"I MPORTANT NOTI CE FOR ALL USERS OR DI STRI BUTORS:
I nt el wireless LAN adapters are engineered, m anufactured, t est ed, and qualit y checked t o ensure that t hey m eet
all necessary local and governm ent al regulat ory agency requirem ent s for t he regions t hat they are designat ed
and/ or m arked t o ship into. Because wireless LANs are generally unlicensed devices that share spect rum wit h

avoid, and lim it usage t o avoid interference wit h these devices. I n m any instances I ntel is required t o provide t est
data to prove regional and local com pliance to regional and governm ental regulat ions before cert ificat ion or
approval t o use the product is grant ed. I nt el's wireless LAN's EEPROM, firm ware, and soft ware driver are designed
to carefully cont rol param eters t hat affect radio operat ion and t o ensure elect rom agnet ic com pliance ( EMC). These
param eters include, wit hout lim it at ion, RF power, spectrum usage, channel scanning, and hum an exposure.
For t hese reasons I nt el cannot perm it any m anipulat ion by third parties of t he software provided in binary form at
wit h the wireless LAN adapters ( e.g., t he EEPROM and firm ware) . Furtherm ore, if you use any pat ches, ut ilit ies, or
code with t he I ntel wireless LAN adapters that have been m anipulated by an unaut horized part y (i.e., patches,
ut ilit ies, or code ( including open source code m odificat ions) which have not been validat ed by I nt el) , ( i) you will be

N ot e : Many regulatory agencies consider Wireless LAN adapters to be "m odules", and accordingly, condit ion
syst em - level regulat ory approval upon receipt and review of test dat a docum enting t hat t he antennas and syst em
configurat ion do not cause t he EMC and radio operat ion to be non - com pliant ."

Prot ect ed
Access)
This is a securit y enhancem ent t hat st rongly increases t he level of data prot ect ion and access
cont rol t o a wireless net work. WPA is an int erim st andard that will be replaced wit h t he I EEE's
802.11i standard upon it s com plet ion. WPA consists of RC4 and TKI P and provides support for
BSS ( I nfrast ruct ure) m ode only. WPA and WPA2 are com patible.
WPA2* ( Wi- Fi
Prot ect ed
Access 2)
This is the second generation of WPA t hat com plies wit h the I EEE TGi specification. WPA2
consists of AES encrypt ion, pre-aut hent ication and PMKI D caching. I t provides support for BSS
(I nfrastructure) m ode and I BSS ( ad hoc) m ode. WPA and WPA2 are com patible.
WPA- Ent erprise Wi- Fi Prot ect ed Access- Ent erprise applies t o corporate users. A new standards- based,
int eroperable securit y t echnology for wireless LAN ( subset of I EEE 802.11i draft st andard) that
encrypts data sent over radio waves. WPA is a Wi- Fi st andard t hat was designed t o im prove
upon the securit y feat ures of WEP as follows:
I m proved dat a encrypt ion t hrough the tem poral key int egrity prot ocol ( TKI P). TKI P uses a
hashing algorit hm t o scram ble t he encrypt ion keys and adds an int egrit y - checking feat ure
to ensure t hat the keys have not been t am pered with.
User aut henticat ion, which is generally m issing in WEP, t hrough the extensible
aut hent ication prot ocol ( EAP) . WEP regulat es access t o a wireless net work based on a
com put er's hardware- specific MAC address, which is relatively sim ple t o be sniffed out and
st olen. EAP is built on a m ore secure public- key encryption syst em t o ensure that only
aut horized net work users can access t he network.
WPA is an int erim st andard that will be replaced wit h t he I EEE's 802.11i standard upon its
com plet ion.
WPA- Personal Wi- Fi Prot ect ed Access- Personal provides a level of securit y in t he sm all network or hom e
environm ent .
WPA- PSK (Wi -
Fi Prot ected-
Access Pre-
Shared Key)
WPA- PSK m ode does not use an aut hent ication server. I t can be used wit h the dat a encrypt ion
types WEP or TKI P. WPA- PSK requires configurat ion of a pre- shared key ( PSK). You m ust ent er
a pass phrase or 64 hex charact ers for a pre- shared key of lengt h 256- bit s. The data encryption
key is derived from t he PSK.
