TheMUTE button, is used to temporarily mute the handset microphone.UP/DOWN ButtonThe   UP   or  DOWN  button let you scroll through menus and logs, and adjust the handsetvolume.Dial PadNumeric keys are used  in the conventional manner for dialing.FLASH/EDIT ButtonThe  FLASH/EDIT  button is used to access telephone company services, like call waiting.It is also used to create and edit phone book entries.SAVE/MEM ButtonThe  SAVE  button is also used to save numbers into the phone book and other settings.Use MEM  button to program and retrieve the numbers in the speed dial directory.SCAN ButtonThe  SCAN  button, when pressed, will scan to 50 channels and select the clearest one toprovide the best possible reception.Temporary Tone/View Left {     /     }  ButtonIf the base is set to pulse dialing, pressing causes subsequent digits to be dialed out usingtone until the line is put back on hook. Getting StartedConnecting Your PhoneThis section is a reference guide to the basic functions of your cordless telephone. For moredetailed descriptions of the operations and features of this telephone, refer to the Contentson page 1.Carefully remove your cordless telephone from its shipping carton. If there is any vis-ible damage, do not attempt to operate this equipment. Return it to the place of purchase.Check to be sure you have all items that come with this cordless telephone system. Getting StartedBATTERY INSTALLATION (HANDSET)Remove the battery compartment cover of thehandset by pressing the top of the cover andsliding it down. Connect the rechargeablebatteries.Slide the handset BATTERY COMPARTMENTCOVER firmly into place in its closed position.IMPORTANT: Before initial use, charge thehandset for 12 hours.TONE/PULSE Select Switch:8.9.10.If your home is equipped with a tone dial-ing system, set the TONE/PULSE SelectSwitch to the TONE position.If you have a rotary dialing system, setthe TONE/PULSE Select Switch to PULSEposition.If you are unsure which system you have,set the TONE/PULSE Select Switch to theTONE position. Press the button on thehandset and make a call. If the callconnects, leave the switch as is; other-wise set to the PULSE position.11.A.B.C.CAUTION: The cordless telephone operates at a frequency that may cause interference tonearby TVs and VCRs; the base phone should not be placed near, or on top of a TV or VCR.If interference is experienced, moving the cordless telephone farther away from the TV orVCR will often reduce or eliminate the interference.Note: White the 2.4GHz frequency is inherently clearer, we suggest that you do not use thisphone within 20 feet of a working microwave. The microwave produces frequencies in thisrange which may cause interference. Wall Mounting (See Figure 2)You may choose to put the base unit of your cordless telephone on a wall.With the back of the base unit facing up, connect SHORT TELEPHONE LINE CORD tothe TELEPHONE LINE CONNECTION JACK.Insert the free end of the SHORT TELEPHONE LINE CORD through the hole of theMOUNTING  BRACKET.Insert the hooks of the MOUNTING BRACKET (following the arrow direction for the WALLMOUNT) into the matching slots of the base unit. Then slide the MOUNTING BRACKETinto place as indicated by the arrow. Plug the free end of the SHORT TELEPHONE LINECORD into the MODULAR WALL JACK.Align the upper keyhole on the MOUNTING BRACKET with the upper stud of the wallplate, so that the opening end of the MOUNTING BRACKET matches the lower stud, thenpull the base unit down until it is securely seated.Desk and Wall MountingDesk MountingOne of the special features of your telephone is the unique design of the MOUNTING BRACKETwhich can hold your phone at an angle of 30  when desk mounting. There are two position tochoose from:NORMAL POSITION (MOUNTING BRACKET not required):For normal position, place the base unit on any desired but suitable location.30  POSITION (See Figure 1):With the back of the base unit facing up, insert the hooks of the MOUNTING BRACKET(following the arrow direction for the DESK MOUNT) into the matching slots of the baseunit. Cordless Telephone OperationPreparing for UseBefore you can use your cordless telephone, you must charge the handset for 12 hours.Failure to do so will require recharging of the battery more often.Before you can use your cordless telephone, you must charge the handset for12 hours. Failure to do so will require more frequent charging of the battery.NOTE:Depending on the frequency of use, once the handset is fully charged, it remains func-tional for approximately 4 hours of continuous use and approximately 5 days when thehandset is off the BASE UNIT in STANDBY mode.Receiving CallsIf the handset is in the base, lift the handset andit will automatically turn ON. This auto-answerfeature can be programmed OFF (see handsetsettings).If the handset is off the base, the display will show“RING”. Cordless Telephone OperationPlacing CallsUsing the Handset FeaturePick up the handset from the base unit.Press the  TALK  button, the Call Timer start tocount. The handset LCD Screen will display“TALK”. The base unit IN USE LED indicator willlight up.Listen for a dial tone.Dial the phone number.When you have finished your call, press theTALK  button again or place the handset on thebase unit.1.2.3.4.5.Your telephone can utilize a headset to be connectedto your handset for you to enjoy hands-freecommunication. Insert the small plug at the end of theheadset into the HEADSET JACK at the left side ofthe handset. Follow the procedures discussed in “Re-ceiving Calls” and “Placing Calls” to receive and placea call.NOTE: When you plug the headset plug into the HEAD-SET JACK it automatically mutes the MICROPHONEand SPEAKER of the handset. Unplug the headset toreturn the handset to normal use.Headsets are available at most retail outlets that selltelephone equipment. Cordless Telephone OperationRedial FeatureIf you get a busy tone, press the  TALKbutton or place the handset on the base unitto hang up.Later, press the  TALK  button again.Listen for a dial tone.Press the  DEL/RE/PA  button. This willautomatically redial the last telephone num-ber you called (up to 32 digits).When you have finished with your call, pressthe  TALK  button again or place the hand-set on the base unit.NOTE:You can also press the  DEL/RE/PA  buttonfirst to display the number and then pressthe  TALK  button to dial the numberdisplayed.Additional OptionsPress the     UP    or    DOWN    button during a call untilthe desired volume level is reached.Adjust the volume in the earpieceDO THIS:TO:Switch to temporary tone dialingPress the   FLASH/EDIT   button to go to the newcaller. Caller ID System OperationHandset SettingsYou can change the setting on the handset in the options menu. Access the options menu bypressing the PROG/MUTE button in the standby mode until “ENGLISH” is displayed.There are 12 setting in the options menu which can be changed. You can scroll through theoption menu in the listed order by pressing the  UP  button. Settings which have a listednumber can be reached directly by pressing that number on the keypad.To edit most settings, press the  FLASH/EDIT  button, use the  UP  or  DOWN  button to togglebetween the setting options, and then press the  SAVE/MEM  button to save changes. Youcan continue programming options by using the dial keys or the  UP  or  DOWN  button to goto a new setting. Press the  PROG/MUTE  button to exit the options menu.Language: Change the language that appears on the display. Choose betweenEnglish, French, and Spanish.First Ring On/Off: Turn the first ring of the phone off so that it does not ring untilthe caller ID information has been displayed. Particularly useful when using thepriority and blocked call features or the private and unavailable ring settings.Time Set: Change the time and date.Area Code: Allows the programming of a home area code where 7-digit dialingis used for ease of callback and other features.Contrast: Adjust the brightness of the display for optimum viewing.PBX Number: Number used to access PBX dialing options. The default settingis “9”.PBX Mode On/Off: Determines if the “PBX Number” is used before an outgoingnumber is dialed. When “On”, automatically dials the PBX number and a pause,before any speed dial or caller ID callback number. Caller ID System OperationKey FunctionPause Time: Allows you to adjust the number of seconds that a pause lastssuch as during programmed pauses in your speed dial numbers or after yourPBX number is dialed.MSG Waiting Delete: Clears any current message waiting indication.Auto Answer On/Off: Turns on and off the feature which makes the phoneautomatically go off-hook when the handset is picked up from the base while thephone is ringing.Private Ring On/Off: Turns on and off the ring for all calls where the caller hasblocked their caller ID. The new caller’s nameand phone number, if available, appears on thedisplay. Please contact your local tele-phone company to check if this is available in your area.If you wish to delete the “Message Waiting” message, delete it as described inthe handset setting section “Deleting the Message Waiting Indication”.Paging the HandsetPress the PAGE button on the base unit. Technical InformationTechnical InformationThis cordless telephone uses radio frequencies to allow mobility. There are certain difficultiesin using radio frequencies with a cordless telephone. While these are normal, the followingcould affect the operation of your system.NoiseElectrical pulse noise is present in most homes at one time or another. This noise is mostintense during electrical storms. Certain kinds of electrical equipment such as light dimmers,fluorescent bulbs, motors, and fans also generate noise pulses. Because radio frequenciesare susceptible to these noise pulses, you may occasionally hear them in your handset.Generally they are a minor annoyance and should not be interpreted as a defect in yoursystem.RangeBecause radio frequency is used, the location of the base unit can affect the operating range.Try several locations in your home or office and pick the one that gives you the clearest signalto the handset.InterferenceElectronic circuits activate a relay to connect the cordless telephone to your telephone line.These electronic circuits operate in the radio frequency spectrum. While several protectioncircuits are used to prevent unwanted signals, these may be periods when these unwantedsignals enter the base unit. You may hear clicks or hear the relay activate while you are notusing the handset. If the interference occurs frequently, it can be minimized or eliminated bylowering the height of your base unit antenna or by relocating the base unit.
