PreliminaryIntroduction1thisdevicemaynotcauseharmfulinterference,and2thisdevicemustacceptanyinterferencereceived,includinginterferencethatmaycauseundesiredoperations.ThisequipmenthasbeentestedandfoundtocomplywiththelimitsforaClassAdigitaldevice,pursuanttoPart15oftheFCCRules.Theselimitsaredesignedtoprovidereasonableprotectionagainstharmfulinterferencewhentheequipmentisoperatedinamarineand/orcommercialenvironment.Thisequipmentgenerates,usesandcanradiateradiofrequencyenergyand,ifnotinstalledandusedinaccordancewiththeinstructionmanual,maycauseharmfulinterferencetoradiocommunications.Theequipmentisnotintendedforoperationinaresidentialarea.Operationinsuchanareaislikelytocauseharmfulinterferenceinwhichcasetheuserwillberequiredtocorrecttheinterferenceathisownexpense.1.6NoteonRFradiationexposurelimitsandAISequipmentTheinternationalregulationsrelatedtoradiationexposurearemainlyaimedatsettinglevelsforportabledevices(andbasestationsitesformobilenetworks).Portabledevicesintendedtobeusedveryclosetothehumanbody(within0.5morless),canhaveRFpowerlevelsintherangeupto10W.TheKongsbergSeatexASAISequipmentusesVHFtransmission(156to164MHzband),andisintendedforpermanentinstallationonships(aboveacertainsize).Theantennaismountedhighupinamast.Thisisconsideredacontrolledenvironment.RFpowerfedtotheantennaismaximum12W(thetransmissionisnotcontinuous).Anyhumanwillbeinthefareld(>10m)fromtheAISVHFantennaandisnotlikelytobeexposedtohazardousRFeldsoriginatingfromthisantenna.1.7DisposalAllelectricalandelectroniccomponentshavetobedisposedofseparatelyfromthemunicipalwastestreamviadesignatedcollectionfacilitiesappointedbythegovernmentorlocalauthorities.Thecorrectdisposalandseparatecollectionofyouroldappliancewillhelppreventpotentialnegativeconsequencesfortheenvironmentandhumanhealth.Itisapreconditionforreuseandrecyclingofusedelectricalandelectronicequipment.Formoredetailedinformationaboutdisposalofyouroldappliance,pleasecontactyourlocalauthoritiesorwastedisposalservice.TheequipmentmaybereturnedtoKongsbergSeatexASifthereisnolocalWEEEcollection.Theequipmentismarkedwiththispictogram.A300-02/2.011

PreliminaryKongsbergAIS3002.9.1GPS-GlobalPositioningSystemTheGlobalPositioningSystem(GPS)isasatellite-basednavigationsystemmadeupofanetworkofsatellitesplacedintoorbitbytheU.S.DepartmentofDefence.GPSwasoriginallyintendedformilitaryapplicationsbutinthe1980esthegovernmentmadethesystemavailableforcivilianuse.GPSprovidesahighlyaccurateandcontinuousnavigationservice.Itprovides24-hour,allweatherandglobalcoverage.Thesystemisdividedintothefollowingthreesegments:SpacesegmentThissegmentconsistsofatleast24satellites(21activeplus3operatingspares)in12-hourcircularorbits.Atanaltitudeof20200km,eachsatelliteistransmittingorbitalandclockparameters.ControlsegmentThissegmentcomprisesGroundControlStationsgeographicallyspreadformonitoring,up-loadingandcontrolofthesatellitetransmittedcharacteristics.UsersegmentThissegmentcomprisesGPSreceiversinstalledonboardships,aircraftetc.totracksatellitesignalsandtransformthemintoposition,velocityandtime.EachGPSsatellitetransmitsradiosignalsattwomicrowavefrequenciesintheLband,1575.43MHz(L1)and1227.6MHz(L2).TheL1signalismodulatedbyaprecise(P)codeforPrecisePositioningService(PPS)andacourse/acquisition(C/A)codeforStandardPositioningService(SPS).ThePcodeisformilitaryandauthorisedpersonnelonlyandisencryptedbeforebroadcasttoGPSusers.TheC/Acodeisforcivilusers.Until1May2000theaccuracyoftheC/Acodewasdegradedto100m(2DRMS)horizontalpositioningbytheuseofSelectiveAvailability(SA).However,SAisnowswitchedoffandthepositionaccuracyofthesystemisabout16metres95%CEP .ThefundamentaltechniqueforGPSisone-wayrangingfromthesatellites.Triangulation,basedonrangingfromthesatellites,isthebasisofthesystem.Inordertotriangulate,theGPSmeasuresdistanceusingthetraveltimeofaradiomessage.Tomeasuretraveltime,timingiscrucial.GPSthereforeneedsveryaccurateclocks.Thetransmissionisreferredtohighlyaccurateatomicfrequencystandardsonboardthesatellites,whichareinsynchronisationwiththeGPSsystemtimebase.ThetimedifferencefromwhenthesignalleavesthesatellitesuntilitisreceivedattheGPSreceiver,ismeasured.Thedistanceiscomputedbymultiplyingwiththespeedoflight.Oncethedistancetoasatelliteisknown,thesatellite'spositioninspacemustbefound.TheGPSsatellitesarelaunchedintoverypreciseorbitsandtheirpositionistransmittedtotheuser.Knowingthesatellites'positionandthedistancetotheuserreceiver,theuserpositioncanbecomputed.Threeperfectmeasurementscansolveathree-dimensionalpointinspace.18A300-02/2.0
