wire-connected, and operated.

Introduction
We would like to thank you for purchasing one of our JVC products.
Before operating this unit, read this manual carefully and thoroughly to
obtain the best possible performance from your unit, and retain this manual
for future reference.
About This Manual

Power sources

This manual is organized as follows:

• When unplugging from the wall outlet, always pull the
plug, not the AC power cord.

• The manual mainly explains operations using the
buttons and controls on the unit. You can also use the
buttons on the remote control if they have the same or
similar names (or marks) as those on the unit.
If operation using the remote control is different from
that using the unit, it is then explained.
• Basic and common information that is the same for many
functions is grouped in one place, and is not repeated in
each procedure. For instance, we do not repeat the
information about turning on/off the unit, setting the
volume, changing the sound effects, and others, which are
explained in the section “Common Operations” on pages 9
and 10.
• The following marks are used in this manual:
Gives you warnings and cautions to prevent a
damage or risk of fire/electric shock.
Also gives you information on operation which
is not good for obtaining the best possible
performance from the unit.
Gives you information and hints you had better
know.

DO NOT handle the AC power cord with wet
hands.

Moisture condensation
Moisture may condense on the lens inside the unit in the
following cases:
• After starting heating in the room
• In a damp room
• If the unit is brought directly from a cold to a warm place
Should this occur, the unit may malfunction. In this case,
leave the unit turned on for a few hours until the moisture
evaporates, unplug the AC power cord, and then plug it in
again.

Others
• Should any metallic object or liquid fall into the unit,
unplug the unit and consult your dealer before operating
any further.
• If you are not going to operate the unit for an extended
period of time, unplug the AC power cord from the wall
outlet.
DO NOT disassemble the unit since there are no
user serviceable parts inside.

Precautions

If anything goes wrong, unplug the AC power cord and
consult your dealer.

Installation
• Install in a place which is level, dry and neither too hot nor
too cold — between 5˚C (41˚F) and 35˚C (95˚F).
• Install the unit in a location with adequate ventilation to
prevent internal heat built-up in the unit.
• Leave sufficient distance between the unit and the TV.
• Keep the speakers away from the TV to avoid interference
with TV.
DO NOT install the unit in a location near heat
sources, or in a place subject to direct sunlight,
excessive dust or vibration.

Connecting Speakers

After unpacking, check to be sure that you have all the
following items.
The number in the parentheses indicates the quantity of the
pieces supplied.

If any is missing, consult your dealer immediately.

Putting the Batteries into the Remote Control
Insert 2 batteries — R6P(SUM-3)/AA(15F) — into the
remote control, by matching the polarity (+ and –) on the
batteries with the + and – markings on the battery
compartment.
When the remote control can no longer operate the unit,
replace both batteries at the same time.

Connect the left speaker cord to the L speaker terminal and
the right speaker cord to the R speaker terminal.

To attach the speakers to the unit
Align the grooves with the guide rails on the unit, and push
the speaker down until it stops.

To detach the speakers from the unit
While pushing the lever to the direction of the arrow
(“RELEASE”), pull the speaker up.

compartment when you are not going to use the

Connecting Other Equipment

Power Supply
To operate on household AC

• DO NOT connect any equipment while the power is
on.
• DO NOT plug in any equipment until all connections
are complete.

Connect the AC power cord after all other connections have
been made.

To connect an analog component
The plugs of the audio cords are color coded: white plugs and
jacks are for left audio signals, and red ones for right audio
signals.

By using audio cords (not supplied), connect between the
audio output jacks on the other equipment and AUX jacks for
playing the other equipment.

The provided AC power cord for this unit has certain one-way
direction connections to prevent electric shock. Refer to the
illustration for correct connection.
• DO NOT use any AC cord other than the JVC power
cord provided with this unit; otherwise malfunction or
damage to the unit may occur.

To operate on batteries
Insert 8 batteries (not supplied) - R20/D(13F) - into the
battery compartment as shown in the illustration.
Be sure to insert the batteries with the + and – terminals
positioned correctly.

CAUTIONS:

• When not using the unit for a long time (more than two
weeks) or when always using on household AC, remove the
batteries to avoid a malfunction or damage to the unit.
• When the JVC power cord provided with this unit is
connected, the power is automatically switched from the
batteries to the household AC even when the batteries are
inserted. Remove the batteries when using the power cord.
When the batteries are nearly exhausted, every time the unit
is used, the power will be turned off after about 1 minute.
When making an important recording, use new batteries
(preferably alkaline batteries with a longer service life) to
avoid any possible failure.

Resetting the Unit
If normal operations are disabled, reset the unit.

1 Turn off the power.
2 Press the RESET button on the rear of the
unit with the tip of a small screwdriver or
similar object.

For better battery usage

Continuous operation of the unit causes the battery power to
be consumed quicker than noncontinuous operation.
Operation of the unit in a cold place causes the battery power
to be consumed more quickly than in a warm place.
• For power supply, the use of household AC is
recommended, when continuous operation of the unit is
required over a longer period of time.

To operate on a car battery
Use an optional exclusive car adapter (JVC model CA-R120)
to connect the DC IN 12V jack on the rear of the unit to a
cigarette lighter socket of a car.

3 Turn on the power.
4 Set the clock. (See page 9.)
If necessary, preset the desired stations again. (See page 11.)

Common Operations
Turning On or Off the Power
To turn on the unit, press POWER

Selecting the Sources
When you press the play button for a particular source
(TUNER, TAPE, AUX, and CD 6), the unit turns on, and
the unit starts playing the source if it is ready.

To turn off the unit (on standby),
press POWER
again.
To switch off the power supply completely, unplug the AC
power cord from the AC outlet.

Setting the Clock

To listen to FM/AM broadcasts, press TUNER. (See page
11.)
To play back CDs, press CD 6. (See page 13.)
To play back a tape, press TAPE. (See page 16.)
To select the external equipment as the source, press AUX.

Before operating the unit any further, first set the clock built
into this unit.

1 Turn on the power.
CD playback starts also when you press 3 CD1, 3 CD2,
3 CD3, or LONG PLAY. (See page 13.)

2 Press CLOCK for more than
2 seconds so that the
following indication blinks
on the display.

When you press CD1 0, CD2 0 or
CD3 0
The unit is turned on, the corresponding
disc tray ejects, and the source is
automatically changed to CD.

Adjusting the Volume
3 Press UP ¢ or 4 DOWN
to adjust the hour and
minute.

You can adjust the volume level only while the unit is turned
on.
Turn JOG-VOLUME clockwise to
increase the volume or
counterclockwise to decrease it.
• The volume level can be adjusted
from VOL 0 (minimum) to VOL 25.

• When the button is kept pressed, the hour and minute
changes rapidly.

4 Press CLOCK.
To check the clock time
Press CLOCK while the unit is turned on.
Night time 12 o’clock is shown as “AM 12:00” and day time
12 o’clock is shown as “PM 12:00”.
When the button is pressed again, the display shows the
previously engaged mode.

When using the remote control, press
VOLUME + to increase the volume or
press VOLUME – to decrease it.

For private listening

Connect a pair of headphones to the PHONES jack. No sound
comes out of the speakers. Be sure to turn down the volume
before connecting or putting on headphones.

For the clock resetting

If a power failure occured or the power cord is disconnected,
the clock stops. In such case you need to set the clock again.

DO NOT turn off (on standby) the unit with the volume
set to an extremely high level; otherwise, a sudden blast
of sound can damage your hearing, speakers and/or
headphones when you turn on the unit or start playing
any source next time.
Remember you cannot adjust the volume level while the
unit is on standby.

Reinforcing the Bass Sound

Selecting the Sound Modes

You can enjoy powerful bass sound with the Hyper Bass
Sound function provided for this unit.

You can select one of the 4 preset sound modes. The sound
modes can be applied only to playback sounds, and cannot be
used for recording.

To turn on the function, press HYPERBASS SOUND.
The HBS indicator appears on the
display.

To select the sound modes, press
PRESET EQ until the sound mode you
want appears on the display.

To turn off the function, press the button again so that the
HBS indicator goes off.

• Each time you press the button, the sound modes change as
follows:

When using the remote control, press
HBS.
When using the remote control, press
EQ.

BEAT:
POP:
CLEAR:
FLAT:

Set to this position for music with a heavy beat,
such as rock or disco music.
Set to this position for light music including
popular and vocal music.
Set to this position for crisp and clear sounding
music with transparent highs.
Set to this position when listening to classical
music.

Listening to FM and AM Broadcasts
Tuning in a Station

Presetting Stations
You can preset 15 FM and 15 AM stations.

1 Press TUNER.

TUNER

To preset stations automatically

The unit automatically turns on, and
tunes in the previously tuned station
(either FM or AM).
• Each time you press the button, the
band alternates between FM and
AM.

1 Press TUNER to select the
band, FM or AM.

2 Press and hold UP ¢ or
DOWN 4 for more than 1
second.

TUNER

2 Press TUNING PRESET for
more than 2 seconds.
The unit scans the selected band, and
stores the first 15 stations in memory
automatically.
The 15 stations are given the preset numbers from P-1 to P15, starting from the station with the lowest frequency.

When using the remote
control, press and hold 4
or ¢ for more than 1
second.

To preset the desired stations manually

The unit starts searching for stations
and stops when a station of sufficient
signal strength is tuned in.
If a program is broadcast in stereo,
the STEREO indicator lights up.

1 Press TUNER to select the
band, FM or AM.

2 Tune in the station you want
to preset.

To stop during searching, press UP ¢ /DOWN 4
(4/¢).

3 Press and hold the desired
number button on the
remote control until the
preset number starts
blinking on the display.

When you press UP ¢ /DOWN 4 (4 /¢)
briefly and repeatedly

The frequency changes step by step.

To change the FM reception mode
When an FM stereo broadcast is hard to
receive or noisy, press FM MODE on
the remote control so that the MONO
indicator lights up on the display.
Reception improves.
To restore the stereo effect, press FM MODE again so that
the MONO indicator goes off.
In this stereo mode, you can hear stereo sounds when a
program is broadcast in stereo.

Ex.: For preset number 5, press and hold 5.
For preset number 12, press +10 and then press and
hold 2.

Playing Back CDs
Using 0 ALL

NOTES ON CD-R AND CD-RW DISCS
• This unit can play back CD-R and CD-RW discs as well as
conventional audio CDs. However, note that a CD-R or a
CD-RW disc must be “finalized” so that it can be played
back on this unit correctly.
“Finalization” is a process to create a TOC (Table Of
Contents) section on a recorded disc. If you attempt to play
back a non-finalized disc, especially a non-finalized CDRW disc on this unit, malfunction may occur since no TOC
section exists on the disc.
• When a non-finalized CD-R or a CD-RW disc is loaded or
ejected, it may take a considerably long time, but this is not
a malfunction.
• This unit does not support track skipping function. Even if
a CD-R disc or a CD-RW disc is created so that some
tracks are skipped during playback, this unit also plays
such tracks.

When you press 0 ALL, three disc trays
come out at the same time.
Place a disc on the disc tray 3, manually
push the disc tray 3 into the unit, place a
disc on the disc tray 2, manually push
the disc tray 2 into the unit, and then
place a disc on the disc tray 1. Finally
press 0 ALL to close the compartment.

When only 2 CDs are loaded, they are played in the same
order, but the disc tray without a CD is skipped.

Basic CD Operations
While playing a CD, you can do the following operations.

To exchange CDs during playback of another
Press CD1 0, CD2 0, or CD3 0, which corresponds to the
CD not being played, to eject and exchange the CD.

To stop play for a moment
Press CD 6 on the unit or 6 on the
remote control.
While pausing, the elapsed playing time
flashes on the display.

Pressing the number button(s) in stop
mode or during playback allows you to
start playing back the track with the
specified track number.
Ex.: For track number 5, press 5.
For track number 15, press +10
then 5.
For track number 20, press +10,
then 10.
For track number 32, press +10,
+10, +10, then 2.

Programming the Playing Order of the Tracks
— Program Play
You can arrange the order in which the tracks play before you
start playing, using the remote control. You can program up to
20 tracks.
• To repeat program play, press REPEAT on the remote
control after starting the program play.

To add tracks in the program before play
Simply select the disc number and track number by following
steps 3 and 4 of the programming procedure.
To exit from the program play mode, press 7 in stop mode.
Programming is possible when a CD tray is open.

You can program tracks while confirming the tracks on the
CD as the CD label is visible.

Even if you press 4 (or DOWN 4 on the unit)

You cannot go back to the previous tracks during random
play.

Repeating Tracks or CDs — Repeat Play
You can have all the CDs, the program or the individual track
currently playing repeat as many times as you like, using the
remote control.

To repeat a track
Press REPEAT so that the REPEAT
indicator lights up.
The current track will be played
repeatedly.

To repeat a CD
Make sure the LONG PLAY indicator is not lit on the display
(if it is lit, press LONG PLAY so that the indicator goes off).
Press REPEAT so that the REPEAT ALL indicator lights up.
The currently selected disc will be played repeatedly.

To repeat all tracks of all CDs
Press LONG PLAY so that the LONG PLAY indicator lights
up. Press REPEAT so that the REPEAT ALL and the ALL
DISC indicators light up.
All tracks on all CDs will be played repeatedly.

Playing Back Tapes

Recording
Recording Tapes on Deck A

IMPORTANT:
• It should be noted that it may be unlawful to re-record
pre-recorded tapes, records, or discs without the
consent of the owner of copyright in the sound or video
recording, broadcast or cable program and in any
literary, dramatic, musical, or artistic embodied
therein.
• The recording level is automatically set correctly, so it is
not affected by the JOG-VOLUME control. Thus, during
recording you can adjust the sound you are actually
listening to without affecting the recording level.
• While recording, you can hear sound modes and/or the
Hyper Bass Sound effect through the speakers or
headphones. However, the sound is recorded without these
effects (see page 10).
• If recordings you have made have excessive noise or static,
the unit may be too close to a TV. Increase the distance
between the TV and the unit.
• Use only type I tapes for recording.

To protect your recording
Cassettes have two small tabs on the back to protect
unexpected erasure or re-recording.
To protect your recording, remove these tabs.
To re-record on a protected tape, cover the holes with
adhesive tape.

1 Press STOP/EJECT § for the deck A.

2 Put in a recordable cassette, with the exposed
part of the tape down.
3 Close the cassette holder gently.
4 Prepare the source to be recorded.
• To record from FM or AM, press TUNER to select the
band and tune in a desired station.
• To record from a CD, load the CD in one of the disc
trays, start playback, and stop it to select that CD.

5 Start recording.
Press REC ¶ for deck A. PLAY 3 is pressed
simultaneously, and recording starts.

• When the source is CD and the CD is in stop mode, CD
playback starts automatically from the first track.
• When the source is CD and the CD is in pause mode,
CD playback starts automatically from the position in
pause.
• When the tape reaches its end, recording stops and CD
play also stops automatically.
To stop during recording, press STOP/EJECT § for
deck A.
To stop recording temporarily, press PAUSE 8 for deck A.
To resume recording, press PAUSE 8 again.

Dubbing Tapes

While recording an AM broadcast, beats may be heard
(which are never heard when listening to the broadcast
without recording it).
If this happens, press BEAT CANCEL
until the beats are eliminated.

1 Press TAPE.
2 Press STOP/EJECT § for deck A and put
in a recordable cassette with the exposed part
of the tape down, then close the cassette
holder gently.
3 Press STOP/EJECT § for deck B and put

Using the Timers
There are two timers available - daily timer and sleep timer.
Before using the timers, you need to set the clock built into
the unit. (See page 9.)

6 Press TIMER.
The source name (“TUNER” or
“Cd”) blinks on the display.

Using Daily Timer
With the daily timer, you can wake to your favorite music or
radio program.

How the daily timer actually works
The unit automatically turns on, sets the volume level to the
preset level, and starts playing the specified source (radio or
CD) when the on-time comes. During play, the indicator
flashes. Then, when the off-time comes, the unit
automatically turns off (stands by).
The timer setting remains in memory until you change it.
• There is a time limit in doing the following steps. If the
setting is canceled before you finish, start from step 1
again.

Using Sleep Timer
With the sleep timer, you can fall asleep to music.
You can set the sleep timer when the unit is turned on using
the remote control.

How the sleep timer actually works
The unit automatically turns off after the specified time
length passes.

1 Press SLEEP on the remote
control.
The SLEEP indicator appears and
the time length until the shut-off
time blinks on the display.
• Each time you press the button, the time length (in
minutes) changes as follows:

2 Wait for about 5 seconds after specifying the
time length.
The SLEEP indicator remains lit.
To check the remaining time until the shut-off time, press
SLEEP once so that the remaining time until the shut-off time
appears for about 5 seconds.
To change the shut-off time, press SLEEP repeatedly until
the desired time length appears on the display.
To cancel the setting, press SLEEP repeatedly so that the
SLEEP indicator goes off.
• The sleep timer is also canceled when you turn off the unit.

Maintenance
To get the best performance of the unit, keep your discs, tapes, and mechanism clean.

Handling discs

Handling cassette tapes
• Remove the disc from its case by
holding it at the edge while pressing
the center hole lightly.
• Do not touch the shiny surface of the
disc, or bend the disc.
• Put the disc back in its case after use
to prevent warping.

• If the tape is loose in its cassette, take
up the slack by inserting a pencil in
one of the reels and rotating.
• If the tape is loose, it may get
stretched, cut, or caught in the
cassette.
• Be careful not to touch the tape
surface.

• Be careful not to scratch the surface
of the disc when placing it back in its
case.
• Avoid exposure to direct sunlight,
temperature extremes, and moisture.

• Avoid the following places to store the
tape:
— In dusty places
— In direct sunlight or heat
— In moist areas
— Near a magnet

To clean the disc

Wipe the disc with a soft cloth in a
straight line from center to edge.

Cassette decks
DO NOT use any solvent — such as conventional record
cleaner, spray, thinner, or benzine — to clean the disc.

If the heads, capstans, and pinch rollers of the cassette decks
become dirty, the following will occur:
• Impaired sound quality
• Discontinuous sound
• Fading
• Incomplete erasure
• Difficulty in recording
To clean the heads, capstans, and pinch rollers
Use a cotton swab moistened with alcohol.

ambas pilas de forma simultánea.

Conecte el cable del altavoz de la izquierda al terminal L del

Para encajar los altavoces en la unidad
Empuje la palanca en la dirección de la flecha mientras
levanta el altavoz.

Para separar los altavoces de la unidad
Mientras empuja la palanca en la dirección que indica la
flecha (“RELEASE”), estire del altavoz hacia arriba.

• NO utilice una pila antigua junto con una nueva.
• NO utilice diferentes tipos de pila de forma
simultánea.
• NO exponga las pilas al calor o al fuego.
• NO deje las pilas en el compartimento propio en caso
de que no vaya a usar el mando a distancia durante un
período prolongado de tiempo.
En caso contrario, podría dañarse a causa de una
filtración de electrolito.

Conexión a otro equipo

Alimentación
Para funcionar con CA doméstica

• NO lo conecte a ningún equipo sin desenchufarlo.
• NO lo conecte a ningún equipo hasta haber realizado
todas las demás conexiones.

Conecte el cable eléctrico de CA tras haber llevado a cabo
todas las demás conexiones.

Para conectarlo a un equipo analógico
Los conectores de los cables de audio están codificados
mediante su color: los conectores blancos y los enchufes
corresponden a las señales de audio de la izquierda y los rojos
a las señales de audio de la derecha.

Mediante cables de audio (no se suministran con el equipo),
conecte los enchufes de salida de audio del otro equipo a los
enchufes AUX para utilizar el otro equipo.

El cable eléctrico de CA entregado con esta unidad dispone
de conexiones unidireccionales que previenen las descargas
eléctricas. Remítase la ilustración para comprobar su correcta
conexión.
• Utilice ÚNICAMENTE el cable JVC de CA
suministrado con esta unidad, ya que en caso
contrario, puede funcionar incorrectamente o dañarse.

Para funcionar con pilas
Introduzca 8 pilas (no se suministran con el equipo) - R20/
D(13F) - en el compartimento de pilas tal como se muestra en
la ilustración.
Compruebe que ha colocado correctamente los polos + y – de
las pilas.

• En caso de que no utilice la unidad durante un período
prolongado de tiempo (más de dos semanas) o en caso de
que utilice siempre la CA, quite las pilas para evitar un
funcionamiento incorrecto o daños en la unidad.
• Cuando conecte el cable eléctrico JVC suministrado con
esta unidad, ésta pasará a utilizar automáticamente la
energía de la CA aunque el equipo disponga de pilas. Quite
las pilas cuando utilice el cable eléctrico.
Cuando las pilas estén casi agotadas, cada vez que utilice la
unidad, ésta dejará de funcionar aproximadamente un minuto
después de conectarla.
Cuando esté realizando una grabación importante, utilice
pilas nuevas (preferiblemente pilas alcalinas para prolongar
su duración) para evitar cualquier posible fallo.

Reseteo de la unidad
Si se deshabilitan las operaciones normales, le
recomendamos que resetee la unidad.

1 Apague el aparato.
2 Pulse el botón RESET de la parte posterior
de la unidad con la punta de un pequeño
destornillador u objeto similar.

Para mejorar el funcionamiento con pilas

El consumo de energía de las pilas es mayor si la unidad
funciona de forma constante que si lo hace de forma
discontinua.
El consumo de energía de las pilas también es mayor en un
lugar frío que en uno caliente.
• Se recomienda utilizar el aparato con CA en caso de que la
unidad deba funcionar de forma constante durante un
período largo de tiempo.

3 Encienda el aparato.

Para funcionar con una batería de automóvil
Use un adaptador de automóvil opcional exclusivo para estos
fines (modelo JVC CA-R120) para conectar la toma DC IN
12V que encontrará en la parte posterior de la unidad al
encendedor del automóvil.

4 Ajuste el reloj. (Consulte la página 9.)
En caso de necesidad, presintonice las emisoras desadas de
nuevo. (Consulte la página 11.)

Operaciones básicas
Conexión y desconexión del aparato

Selección de las fuentes de sonido

Para conectar la unidad, pulse POWER

Cuando pulse el botón de reproducción de cualquier fuente de
sonido (TUNER, TAPE, AUX y CD 6), la unidad se
encenderá y empezará la reproducción de la fuente de sonido en
caso de que esté preparada para hacerlo.

Para desconectar la unidad (en modo de
espera), pulse de nuevo POWER .

Para escuchar emisiones de FM/AM, pulse TUNER. (Consulte
la página 11.)
Para reproducir discos compactos, pulse CD 6. (Consulte la
página 13.)
Para reproducir una cinta, pulse TAPE. (Consulte la página
16.)
Para seleccionar un equipo externo como fuente, pulse AUX.

Para desconectar la unidad totalmente, desenchufe el cable
eléctrico de CA de la toma de CA.

Configuración del reloj
Antes de seguir operando con la unidad, configure el reloj
integrado en esta unidad.

para regular la hora y los
minutos.

Ajuste del volumen
Puede regular el volumen sólo cuando la unidad esté conectada.
• Si mantiene pulsado el botón, la hora y los minutos cambiarán
rápidamente.

4 Pulse CLOCK.
Para consultar la hora del reloj
Pulse CLOCK mientras la unidad está encendida.
Las 12 de la noche en punto se muestran como “AM 12:00” y
las 12 del mediodía en punto se muestran como “PM 12:00”.
Cuando se pulse de nuevo el botón, la pantalla mostrará el
modo que anteriormente estaba activado.

Gire en la dirección del reloj el selector
JOG-VOLUME para subir el volumen, o
en la dirección contraria para reducirlo.
• El volumen puede regularse desde VOL 0
(mínimo) hasta VOL 25.

Cuando utilice el mando a distancia, pulse
VOLUME + para elevar el volumen o
VOLUME – para reducirlo.

Para el reajuste del reloj

Si se produjo un corte de suministro eléctrico o si se
desenchufó el cable de alimentación, el reloj se detiene. En
este caso es necesario volver a ajustar el reloj.

Para audición individual

Conecte un par de auriculares al enchufe de PHONES. El sonido
no se reproducirá en los altavoces. Compruebe que ha reducido
el volumen antes de conectar o colocarse los auriculares.
NO apague (o deje en modo de espera) la unidad con el
volumen muy elevado; en caso contrario, cuando vuelva
a conectar la unidad o inicie la reproducción de
cualquier fuente la siguiente vez, podría sufrir un
impacto acústico dañino para sus oídos, altavoces y/o
auriculares.
Recuerde que no puede regular el volumen cuando la
unidad se encuentra en modo de espera.

Selección de los modos de audio

Puede disfrutar de un magnífico sonido de baja frecuencia
mediante la función Hyper Bass Sound presente en la unidad.

Puede seleccionar uno de los 4 modos de audio
preseleccionados. Los modos de audio pueden aplicarse sólo
a los sonidos reproducidos y no pueden utilizarse para la
grabación.

Para conectar esta función, pulse
HYPER-BASS SOUND.
El indicador HBS aparecerá en la
pantalla.

Para seleccionar los modos de audio,
pulse PRESET EQ hasta que aparezca
en pantalla el modo de audio que desee.

Para desconectar esta función, pulse de nuevo este botón de
manera que el indicador HBS desaparezca de la pantalla.

• Cada vez que pulse el botón, los modos de audio rotarán de
la siguiente manera:

automáticamente y emitirá la
emisora de radio previamente
sintonizada (tanto FM como AM).
• Cada vez que pulse el botón, la
banda alternará entre FM y AM.

seleccionar la banda, FM o
AM.

2 Pulse y mantenga pulsado
UP ¢ o DOWN 4
durante más de 1 segundo.

durante más de 2 segundos.
La unidad escanea la banda
seleccionada y memoriza las primeras
15 emisoras de forma automática.
A las 15 emisoras se les adjudican números de presintonía
que van de P-1 a P-15, empezando por la emisora que tenga
la frecuencia más baja.

Cuando utilice el mando a
distancia, pulse y mantenga
pulsado 4 o ¢ durante
más de 1 segundo.
La unidad iniciará la búsqueda de
emisoras y se parará cuando
sintonice una emisora con una señal
de suficiente potencia. En caso de
que el programa se esté emitiendo en
estéreo, se encenderá el indicador de
STEREO.

Para presintonizar manualmente las emisoras

seleccionar la banda FM o
AM.

Para interrumpir la búsqueda, pulse UP ¢ /DOWN 4

De forma breve repetidas veces, la frecuencia se irá
modificando poco a poco.

Para cambiar el modo de recepción
FM
Cuando se reciba de forma defectuosa o
con ruido una emisión estéreo de FM,
pulse FM MODE en el mando a
distancia de manera que se encienda el
indicador MONO en la pantalla. La
recepción del sonido mejorará.
Para volver al modo estéreo, pulse FM MODE de nuevo de
manera que el indicador MONO desaparezca.
En el modo estéreo, podrá escuchar sonido estéreo cuando lo
sea el programa que se esté emitiendo.

Ejemplo: Para presintonizar el número 5, pulse y mantenga
pulsado el 5.
Para presintonizar el número 12, pulse +10 y
después, pulse y mantenga pulsado el 2.

4 Repita el procedimiento anterior con las
demás emisoras que quiera presintonizar,
utilizando un número de presintonía
diferente.
Cuando se memoriza una nueva emisora

La emisora anteriormente memorizada se borra. (La
frecuencia de la nueva emisora sustituye en la memoria la de
la emisora anterior.)

Sintonización de una emisora presintonizada

Cuando desconecta el cable eléctrico de CA o si se
interrumpe el suministro de electricidad

Las emisoras presintonizadas desaparecerán en pocos días.
En dicho caso, presintonice de nuevo las emisoras.

Uso de las antenas
Para la recepción de FM, modifique la longitud y el ángulo
de la antena telescópica.

Para la recepción de AM, gire la unidad para cambiar la
posición de la antena integrada de núcleo de ferrita.

Reproducción de discos compactos

NOTAS SOBRE DISCOS CD-R Y CD-RW
• Esta unidad puede reproducir CD-R (discos grabables) y
CD-RW (discos pregrabables) así como discos compactos
convencionales. No obstante, tanto los discos grabables
como los pregabables deben haber sido “finalizados”
para que se puedan reproducir correctamente en esta
unidad.
La “finalización” es un proceso mediante el cual se crea
una TOC (tabla de contenidos) en un disco grabado. En
caso de que intente reproducir un disco sin finalizar,
especialmente un CD-RW sin finalizar en esta unidad,
puede producirse un mal funcionamiento ya que el disco no
dispone de tabla de contenidos.
• Cuando se carga o descarga un CD-R o CD-RW sin
finalizar, es posible que requiera mucho más tiempo del
habitual pero ello no es indicio de un mal funcionamiento.
• Esta unidad no permite el salto de pistas. Incluso si un
CD-R o CD-RW se crea de forma que algunas pistas se
salten durante la reproducción, esta unidad las reproducirá
enteramente.

Cuando pulse 0 ALL, los tres
compartimentos de disco se abrirán de
forma simultánea.
Coloque un disco en el compartimento de discos 3,
introduzca manualmente el compartimento 3 en la unidad;
coloque un disco en el compartimento 2, introduzca
manualmente el compartimento 2 en la unidad y entonces,
coloque un disco en el compartimento 1. Finalmente, pulse
0 ALL para cerrar el compartimento.

Carga de discos compactos
Sobre los indicadores de disco

0 para elegir el

Secuencia de reproducción del disco compacto

Cuando se cargan 3 discos compactos, se reproducirán siguiendo
una de estas tres secuencias.
• Cuando la reproducción se inicie con CD1: CD1 ] CD2 ]
CD3 (en este momento se interrumpirá)
• Cuando la reproducción se inicie con CD2: CD2 ] CD3 ]
CD1 (en este momento se interrumpirá)
• Cuando la reproducción se inicie con CD3: CD3 ] CD1 ]
CD2 (en este momento se interrumpirá)
En caso de que se carguen únicamente 2 discos compactos, se
reproducirán en el mismo orden pero la unidad se saltará el
compartimento sin disco.

Operaciones básicas con discos compactos
Mientras esté reproduciendo un disco compacto, puede realizar
las siguientes operaciones.

Para cambiar discos compactos durante la
reproducción de otro
Pulse CD1 0, CD2 0 o CD3 0, según corresponda al disco
compacto que no está siendo reproducido, para abrir su
compartimento y cambiar de disco.

Pulsando los botones numéricos durante
la reproducción o con el disco parado,
podrá iniciar la reproducción de la pista
correspondiente al número de pista
especificado.
Ejemplo:Para el número de pista 5,
pulse 5.
Para el número de pista 15,
pulse +10 y luego, 5.
Para el número de pista 20,
pulse +10 y luego, 10.
Para el número de pista 32,
pulse +10, +10, +10 y luego, 2.

Programación del orden de reproducción de
las pistas — Reproducción programada
Puede disponer el orden en el que se reproducirán las pistas
antes de iniciar la reproducción utilizando el mando a
distancia. Puede programar hasta 20 pistas.
• Para repetir la reproducción del programa, pulse REPEAT
en el mando a distancia tras iniciar la reproducción del
programa.

1 Cargue los discos.
2 Pulse PROGRAM.

Para parar la reproducción momentáneamente

Pulse REPEAT de manera que se
encienda el indicador REPEAT.
La pista en cuestión se reproducirá
repetidamente.

Para repetir un disco compacto
Compruebe que el indicador LONG PLAY no esté encendido
en la pantalla (en caso contrario, pulse LONG PLAY para
hacerlo desaparecer). Pulse REPEAT de manera que se
enciendan el indicador REPEAT ALL.
El disco seleccionado se reproducirá repetidas veces.

Para repetir todas las pistas de todos los discos
compactos
Pulse LONG PLAY para que se encienda el indicador LONG
PLAY. Pulse REPEAT para que se encienda los indicadores
de REPEAT ALL y ALL DISC.
Todas las pistas de todos los discos compactos se reproducirá
repetidas veces.

Utilice únicamente cintas del tipo I.

3 Introduzca una cinta con la cara expuesta
hacia abajo.

3 Pulse PAUSE 8 y PLAY 3 para la platina A.
Cuando la cinta de la platina B alcance su final, la
reproducción de la cinta se detendrá, comenzando
automáticamente la reproducción de la cinta que hay en la
platina A.

4 Cierre el portacintas con cuidado.
5 Pulse PLAY 3 en la platina en la que ha
introducido la cinta.

Grabación de cintas en la platina A

IMPORTANTE:
• Debemos advertir que la grabación de cintas,
grabaciones o discos pregrabados sin el consentimiento
del propietario de la patente en grabaciones audio o
vídeo, emisiones de radio o por cable así como de
cualquier componente literario, dramático, musical o
artístico que se incluya en ellas, puede ser ilegal.
• El nivel de grabación se configura automáticamente por lo
que no se ve afectado por el selector JOG-VOLUME. Por
tanto, durante la grabación puede regular el sonido que esté
escuchando sin que ello afecte al volumen de grabación.
• Mientras esté grabando, puede escuchar modos de audio y/
o el efecto de realce del sonido de baja frecuencia a través
de los altavoces o auriculares. No obstante, el sonido se
grabará sin dichos efectos (consulte la página 10).
• Si las grabaciones que ha realizado contienen demasiado
ruido, es posible que la unidad esté cerca de una TV.
Aumente la distancia entre ambos componentes.
• Para la grabación, utilice únicamente cintas del tipo I.

Para proteger su grabación
Las cintas tienen dos pequeñas pestañas en la parte posterior
para protegerlas de un borrado inesperado o de una nueva
grabación.
Para proteger su grabación, quite estas pestañas.
Para volver a grabar una cita protegida, tape los agujeros con
cinta adhesiva.

1 Pulse STOP/EJECT § en la platina A.

2 Introduzca una cinta grabable con la parte
expuesta hacia abajo.
3 Cierre con cuidado el portacintas.
4 Prepare la fuente de sonido que vaya a
grabar.
• Para grabar de la FM o AM, pulse TUNER para
seleccionar la banda y sintonice la emisión deseada.
• Para grabar de un disco compacto, cargue el disco en
uno de los compartimentos, inicie su reproducción e
interrúmpala para seleccionar ese disco compacto.

5 Inicie la grabación.
Pulse REC ¶ en la platina A. Pulse simultáneamente
PLAY 3 y se iniciará la grabación.

• Cuando la fuente de sonido sea un disco compacto, y
éste se encuentre en modo de parada, la reproducción
comenzará automáticamente desde la primera pista.
• Cuando la fuente es un CD y el CD está en modo de
pausa, la reproducción del CD comienza
automáticamente desde la posición de pausa.
• Cuando la cinta llega al final, se detendrá la grabación y
la reproducción del disco compacto también se detendrá
automáticamente.
Para interrumpir la grabación, pulse STOP/EJECT §
en la platina A.
Para interrumpir momentáneamente la grabación, pulse
PAUSE 8 en la platina A. Para reanudar la grabación, vuelva
a pulsar PAUSE 8 .

Cuando grabe una emisión AM, es posible que se escuche un
ritmo de fondo (que no se oye nunca cuando se está
únicamente escuchando la emisión sin grabarla).
En caso de que esto ocurra, pulse BEAT
CANCEL hasta que los ritmos se
eliminen.

Copia de cintas
1 Pulse TAPE.
2 Pulse STOP/EJECT § en la platina A e
introduzca una cinta grabable con la parte
expuesta hacia abajo. Después, cierre con
cuidado el portacintas.
3 Pulse STOP/EJECT § en la platina B e
introduzca una cinta original con la parte
expuesta hacia abajo. Después, cierre con
cuidado el portacintas.
4 Pulse PAUSE 8 y REC ¶ en la platina A.
La platina A entra en modo de espera de grabación.

5 Pulse PLAY 3 en la platina B para iniciar la
reproducción.
Se libera el botón PAUSE 8 de la platina A y el copiado
comienza automáticamente.

Uso de los temporizadores

Hay dos temporizadores disponibles – el temporizador de
encendido y el de apagado. Antes de utilizar los temporizadores,
necesita configurar el reloj integrado en la unidad. (Consulte la
página 9).

6 Pulse TIMER.
El nombre de la fuente de sonido
(“TUNER” o “Cd”) parpadeará en la
pantalla.

Uso del temporizador de encendido
7 Pulse UP ¢ o DOWN 4
para seleccionar la fuente de
sonido deseada.

Con el temporizador de encendido, puede despertarse con su
música o programa de radio favoritos.

Funcionamiento del temporizador de encendido
La unidad se conecta automáticamente, configura el volumen al
nivel programado e inicia la reproducción de la fuente de sonido
indicada (radio o disco compacto) cuando llega la hora
programada. Durante la reproducción, el indicador parpadea.
Cuando llega el momento de apagado, la unidad se desconecta
automáticamente (modo de espera).
La configuración del temporizador se guarda en la memoria
hasta que desee cambiarla.
• Existe un límite de tiempo para realizar los siguientes pasos.
En caso de que la configuración se anule antes de poder
terminarla, vuelva a empezar desde el paso 1.

1 Pulse POWER para

• Para escuchar la radio, seleccione
“TUNER”.
• Para escuchar un disco compacto,
seleccione “Cd”.

8 Pulse TIMER.
“VOL - -” (o un volumen determinado
como VOL 6) parpadeará en la

para configurar el volumen.
• Cuando la configuración del
volumen sea “VOL- -” (volumen sin
especificar), el volumen de
producción del temporizador
corresponderá al volumen utilizado
antes de configurarlo.

11 Prepare la fuente de sonido.
• Para escuchar la radio, pulse TUNER para seleccionar la
banda y sintonice la emisora deseada.
• Para escuchar un disco compacto, cargue el disco en el
compartimento seleccionado.
• Para escuchar dos o tres discos sucesivamente, cargue los
discos y pulse LONG PLAY y luego STOP 7 de manera
que se encienda el indicador LONG PLAY en la pantalla.

4 Pulse TIMER.
La hora de apagado parpadeará en la
pantalla.

Uso del temporizador de apagado

Con el temporizador de apagado, puede dormirse escuchando
música.
Puede configurar el temporizador de apagado cuando la
unidad esté conectada mediante el mando a distancia.

Funcionamiento del temporizador de apagado
La unidad se desconecta automáticamente cuando transcurre
el período de tiempo especificado.

1 Pulse SLEEP en el mando a
distancia.
El indicador SLEEP aparecerá en
pantalla así como el tiempo
establecido hasta que se apague la
unidad.
• Cada vez que pulse el botón, el lapso de tiempo (en
minutos) rotará de la siguiente manera:

2 Espere unos 5 segundos antes de especificar
la duración de la espera.
El indicador SLEEP permanecerá encendido.
Para consultar el tiempo restante hasta el apagado de la
unidad, pulse SLEEP una vez y el tiempo restante hasta el
apagado se podrá ver durante 5 segundos.
Para modificar el tiempo de apagado, pulse varias veces
SLEEP hasta que aparezca en pantalla la cantidad de tiempo
deseada.
Para anular la configuración, pulse varias veces SLEEP
hasta que el indicador SLEEP se apague.
• El temporizador de apagado también se anula cuando apaga
la unidad.

Manipulación de discos

Manipulación de cintas

• Saque el disco de su funda
sujetándolo por el borde al mismo
tiempo que presiona ligeramente el
centro.
• No toque la superficie brillante del
disco ni lo doble.
• Vuelva a poner el disco en su funda
cuando termine de usarlo para evitar
que se raye.

• En caso de que la cinta se haya
soltado en su funda, rebobínela
introduciendo un lápiz en una de sus
bobinas y girando.
• En caso de que la cinta siga suelta,
puede dañarse, cortarse o quedarse
atrapada en algún punto de la cinta.
• Tenga cuidado de no tocar la
superficie de la cinta.

• Tenga cuidado de no arañar al
superficie del disco cuando lo
introduzca de nuevo en su funda.
• Evite la exposición a la luz directa del
sol, a temperaturas extremas o a
humedad.

• Evite los siguientes lugares de
almacenamiento de cintas:
— En lugares con polvo
— En lugares expuestos a la luz
directa del sol o a fuentes de calor
— En lugares húmedos
— Cerca de un imán

Para limpiar el disco

Limpie cuidadosamente el disco con un
paño suave desde el centro hacia el
borde en línea recta.

NO utilice disolvente alguno — como un limpiador
convencional de discos, un spray, disolventes o bencina
— para limpiar el disco.

Platinas de las cintas
Si los cabezales, los rodillos móviles y los rodillos de presión
de las platinas están sucios, puede ocurrir lo siguiente:
• Calidad de sonido irregular
• Sonido discontinuo
• Sonido amortiguado
• Borrado parcial
• Dificultad para grabar
Para limpiar los cabezales, los rodillos móviles y los
rodillos de presión
Utilice un paño de algodón empapado en alcohol.
