Suggested Language For Manual or InsertHearing Aid Compatibility (HAC) with Mobile PhonesSome mobile phones and hearing devices (hearing aids and cochlear implants), when usedtogether, can result in buzzing, humming, or whining noises detected by the user. Some hearingdevices are more immune than others to interference, and phones may vary in the amount ofinterference they generate.The wireless telephone industry has developed ratings to assist hearing device users find phonescompatible with their hearing devices.  Not all phones are rated.  Rated phones have the rating ontheir box.The ratings are not guarantees and results may vary depending on the user’s hearing device andhearing loss.  If your hearing device is vulnerable to interference, you may not be able to use arated phone successfully.  Trying out the phone with your hearing device is the best way toevaluate for compatibility.M-Ratings:  Phones rated M3 or M4 meet FCC requirements and are expected to generate lessinterference with hearing devices than phones not labeled. M4 is the better of the two ratings.T-Ratings:  Phones rated T3 or T4 meet FCC requirements and are expected to be more usablewith a hearing device’s telecoil (“T Switch” or “Telephone Switch”) than unrated phones. T4 is thebetter of the two ratings.  (Not all hearing devices have telecoils.)Hearing devices can also be measured for immunity to interference. Your hearing devicemanufacturer or hearing health professional can help you choose the proper rating for your mobilephone.
