Setting up your radio Installing the backup batteries The radio uses a backup battery system to provide continuous operation in the event of a power failure. If the backup batteries have been installed and a power failure occurs or the AC cord is accidentally disconnected, the display will shut off, but the presets and settings will be temporarily maintained. Make sure the AC cord is connected. Otherwise all settings may be lost during battery replacement. Warning • Do not recharge, short, disassemble, or heat the batteries, or dispose of in a fire. • Dispose of batteries in the proper manner, according to federal, state, and local regulations. • Remove the batteries when the charge is depleted. • Battery chemicals can cause a rash. If the batteries leak, clean the battery compartment with a cloth. If chemicals touch your skin, wash immediately. • Do not mix different types of batteries. • Do not try to recharge non-rechargable batteries. Making connections Connecting the AC power cord Make sure that the AC power outlet matches the AC power specifications (120V, 60 Hz) of the radio prior to plugging it in. To connect the AC power: • Plug the AC power cord into an AC power outlet. Using your radio Before using your radio, make sure all connections are secure, then plug the AC power cord into your radio and an AC power outlet. Turning your radio on and off To turn your radio on and off: 1 Press the (power on/off ) button. Your radio turns on. 2 Press the (power on/off ) button again to switch your radio to standby mode. www.insigniaproducts.com 9 NS-B3113B_10-0137_MAN_ENG_V2.fm Page 10 Wednesday, February 3, 2010 9:05 AM Insignia NS-B3113B Radio with Universal iPod® Dock Playing the radio To play the radio: 1 Press the (power on/off ) button to turn on your radio. 2 Remove a docked iPod, if necessary. • Press the SOURCE button repeatedly to select the AM or FM band. • If you are listening to FM, uncoil and extend the FM antenna on the back of your radio and move it around to improve reception. -OR• If you are listening to AM, turn the radio slightly to improve reception. to tune the • Press TUNING/SKIP or TUNING/SKIP radio to a lower or higher frequency. • Press the VOLUME + or VOLUME – buttons to increase or decrease the volume. Adjust the volume to a comfortable level. • Press and hold TUNING/SKIP or TUNING/SKIP for more than one second to scan to a higher or lower frequency. The radio automatically scans to the next station. 3 Press the (power on/off ) button to turn off your radio. Using radio station presets Your radio can store 10 AM and 10 FM station presets. To store radio station presets: 1 Press the (power on/off ) button to turn on your radio. 2 Remove a docked iPod, if necessary. 3 Press the SOURCE button repeatedly to select the AM or FM band. 4 Press TUNING/SKIP or TUNING/SKIP to tune the radio to a desired station. 5 Press the MEMORY button. 6 Press the PRESET button repeatedly to select the desired preset number. 7 Press the MEMORY button again to store the preset number for the station. 8 Repeat steps 3 to 6 to store as many as 10 AM presets and 10 FM presets. 10 www.insigniaproducts.com NS-B3113B_10-0137_MAN_ENG_V2.fm Page 11 Wednesday, February 3, 2010 9:05 AM Insignia NS-B3113B Radio with Universal iPod® Dock Recalling radio station presets To recall radio station presets: 1 Press the (power on/off ) button to turn on your radio. 2 Remove a docked iPod, if necessary. 3 Press the SOURCE button repeatedly to select the AM or FM band. 4 Press the PRESET button repeatedly to select the preset station you want. Listening to an external sound source You can listen to an external sound source, such as a CD, MD, or non-docking iPod®, on your radio. To listen to an external sound source: 1 Make sure that your radio is turned off. 2 Connect the external sound source to the AUX IN jack on the back of your radio using a stereo mini plug cord (not supplied). 3 Press the (power on/off ) button to turn on your radio. 4 Remove a docked iPod, if necessary. 5 Press the SOURCE button repeatedly until “AUX” appears on the display. 6 Start playback on the external sound source, then adjust the volume to a comfortable level. Control playback on the external audio device. Listening to your iPod To listen to your iPod: 1 Insert your iPod into the dock on the front of your radio. The radio will automatically turn on. If you dock an iPod that is playing, you will hear the music through your radio. Note If the music is playing too softly, the radio may not detect the iPod. If that happens, press PLAY/PAUSE twice to begin playback. 2 When the iPod is docked and in standby mode, press the PLAY/PAUSE button on the radio to play it. The iPod icon will appear on the radio LCD display, showing iPod mode. • Press the PLAY/PAUSE button again to pause play. Press and hold while track is playing for high speed forward or reverse music search of the current track. 3 To turn off the unit, press the (power on/off ) button. The iPod will continue charging while in the dock. • Troubleshooting Problem Cause/Solution No power • Make sure that the AC power cord is fully inserted into the AC power outlet. • Make sure that the AC power outlet is working. No sound from the speakers • Make sure that the volume level is set correctly. • Make sure that you have selected the correct mode. • Make sure that the volume level is set correctly on the external sound source or iPod. Static or noise when playing the radio • • • • The radio gets warm after extended play • This is normal. The sound is distorted • Make sure that the volume level is not set too high. • Make sure that the material on the sound source is not distorted. Try a different external sound source. Your iPod does not dock correctly • You are trying to install the iPod incorrectly. Remove the iPod from the dock and check for an obstruction, then try to reseat it. Your iPod does not respond to the radio • The iPod is not docked correctly. Remove it, then try reseating it. • Your iPod software is outdated. Update your iPod software on http://www.apple.com/ipod/ download. • Your iPod is locked up. Make sure your iPod is working correctly before installing it in the radio. Refer to your iPod manual for details. • You are using a first or second generation iPod. The radio cannot control these devices. Your iPod does not charge • The iPod is not docked correctly. Remove it, then try reseating it. • Your iPod is locked up. Make sure your iPod is working correctly before installing it in the radio. Refer to your iPod manual for details. No sound from an external sound source • Make sure the external device is connected correctly and the radio is in AUX mode. 12 Make sure that the station is tuned correctly and that the station has a good signal. Try another station. If you are playing an AM station, rotate the radio to improve the reception. This Product must be purchased from an authorized dealer of Insignia brand products and packaged with this warranty statement. This warranty does not cover refurbished Product. If you notify Insignia during the Warranty Period of a defect covered by this warranty that requires service, terms of this warranty apply. How long does the coverage last? The Warranty Period lasts for 90 days from the date you purchased the Product. The purchase date is printed on the receipt you received with the Product. What does this warranty cover? During the Warranty Period, if the original manufacture of the material or workmanship of the Product is determined to be defective by an authorized Insignia repair center or store personnel, Insignia will (at its sole option): (1) repair the Product with new or rebuilt parts; or (2) replace the Product at no charge with new or rebuilt comparable products or parts. Products and parts replaced under this warranty become the property of Insignia and are not returned to you. If service of Products or parts are required after the Warranty Period expires, you must pay all labor and parts charges. This warranty lasts as long as you own your Insignia Product during the Warranty Period. Warranty coverage terminates if you sell or otherwise transfer the Product. How to obtain warranty service? If you purchased the Product at a retail store location, take your original receipt and the Product to the store you purchased it from. Make sure that you place the Product in its original packaging or packaging that provides the same amount of protection as the original packaging. If you purchased the Product from an online web site, mail your original receipt and the Product to the address listed on the web site.
