When you reach the WindowsMobile Today screen, you have completedthe setup.Learning About The KeypadGold Plane KeysThe Gold bplane keys provide you access todisplay controls, special characters, and Win-dows Mobile 2003 options.Press the gold bkey for each gold plane keystroke you wish to make. For example to turnon the front light, press and hold the gold bkey plus the 3key. To turn the front lightoff press and hold the gold and the 3keyagain.Alpha (Blue) Plane Keys-NumericKeypadThe Alpha (Blue) Fplane keys work a bitdifferently than the gold plane keys. Whenyou press the Alpha key, the Imager/AlphaCLED lights ‘red’ to indicate Alpha mode.ThekeypadstaysintheAlphamodeuntilyoupress it again.For example, pressing the Alpha Fkey andthe 1key allows the next letter to be capi-talized. Again it stays in this mode until youpress the Alpha key again.Another example of how this works, if youwant to type a ‘c’ press the Fkey and the2key three times. If you need a letter thatis on the same key as the last letter entered,wait two seconds after you pressed the last key

9Model 730 Color Quick Start GuideBattery Status LEDPower to run your Model 730 is supplied by apowerful Li-Ion battery pack designed to giveyou approximately 6-10 hours of operation(depending on application). In addition, yourModel 730 contains backup capabilities toprevent loss of data when the main battery isdischarged or when switching out batterypacks.For maximum effectiveness it is important toleave the main battery installed in your Model730 even if it is discharged. If the main bat-tery is removed, it should be replaced within10 minutes to avoid the possibility of dataloss.The Battery status LED Bturns red,green, or yellow.SSteady Green: Battery is more than 95%charged and unit is on a charger.SBlinking Red: Battery is low. The speed ofthe blinking increases as the battery’s powergets increasingly lower.SRed: Main battery is low, or if charging,will remain red until your Model 730reaches 95% charge status.SYellow:YourModel730isonachargingsource and there is no battery packinstalled.CanalsomeanthatyourModel730 is out of charging range 32°to 122°F(0°to 50°C). Once your Model 730 getsback in range, charging resumes and theLED changes to red or green.SAlternating between Red and Yellow: Thebattery pack needs to be replaced.

A warm reset causes all runningprograms to be unloaded, but all programsand data remain in the object store.SPress and hold the Ikey for about 10seconds.
18 Model 730 Color Quick Start GuideCold Resetting Your Model 730In some cases where the Model 730 complete-ly stops responding, it may become necessaryto perform a Cold Reset. Because cold reset-ting may result in data loss, it is not recom-mended unless all other recovery methodshave failed.Cold booting deletes all programs and datastored in RAM including the Object Store.Ensure that data is backed up to the HostPC or a Storage Card before cold booting.1Release the lower clip of the hand strap.2Remove the battery pack.3Press the Reset button.Resetbutton4Reinstall the battery pack.TroubleshootingModel 730 does not respond whenconnected to a power supply.Check to ensure that your AC adapter ordock is plugged in and that it is makinggood contact with your mobile computer.Model 730 will not turn On when Ikey is pressedThe battery may be low and need recharging.

See page 9 for LED ex-planations.Model 730 will not power up, screen isblankThe Battery may be critically low.Ensure thatyour computer has been on a charger for atleast five minutes, then remove from the char-ger and press the Ibutton. The display willthen be active.Continue to charge your mo-bile computer for 4 hours to ensure that thebattery is fully charged.Model 730 will not turn On whenplaced in a dockEnsure that the dock is plugged in and yourcomputer is securely seated in the dock.Model 730 shuts down during opera-tionYou may have a very low battery, try recharg-ing the battery.Model 730 does not turn OffMay not turn Off when it is processing data.If this condition continues for a long period oftime it will run down the battery unless it isconnected to external power.IntherareeventthatyourModel730locksup, do a Warm Reset and if that doesn’tresolve the problem then do a Cold Reset.Seepage18forColdResetdetails.

If ittakes longer than this, contact support per-sonnel.Cleaning Your Model 730Periodic cleaning helps maintain the appear-ance of your Model 730. When cleaning yourModel 730, inspect the keyboard, covers, dis-play, and connectors for obvious signs ofdamage or wear.Note:Donotuseabrasivecleaningcompounds, alkaline compounds, ke-tonic solvents (acetone or ketone) oraromatic solvents (toluene or xylene)to clean any part of your Model 730.These solutions cause permanentdamage.Note: Never pour cleaners directlyon the display or the case.
