After making electrical connections, spliced conductors should be turned upward and pushed carefully up into the outlet box. The wires should be spread apart with the grounded conductor and the equipment-grounding conductor on one side of the outlet box.8. 6InstallationMOUNTING OPTIONSWARNING: To reduce the risk of re, electric shock or personal injury, mount to outlet box marked “Acceptable for fan support of 50lbs. (22.7kg) or less”, and use screws provided with the outlet box. An outlet box commonly used for the support of lighting xtures may not be acceptable for fan support and may need to be replaced. If in doubt, consult a qualied electrician.If your ceiling fan does not have an existing UL-listed mounting box, then install one using the following instructions: ƑDisconnect the power by removing the fuses or turning off the circuit breakers. ƑSecure the outlet box directly to the building structure. Use the appropriate fasteners and materials. The outlet box and its bracing must be able to fully support the weight of the moving fan (at least 50 lbs.). Do not use a plastic outlet box.The illustrations below show three different ways to mount the outlet box.If the canopy touches the downrod, then remove the decorative canopy bottom cover, and turn the canopy 180° before attaching the canopy to the mounting plate.To hang your fan where there is an existing xture but no ceiling joist, you may need an installation hanger bar as shown above(available at any Home Depot store).NOTE: You may need a longer downrod to maintain proper blade clearance when installing on a steep, sloped ceiling. ƑRemove the mounting bracket (A) from the canopy (C) by loosening the two screws (HH) located in the “L shaped” slots ƑRemove and save the two non-slotted screws (SS) in the round holes. This will enable you to remove the mounting bracket (A). ƑRoute the wires exiting the top of the fan motor (D) into the decorative motor collar cover (F) and through the canopy ring (L). ƑMake sure the slot openings are on top and route the wires through the canopy (C) and then through the ball/downrod assembly (B).231 CASSLHHCDF BLDF EEDDB ƑRemove the setscrew (DD) by turning it counterclockwise. ƑInstall the downrod (B) by inserting it into the motor collar (FF), and turning it clockwise until it is tight. ƑReinstall the setscrew (DD) turning clockwise until tight.NOTE: This fan is equipped with a safety tab (EE). Should the setscrew (DD) ever become loose while the fan is running in reverse, the safety tab (EE) will engage and stop the fan from falling.CAUTION: To ensure wobble-free operation and to avoid damage to the fan, the downrod (B) and the setscrew (DD) must be completely tightened
8Assembly - Hanging the FanAttaching the fan to the electrical boxHanging the fan ƑPass the 120-Volt supply wires through the center hole in the mounting bracket (A). ƑInstall the ceiling mounting bracket (A) on the outlet box (OO) by sliding the mounting bracket (A) over the two screws (TT) provided with the outlet box (OO). If necessary, use leveling washers (not included) between the mounting bracket (A) and the outlet box (OO). Note that the at side of the mounting bracket (A) is toward the outlet box (OO). ƑSecurely tighten the two mounting screws (TT). ƑCarefully lift the fan motor assembly (D) up to the mounting bracket (A). ƑSeat the hanger ball portion of the ball/downrod assembly (B) in the mounting bracket (A) socket. Ensure that the tab on the mounting bracket (A) socket is properly seated in the groove in the hanger ball. 12WARNING: To reduce the risk fo re, electric shock or personal injury, mount to outlet box marked “acceptable for fan support of 50 lbs. Secure the connectors with electrical tape and ensure there are no loose strands or connections.WARNING: Each wire not supplied with this fan is designed to accept up to one 12-gauge house wire and two wires from the fan. If you have larger than 12-gauge house wiring or more than one house wire to connect to the fan wiring, consult an electrician for the proper size wire nuts to use. ƑThe fan comes with 54 in. lead wires for use with an extended ball/downrod assembly. If using the 18 in. ball/downrod assembly (B) provided, you can cut the lead wires to your desired length. This will make extra room in the canopy (C), if you do not wish to cut the wires, you will need to neatly wrap them. ƑConnect the fan motor green wires to the household green or bare wire using a wire connecting nut (BB). ƑConnect the fan motor white wire to the household white wire using a wire connecting nut (BB). ƑConnect the fan motor black wire to the household black wire using a wire connecting nut (BB). ƑSecure each wire connecting nut using electrical tape. ƑTurn the wire connecting nuts (BB) upward and push the wiring into the outlet box (OO).NOTE: The fan comes with 54 in. lead wires for use with an extended ball/downrod assembly. If using the 18 in. ball/downrod assembly (B) provided, you can cut the lead wires to your desired length.IMPORTANT: If after this step, you decide to check that the electrical connections have been successful, it is critical to attach the light kit using the quick connector prior to testing. The fan will not operate unless the light kit is connected to the fan.
10Assembly - Hanging the Fan (continued)Mounting the fan-motor assembly (standard mount) ƑAlign the locking slots of the ceiling canopy (C) with the two screws (HH) in the slide-on mounting bracket (A). Push up to engage the slots, and turn clockwise to lock the canopy (C) in place. ƑFirmly tighten the two mounting screws (HH). ƑInstall the two mounting screws(saved from assembly step 1 “Preparing for mounting” into the holes in the canopy (C) and tighten rmly. ƑInstall the decorative canopy ring (L) by aligning the ring’s slots with the screws in the canopy (C). Rotate the canopy ring (L) counter-clockwise to lock it in place.WARNING: When using the standard ball/downrod mounting, the tab in the ring at the bottom of the mounting bracket must rest in the groove of the hanger ball. Failure to properly seat the tab in the groove could cause damage to the wiring.HHCDAL5Wrapping the extra wire ƑGently wrap the excess wire around the mounting bracket. ƑSecure with electrical tape.4NOTE: Follow this step ONLY if you did not cut the extra length off from the wires coming from the ceiling fan.WARNING: The locking slots of ceiling canopy are provided only as an aid to mounitng. Do not leave the fan assembly unattached until all four canopy screws are engaged and rmly tightened.

Insert a blade attachment screw (AA) through a hole in the blade (G) and the blade bracket (J) and into the decorative nut (CC). Repeat for the two remaining holes in the blade (G). ƑTighten each screw (AA) securely. ƑRepeat these steps for the remaining blades. ƑRemove one screw (QQ) from the black bracket below the fan motor assembly (D). Loosen, but do not remove the other two screws. ƑAlign the key hole slots in the switch cup adaptor (H) with the two screws in the black bracket. ƑTurn the switch cup adaptor (H) clockwise until the two screws are situated in the narrow end of the keyholes. ƑRe-install the one screw (QQ) that was removed in rst step. Tighten all three screws rmly.DAAGCCHQQDAssembly - Hanging the Fan (continued)Attaching the switch cup2 ƑRemove one screw (UU) from the switch cup adaptor (H). Loosen but do not remove the other two screws (UU). ƑConnect the molded adaptor plug of the receiver (NN) in the switch cup (E) with the molded adaptor of the fan motor assembly (D). ƑAligning the “L” shape holes on the switch cup (E) with the screws on the switch cup adaptor (H). Turn the switch cup (E) to hold it in position. ƑInstall the other screw (UU) that was removed in the rst step. Tighten all three screws (UU) securely.ENNUUHDCAUTION: To reduce the risk of electric shock, disconnectthe electrical supply circuit to the fan before installing theswitch cup.IMPORTANT: It is critical to attach the switch cup using the quick connector. The fan will not operate unless the switch cup is connected to the fan.
12Operating Your Fan and Remote ControlRemote Control - Your fan is equipped with a remote control to operatethe speed and lights of your new ceiling fan. Speed setting for warm or cool weather depends on factors such as the room size, ceiling height, number of fans and so on. Warm weather - (Forward) A downward airow creates a cooling effect.This allows you to set your air conditioner on a higher setting withoutaffecting your comfort.Cool weather - (Reverse) An upward airow moves warm air off of theceiling. This allows you to set your heating unit on a lower settingwithout affecting your comfort.NOTE: Do not wait for the fan to stop before pressing the reverse button. The fan will not reverse direction if the fan is not moving.Setting the code on the remote control ƑRemove the battery cover by pressing rmly on the arrow and sliding the cover off. ƑSlide the code switches to your choice of either up or down. The factory setting is up. ƑInstall a 12-V battery (included) ƑReplace the battery cover on the remote control.NOTE: This remote is equipped with 16 code combinations. To prevent possible interference from or to other remote units, such as garage door openers, car alarms, or security systems, simply change the combination code. The code switch marked ON/DIM is for dimming control of the lights: Set the code switch to ON to allow for no dimming of the lights such as for uorescent bulbs. ƑReturn the power to the fan. ƑWithin 30 seconds of turning the fan’s power ON, press and hold the “FAN OFF” button (VV) on your remote control for 10 seconds. Once the receiver has detected the set frequency, the down light of your fan, if applicable, will blink twice. There is no indication if your fan is not equipped with a light. ƑTo conrm the remote control and receiver have paired successfully press the “1” button on your remote control.NOTE: After the AC power is on, do not press any other button on the remote control before pressing the “FAN OFF” button (VV). Doing so will cause the procedure to fail.Remote control operationNOTE: The remote control can learn multiple receivers. Make sure no other receivers are operating during the learning process. Separate the fan power switches by approximately 2 meters.Light/Dimmer button (XX) = Press and release the button immedi-ately to turn on or turn off the light. Press and hold the button to dim or brighten the light to the desired level and then release.(For tungsten bulbs only and down light function, turn the switch to “DIM”.)1 = Low speed2 = Medium speed3 = High speedOff button (VV)= Power offReverse button (WW) = Press and release the button immediately to set the fan air ow direction up or down. 14TroubleshootingProblem SolutionThe fan will not start ƑCheck the main and branch circuit fuses or breakers. ƑCheck the line wire connections to the fan and switch wire connections in the switch housing. ƑCheck the battery in the remote control. ƑEnsure you are in the normal range of 10-20 feet. ƑRemember to turn off the power supply before checking the dip switch settings.The fan is noisy ƑEnsure all motor housing screws are snug. ƑEnsure the screws that attach the fan blade bracket to the motor hub are tight. ƑEnsure the wire nut connections are not rattling against each other or the interior wall of the switch housing. ƑAllow a 24-hour “breaking in” period. Most noises associated with a new fan disappear during this time. ƑIf you are using the Ceiling Fan light kit, ensure the screws securing the glassware are tight. Check that the light bulbs are also secure. ƑEnsure the canopy is a short distance from the ceiling. It should not touch the ceiling. ƑEnsure your outlet box is secure and rubber isolator pads were used between the mounting plate and outlet box.The fan wobbles ƑCheck that all blade and blade arm screws are secure. ƑMost fan wobble problems are caused when blade levels are unequal. Check this level by selecting a point on the ceiling above the tip of one of the blades. Measure from a point on the center of the blade to the point on the ceiling. Rotate the fan until the next blade is positioned for measurement, and measure from the same point on each blade to the ceiling. Repeat for each blade. Any measurement deviation should be within 1/8 in. Run the fan for ten minutes. If the fan continues to wobble please contact Home Decorators Collection Customer Service and a balacing kit will be sent to you at no charge. ƑBecause of the fan’s natural movement, some connections may become loose. Check the support connections, brackets, and blade attachments twice a year. Make sure they are secure. It is not necessary to remove the fan from the ceiling. ƑClean your fan periodically to help maintain its new appearance over the years. Do not use water when cleaning, as this could damage the motor, or the wood, or possibly cause an electrical shock. Use only a soft brush or lint-free cloth to avoid scratching the nish. ƑYou can apply a light coat of furniture polish to the wood for additional protection and enhanced beauty. Cover small scratches with a light application of shoe polish. ƑYou do not need to oil your fan. The motor has permanently-lubricated sealed ball bearings.WARNING: Make sure the power is off before cleaning your fan.Care and Cleaning
