"I MPORTANT NOTI CE FOR ALL USERS OR DI STRI BUTORS:
I nt el wireless LAN adapters are engineered, m anufactured, t est ed, and qualit y checked t o ensure that t hey m eet
all necessary local and governm ent al regulat ory agency requirem ent s for t he regions t hat they are designat ed

data to prove regional and local com pliance to regional and governm ental regulat ions before cert ificat ion or
approval t o use the product is grant ed. I nt el's wireless LAN's EEPROM, firm ware, and soft ware driver are designed
to carefully cont rol param eters t hat affect radio operat ion and t o ensure elect rom agnet ic com pliance ( EMC). These
param eters include, wit hout lim it at ion, RF power, spectrum usage, channel scanning, and hum an exposure.
For t hese reasons I nt el cannot perm it any m anipulat ion by third parties of t he software provided in binary form at
wit h the wireless LAN adapters ( e.g., t he EEPROM and firm ware) . Furtherm ore, if you use any pat ches, ut ilit ies, or
code with t he I ntel wireless LAN adapters that have been m anipulated by an unaut horized part y (i.e., patches,
ut ilit ies, or code ( including open source code m odificat ions) which have not been validat ed by I nt el) , ( i) you will be

SSI D or network nam e is a value t hat cont rols access to a wireless net work. The SSI D for your
wireless network card m ust m atch t he SSI D for any access point t hat you want to connect wit h.
I f the value does not m at ch, you are not grant ed access to the net work. Each SSI D m ay be up
to 32 alphanum eric charact ers long and is case-sensitive.
st ealt h A st ealt h access point is one t hat has the capabilit y and is configured t o not broadcast its SSI D.
This is the WiFi net work nam e t hat appears when a DMU ( Device Managem ent Ut ility, such as
I nt el® PROSet/ Wireless WiFi Connect ion Ut ilit y) scans for available wireless net works. Although
this can enhance wireless network securit y, it is com m only considered a weak security feature.
To connect t o a st ealt h access point , a user m ust specifically know t he SSI D and configure t heir
DMU accordingly. The feat ure is not a part of the 802.11 specificat ion, and is known by differing

A t ype of aut hent ication m et hod using the Ext ensible Aut hent ication Prot ocol ( EAP) and a
securit y prot ocol called t he Transport Layer Security ( TLS) . EAP- TLS uses cert ificat es which use
passwords. EAP- TLS authenticat ion supports dynam ic WEP key m anagem ent. The TLS prot ocol is
int ended t o secure and authenticat e com m unicat ions across a public network through dat a
encryption. The TLS Handshake Prot ocol allows t he server and client to provide m ut ual
aut hent ication and t o negot iate an encrypt ion algorit hm and cryptographic keys before data is
t ransm it ted.
TTLS ( Tunneled
Transport Layer
Securit y)
These set tings define t he prot ocol and t he credentials used to aut hent icate a user. I n TTLS, t he
client uses EAP- TLS t o validat e t he server and creat e a TLS-encrypted channel between t he
client and server. The client can use another authenticat ion prot ocol. Typically password- based
prot ocols challenge over t his encrypted channel to enable server validat ion. The challenge and
response packets are sent over a non - exposed TLS encrypt ed channel. TTLS im plem ent ations
today support all m et hods defined by EAP, as well as several older m et hods ( CHAP, PAP, MS-
CHAP and MS- CHAP-V2) . TTLS can easily be ext ended to work wit h new prot ocols by defining
new attribut es to support new prot ocols.
