Do not use tool while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Contain long hair. Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry or long hair can be caught in moving parts. Avoid accidental starting. Be sure switch is in the locked or “OFF” position before inserting battery pack. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or inserting battery pack into a tool with the power switch “ON” invites accidents. Remove adjusting keys or wrenches before turning the tool “ON”. A wrench or a key that is left attached to a rotating part of the tool may result in personal injury. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. Proper footing and balance enable better control of the tool in unexpected situations. Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection must be used for appropriate conditions. TOOL USE AND CARE Use clamps or other practical ways to secure and support the workpiece to a stable platform. Holding the work by hand or against your body is unstable and may lead to loss of control. Do not force tool. Use the correct tool for your application. The correct tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it is designed. Do not use the tool if the power switch does not turn it “ON” or “OFF”. A tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. Disconnect battery pack from tool or place the switch in the locked or “OFF” position before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing the tool. Such preventative safety measures reduce the risk of starting the tool accidentally. 5 Store idle tools out of reach of children and other untrained persons. Tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects like: paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal objects that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause sparks, burns or a fire. Maintain tools with care. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained tools with sharp cutting edge are less likely to bind and are easier to control. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any other condition that may affect the tool’s operation. If damaged, have the tool serviced before using. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained tools. Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for your model. Accessories that may be suitable for one tool may create a risk of injury when used on another tool. SERVICE Tool service must be performed only by qualified repair personnel. Service or maintenance by unqualified personnel may result in a risk of injury. When servicing a tool, use only identical replacement parts. Follow instructions in the Maintenance section of this manual. Use of unauthorized parts or failure to follow Maintenance Instructions may create a risk of shock or injury. SAFETY RULES FOR CIRCULAR SAW NEVER assume the blade has stopped just because the trigger has been released. Blades may continue moving even after the motor stops. Always wear safety goggles or eye protection when using this tool. Use a dust mask or respirator for applications which generate dust. This saw may throw up debris that could lodge in the eyes causing severe pain or injury. Inspect the bolts and blade washers before each use. Damaged or incorrect bolts or blade washers can cause injury. When using the Circular Saw, always maintain a firm grip on the tool with both hands. Never put your hands or feet in the cutting area. Do not grasp the tool or place your hands too close to the blade. Keep your hands well away from the blade. Never reach underneath the tool while the blade is in motion. Do not use your legs or feet to stabilize the work piece. Keep the handle of the Cordless Circular Saw dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Do not run the Cordless Circular Saw while carrying it at your side. A moving blade could cause serious personal injury. Disconnect battery pack from tool and place the switch in the locked or “OFF” position before making any assembly adjustments, changing accessories, performing any inspection, maintenance or cleaning procedures. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the tool accidentally which could cause serious personal injury. Be extra careful when cutting in high or hard-to-reach locations. Avoid sawing overhead. Be on the lookout for hidden wires and falling debris. Do not use the Cordless Circular Saw if it has been damaged, left outdoors in the rain, snow, wet or damp environments, or immersed in liquid. Maintain labels and nameplates on the Cordless Circular Saw. These carry important information. If unreadable or missing, contact Alltrade for a replacement. SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES AND/OR SYMBOLS Keep hands away from cutting area and blade. Keep your second hand on auxiliary handle or motor housing. If both hands are holding the saw, they cannot be cut by the blade. Keep your body positioned to either side of the saw blade, but not in line with the saw blade. KICKBACK could cause the saw to jump backwards (See “Causes and Prevention of Kickback”). Do not reach underneath the work. The guard cannot protect you from the blade below the work. Check lower guard for proper closing before each use. Do not operate saw if lower guard does not move freely and close instantly. Never clamp or tie lower guard into the open position. If saw is accidentally dropped, lower guard may be bent. Raise the lower guard with the Retracting Handle and make sure it moves freely and does not touch the blade or any other part, in all angles and depths of cut. Check the operation and condition of the lower guard spring. If the guard and the spring are not operating properly, they must be serviced before use. Lower guard may operate sluggishly due to damaged parts, gummy deposits, or a buildup of debris. 7 Lower guard should be retracted manually only for special cuts such as “Pocket Cuts” and “Compound Cuts.” Raise lower guard by Retracting Handle. As soon as the blade enters the material, lower guard must be released. For all other sawing, the lower guard should operate automatically. Always observe that the lower guard is covering the blade before placing saw down on bench or floor. An unprotected, coasting blade will cause the saw to walk backwards, cutting whatever is in its path. Be aware of the time it takes for the blade to stop after the switch is released. NEVER hold piece being cut in your hands or across your leg. It is important to support the work properly to minimize body exposure, blade binding, or loss of control. Hold tool by insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where the cutting tool may contact hidden wiring. Contact with a “live” wire will also make exposed metal parts of the tool “live” and shock the operator. When ripping always use a rip fence or straight edge guide. This improves the accuracy of the cut and reduces the chance for blade binding. Always use blades with correct size and shape (diamond vs. round) arbor holes. Blades that do not match the mounting hardware of the saw will run eccentrically, causing loss of control. Never use damaged or incorrect blade washers or bolts. The blade washers and bolts were specifically designed for your saw, for optimum performance and safety of operation. CAUSES AND PREVENTION OF KICKBACK Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched, bound, or misaligned saw blade, causing an uncontrolled saw to lift up and out of the work piece toward the operator. When the blade is pinched or bound tightly by the kerf closing down, the blade stalls and the motor reaction drives the unit rapidly back toward the operator. If the blade becomes twisted or misaligned in the cut, the teeth at the back edge of the blade can dig into the top surface of the wood causing the blade to climb out of the kerf and jump back toward the operator. Kickback is the result of tool misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below: Maintain a firm grip on the saw and position your body and arm in a way that allows you to resist KICKBACK forces. KICKBACK forces can be controlled by the operator, if proper precautions are taken. 8 When blade is binding, or when interrupting a cut for any reason, release the trigger and hold the saw motionless in the material until the blade comes to a complete stop. Never attempt to remove the saw from the work or pull the saw backward while the blade is in motion or KICKBACK may occur. Investigate and take corrective actions to eliminate the cause of blade binding. The battery is not fully charged. Before first use, the battery pack requires 3-5 hours charge time to be fully charged. Subsequent recharging needs 1 hour for the battery to be fully charged. When restarting a saw in the work piece, center the saw blade in the kerf and check that teeth are not engaged into the material. If saw blade is binding, it may walk up or KICKBACK from the work piece as the saw is restarted. Always switch to a fresh battery when tool performance begins to diminish. Severe heat is most destructive to a battery; the more heat generated, the faster the battery loses power. A battery that gets too hot can have a shortened life. Support large panels to minimize the risk of blade pinching and KICKBACK. Large panels tend to sag under their own weight. Supports must be placed under the panel on both sides, near the line of cut and near the edge of the panel. Never over-discharge a battery by using the tool even after tool performance has decreased. Do not attempt to discharge a tool’s battery by continuing to pull on the tool trigger. When tool performance begins to diminish, stop the tool and recharge the battery for optimal performance. Do not use dull or damaged blade. Unsharpened or improperly set blades produce narrow kerf causing excessive friction, blade binding and KICKBACK. Blade depth and bevel adjusting locking levers must be tight and secure before making cut. If blade adjustment shifts while cutting, it will cause binding and KICKBACK. Use extra caution when making a “Pocket Cut” into existing walls or other blind areas. The protruding blade may cut objects that can cause KICKBACK. BATTERY Before using battery pack, please read carefully all instructions and cautionary markings on battery pack, battery charger and product using battery. Do not incinerate the battery pack even if it is severely damaged or is completely worn out. The battery pack can explode. Do not carry battery packs in aprons, pockets, or tool boxes, product kit boxes, drawers, etc. with loose metal objects. Battery pack terminals could be short circuited causing damage to the battery pack, severe burns or fire. The battery pack is Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cad) and is considered to be a toxic material by the Environmental Protection Agency. Before disposing of damaged or worn out Ni-Cad battery packs, check with your State Environmental Protection Agency to find out about special restrictions on the disposal of these battery packs, take them to your local recycling center for proper disposal, or call 1-800-CLEANUP. 9 Charge battery pack at ambient temperatures between 50° F – 104° F. Store tool and battery pack in locations where temperatures will not exceed 120°F. This is important to prevent serious damage to the battery cells. The battery pack should always be recharged when the Cordless Drill begins to run slowly. When battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects such as paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause sparks, burns, or fire. REMOVING / ATTACHING BATTERY PACK REMOVE BATTERY PACK: 1. CHARGER Before using battery charger, please read carefully all instructions and cautionary markings on battery charger, battery pack and product using battery. The charger will not automatically turn “OFF” when the battery pack is fully charged. The charging indicator light will remain “ON” until the charger is disconnected from the electrical outlet. Use only the charger which accompanied your product or direct replacement as listed in this manual. Do not substitute any other charger. Use only Alltrade approved chargers with your product. Do not disassemble charger. Do not use charger if it has been damaged, left outdoors in the rain, snow, wet or damp environments, or immersed in liquid. The battery pack and charger heat during charging. Place the charger on a flat, non-flammable surface away from flammable materials with at least four inches of clearance to allow proper air circulation around the charger and battery pack. When the battery pack requires recharging, a 1 hour charge allows the tool to operate at full power. A charging indicator light on the charger will illuminate to show that charging is taking place. 3. If, when first inserting the battery pack, the red “ON” button does not light up, press the “SET” button on the charger. When the battery is charging, the red light is “ON”. 4. After approximately one hour of charging, the red indicator light should go “OFF” and the green light should come “ON”. The green light indicates that the battery is fully charged. 5. When fully charged, reattach battery pack onto Cordless Circular Saw, making certain latches fasten securely. Cordless Circular Saw will not operate properly if the battery pack is not saeted properly. SYMBOLS IMPORTANT: Some of the following symbols may be used on your tool. Always keep the ventilation openings clear. Always clean the battery pack using only a dry cloth. Do not use liquids. Always unplug the charger before cleaning it. Regularly clean the ventilation slots in your tool and charger using only a soft brush or dry cloth. Inspect all mounting screws regularly. Tighten any loose screws. Failure to keep the mounting screws tight could result in serious injuries. Never open the Cordless Circular Saw case, battery pack or charger. Do not attempt to repair the Cordless Circular Saw, battery pack or charger yourself. Opening any of these parts will void your warranty. If you must use an extension cord, be sure that the gauge is large enough to carry the amount of current necessary for your power tool. If not, your tool may experience a loss of power, excessive voltage drop or overheating. The smaller the gauge number, the heavier the cord (see table below).
