Connections Make sure all connections are made with both your VCR and additional appliance unplugged from the mains to avoid damaging your equipment.Connecting a VCR using a Audio/Video cable is one of the best ways to achieve optimum sound and picture quality from video-tape playback. If you own astereo TV you will be able to enjoy stereo sound when playing a stereo video tape or stereo TV reception. 6VCR reception settingWhen a TV is connected with a coaxial cable onlyWhen the TV is connected to the VHF/UHF/CATV using a supplied coaxialcable only, set the channel selector at the rear to CH 3 or CH 4, notemployed for broadcasts, and select the same channel on the TV.When a TV is connected with an audio/video cableWhen the TV is connected using an audio/video cable, turn the TV and VCRon, and select the video input mode on the TV. 7Remote Control and Display window Before using the remote control, press VCR or TV button to select the device to be operated.Basic functions of your VCR can also be operated using the control panel on the front of your VCR.Information appears in the displaywindow depending on the VCRfunction being used. Display windowshows which VCR function you areusing. For example, when you pressPLAY, PLAY appears to indicate thetape operation. As you changechannels, the channel numbersappear. Operating your VCR(Video Cassette Recorder)The main functions of your VCR can be operated using either the Remote Control or front control panel on the VCR. Before starting, you should ensure that your television and your VCR have been plugged in and switched on and that the video channel on your televisionis selected.8Playing a video tapePress PLAYHH. The televisionscreen will display PLAY.Auto trackingYour VCR will automatically adjustthe tracking to give you the best picture quality.Manual trackingIf noise appears on the screen during playback, press eitherCH/TRK (vv/VV)on the remote controluntil the noise on the screen isreduced.Stopping playSimply press STOP xxto halt videoplay. The VCR will revert to television mode.Picture SearchWhile a video cassette is playingyou can search the tape forward andbackward to look for a specific position on the tape. Press REW mm  or FF MMto makethe tape play rapidly forwards orbackwards. Fast Forward / RewindTo  fast forward or rewind at maxi-mum speed, the tape must not be inplay mode. Press STOP xxthenpress either REW mmfor rewind orFF MM  for fast forward. While youare rewinding or fast forwarding youcan view the section you are passing. Press and hold (for a fewseconds) either REW mmor FF MM.Releasing FF MM  button or REW mmbutton will return the VCRto normal rewind or fast forwardoperation.Slow Motion PlaybackPress SLOW during playback.The tape will be played back at aspeed 1/19 times slower than thenormal speed.During slow playback, CH/TRK (VV//vv)on the RemoteControl can be used to minimizenoise bands.When the slow mode continues formore than 3 minute, the VCR will automatically change to play mode.Pausing a tapePressing P/STILLXX  will pause play,giving you a still picture on thescreen. This picture may displaysome interference in the form ofblack and white horizontal lines. Thisis perfectly normal and does notmean that the video tape or VCR aredamaged.The tape can be paused for up to 5minutes. The VCR will then automat-ically stop playing in order to avoiddamaging the tape or your VCR. Frame Advance1Pressing P/STILLXX  repeatedlywill advance the picture frame byframe.2You can use CH/TRK(vv/VV)buttons to reduce any verticalmovement seen on the still picture.3Press PLAYHH  to continue playfrom pause.Removing the Video tapePress EJECT ZZto remove the videocassette from your VCR. Recording • For all recording methods you should ensure the television channels are tuned and stored correctly and that the clock is set to the correct time.• Set the TV to the VCR Output Channel (CH 3 or 4) or video input.• Insert a video cassette with protection tab into your VCR. 9Normal recording1Set the desired speed (SP orEP) by pressing SPEED.2Use CH/TRK (vv//VV)or Numberbuttons to select the channel torecord.3Press REC/ITR zzonce.The REC indicator appear onthe TV screen and display window.Instant Timer Recording(ITR)ITR begins recording immediately,either for a set period of time or untilthe tape runs out.1Turn on your VCR and televi-sion. Insert a video tape into theVCR. Select the video channelon your television.2Use CH/TRK (vv//VV)buttons toselect which program you wishto record. The currently selectedprogram will be displayed onscreen. You can also select theprogram number using theNumber buttons.3Press REC/ITR zzto beginrecording. On the first pressREC will appear on the televi-sion screen and REC will be dis-played on the display panel. The VCR will start recording. Itwill continue recording until theend of the tape is reached or itis manually stopped.4To  set the length of time whichyou want to record for, pressREC/ITR zzbutton twice. The television screen will show0H30. Each subsequent press ofREC/ITR zzbutton will increasethe recording time by 30 minutesto a maximum of 9 hours. To  pause recording.You can also interrupt recording toavoid unwanted scenes.1To  pause recording pressP/STILLXX. The REC PAUSEappear on the TV screen. AlsoREC indicator will flash duringpause mode on the display window.2Press P/STILLXX  again to continue recording. Tapes canbe paused for up to 5 minutes.The RECP will be displayed onthe display panel while a tape ispaused. After 5 minutes yourVCR will automatically cancelrecording to prevent damage tothe video tape or your VCR.To  view one channel while recordinganother, press TV/VCR to disappearVCR on the display panel.Using your TV remote control, switchto the channel you want to watch.Finishing a recording1Press STOP xx.2Press EJECT ZZ. EJECT willappear on the television screen.If the end of the tape is reachedyour VCR will automatically stoprecording, rewind, stop and ejectthe tape and place itself intoStandby.• EP provides three times asmuch recording time as SP,although SP produces betterpicture and audio sounds.• If a cassette with no preventiontab is loaded, the cassette willbe ejected automatically. RecordingAllows you to specify a time at which the VCR will start recording. This can be done up to one year in advance with up to seven recordings being pre-programmed. Ensure the television channels have been tuned and stored correctly and that the clock is set to the correct time.10Timer RecordingInsert a video tape.1Press MENU for the main menu.2Usebb  or BBto select  thenpress ENTER.3Press ENTER to enter the timerrecord menu. 4Use vvor VVto select channelnumber (or LINE1, LINE2) 5Press BBand enter the date ofthe program that you wish torecord. Press ENTER beforeentering a date to select one ofthe automated features. Theyare DLY (daily) to record everyday except Saturday andSunday at the set time, or indi-vidual days e.g. MO (Monday) torecord at the same time everyweek. Use bb  or BBto select, thenpress ENTER to confirm.6Enter the time of the start andend of the program that you wishto record. The VCR uses a 12hour clock. 7Press BBto select the recordingspeed. Use the vvor VV  to movebetween SP and EP.8Check that the timer eventdetails are correct, if they are,press MENU to save your set-tings. If PLEASE CORRECTTHE DATA! is displayed youhave entered incorrect informa-tion. Check the details on the television screen and re-enter it.If you want to enter more Timerrecordings, repeat the aboveprocess from point 3. PressMENU again to remove themenu. 9Place the VCR on standby bypressing POWER 11button onthe remote control. TIMER willappear in the VCR display toshow that it is set to record. TheVCR is now set to record at thetime you have specified.Changing timer eventsIf you wish at any time to change arecording event press vvor VV  toselect the timer slot that you wish tochange.Press bb  to delete or ENTER to editthat entry. Use the bb  or BB  buttons toselect the section you wish tochange and the vvor VV  buttons tochange those sections.Dubbing and Editing1Connect the another VCR’s (orcamcorder’s) Audio/Video outputs to your VCR.2Set the input channel “LINE1” or“LINE2”. Press INPUT repeatedly todisplay “LINE1” (from AUDIO/VIDEO IN jacks at the rear) or“LINE2” (from AUDIO/VIDEO INjacks at the front) on the TVscreen.3Play the tape in the anotherVCR (or camcorder).If you have a TV attached toyour VCR, you can see thevideo playing.4Press REC/ITRzz  on the recording VCR.5To  edit out unwanted parts.Press P/STILLXXon the recording VCR while copying isin progress. Advanced functions on your VCR(Video Cassette Recorder)Your VCR has some advanced operations with features you may find useful.11CM (Commercial Message)SkipThis enables you to skip past small sections of the video tape, such ascommercial messages, televisionadverts or film trailers. Press CM SKIP button on theremote control, during play. Each subsequent press of the buttonincreases the amount of the tapewhich is skipped by 30 seconds, upto a total of 3 minutes (180 seconds). After the chosen time haspassed normal play will automatical-ly resume.Resetting the digital tapecounterThe tape counter displays the play or recording time elapsed in hoursminutes and seconds. Press CLEARto reset the counter to 0:00:00.When you press STOP xand pressREW mm, the VCR will stop at0:00:00, the point where you resetthe counter.On screen display (OSD)This can be used to display the current time, tape counter, taperemaining, day, month and year, dayof week, channel and operationalmode of your VCR on your televisionscreen. If a recording is taking place,the on screen displays will not berecorded onto tape.1Press ENTER to show the OSD.2Press ENTER repeatedly tocycle through the displayoptions. The tape counter and amount oftape left will appear if there is atape loaded. 3After 5 seconds the majority ofthe OSD will clear leaving onlythe clock or tape counter andthe amount of tape left on the television screen.4Press ENTER again to remove allOSD’s from the television screen.Automatic power offBy pressing POWER 11button whilerewinding a tape the VCR will turnoff automatically when the taperewind has completed.ez(easy) Operations ez Power OffPress ez POWER OFF button duringplay. The VCR will automatically stopthe tape, rewind to the beginningand eject the tape. TroubleshootingIf you are having trouble with your VCR please check the following before contacting service.15No picture and no sound•Check that the VCR plug hasbeen plugged in and switchedon at a mains wall outlet andthat the television has beenplugged in and switched on.•Check the antenna wire is undamaged and securely connected to the correct jacks inboth the television and the VCR.•Check that you have tuned intoa video channel on your television.No playback or a poor picture•Try a different video cassette.
