “clearing entire paired list” and “restoring factory settings”. By selecting the “pair new device”, the RP750x will be visible for 120 seconds for a device to pair to. After 120 seconds, the RP750x goes back to invisible mode. ADVICE The RP750x can be paired with a maximum of 4 third party devices. Card reading 5.4.1. Swiping a card • Insert the card manually in the swiping slot at the top of the terminal, magstripe‐ facingup, as illustrated below. Swipe the card with constant speed, not too slow not too fast, for optimum reading accuracy. 5.4.2. Inserting a chip card • Chip Cards should be inserted into the terminal as illustrated below with the chip facing up and into the card reader / RP750x• R01 0000 1213 14/17 Copyright © 2013 ROAM Data All rights reserved 6. Maintenance ATTENTION Before any maintenance operations on the terminal, make sure that all cables are disconnected. 6.1. Cleaning of the terminal First of all, unplug all cables from the terminal. Good rules for proper cleaning of the terminal are: • Do not clean the electrical connections. • Do not use in any case solvents, detergents, alcoholic or abrasive products as those materials will damage the plastic or electrical contacts. • Avoid exposing the terminal to direct sunlight. • Do not insert anything but cards into the smart card readerslot. 6.2. • • 6.3. Transport and storage Use the original packaging for unit storage. Disconnect all cables from the terminal during transportation. Troubleshooting The terminal does not turn on: • • • • Battery level is too low Check the USB connection Make sure the PC is turned on Check that the wall plug PSU is fully inserted in the electrical socket The terminal fails to establish connection with third party device • Check that the third party deviceis correctly powered. • Check the configuration of the third party device. • Check both terminal & third party device are paired (refer to the pairing user guide). • Check both terminal & third party device are connected via Bluetooth. • Seek technical support. Cards are not read • Check that the magnetic card is swiped correctly (with magnetic stripe inserted into the slot & facing towards the keypad). • Swipe again the card with a constant movement. • Check that the magnetic stripe is not damaged, grooved or cracked. • Make sure you have inserted correctly the smart card into the smart card reader and that the card has been removed after the transaction. / RP750x• R01 0000 1213 15/17 Copyright © 2013 ROAM Data All rights reserved 6.4. Environment (WEEE, Batteries and Packaging) This product is labeled in accordance with European Directives 2002/96/EC concerning Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and 2006/66/EC concerning Batteries and Accumulators.Those provisions are requiring producers and manufacturers to become liable for take‐back, treatment and recycling upon end of life of equipment and batteries. The associated symbol means that WEEE and waste batteries must not be thrown away but collected separately and recycled. ROAM ensures that efficient collection and recycling schemes are set‐up for WEEE and batteries according to the local regulation of your country. Please contact your reseller for more detailed information about the compliance solution in place for disposing of your old product and used batteries.
