Getting Started
To charge the battery using the USB Synching/Charging Cable or Serial Synching/Charging Cable:
a. Connect the power supply to the USB or Serial Synching/Charging cable.
b. Connect snap-on end of USB or Serial Synching/Charging cable to bottom of device making sure the
word “TOP” on the connector faces front.
c. Plug in the power supply. Use only easily accessible wall outlets that are easily reached with the length
of supplied power cable.

B. CHARGING THE BATTERY
Important Note: The main battery charges the backup battery in the XM Series unit. Once the main battery is
fully charged, do not remove it from the unit for 24 hours. During this period the device cannot maintain any
user data if the battery is removed.

INSTALLING THE BATTERY
1. To access the battery compartment, turn the battery screw counterclockwise to open the latch and
remove battery cover.
2. Position the battery-lift strap, place the Lithium-ion battery and snap into place.
3. Replace the battery cover by positioning the top prongs first and sliding cover into place.  
Tighten battery screw by turning clockwise.

CALIBRATING THE SCREEN
The first time the device is turned on, the Welcome Utility appears.  To set up the device, follow the
on-screen instructions using the stylus to tap the exact center of each target
Note: If your XM Series device came pre-loaded with a custom software application, the Welcome Utility
may not appear.
B. ATTACHING THE HANDSTRAP
To attach the handstrap, first align the two holes in the metal handstrap anchor at the two handstrap screw
ports. Then, for each side, place one of the screws provided into a lined up screw hole/screw port and turn
clockwise. Secure both sides before fully tightening down the screws.
Separate velcro to extend the handstrap and feed loose end through the handstrap bar. Fasten velcro
together to close the strap. Fit strap and secure device to user’s hand by adjusting velcro as needed.
To charge the battery using the Single-Slot or Four-Slot Cradle:
a. Connect the power supply to the cradle.
b. Connect the line cord to the power supply.
c. Plug in the power supply. Use only easily accessible wall outlets that are easily reached with the length of
supplied power cable.
d. Place the device in cradle.  The LED on the device will illuminate to confirm connection (orange indicates
charging, green indicates fully charged and red indicates fault).
e. The battery is fully charged in approximately 2 hours.
f. Charge a spare battery by placing the battery in the spare battery well with label up and connectors lined up.

Care and Cleaning of Terminals
When needed, clean the image engine window and the LCD display with a clean, non-abrasive, lint-free cloth.
The terminal can be cleaned with a damp cloth.
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Information
This product has required the extraction and use of natural resources for its production. It may contain hazardous
substances that could impact health and the environment, if not properly disposed.
In order to avoid the dissemination of those substances in our environment and to diminish the pressure on the
natural resources, we encourage you to use the appropriate take-back systems for product disposal. Those systems
will reuse or recycle most of the materials of the product you are disposing in a sound way.
The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol informs you that the product should not be disposed of along with municipal

Battery Safety Guidelines
Use only Janam batteries and recharge batteries using only Janam approved charging accessories. Observe the
following guidelines for safe use of Li-Ion batteries:

Do not expose the battery to excessive heat or cold. Do not short-circuit. It may explode.
To avoid risk of fire, burn or damage to your battery, do not allow a metal object to touch battery contacts.
Do not disassemble the battery. There are no user serviceable parts inside.
If battery leakage is observed, avoid any contact with affected area and properly dispose of the battery.
If you come in contact with battery leakage, rinse exposed area with soap and water. If it contacts the eye,
flush the eye with water for 15 minutes and seek medical attention.
When discarding a battery, contact your local waste disposal provider to understand local restrictions for
disposal or recycling of batteries.
