LCD SCREEN UP MONITOR DOWN menu mon pwr scan MIC SCAN POWER MENU SPEAKER 2. Press the TALK button to communicate on that channel and leave the scan mode, or press or to continue scanning for other active channels. 3. Press the SCAN button again to stop scanning. MONITORING CHANNELS By pressing the MONITOR button, you are able to 'listen' to all traffic or noise active on the current channel, regardless of signal strength and subcode settings. For continuous monitoring, press and hold the MONITOR button for at least three seconds. To deactivate continuous monitoring, press the MONITOR button again. CALL The Handheld 2-Way Radio is equipped with a call feature that allows you to alert another party. In order for the call feature to work, all radios must be on. 1. Press the CALL button once. Transmit Indicator will light RED and the TX symbol will appear BATTERY LIFE INDICATOR SCAN CHANNELS KEY LOCK VOICE-ACTIVATED TRANSMISSION BATTERY INSTALLATION The Handheld 2-Way Radio is designed to incorporate both standard alkaline batteries and the GE/Sanyo Rechargeable Battery Pack (GES-NCF01FR). This battery pack can be purchased separately. 1. Remove the belt clip by pushing up on it while pulling on the battery clip tab. 2. Remove the battery cover by sliding it down. Use 4 X AAA alkaline battery or Ni-Cd battery pack GP35AAAK4BX or JB35AAANC4BC If using the GE/Sanyo Rechargeable Battery Pack (GES-NCF01FR): 3. Insert the rechargeable battery pack making sure that the metal contacts are facing out (toward the battery cover). 4. Replace the battery cover and belt clip. IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE THAT YOU USE ONLY THE RECHARGEABLE BATTERY PACK THAT IS SPECIFIED ABOVE (GES-NCF01FR). USING ANOTHER MAY NOT WORK AS THE UNIT IS DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR IT. If using the special rechargeable battery pack, you can purchase the GE Wireless Intercom (GE5811-WCOM), which is equipped with two convenient charging cradles. You can have multiple handheld units and intercoms to complete your family communications needs. The units will all communicate with each other as long as they are set to the same channel and subcode (see SETTING THE CHANNEL and SETTING THE SUBCODE for more information). CAUTION: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RECHARGE ALKALINE BATTERIES. KEEP THE HANDHELD UNITS OUT OF THE CHARGING CRADLES WHEN USING STANDARD BATTERIES. IMPORTANT: Remove batteries before storing the Handheld 2-Way Radio for extended periods. Batteries corrode over time and may cause VOICE-ACTIVATED TRANSMISSION The Handheld 2-Way Radio is equipped with a voice-activated transmission mode (hands-free mode). The unit will transmit voice signals (and other loud sounds) without having to press the TALK button. 1. Press the MENU button repeatedly until the symbol flashes on the LCD. 2. Use the button to enable voice activated transmission and the button to disable it. 3. Press the TALK button to confirm the selection and return to the standby mode.
